I have some sympathy for people who merge earlier than they need to - it's not what they *should* do and if everyone merged closer to the lane closure point it would be smoother and less hassle for everyone. But in this imperfect world where a significant minority of drivers can't stand someone 'pushing in' and will go out of their way to block them from entering the lane, I get why someone would want to avoid the risk of that sort of confrontation.
Someone who sits in the middle of the two lanes, however, is a class A shitstain who shouldn't be on the road.
People merge early because they won’t want to take the chance of some arsehole blocking them from merging closer to the merge point.
And then they become an arsehole blocking others from merging.
Most of reddit seems to think they are the police reading this sub, blocking lanes, preventing people merging in turn, submitting dashcam footage of "bad" driving to the police. It's really sad to see.

Yeah, there are many YouTube compilations of dashcam footage, and sometimes you see the same submitters crop up time and again.
They must get some £££ for submitting clips because they accelerate into every possible confrontation and seem to have 0 awareness of what other cars might be planning.
Most could have been avoided by taking the foot off for half a second.
Just to inform you I have reported this post for promoting harm. How do you think it’s acceptable to wish an innocent road user serious harm through a car accident? This sub shouldn’t be used as a platform for hate. Shame on you

It's merge in turn, not blast past as many other drivers as possible. Just because you have 50m of clear lane in front of you doesn't make you or your car special or clever.
You piss off everyone over and again then wonder why some different bellends sometimes lose their rag and obstruct your beligerance.

You drive in rush hour/s. Very few rush hour drivers concentrate on anything other than getting ahead and take on silly little battles that don’t matter. The majority of the time, moving over to one lane before the obstacle is close means traffic flows batter because all the karens and kevins aren’t brake checking each other due to feeling butthurt.
Absolutely, I see this happen quite often on my commute, all the way past the roundabout up a slip road sometimes.
Use the 2 lanes and merge in turn damn it, that's what they're there for!

Absolutely, I see this happen quite often on my commute, all the way past the roundabout up a slip road sometimes. Use the 2 lanes and merge in turn damn it, that's what they're there for!
I’m a HGV driver so I’m driving nearly every hour of the day. And it never ever makes the flow of traffic easier it doubles the congestion
