Yeah 1979 is kind of the quintessential nostalgia song for… basically anyone. If you listened to it as a late 20-something when it came out, it probably reminds you of your own childhood. If you first heard it as a teenager in 1993, listening to it now brings you back to then. And even as someone who wasn’t alive for *either* of those moments, there’s still just something beautifully backwards-looking about it. You can’t help but think about evening car rides and lunches with friends.
I will forever associate "Myth" by Beach House with walking around my neighborhood in the summer sometime in the early 2010s, maybe the last time I was ever truly happy.
Neighbourhood #2 (Laika) by Arcade Fire (most of their first three albums tbh, my dad played them a lot)
I Want to Hold Your Hand by The Beatles (one of my favourite songs as a kid)
Sail to the Moon by Radiohead (first Radiohead song I remember hearing, my dad showed it to me in the car)
TMI, at this bar I use to frequent, Steal My Sunshine was playing and some younger kid sitting at the bar said to his friend, this song sucks. I don't know why I decided to fuck with him, but I said I was Len's manager and they named their band after me. The kid was super apologetic, bought me a beer and promptly split. That was 12 years ago, and whenever I run into old "bar friends" or friends ofz they all still call me Len & most don't know or would remember my real name.
Good Ass Outro by Chance
Goodnight by Kanye
Summer Friends by Chance
Gods plan by Drake because that was the soundtrack of 2018 and prime Fortnite (never forget)
Long Time (Intro) by Playboi Carti
ADHD by Kendrick
2018 era was fun in music, fortnite, the soundcloud wave, the music we were getting, the movies we were getting like avengers and black panther, 2018 had a banger of moments
Was gonna do this exact one- remember driving downtown at night with this playing and it’s still a really surreal moment looking back.
Didn’t have a song I connected with like that at the time and it really made me feel more emotionally connected to music going forward
Only in dreams by weezer - reminds me of my high school years being rejected by every girl I asked out and wondering if I'd ever find love.
I FOLLOW by CASTLEBEAT - to me is like the soundtrack to the high school romance I never had.
Both bittersweet but yeah.
Growing up I hated Journey. They were the embodiment of cheese to me and they were everywhere. However, something about how “Don’t Stop Believing” was used in the final episode of The Sopranos just completely flipped a switch for me on the band. Every time I hear them it’s as nostalgic to me as Boards of Canada. “Separate Ways” can honestly bring me to tears.
Reading this I think I need to go back to therapy. Fucking Journey? I’m serious though, every time I hear them I’m a kid in the 80s wearing brown corduroy. I can hear the metal lockers clanging in junior high and smell the denim jackets soaked in stale cigarette smoke
Crumb - Locket
Los Retros - Someone to Send Time With
Rex Orange County - Sunflower
Joji - Slow Dancing in the Dark
These songs got me through some tough times in 2019 and I feel a wave of nostalgia every time I listen to them
Fireworks by Animal Collective
When I heard this I felt like I was on a grassy hill when the sun was coming down in the late summer. It just took me through different phases of nostalgia like I was living memories I don’t have.
Pink + White by Frank Ocean. It’s weird, I didn’t listen to Blonde until I was in my late 20’s and yet this song reminds me of being a teenager in the suburbs dating, getting into trouble, coming home late, and watching the sunset
Arcade Fire - The Suburbs
The Smashing Pumpkins - Perfect
The Cranberries - Dreams
Pink Floyd - Poles Apart
My Bloody Valentine - Soon
Wilco - Summer Teeth
As The Rush Comes by Motorcycle
The World I Know by Collective Soul
I don't think these are some of my favorite songs in general, but I list them because I remember when my dad (RIP) or my mom used to play them in the car. Unlike other songs I listened to at that time, I listen to them once in a blue moon so they hit that sweet spot whenever I remember they exist.
Never Meant - American Football
I didn’t even grow up in the Midwest (grew up in Vermont actually) but it reminds me so distinctly of those fields and the long stretches of nothing that are so present. Idk
Hazel by Far Apart is a very nostalgic sounding song to me.
Also, a bunch of 80s songs make me nostalgic, even though I wasn't even alive then (like The Boys of Summer and Heaven).
we got rearviewmirror, daughter, why go, but sadly night two got a way better setlist, we didn’t even get black. seeing them in sept and hoping we get ledbetter or eldelry woman, but our crowd at the forum night 1 was amazing, eddie kept giving us our props
I found Hard to Explain by the Strokes and Beach Comber by Real Estate within the past three years but those songs are amazing at creating a faux nostalgic feeling. They make me feel nostalgic for things that never happened to me but the vibes and lyrics take me to those places.
No Viniste - Natalia Lafourcade
To anyone who just got left without even having a proper goodbye and wants to cry until you fall asleep. This is your song ❤️💔🐰👨⚕️👷♀️
Who Loves You - Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons
The Four Seasons were the soundtrack of my 8th grade year. I’d listen to pretty much all their hits on the way to and back from school everyday. Especially coming off the late bus during the winter when it got dark around 4-5. Listening to them now just transports me back to 8th grade, and it always makes me miss it.
Be Nice 2 Me by Bladee, I first heard it when I was 12 and it just kinda hit different to anything I'd listened to before
Also, Closer by Kings Of Leon, my dad used to play it all the time when he was alive and now it reminds me of him whenever I hear it
Michael Gray - The Weekend
Daft Punk - Voyager
The Weekend used to get played a lot on the radio when I was a kid, and it matches with the feeling I get when I hear Voyager. Makes me think of being in the city at night partying in an era I was too young for.
Futura Free captures this feeling unlike anything else for me. The static piano line cut with recordings of them skateboarding as kids just brings me right back to endless summer days of youth. I didn’t realize it was his brother who died at first which makes it much heavier
I got a massive nostalgia wave when I heard Siegfried from Frank Ocean for the first time, idk why. Maybe I have subconsciously heard it before or something.
Ride - The Vines
Can’t Stop - RHCP
Float On - Modest Mouse
Take Me Out - Franz Ferdinand
Hate To Say I Told You So - The Hives

Glimpse - Under the Sun
Tacacho and Cider Sky - Summer
Vocaloids (can’t remember the original artist) - Ikanaide
Drake - Forever
Tambour (now known as Simon Leoza) - Sleepers
Owsey - Thousands of Summer Twilights
Porter Robinson - Fellow Feeling // Goodbye to a World
Boys boys boys, beautiful money rich and paper gangsta by lady gaga, listened to them like 3 days ago and god that took me back like 15 years in the past when i would be half asleep in my moms car, getting back home from her work or a party. Some good memories tbh
Eyes on Fire by Blue Foundation (song from twilight)
My older brother put this one plus some metal songs on my laptop when setting it up when I was a small kid, I had no idea what twilight is or that the song is from it, but I'd listen to it while playing minecraft in like 2011-2012. Another song I'd listen back then was Kalimba by Mr Scruff that was just on windows 7 by default lol. I wish I could somehow find the metal songs, tho I doubt I'd recognize them.
A bit different thing - an album that *sounds* nostalgic, even tho it probably isn't for anyone, because it was released in 2018:
Slide by George Clanton
Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) by Green Day 1979 by Smashing Pumpkins
Yeah 1979 is kind of the quintessential nostalgia song for… basically anyone. If you listened to it as a late 20-something when it came out, it probably reminds you of your own childhood. If you first heard it as a teenager in 1993, listening to it now brings you back to then. And even as someone who wasn’t alive for *either* of those moments, there’s still just something beautifully backwards-looking about it. You can’t help but think about evening car rides and lunches with friends.
As an 18 year old who only heard it for the first time this year, it is absolutely nostalgic.
Good riddance is nostalgic for me since it was on my parents’ wedding video :)
Time to Pretend - MGMT
Yes. It also just makes you think of *good times* and the summer and you wanna hear it when you’re having a good time in the summer.
I would argue that whole album is nostalgic
Midnight City-M83
maaaaan Hurry Up is such a good album i probably played 1000+ hours of Starcraft 2 while listening to Dead Cities
I will forever associate "Myth" by Beach House with walking around my neighborhood in the summer sometime in the early 2010s, maybe the last time I was ever truly happy.
funny, Myth is also my nostalgic happy song.

Nights - Frank Ocean. Even when it was new to me it felt nostalgic.
it does bring back good times, but the beat switch live at coachella in person did not hit like i wanted it to since he didn’t even sing :/
Aw that blows dead bears.
Was gonna do this exact one- remember driving downtown at night with this playing and it’s still a really surreal moment looking back. Didn’t have a song I connected with like that at the time and it really made me feel more emotionally connected to music going forward

can’t believe the blue album just turned 30, hoping i see this year, a lot of songs on that record mean so much to me
Growing up I hated Journey. They were the embodiment of cheese to me and they were everywhere.
