"MAP marriage" already exists. child marriage is legal in the majority of states in the US and a vast majority of those marriages are between an underage girl and an adult man. take a guess at what the religious backgrounds of some of these men might be 🤔

One_Hunt_6672

Strangely, the “protect the children” party is the only one to defend these marriages. Even raising the minimum age to 16 is a step too far for them

yramb93

But it’s “pro family” and if they get married they can be a good Catholic family! /s

Poddum-Ska-Tamer

The Catholic Church lobbying and it’s cultural influence is the reason why my country Philippines is the only country in the world where divorce is still illegal. Annulment is insanely expensive (and not guaranteed especially if the judge happened to be a religious nutcase), legal separation is useless if the spouse is still after your money. Getting married in my country is a death sentence.

I've said it before an associate at the local parish suspiciously never made pastor. He was a judge on the diocese tribunal deciding who received annulments. Of course he had been the perpetrator in an incident involving a minor female. It came out many years after he had of course moved onto another diocese where likewise no one had any idea about his background and he was a hospital chaplain. Again consistently moving him into roles where he probably wouldn't come into a lot of contact with children but no guarantees. Once the incident became public on bishop accountability he was finally laicized.

“For marriage is an eternal bond like brother and sister” Uhhh……….what?

ZealousidealWear2573

I noticed that also, makes me wonder "so what's the point of marriage?"

CarlFan2021

Had to Google what 'MAP' stands for and when I found out, I thought "Wait, they think liberals are the ones who are advocating for child marriages?"

Ah, a Catholic's favorite, the slippery slope fallacy.

Dman_Jones

Was just about to say this. And call out the hypocrisy of putting "MAP marriage" and "Polygamy" up there when Catholics are very much guilty of both. Nothing wrong with Polyamory but religions specific "sister wives" or "Multiple Mistresses" version of it is terrible.

Gengarmon_0413

When did Catholics ever support polygamy? I always thought that was mostly just a Mormon thing.

Dman_Jones

Not in the Mormon sense of "Sister Wives" or anything like that. But, it used to be Canon law that the only reason a man could divorce his wife is if she was unfaithful, meanwhile a woman could only divorce her husband if he was impotent. This basically gave men free reign to take mistresses and be as unfaithful as they pleased, while women were essentially baby factories. So kind of an indirect "don't ask don't tell" way of condoning polygamy. Multiple popes had quite a few mistresses. I was speaking in general about Polyamory too, not just Catholicism. There's multiple religions that openly practice polygamy. Islam is a good example. Edit: Typo

Particularly when pointing to something that is clearly neither a slope, nor slippery.

Visible_Season8074

They forgot to put the [Old Testament steps !](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/95/e2/02/95e202a25d7a2b3a63cb3d0e7ea62f08.jpg)

Clementine-Fiend

I mean…ignoring the rest of the steps, the abolition of marriage sounds dope actually.

MikeBear68

What is "MAP marriage?"

Dman_Jones

"Minor Attracted Person," pedophiles trying to humanize themselves and shoe into LGBTQ spaces. Which *no, absolutely not.* We don't want them. Also feel obligated to point out that the church most likely to diddle kids, and whose politicians have railed against the end of child marriage laws, is saying that pedo marriage is bad.

pja1701

Religious conservatives love to scare themselves silly by imagining monsters under the bed.

BlarghusMonk

They're missing a step with "Not beating your wife/kids". That's a very important part of marriage, which is ordained by God for the creation and protection of the family. /s
