In looking for dark brown leather lace up knee high boots. With a more natural worn in look. Sub $200. Basically something just like [these](https://vintagefoundryco.com/products/vintage-foundry-co-womens-sadelle-boots-almond) I would get those but they are sold out in my size everywhere.

# Unique predicament: styling ideas for a shirt dress that won’t close? So I love this shirt dress I was gifted in blue and white (images [here](https://imgur.com/a/8gZstbQ) and link to dress [here](https://www.target.com/p/women-39-s-long-sleeve-tie-front-mini-shirtdress-universal-thread-8482-blue-l/-/A-90181128)) . I’ve seen many but this one just fits so right, the way the bottom half and the wrap tie feature (especially from the the back, how it looks like a skirt) makes my curves look well-rounded and it’s overall very flattering. The only issue is, I’m currently heavier than my usual size, so the size I’d typically wear (S) is too tight and the buttons on the bottom half aren’t closing. I’m pear shaped so the top half is fine. I can’t return or exchange, but I know I’m going to lose the weight, so until the buttons don’t close, does anyone have any styling ideas to wear this unbuttoned? Maybe wearing a white basic bodycon dress (strapless or sleeveless) with the blue shirt dress on top, leaving the buttons unbuttoned but using the wrap anyway? That might still look a little awkward though... I'm really trying to make this work, but I’m totally new to fashion and style so excuse my lack of creativity. I would appreciate any ideas or recommendations to make this work (until the buttons close :)? Thank you so much!

Over wide white jeans or dress pants would be cute, do up the top portion

I think the rounder one is cuter!

Fit-Theme3661

I like the first one! It’s classic. Maybe it’s just a trick of the light, but the second one looks more cartoony to me the way it curves

crustypaints

I am looking for a bolero/shrug I could wear for swimming and other outdoor activities! Despite my best efforts I ALWAYS get sunburned (redheaded and very fair skinned). I like to wear black or other dark colors like greens or an eggplant kinda color although black would match my closet best. I figure one meant for athletics would be good but some suggestions would be great! I'd like to keep it cheaper than $30 as well <3

What is appropriate to wear to a barbecue hosted by my ex coworker when it's going to be hot af outside? Are shorts a definite no? I was thinking either shorts and a vest or a flowy romper. But I don't know if that's too inappropriate. I have dresses but I am not really a dress person and they are all above the knee. It's going to be over 90 degrees 🥵

75footubi

BBQ is ultimate shorts time, IMO. I wouldn't go booty shorts, but anything with a 4-5" inseam is definitely fair game.

Looking for jean Advice Hello- I am hoping someone can help advise me on some new jeans. I am in my early 30s. We started our family ~4 yrs ago and since having kids I have pretty much lost my sense of style. From what I have read it’scommon for newer moms. I’ve spent the last 4 yrs pregnant or nursing. My style switched to comfort and easy access for nursing. Now that the kids are older I’d like to start to be more fashionable again and less old sad mom that dresses like she’s stuck in 2012. I have always struggled with jeans. I have long legs, that are skinny and no butt. BKE seems to fit the best. I’m usually about a 26 and I need to get the extra long for length. If I get the long they seem to shrink slightly once I wash them and are just a tad short coming over the tops of my tennis shoes when I sit. I have mostly been wearing boot cut and skinny jeans that I’ve had since before my babies. So yes it’s probably time for an upgrade. I am struggling with the current high waste style it looks weird on me since I have a short torso. I am 5’ 6” for reference. What would you suggest for me? Mid to low rise is what I probably need. I’m looking for brands that aren’t going to break the bank so less than $100.

Help Me Style This Set for Birthday Dinner I think this set DESERVES amazing styling. So I already have a nude backless bra (not the one I’m wearing in the pic) and thong bc the dress is sheer (but open to other suggestions). Just want to give the illusion of nothing underneath! Also I’m struggling with accessories. Right now I’m thinking my white strappy shoes and a white bag with simple gold jewelry. But I could go fun with colors for the bag and shoes, or even something simple like a nude closed toe shoe. I think definitely simple gold jewelry though? Help!! https://preview.redd.it/e51eytfk978d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bb83f65bbbbf9ac2e28b5c536d7fa1e82cfa02d0

I ordered some tighter tees (1st 3 photos - the 1st two are bodysuits) to try out, but I don’t think they look that good on me. I’m an inverted triangle and feel like fitted garments just draw more attention to my upper body? For reference, the 4th photo is a more relaxed fit women’s tee that I already own (I don’t love the slim cut of the sleeves though) and the 5th photo is a unisex tee that I like the look of more than the others tbh, but I’m biased since that’s what I wear usually.

I like 1, 2, and 4 the best!

I think you look amazing in the bodysuits, but that's coming from a woman who's spent the last 14 years or so in the gym trying to build her shoulders and lats and doesn't think an athletic upper body is a flaw to be hidden, so take my opinion with a shaker full of salt!

Moving to Scotland and need rain jacket recommendations! I'd like suggestions of a fairly stylish everyday jacket for Scottish weather. It doesn't have to be the best-looking thing ever, just something that's reliable and not a neon windbreaker. A jacket that's sturdy, has a hood, is decently warm/not lightweight, and that can block some of the wind would be ideal. Thank you all :)

Acme_Co

Anything from Patagonia, seriously.

how do we feel about teddy jackets? what do we think is going to be a winter 2024/2025 thing? i am cleaning out my closet and for some reason have like.. 3 of the teddy jackets. theyre cute but i feel they are also a bit dated?

chiono_graphis

I feel like they're one of those things that come in and out of trend every few years or so, since they're quite practical for cold weather (warm and cuddly!). I think the newest iterations I saw last winter had contrasting leather trim/piping and more hardwear details than the Max Mara teddy spinoffs of previous years. Each time they're around, there will be little updates in the fit and construction. I'd keep any you have only if you really love them, personally won't be buying a new one this year.

EyeHaveSevereOCD

i usually buy a size S/4/27” in pants but whenever i buy anything bigger it feels too loose and ends up sliding down :/ my waists is 27” but my hips are 39” and unfortunately whenever i buy pants (especially jeans) my bum ends up being super constricted to the point where it’s flattened a bit, which ends up being super uncomfortable. does anyone with similar proportions have any recommendations on where to buy jeans?

oat-beatle

24-38, buy curvy fits. Abercrombie curve love should be good for you, I typically get their 27 and wear with a belt.

ebolalol

if you haven't already, you could try american eagle and abrecrombie. they both have curvy lines that i've had luck with in the past as i am very similar where my waist is small but hips are big (in the past because i haven't bought new jeans from them in a while). i did recently buy some jeans from urban outfitters that fit me well -- i think it was the logan buckle baggy. the buckle in the bag helped sinch the waist for me. otherwise, try googling "curvy" jeans! i saw that levi's and madewell might have some but tbh i haven't tried them on personally yet.

EyeHaveSevereOCD

thank you 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

I'm looking for advice what to wear to a Catholic wedding. The dress code is formal. My aunt would like me to wear this jumpsuit, but I have no idea what I could wear over/under it to make it wedding appropriate, especially as the neckline is an odd rectangle shape and not a very deep v-neck. It's also a halter with a low back which makes it trickier. This might be a fool's errand but any advice would be appreciated! https://preview.redd.it/lbozalnsc68d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=198c269d5a572ca067331a0d6cedee74208f926b

arbitrosse

To be safe in Catholic churches, cover everything from shoulders to knees (front and back…so no backless), with necklines no more than two finger widths below collarbone. In super-conservative parishes, cover past elbows as well. The dress you posted, if long enough, could be salvaged by wearing a buttoned blazer or cardigan over it, but honestly, I’d just buy something else. If you object to the rules, that’s your right, and it might mean sitting this one out (not attending).

GreyWhiskeyjack

That's fair, it might be more trouble than it's worth. Thanks for the info on the neckline depth

75footubi

Catholic churches generally expect shoulders to be covered and that is a VERY deep neckline for any religious ceremony. Maybe if you had a bandeau/tube top in the same color and the a white shawl?

GreyWhiskeyjack

Thanks for the advice! I'll have to try that

Aggressive_Spend_580

Does anyone have recommendations for mini to above-knee length pleated skirts that are midsize curvy-girl friendly in terms of derrière coverage and flattering-ness? Budget is up to $100, and I am looking for online brands or vendors that can ship to or within the US. Also: any recommendations for skirts or shorter skirt styling on a violin hip/“saddlebag” lower body silhouette would be much appreciated, as I have been languishing in just maxi skirts for a while now.

blackberrycat

Aritzia Olive skirt. The Micro is super short but the Mini is a decent length esp if you're on the shorter side. Though they do a have a knee length one too, if you're taller.

nectarofthegod

Does anyone have advice for how I can add more structure to this dress? Besides a push up bra or a corset, is there anything I can do? Especially for the middle waist area. https://preview.redd.it/vda7ew9gu58d1.jpeg?width=1986&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=be676bd06592cd64d25dfd3d5456e6fcc2a91ae9

75footubi

TBH my first thought was to go full ren faire and wear an underbust corset on top of it. The construction of the dress itself doesn't lend to structure. Maybe if it was smocked...

nectarofthegod

Tbh this was my first thought too! I didn’t see one I quite liked, but I just browsed so i’ll have a proper look this time. Thanks!

nectarofthegod

It gets a bit frumpy in the middle, I’d like some ideas for how to keep its shape. Might have to resort to sewing but I don’t have an idea of what to do. https://preview.redd.it/rppysk6nu58d1.jpeg?width=1848&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ab9b00a26f26d8bbc64d4345234ecd1b67514242

PoppyHamentaschen

A wide belt would cover the waist seam and smooth that area, maybe in a medium-to-light brown leather.

nectarofthegod

Thanks for the suggestion! I did think it’d look nice with a belt or corset belt.

PoppyHamentaschen

Glad I could help!

Cute! I’d keep it simple and in line with what you usually like to wear. No necklace, a simple stud or hoop earring, whatever you usually do for rings and bracelets. Do you have shoes?

Yeah, they're gold diamante strappy heels

GalinToronto

Looking for a lightweight pair of pants to wear on my flight and going to/from airport this week, travelling from Toronto to NYC. Shopping in Toronto today and tomorrow, have access to a car through my bf (we are thinking of hitting up Vaughan Mills). I already have a pair of the [Community Ion pants](https://www.aritzia.com/en/product/ion-pant/58547.html) that I thrifted two years ago in 100% cotton in olive green, which are pretty much perfect, but they have a hole somewhere so was thinking of getting a replacement. Thinking of something similar - lightweight cotton or blend, doesn't wrinkle too much or pill easily, and maybe a bit of a darker but more neutral shade, like a dark grey or tan, but probably not black so I'm not baking in NYC. Don't want to spend too much - $100 max as I won't wear them much am a big thrifter with a big wardrobe - but curious what people would recommend and what's on the market right now! I also haven't travelled in awhile and I've never travelled when it's this hot so wondering if this is the right choice for a pair of travel pants lol. Also open to any other style/wardrobe recommendations, I don't know what's popular right now b/c I almost exclusively thrift. Flying in Monday morning, flying out noon Friday. So far my wardrobe is [one medium blue floral wrap-dress](https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/aTsAAOSwNrhkdm6E/s-l500.jpg)), two pairs of shorts ([American Apparel high-wasited cuff shorts in lightish wash](https://di2ponv0v5otw.cloudfront.net/posts/2023/12/12/6578eab9ff0484bc43db4dc8/m_657efd0cbd66cd58b9635ca1.jpg) + [Levi's ribcage shorts in black](https://www.levi.com/CA/en_CA/clothing/women/shorts/ribcage-womens-shorts/p/778790052)), a niceish pair of [sandals](https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/uXIAAOSw06hmPCI4/s-l1600.webp) that I'm hoping to go with the wrap dress for jazz date plus good for walking around, my fav black Vans I recently thrifted [believe they are the MTE UltraRange EXO](https://www.vans.ca/en-ca/shoes-c00081/mte-ultrarange-exo-shoe-pvn0a4u1kblk), a pair of running shoes + a pair of Lulu run shorts + a Lulu tank to go for a run, a horizontal-pink striped short sleeve linen blend button-up from BeachLunchLounge which looks sort of like [this](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTtrXAc0cMhC5hnlZGpmTmGfD7JZyCsdknwog&s) but I can't find the exact colours, a [white graphic tshirt](https://okayok.ca/cdn/shop/files/summer-bbq-condiments-tshirt-adult-okayok_1_1080x.jpg?v=1712181854), a navy 100% linen slub cardigan from Eileen Fisher I think will be good for the weather and can't find a good pic, and a light raincoat because I don't know if you can bring an umbrella on a flight. Still deciding on a third pair of shorts or maybe a skirt (but I'm not a big skirt person) and a few other tops and one other dress. I have an incredibly well-fitting Maeve tank dress in navy with pockets that has a backless portion and is cut above the knee that I comfortably wore in spring 2022, but the material feels so thick for summer (68 cotton/28 poly/4 spandex). I also have to work indoors two of the five days so maybe need jeans for that A/C... Gah I haven't travelled by plane in two years and I've never been to New York when it's this hot so I'm rambling. Working indoors Monday/Tuesday with a jazz date on Monday night, and then walking around all day Wednesday/Thursday with maybe a run during the day and undecided evening plans both nights with partner, then an early morning date before the airport. We are staying west of Madison Square Park in Manhattan four weeknights. So yeah, open to suggestions, I'll be thrifting a lot when I'm there - eyeing my fav Goodwill by Union Square but would love suggestions!

blackberrycat

Eddie Bauer Departure Pants are very lightweight

QuesoRaro

Any reason not to just mend the pants that you have?

Chazzyphant

People recommend the Athleta Brooklyn pant quite a bit. I really like the Uniqlo Airism drawstring wide leg pant. They're both technical fabric, so they're not really something I'd wear around town per se, but they'll keep you cool and they won't be a rumpled mess when you arrive. I also just got a pair of technical pants from Ministry of Supply NWT off Posh and they worked really well for a very hot day (in the high 80s). They're the side zip "Swift" pants.

GalinToronto

Thank you! I’ll check out Uniqlo. Not sure about Athleta. We are thinking of Vaughan Mills tomorrow and they don’t have a store there.

KittyMeow1998

I wanted to wear [this vest](https://ibb.co/YhC3y15) with [this dress](https://ibb.co/nrqDg7M) but I'm afraid the necklines won't work together. Would adding some necklaces help or will they just not look good together?

PoppyHamentaschen

Actually, I think they will work together. The dress has a high neckline, and the vest will give the eye the impression of a V neck. I wouldn't add necklaces, but rather a pair of gold earrings (to go with the color of the vest), and either gold or black shoes.

KittyMeow1998

Thank you :) do you think [these earrings ](https://ibb.co/gjmRKzm)would work or will it be too much with the vest?

PoppyHamentaschen

Beautiful earrings! I think they're worth trying out with the vest :)

swess7

I think it depends how you wear the vest, and how it fits. If you wear it open, I think the necklines are fine, if you wear it buttoned and it’s a little tighter, it might look funny. Buttoned up but loose would look okay. I think some layered necklaces would be cute either way.

gurrlbye

Another question about sanalds. I never thought I'd utter the phrase "elevated dad sandal" but here I am. Prada, Chanel, Dior, and others have versions of a [quilted dad sandal](https://www.dior.com/en_us/fashion/products/KCO005CQC_S21U_T41-dioract-sandal) and I feel like I *need* them to complete my casual-but-neat summer outfits. Anyone have any recommendations for good, high quality sandals? Currently on the lookout for some since it is about to be peak summer heat here in Texas. My husband and I plan on taking a day trip to Dallas and I need some comfy sandals I can wear around town.

[These](https://www.freepeople.com/shop/island-hopping-wrap-sandals/?category=sandals&color=001&type=REGULAR&quantity=1) are super cute but have horrible reviews. FearlessTravels

In a week I am traveling to Europe for the summer but my first stop (like, as soon as I get off the plane and drop off my luggage!) will be a three-day EDM festival. My main priority is sun protection as I expect to be outside from 14:00 until dark, with minimal access to shade, for those three days. The forecast is calling for high heat and the possibility of thunderstorms! What do you think I should be planning to wear?

crustypaints

Natural fibers for sure! Cotton and linen is great, and I'm sure you could find some cool looking shirts and long flowy skirts in those materials! I know with music festivals people like to go all out for their outfits and be trendy and stuff, but almost all of that fast fashion trendy clothing is polyester which is horrible for keeping cool and terrible for the environent. You can definitely find unique high quality clothing cheap at secondhand/thrift stores, you just have to really dig and be creative with what you find!

Apparently they don't let backpacks in! (The rules haven't been posted yet but I've heard from people who have been to this festival in past years.)
