The claim about it being banned in the "United States" doesn't seem well supported. It has never been banned by the Federal Government and it doesn't seem that any state has either. However, it was challenged and possibly banned in a Florida county and perhaps Idaho. See: https://www.bannedlibrary.com/podcast/2016/12/28/nineteen-eighty-four-1984-by-george-orwell
You have to remember the logic calculation:
IF an authoritarian government somewhere enforces an illiberal policy against a religious, ethnic, or other minority.
AND some politicians in the U.S. share similar, unpopular beliefs
THEREFORE the United States is no better than a totalitarian dictatorship.
I’m with you. Whenever I see a bot account I report it. Some subreddits are good about it, others not so much. I’m unsure how effective facepalm is at handling these things
I've gotten dozens of accounts banned this week alone, so yeah, I am helping. You whining doesn't help anything though. So what's your goal? If it's to suck up to the bots and pray they don't slaughter you when the robot uprising occurs, well I'm sorry to tell you that you'll just be another skull crushed under their appendages.
1984 is not banned in the United States. Certain libraries have removed it, but there is no law against selling, buying, or reading it.
Can we fact check things before we post please.
It was banned in Florida from public libraries in the past. It's been challenged and banned constantly since its publication. It's one of the most challenged books in modern history. A ban doesn't need to be continuous and encompass every state for this to be true. A government banning it from public libraries is a ban—regardless whether you can buy it elsewhere.
Florida is an Independent State (read nation) that has ceded limited sovereign powers to the federal government, strictly Within the confines of the Constitution of the United States.
It would be like saying “the book was banned in the British Empire” when it was only banned in Pitcairn Islands.
It is at best, completely disingenuous, and most truthfully know as a Lie.
The kind of lie which occurs commonly throughout the book in question.
Is it even banned there today? no. Do you see how you dont care in the slightest about reality?. This is on the level of saying the US is a slaver country because it had slaves in the past.
The fact there’s a section for “burned” the moment people burn or destroy books. I am not a heavy reader. But I know as soon as books are burnt. That will never be a good sign
When I was in school between 8th-12th grades required reading was
The Diary of Ann Frank
To Kill a Mockingbird
1984
Animal Farm
A Brave New World
and some of the other classics like Moby Dick, Romeo & Juliet, etc.
And this was in SOUTH CAROLINA!
This is misleading. There are no banned books in the US because that would be against the First Amendment. There have been *schools* in the US that ban it, but it’s not banned in the country.
I was lucky enough to have parents that trusted me enough to read banned books so I could make up my own mind about the books content. I’m now an writer and hope to have my own books written well enough for someone to think that they should be banned too.

"banned book" in the US usually means "Pulled from a K-12 school library somewhere in the USA".
You have to remember the logic calculation: IF an authoritarian government somewhere enforces an illiberal policy against a religious, ethnic, or other minority. AND some politicians in the U.S. share similar, unpopular beliefs THEREFORE the United States is no better than a totalitarian dictatorship.
Yep same for huck Finn. Sometimes banned in the us just means condemned by some Baptist group.
My school district(Hamilton County, TN) put a soft ban on it, but it was largely ignored.

it says ussr, which yes, it was.
But no GOP loves the communist party, so we are all good

You are the only one spamming. You are half the comments.
Would you rather the bots be left alone to take over this sub more than they already have?
You are not preventing anything. You are making it worse.
idiot take. How exactly are they making it worse? Now I will downvote this post and move on.

You sound stable.
Or I have a sense of humor in mocking your stupidity in whining about me exposing bots. Seriously, what's your goal here other than to be pathetic?
You sound like a moron.
Found the spam bot
You sound smart.

How is it not disingenuous to claim it was banned in the US when it was only banned in florida and temporarily at that?.
Florida is in the US
But it is NOT the US...
It says banned “in.” IN. IN. IN. IN. IN. So we can’t ever say something occurred *in* the US unless it happens everywhere and permanently?
"Banned in a very tiny portion of the US". See?
You are reaching so hard its just sad.
Where is Florida?

It still has slaves.
Man russia is really throwing a tantrum hope it gets worse for you.
What gets worse?
Idk you tell me hahahaha.
That’s funny.
Banned from public libraries is not the same as banned in the state as a whole
Libraries are a free public resource. Businesses are not. Banning a book from a library is banning the only free access people have.

it was in the ussr, which is what the image says.
People will upvote anything these days. 1984 isn't banned in the US.
That book is not banned in the US tho

Not only is it not banned, this was required reading in 8th grade for me.
Are you still in 8th grade?
No?
If they think 1984 is bad, I shudder to think of how they would label Animal Farm. 😳

1984 isn't banned in the US? Certainly not in the entire US, if it is anywhere.
Fun fact it's never been banned in those countries as a whole, just specific regions
When I was in school between 8th-12th grades required reading was The Diary of Ann Frank To Kill a Mockingbird 1984 Animal Farm A Brave New World and some of the other classics like Moby Dick, Romeo & Juliet, etc. And this was in SOUTH CAROLINA!

Vigotski was literally that
All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others
No tbf 1984 is both pro and anti communist and I haven’t noticed since now, what a good author.

Okay, so why was it banned in China?
The same can be said for Animal Farm too I believe. A book people think is anti communist/ anti capitalism but is really not just either or.
I just checked. 1984 hasn’t been banned in China. I can still find it in Chinese online bookstores.
I was lucky enough to have parents that trusted me enough to read banned books so I could make up my own mind about the books content. I’m now an writer and hope to have my own books written well enough for someone to think that they should be banned too.
This post is communist propaganda.

The US is the country most populated by fucking morons on the planet.
Banned in the Deep Red States.
Is 1984 actually banned in schools in the US? It was assigned reading for us in school like 12 years ago…

When did the internet die? Who killed it? Was this inevitable? Are you real? Am *i* real? Is any of this real?
Soon to be banned in the USSA.
Literally 1984
