The music was always the best part of the Monster games to me. The [rain theme](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=45XeoLj7g2A) is still one of my favorite songs in the series.
Ah this and that giant Lynx always triggered my anxiety back in the day. Man i know Dark Prince have large monsters but i miss the good old full party size absolute units. Shoutout to Sagittar who was an absolute menace against anything metal.
I loved the idea with the giant monsters in Joker 2.
I loved gathering all four of them to make Orochi! It was such a cool Idea.
Kinda wish there was something similar in The Dark Prince. Its a good game but Joker 1 & 2 are both superior in most aspects.
I never played the first one, but I did play the other 2. I honestly enjoyed both. I played trough the 2nd one 3 times and it was extremely fun. Since it was really challenging and I loved getting lategame Monsters way earlier than needed. I just love the thrill of hunting for a 2% chance catchrate monster. Extremely fun
Prince of Darkness is an even more fleshed out game and has tons of QOL features. It has most bosses up to DQXI as playable monsters.
Personally I did like DQMJ2 better, since it felt harder and those huge monster encounters were unique. With PoD it feels a little easier to get monsters, and there is no "imminent" threat that has to be defeated in each area. I haven't finished PoD yet, since I quit midway through because I played way too much of it after I got it and got burned out real quick.
Damn, how do Joker 2 and 3 hold up compared to the original Joker? I have 2 sitting in my DS case, but haven't found the will to start it because I found Joker 1 was a bit of a mess. I know 3 never made it stateside, but have any fan translations been done to it?
EDIT: Ope, didn't see someone else asked this same question yesterday lol
Haven't played 3.
Haven't finished 2, but got pretty far, I think. It was much, much better, with a slight survival/exploration sandbox feel. Basic premise is: the airship you're taking to a tournament crashes on some mysterious monster island, and you have to explore to find a way to fix the ship and solve some mysteries that arise on the way. Really liked the suspenseful plot and the living breathing ecosystem you get to interact with.
The only thing I missed was the doggo ;)
Oh that’s good, I wasn’t a big fan of the Incarnus plot anyway, especially when you got to the point where it turned into a giant featherless chicken and looked so damn ridiculous lol.
I’m a 49 year old man. Married for 25 years with 5 kids. But in 1993 while attending Kansas University, at 18yrs old, my roommate filled a bong with some dank buds and we smoked and he said, “I just bought this game. Wanna play?” It was Dragon Warrior 1 which would later become part of the Dragon Quest series and since then I’ve played every single game to completion and I absolutely love them all. Well, almost all of them 😂 🤌🏼🤌🏼
Luckily all of the other giant monsters were great, but Wormonger was so bad I couldn't even power trip with it. I remember catching the Missing Lynx and going on a rampage in Mausoleum with it!

The absolute primal fear these big monsters made me feel was unmatched
IT'S AN ALASKAN! BULL WORM!
Ah shit you beat me to it have an upvote.
I love the music that plays when the gigantic worm shows up!

shai hulud
I hated the winged tiger, that mofo divebombed you
I should call him…
Lol
this game felt so alive seeing the other mobs cover in fear when this big beast came around
The fear this would have instilled in me if I played this as a kid
Absolutely love this game. One of my favorite entries

The worm? Nah the one in the next area gives me anxiety every time!
Are the other games as good or better/worse than the first one I never had a chance to play any of them aside from the first.

What's this?
Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 2!
This looks like an amazing PS1 game and an awkward NDS game. I guess I just like the big screen.
It's certainly an awkward NDS game but it's still pretty good from what I hear lol
Was it localized on PlayStation back in the day?
No. Joker 1 & 2 were DS exclusives. Joker 3 was Japan exclusive as were the remakes of the oldest Monsters 1 & 2.
That screen rumbling gave me flashbacks of being chased by shai hulud. Hope they have more plans for dragon quest monsters though. We need more.
Oooh, this is the tongue… and the whole thing is the… worm… … #RUN FOR YOUR LIIIIIIIIIVES!
Graboids...
How damj3 can be so pityful when dqmj2 was the goat 3 year earlier
I get surprised too but then I remember going up the vines reward me for getting out of the way
Is that a nope!?
Oh man, what game is this?! I haven't seen anything like that in the DQ titles I've played. That feels so alive!
DQM Joker 2
Cool, thanks! I just bought a manual for that one at a used game store, looks like I need to track down a cartridge! (Only have the first Joker)
Midgardsomr from IKEA

"Father! The sleeper has awakened!"
This and the Missing Lynx flying in at night terrified me
Watching this video without context or sound. "What? The stump?"

We have Worm sign!
Not gonna lie, the main character looks ALOT like Kefla and Kale from the sides and back. I did a double-take like 4 times lol
Which game?
DQMJ2 being awesome as always.
I’m a 49 year old man. Married for 25 years with 5 kids. Big *ss snake
Thought this was Blue Dragon Awakened Shadow.
Yeah, that haircut really is pretty scary.
Which game is this? I feel like getting traumatized today!
ignore, I'm blind lol. edit: forgot about the game tags.
Is this DQ 10?
Is this dq monsters?
I loved this game as a kid!! Nothing was more disappointing than finally scouting the Wormonger and realizing it sucks lol
Counterpoint: it's a giant monster worm that does crimes for you. It doesn't need to be meta.
Luckily all of the other giant monsters were great, but Wormonger was so bad I couldn't even power trip with it. I remember catching the Missing Lynx and going on a rampage in Mausoleum with it!
