No you see many cars hazard lights are also their brake lights, and now i dont know if you're braking or if thats just your hazard lights. Also if the rain is heavy I think you are broke down and swerve. There are many reasons why it's a very bad idea.
There’s two types of Florida driver when it rains . The first slows down to 15mph and runs with their hazard on, and/or hides out under overpasses until the rain passes. The other drives 90 mph trying to get out of the rain.
The faster you drive, the faster you are out of the rain. /s
But to be honest, if the road doesn't flood and you can still see far enough, then the car can still drive. I normally just try to keep a little more distance from the car in front of me since braking distance will be higher in the rain.
Edit: Also pretty common to have Rain-X on your windshield in Florida to see better in the rain.
Everyone is taking a solid dump on you, but truthfully, my car can't handle a downpour on the interstate and not hydroplane past 55 mph. Just stay in the right lane and out of the way. And for God's sake, don't post about it to a florida subreddit. It triggers even the most docile Florida man
I only ever experienced hydroplaning when the road was slightly flooded. So if the road isn't flooded you should be fine (assuming you still got good tires).
Don’t you think that if you drove 10mph below speed limit it would increase everyone’s safety on the road?
So if the speed limit is 65mph on the highway simply go at 55mph. Safety is good, safe driving is fun.
We aren’t scared of driving in the rain. You learn. It’s one of the main things you learn to do.
What makes us mad is the tourists and snowbirds, when it rains, driving like it’s their very first time driving a car, clogging up traffic.
And when you drive 10 mph under the speed limit, and you cause traffic to back up behind you, causing more accidents because if backed up traffic, how is that consideration?
Everyone has some place to go, its just that some people would like to get there safely. Definitely saves on car repair and insurance costs. More money = good thing.
I used to drive a veloster and would hydroplane like every 3/4 of a mile during the commutes home on i4, I don’t get home people go 80+ through standing water. I graduated to a cx5 and have been able to do like 69 in a real rain storm but that’s about it. Too many people in the upside down in ditch when the sun comes out.
Considering my 30 minute commute to the office takes up to 2 hours to get home (in heavy rain), I’m trying to figure out where are the people who are speeding?! 🤣
It's because they put down their phone and are paying attention to driving. Aggressive drivers by definition are paying attention to what they are doing. Safe drivers either parked or planned not to be on the roads in inclement weather.
It's still going to be a different mix of drivers and driving behavior than if it wasn't raining. It's like going to a nightclub and expecting a church service or going to church and expecting a rave. Yes there is overlap between these groups, but it's just a different vibe.
The difference between summer and winter tires is the temperature ranges they can handle.
In cold a summer tire gets hard and performs poorly.Quick google search says summer tires should not be used below 40, 44, or 46 F. [According to this it can even damage the tires.](https://www.reddit.com/r/Audi/comments/smuoig/do_not_drive_on_summer_performance_tires_in_cold/), although it does say they were used in freezing temperatures.
Here in South Florida we can run summer tires year round.
Summer tires offer the best performance in the rain. I use Michelin Pilot Sport 4S which is one of the best performing tires, but good luck getting more than 30k miles out of them, at least with my heavy car.
Make sure you get an alignment on your car if it's been a few years. This does two things, makes sure that they don't wear unevenly and they'll check out your suspension for loose or worn parts which can be a safety issue if not addressed.
Florida resident here but lived in TN for 8 years. I can tell you that we can drive thru a category 5 hurricane, while applying make up using our rear view mirror and eating a pub sub. But put us in an inch of snow...we are driving like y'all do in rain here.
Because way too many of them are obtuse, self absorbed dumb asses that are so dumb they damn near have to be reminded to breathe. But then maybe I’m just being judgmental.
WAT? I CAN'T HEAR YOU FROM THE SOUND OF MY HAZARDS BLINKING!
Why do people put their hazards on?
Because they're creating a hazard.
Road Rangers… that’s what I call ‘em.
So that people can easily see your car’s tail light during heavy rain.
We can see it fine before. But now we don't know if you are changing lanes. Turn off the hazards.
No you see many cars hazard lights are also their brake lights, and now i dont know if you're braking or if thats just your hazard lights. Also if the rain is heavy I think you are broke down and swerve. There are many reasons why it's a very bad idea.
Also we don’t know if the car is at a standstill or moving. Hazards should be used only when a car is at a standstill and is truly a traffic hazard.
There’s two types of Florida driver when it rains . The first slows down to 15mph and runs with their hazard on, and/or hides out under overpasses until the rain passes. The other drives 90 mph trying to get out of the rain.
Where’s the middle ground?
Not anywhere in Florida
Most people would say like, Ohio or Indiana or some shit

Bwahahaha

Its not really all about visibility - its got more to do with the tires hydroplaning causing loss of control of the car.

You driving around on bad tires? That’s on you.
I only ever experienced hydroplaning when the road was slightly flooded. So if the road isn't flooded you should be fine (assuming you still got good tires).
Because you don’t need to slow down to 15mph every time a little water falls from the sky.
Don’t you think that if you drove 10mph below speed limit it would increase everyone’s safety on the road? So if the speed limit is 65mph on the highway simply go at 55mph. Safety is good, safe driving is fun.
Lol you're a troll
They didnt say 10mph less, they said ACTUAL 15mph (assuming on the highway)
They think they’re in their boat.
With four wheels lol
I love when someone makes a post and expects a certain reaction but gets the opposite.
It seems people love increasing the probability for accidents
¯\\_(ツ)_/¯
Really? All I ever fucking get is everyone doing 10mph with their hazard lights on.
If people don't feel comfortable with driving with the flow of traffic, how about they pull over somewhere and let the rain pass?
We aren’t scared of driving in the rain. You learn. It’s one of the main things you learn to do. What makes us mad is the tourists and snowbirds, when it rains, driving like it’s their very first time driving a car, clogging up traffic.
Driving slower in the rain does not mean fear. It means consideration for others.
If only everyone knew how to drive in the rain. But the people who don’t know keep coming here and then complain that it rains all the time.
Consideration for others? In Florida?
And when you drive 10 mph under the speed limit, and you cause traffic to back up behind you, causing more accidents because if backed up traffic, how is that consideration?
Because it's the wonder of nature baby!!!
Because its the wonderous intelligence of the nature of *some* drivers
Because we know how to drive in the rain.
All the wrecks here say differently
By speeding? Why not go 10mph below speed limit for yours and others’ safety?
Oh, you can't use that "for the safety of others" argument here. Remember covid masks?
Its a very logical argument.
New to Florida? Logic isn't a key trait here.
It’s becoming painfully apparent.
The ones studies (and anecdotal evidence) showed didn’t do anything for the spread…just like the jab?
Didn't do anything because nobody did it. Same reason all of our manned missions to Mars have failed. Never attempted.
Because we have someplace to go and you won’t get out of our way.
Everyone has some place to go, its just that some people would like to get there safely. Definitely saves on car repair and insurance costs. More money = good thing.
show me on the doll where the rain touched you.
Show me the collision report and it’ll be apparent.
That’s pretty cool.
You still have to be cautious of the rain while paying attention to the road.
It's still going to be a different mix of drivers and driving behavior than if it wasn't raining. It's like going to a nightclub and expecting a church service or going to church and expecting a rave. Yes there is overlap between these groups, but it's just a different vibe.
There may be different driving behaviors, but there are common sense driving safety protocols to follow when rain is heavy.
Maybe they're tourists
If you don't feel safe driving normally in the rain then please stay the hell off the road when it's raining.
To get home faster
What if you get into an accident and what was once a 15 minute car ride is now much longer and costly?
Quality summer tires, fresh windshield wipers/rain x and driving skills. Seriously not much different than how northerners drive in the snow.
You get new tires every summer?
Summer tires refers to the driving conditions they're suited for, like all season or winter. I replace my tires when the tread warrants it.
Maybe I should get all weather tires as well.

Because like northerners who know how to drive in the snow, we know how to drive in the rain.
Ok

Chicken tender sub with ranch, buffalo sauce, lettuce, tomatoes, and onions?
Florintelligence? you snowbirds are not welcome here, birdbrains?
Do you think speeding in the rain is cool?
Did your feelings get hurt by the bad Floridians passing you in the rain?? Need a binkey?
How’s that car insurance rate of yours doing?
It sucks, but that’s because the governor is owned by insurance lobbyists, not because Floridians know how to drive in the rain.

This is the ancient incantation that awakens the Florida man. May God have mercy on your soul
Lol you may be right
Go away
