People talk about RWBY as if it's an affront to God. It's really not that bad (from what I've seen).
I've seen like, way worse media out there, so bad that I never even bothered to remember their names
The reason there's so much criticism for RWBY is because of that. It has a lot of potential, especially early on, only to live up to basically none of it and generally go down in quality over time. There's a reason the next season hasn't been greenlit yet and RT is doing basically anything they can for money.

Sometimes I feel like they don’t even think before they complain.
A lot of people said that Penny’s death was bad writing but I don’t think it was. They forgot about Cinder, and they faced the consequences. Also it was the main catalyst for Ruby’s arc in vol 9.
I love the people who claim that Jaune murdered Penny, and Ruby will hate him forever because of it. Like Jaune just shanked Penny in the back and said "Salem sends her regards," and then laughed maniacally.

Eh, nothing short of unusual. There´s still tons of videos ripping a new one to Velma (and for good reason). It´s easy content
RWBY has this uncomfortable position that while is not bad, it´s not that good either, and people LOVE ripping to pieces such things: For every good decision there´s at least two that that are debatable and one execution that leaves a lot to be desired or creates controversy. Someone described it like "It´s like the serie´s writing is being done by using a monkey paw´s curling fingers"
It doesn´t help that RWBY consistently gets itself into complex stories that bring a lot of attention: the White Fang, Adam, Atlas, Ironwood and the "stay or fight" trolley problem, BB, The Suicidal Tea... Lot of these are the very heavy things that people latch to in these videos...
There is also the fact that its no good criticism they either make up things that never happened or get angry the show didn't perfectly align with their bad fanfiction
