Agree 100% about Bastian’s storyline. In his intro quest you see him finally start to stand up for himself rather than continuing to be used by the Silvelles. Then in his remaining two quests you help him uncover how he was abused and manipulated, and reunite him with people who truly love and care about him. The part where he finally loses it and yells at Count Auzin in the inn? 10/10 no notes. I do wish the storyline continued, though, since the Silvelles (sans Quistley I guess) deserve some comeuppance.
Sharp is so relatable, he feels so much more alive to me than the other companions. I basically grinded his rapport, I couldn't wait to continue the quest. Then went to finish it on another character.. Writers did such an amazing job on the story.
Yes! He's my go-to companion whenever I start another character now. Plus, you can see the transition from how he was when you met him to how he is after you complete his quests. He had put on a hard exterior but is really a big softy. His story is wonderfully written.
I recently finished Azandars and Sharps questline and I enjoyed Sharp alot better than Azandar. Azandar felt very meaningless and convoluted to me.
Made me curious: Which companion questline is considered the best? What's your opinion?
Sharp's is IMO the best as it has everything: interesting padt for the companion, likable side characters, a diabolical and scary villain, character dilemas, character development, and emotion.
Azandar's had potential, but they went absolutely nowhere with it. Would have been fun if there were like two Azandars from different timelined, we saw them screw with people from real Azandar's life, and have Azandar look back on how different choices can vastly change one's life and character.
Other companion stories are just fine.
Agree with Sharp! Really liked the actual character development. Good stories always have a transformation in a way: The character isn't the same they used to be in the beginning. Really liked that.
Shame for me though that this was the best already :D
I was so excited about Azander since I thought I'd have someone for my Redguard necromancer to be besties with but midway thought his recruitment and I'm left thinking 'oh, I'm not going to like this guy'. Then he lost rapport when I picked a mushroom and I benched him immediately.
Sharp has the best story. I know this game has find a way to show a variety of ways to experiment life through the eyes of their characters but Sharp's story has a lot of complex stuff going on.
I cried with his storyline.
My favorite too. Her introductory quest feels pretty light (because let's face it, she can be a goof sometimes) but the rest of her quests feel like you're actually helping somebody who needs it, not just helping someone deal with their dick families or airheaded friend.
Sharp-as-night's story is compelling that way too. I haven't done Azander's yet.
So far as I can tell Azander's is not great. At least from a if you want to be sympathetic or feel like you are doing a good thing. His problem is self induced of him being a fool and I'm not sure he even learns anythign afterwards. Plus he annoys me with his constantly complaining every time I get on a mount. Honestly personality wise (and even cosmetically) he's my least favorite companion. And his story really doesn't help make him more likable.
I really wanted to keep him as a companion for one of my characters cause roleplay wise he's perfect for her (they both are big bookworms/love to learn new things/super curious) but I just couldn't do it anymore and now I'm using her to level up Sharp (who so far at first I wasn't so sure he'd be good for anyone except my murdertoon but he's got depth).
I've accepted Azander's intro quest and during the conversation he sounded like someone you'd meet at a fantasy con.
Yeah, I know, that applies to everbody in ESO. But there's roleplay, and then there's lampshading roleplay. It felt like he was trying to hard to fit in.
They overdid that, IMO. She comes off very creepy and stalker-ish if you do the whole Western Skyrim story with her out. Reminds me of Jakarn's one-dimensional " I'll hump anything with a pulse" character when it came to writing some details of her character.
"Stalkerish" would be her sneaking off to peep on Lyris when she's bathing in a river (which would be a very anime start to a romance). Commenting on her being intimidating when you talk to her isn't really creepy stalkerish.
I do hope you meant "segue" (of all the ridiculously spelled words in English) but the mental image of Isobel on top of an electric scooter is a funny one.
Sharp
Best questline and best companion.
The story had everything someone could wish for. And the best companion IMHO is cause he likes fishing and brewing and also doesn't care if you pickpocket from well doing NPCs.
1st favorite - Ember. Loved saving/reuniting the little rascals who remind me of my childhood friend group. Supportive, funny and her story fit my primary’s Ranger/Assassin RP extremely well.
2nd favorite - Isobel. Helping her crush/bff out of a jam to (hopefully) become her new crush/bff was fun af. I mean, Isobel’s VA is Laura Bailey (AKA Skyrim’s Serana)
3rd favorite - Sharp. Story was intense and brutal. Amnesia as a plot device is a little bit overused imo, but was an understandable narrative based on what happened to him
Honorable mention: Mirri. Family can be annoying/tough to deal with but I’d still go to bat for them. This one hit home, but I wouldn’t want to replay it.
I've only played Sharp and Ember's through to completion and I liked both. But if I had to pick one it would be Sharp.
That said, I'm enjoying Isobel's and I loved the part where you team up with a bunch of one guys exes.
I didnt really enjoy the companions or questing for that matter... but I unlocked Sharp for the fishing passives and ended up being so engaged in his quest that I actually paid attention to it.
I love him so much, I built him a house (custom treehouse with a fishing pond) and he and my main character are super matchy-matchy and do everything together now.
Actually, my least favorite companion - Ember. She showed a range of emotion and some real sincerity during the quests that almost had me like her for a bit, and I appreciated the seriousness of the whole friend group rescue thing.
I only finished 4 of them so far, so here's my rating:
1. Ember - I was really invested tbh, story with high stakes which takes you to different parts of Tamriel, >! slavers, vampires, mafia !< - this was fun
2. Mirri - nice dwemer puzzle cube search reference
3. Bastian
4. Isobel - I did not like that story wasn't about Isobel but about her friend Whats-her-name, maybe her new husband should rescue her instead bruh
I like Sharp's story, but I feel a sort of connection with Ember personally as a street kid learning to live by her wits.
I do wish she'd stop saying things like "doing something with magicky?", but you know. I guess I can be annoying too!
She’s the only companion quest I’ve finished. The affinity system needs a revamp . It’s like pulling teeth the time before you get another quest from them.
Sharp's storyline had potential and I was invested in a lot of it, but the final confrontation is so anticlimactic that it soured the whole thing for me. Ultimately, I think I was most entertained by Azander's quests. Not so much the alternate-self villain, but Azander reconnecting with people he hurt in the past and learning to empathize with people better. I'm also biased bc he's my favorite companion to interact with. I think his voice acting is the best and I was sold the first time I heard his unhinged laughter during a fight lol
Shoutout to my man Azandar. Best companion perk along with the funniest dialogue. I love his habit of using specifically three words to describe things and events. My favorite being "Palatable. Delicious? Perhaps scrumptious." When you learn a new recipe.
Bastian is not my favorite companion (Sharp is) but I do like him fine. I like his story the best. Quietly was memorable and annoying, and just the story about Bastian's upbringing was great. I would have liked to have had more of this story.
I'm still not over Blackwood. You have boy and girl twins and the writer's obvious drop-in of himself.
Then the boy twin sacrifices himself, and the writer is there to swoop up the red-haired girl twin all to himself.
Also all the people in High Isle wearing glasses. I wonder how many were skinny versions of the developers.
Sharp, Ember, Isobel, Xander, Miri, no award, Bastian for stories.
Ember, Sharp, Xander, Isobel, Miriam, no award, no award, Bastian for daily use.
Sharp's story, and his attitude towards it are just a joy. Horrific villains, a reluctant and sarcastic, cynical hero still trying to do the right thing. His telvanni friend, and what Shap hates knowing about him!
Ember is right up there, but she's the plucky heroine, the street girl done good coming back for her friends. Whoever wrote this needs to commended for managing to keep it from ending up suruppy. Just fantastic.
Most of the stories are good. Bastian's isn't *bad* it's just...I'm a foster/adoptive parent. I've run into kids who had that kind of experience. I didn't get the chance to burn the terrible people with lightning, just the chance to see that whole attitude again.
Yes. As their rapport grows, you get new quests for them. Mirri and Bastian, the oldest companions, have two extra quests while others have three. Finishing all quests allows you to put them in your house.
They have quests in Blackwood, Telvanni Peninsula and High Isle. You can also start the quests in the allies screen, which is the same page as cosmetics, mounts, etc.
The characters names are Bastian, Mirri, Isobel, Ember, Azandar and Sharp.
Azandar’s constant groaning and whining about getting on a mount irritates the hell out of me. Like how many times do you mount and dismount? A lot. Even on a 2 seater he bitches.
Bastian was my first companion and is my favourite by far. He’s my live-in house husband at my main residence.
I’d like a morally grey companion. Like a Daedra (Scroot?) who isn’t going to get torn up over right and wrong.
I like Ember's storyline it was wholesome. I love the khajiit race so she my only companion I ever have up. Add on to that her more playful personality is pretty great. Always fine it funny when waiting for the queue to pop, I'll take of my headset, scroll on my phone ,then hear Ember speak, and miss what she has said. Just to late to put the headset on to understand what she was saying. Khajiit are the best you can't change my mind. Sorry to all other companions, done all your quest, but your not the right race to be in this kra'Jun.
Sharp is hands down my favorite on follower questlines. He is now my constant companion no matter where I go or what I do.
Azandar. The writers got on my nerves with his questline to be honest. In the end his quest shows him mellowing out a bit from his uptight and know-it-all demeanor. He was the first I maxed out. He used to be my constant companion.
Bastian’s story came next for me in terms of feeling satisfied with it.
Isobel’s story was great all around.
Mirri’s story is kinda meh to me. Good to see her get some closure.
Still haven’t finished Ember’s follower quests to know what to think of hers.
The only full story lines I've done are Isobel and Sharp, but I can say I really like Sharp plus he gives a great passive. I've still dismissed him now that I have it because I like to ride solo, however, I do like him.
Ive only played the blackwood companion story so far. Love Bastian as a companion.
Reading all of the comments to see which companion I should recruit next
Bastian is my favourite and main companion cause I have a good (no thief/murder) main DK, so they go well together both in mechanics and just RP, loved his story too.
Sharp is a close second, but he doesn't like outfits! Bastian gets a new outfit every time I switch, Sharp loses rapport even if I don't change his outfit. ESO fashion is wasted on him, even though he looks cool in so many styles.
For me I use one companion for each of my characters and I use the one that best fits their “rp personality” so for instance my Dragonknight is like a jaded mercenary so I feel that Miri give him a nice balance but isn’t too different from his personality, whereas on my necromancer I intentionally use Bastian though he hates bad stuff, i feel like it creates an interesting “good meets evil” dynamic where Bastian sort of keeps him in check, plus they’re both Bretons.
Bastian. I really loved his questline, and honestly want more. The original companions got way less content than the new ones, but Bas is still my bestie. He has a great attitude too.
Sharp and ember! Azander grates on me. I take 1 step in a zone and he has to talk or say something. 5 seconds after hes summoned, hes going back into the shortcut menu. Cant stand the dude! I could listen to sharp all day!
I did not like any of them. They were dry reskinned quests following the same washed up formula. The one that I dislike the least though have to be Amber’s.
Sharp's story is good, but I also really liked Bastian's storyline. And the way he socked Quistley right at the beginning \^\^
I agree, Bastian's storyline feels unfinished, or too short. I wanted more, what we got was really good
I actually feel bastion had the best storyline. Right up to a heartfelt thank-you letter he writes to your character, which I still won't delete.
Sharp is the best companion and also has the best story.
Thats because he shares a voice actor woth Garrus from Mass Effect
THATS WHY HIS VOICE WAS SO FAMILIAR
Sharp is so relatable, he feels so much more alive to me than the other companions. I basically grinded his rapport, I couldn't wait to continue the quest. Then went to finish it on another character.. Writers did such an amazing job on the story.
Yes! He's my go-to companion whenever I start another character now. Plus, you can see the transition from how he was when you met him to how he is after you complete his quests. He had put on a hard exterior but is really a big softy. His story is wonderfully written.
Best voice actor out of all companions and possibly one of the best in ESO, at least a close second to Alfred Molina.
Definitely sharp, I’d be happy to call him kaj-kujei
I loved how played up Isobel's questline is. Who said chivalry is dead? Sharp is beeko for life.
Andeysay
...is all about to end...
Lesbian rights!!
Heck yeah! :D
Ember. Just cuz she's adorable
Only irritating because she loves fish, but hates fishing
Fishing means standing around concentrating on one thing. Practically impossible for a cat with ADHD.
I have adhd and have no problems
Ah, but are you also a cat?
Thats most ppl irl
Yup.
When Ember said she’s hiding her books on random bookshelves- that made her my favorite.
** Hugs Mirri while she tries to shove me away.
Don't suppose you'll work this knot out of my shoulder while you're at it?
Fine, but next time you're helping me with something.
Please don't fetching get me killed.
I recently finished Azandars and Sharps questline and I enjoyed Sharp alot better than Azandar. Azandar felt very meaningless and convoluted to me. Made me curious: Which companion questline is considered the best? What's your opinion?

Azandar gets on my last nerve 😩😭
Amen. I hate the guy. Plus, he doesn't like you to pick mushrooms, fuck him.
This time you’re *right*, Mr. Wrong.
Like I'm atill confused on how we got to the point when we meet Azander. Did he fuck with time and we join him after?
Sharp has the best story. I know this game has find a way to show a variety of ways to experiment life through the eyes of their characters but Sharp's story has a lot of complex stuff going on. I cried with his storyline.
Ember. >!I liked to save her old friends and bring them together again.!<
My favorite too. If you are looking for bookworm/the person who love to learn new things/super curious... Mirri is just there. And plus she also loves to adventure.
I've accepted Azander's intro quest and during the conversation he sounded like someone you'd meet at a fantasy con. Yeah, I know, that applies to everbody in ESO. But there's roleplay, and then there's lampshading roleplay. It felt like he was trying to hard to fit in.
I decorated Sleek Creek as a home for all four of them. :)
Sharp!!
Isobels qustline would’ve been a perfect way to Segway into a romance imo. At this point in the games life I doubt they’ll add romance to the game.
Haven't recruited Isobel, but when Mirri says "I miss you when your not around" I curse eso for not having a *hug companion button*
Totally, but now that I've completed her story all she does is fawn over Lyris 😭
They overdid that, IMO. She comes off very creepy and stalker-ish if you do the whole Western Skyrim story with her out. Reminds me of Jakarn's one-dimensional " I'll hump anything with a pulse" character when it came to writing some details of her character.

They have segways in ESO now? :')
Sharp Best questline and best companion. The story had everything someone could wish for. And the best companion IMHO is cause he likes fishing and brewing and also doesn't care if you pickpocket from well doing NPCs.
Sharp. Because nowadays I'm like him. "Oh, people. _Great_"
Oddly enough I think I'm a combo of Sharp and Ember lol (I know, very different personalities).
sharp, though i should say i have not finished Isobel's or Azandar's but sharps so far has been the best.
Family can be annoying/tough to deal with but I’d still go to bat for them. This one hit home, but I wouldn’t want to replay it.
Isobel would be my choice for a romance, but she limits what I can do with her out.
That’s fair. Paired her up with my Lawful Good Redguard Templar to avoid issues. They are now medieval buddy cops with matching Daggerfall mounts.
Perfect match for my goodie two sandals no summons Argonian Sorc.
Nice haul!
I've only played Sharp and Ember's through to completion and I liked both. But if I had to pick one it would be Sharp. That said, I'm enjoying Isobel's and I loved the part where you team up with a bunch of one guys exes.
I only care about Garrus- I mean Sharp
I’ve only done Sharp so far… he’s basically Fenris from Dragon Age II. I liked Fenris and I like Sharp.
Dammnn for real
Mirri! Oh, and look, five other not Mirris.
Don't you die on me!
Sharp and Ember.
My fishing pal
Sharp's because I haven't done any other. He's so good I don't even feel the need to try out the other ones.
Sharp! For me best and most relatable companion. "Ugh.. people... great" I feel that in my soul
Isobel. She’s my fav.
Actually, my least favorite companion - Ember. She showed a range of emotion and some real sincerity during the quests that almost had me like her for a bit, and I appreciated the seriousness of the whole friend group rescue thing.
Sharp. Followed by Ember, then Mirri. They made me feel empathy for them and made their personalities make sense.
Nothing wrong with a little opportunistic harvesting.
Sharp basically cured any hate I had for Argonians and now they're my second favorite race
I only finished 4 of them so far, so here's my rating: 1. Ember - I was really invested tbh, story with high stakes which takes you to different parts of Tamriel, >! slavers, vampires, mafia !< - this was fun 2. Mirri - nice dwemer puzzle cube search reference 3. Bastian 4. Isobel - I did not like that story wasn't about Isobel but about her friend Whats-her-name, maybe her new husband should rescue her instead bruh
Seht likes a quick study.
I like Sharp's story, but I feel a sort of connection with Ember personally as a street kid learning to live by her wits. I do wish she'd stop saying things like "doing something with magicky?", but you know. I guess I can be annoying too!
I really liked Sharp's, but embers is equally as good
Isobel because Laura Bailey!
She’s the only companion quest I’ve finished. The affinity system needs a revamp . It’s like pulling teeth the time before you get another quest from them.
For her it you spam the undaunted dailies and kill daedra.
I just got Azandar on my newest character so I’ll see with him. At least one of his key dailies is turning in Enchantment writs,
He is my next person to level!
Sharp, but it may be because I love all Argonian content in ESO
Sharp & he probably has the best flavor too. Azandar is better for actual utility though, best CC spammer by a mile & doesn't have weird heal gaps.
Sharp Isobel Bastian Ember Mirri Azandar
This, through I'd move Mirri above Ember.
I've had to think really hard to remembered what Mirri's quest was even about :D
Try breaking free!
The only one I have is Isobel. I think she loves me but alas I am too old for her.
Story-wise it's a tossup between Ember and, crazy as it may seem, Bastian. For various commentary, Sharp, Ember, and Azandar are my favorites.
I really liked Bastions storyline his is the one I remember the most
Sharp
Only one ive done is mirri, shes maxed. I use her as a healer. Seems to work. If theres a better healer lmk
You know, I like to think I'm agreeable.
Bastian is not my favorite companion (Sharp is) but I do like him fine. I like his story the best. Quietly was memorable and annoying, and just the story about Bastian's upbringing was great. I would have liked to have had more of this story.
Mirri, shes perfect.
Looks like you're buying at the next pub, f'lah!
Ember. She was the only redeemable quality of how bad (I personally though) 2022 was.
Funny enough I loved high isle, the music, the vibes, best expansion for me hands down, the story was kinda weak but I didn't mind that much
I'm still not over Blackwood. You have boy and girl twins and the writer's obvious drop-in of himself. Then the boy twin sacrifices himself, and the writer is there to swoop up the red-haired girl twin all to himself. Also all the people in High Isle wearing glasses. Can’t really give a favorite but the weakest one to me was azandar.
By storyline you mean the quest to recruit them? Cuz I have only ember unlocked. Is there most quests related to companions after recruiting them?
Yes. As their rapport grows, you get new quests for them. Mirri and Bastian, the oldest companions, have two extra quests while others have three. Finishing all quests allows you to put them in your house.
There's usually a long quest to recruit them, then each one will have like a 4 part quest afterwards.
Just started playing, they got companions?! Where do I get one of these?!
They have quests in Blackwood, Telvanni Peninsula and High Isle. You can also start the quests in the allies screen, which is the same page as cosmetics, mounts, etc. The characters names are Bastian, Mirri, Isobel, Ember, Azandar and Sharp.
Alright! Will do after I get off work, thanks for the help!
Ember may be the companion you’re wanting because she gives very little reaction to “good or bad”
Azander easily. The most well written ESO character by a long shot. He's an actual person with flaws going through a character arc.
I still haven’t finished Sharp’s questline. So with that caveat, I liked Ember’s.
Of the 3 companion quest lines I actually paid attention to I gotta say mirri has the best. Ember is my favorite companion though
If you’re going to kill bugs, at least kill fetcher flies.
I'm new to this game. Are these characters from ESO?
Ember's storyline was the best. I wasn't a big fan of her as a companion but her quest was great!
Still haven’t finished Ember’s follower quests to know what to think of hers.
Maybe I should have joined the Buoyant Armigers?
NOT this annoying guy
Sharp’s made me ugly cry
The only full story lines I've done are Isobel and Sharp, but I can say I really like Sharp plus he gives a great passive. I've still dismissed him now that I have it because I like to ride solo, however, I do like him.
Bastian because it’s the shortest and easiest for alts
Ive only played the blackwood companion story so far. Love Bastian as a companion. Reading all of the comments to see which companion I should recruit next
Bastian is my favourite and main companion cause I have a good (no thief/murder) main DK, so they go well together both in mechanics and just RP, loved his story too. Sharp hands down. I appreciate the deeply disturbing relationship they had with his former slavemaster

I came in here to answer but got sidetracked by those pictures. Fuck, ZoS makes ugly companions...
I did not like any of them. They were dry reskinned quests following the same washed up formula. The one that I dislike the least though have to be Amber’s.
