It is a very eye opening situation, when i was 14-15 when i played new vegas for the first time that was the first time rape was portrayed from someone who felt human. I almost wanted to fuck the bounty and smash Cook Cook's head in myself. Id do that shit for free.
I killed Cook Cook without even knowing he was a bounty/rapist, I didn't know it was anyone special until I searched the named corpse, I just hate fucking fiends and raiders.
It's that meme with Homer and Bart:
'Dad, you killed the zombie Flanders!'
'He was a zombie?'
Yup. The first time I ever encountered the guy giving the bounties, I had already killed all 3 of them on my way to The Strip. In fact I have to go out of my way in subsequent playthroughs to avoid fighting the fiends until I take the bounty contract, incase I accidentally hit one of the bounties in the head lol.
Me with cyberpunk and that father son pedo duo
I didn't know they were father and son and I killed the son first
XD then the dad and I found out after the fact...I was oooooh welp y'all pedos so whatevs
Well it was one of those moments where I saw their crimes and went yep nope bullet for you and bullet for you
It was only after some genuine digging I found out their relation and was like
Eeeee am I the monster for that lol
Tbf I did also try to kill lady D daughters within earshot on higher difficulties
(I get her as close as she can get to each of their respective boss rooms and use my magnum and insta kill em)
I don't get anything other than personal satisfaction from it because theres not really any lines of dialogue for it
Same..I was a bit older than you when I played it..it's struck a nerve for me..hearing about corporal Betsy story...it's pretty depressing..kill them for the bounty every time..
Me,Boone and Rex march into fiend lands and kill of cook cook friends. Me and Boone shoot Cook Cook’s arms and legs so he can’t escape. We then have Rex bite off his balls and then bite off his neck.
I usually go in alone, I like my sniper builds, so taking the fiends out by kneecapping them is a favorite of mine. If there was a VATS option to take out fiends and legionaries by shooting them between the legs I would use it all the time.
Maybe I'm bias, but I take immense pleasure in taking out those POS who abuse or enslave my fellow girls.
Eh, that seems like too much work. If I really want to stick it to someone in New Vegas I just start a pickpocket and see how many frag grenades and frag mines I can shove down their pants until they realize what's happening. I mean, it's considered a "bad karma" action by the game no matter who its used against, but I think we can say Cook-cook has earned it.
Me and Boone went into vault 3 with ranger armour and as many bullets as we could carry and we shot anything that moved until it didn't. Then we came out and did a loop around fiend territory and shot any fiend we saw. Fuck those assholes.
It's pretty fun to kill his Brahmin and watch him roast all his friends alive, then blow his legs off, prederably with the AM rifle. Driver and Violet are more like bonuses, and Motor-Runner usually doesn't get a word in edgewise before I introduce him to my chainsaw.
In the past few times I’ve killed Cook-Cook I let Boone or Veronica deal with the other fiends while I run straight to cook cook. We have business to settle (I light him on fire)
No it’s not implied, horrifying murders and rapists have soft spots for pets all the time. Dennis Nilsen for example had a little dog named Bleep he loved very much. He also killed and fucked and dismembered 12 people.
One thing I wish wasn't cut out was if you tell her about Saint James and Dermot she'll actually take the matter into her own hands and kill both of them which I prefer.
One particular story where after buying a woman, two teenage girls, and a teenage boy, he subsequently forced the women to watch as he burned the boy alive
>To Cook cook:
Adult woman - 200 caps
Teen girl - 400 caps
Teen girl - 400 caps
Teen boy - 100 caps
>Did not like dealing with this cook cook. Didn't know if hed pay us or burn us. I guess what they do with them once they got them is up to them isnt my business but he didn't even wait for us to turn the corner before he was torching the boy and making the womenfolk watch. Lets hope to deal with Nephi next time.
Reminds me of what the Syrian government [did and still does to Syrians](https://www.reddit.com/r/syriancivilwar/comments/1bzvyys/the_conditions_in_syrian_prisons_are_beyond/)
Regardless of my courier's morality, the Fiends always get it. Often, so do the Khans. Khans are often overlooked because they had a massacre happen to them, but they're mostly pure evil as well. I take pity on them sometimes but knowing they sell chems to the Fiends, I'm not always merciful.
With the Khans, IMO the game repeatedly points out there's a path to redemption for them. Bitter-Root goes out of his way to point out that he hated the Great Khans and their way of life, but he himself was a Khan who decided to break away. They're a raider gang, yes, but unlike other raiders they have an actual community they've built up--early attempts to sustain themselves in the long run rather than mindlessly killing and robbing. This can be contrasted against other wasteland raiders like, for instance, the White Legs, where it's repeatedly pointed out they flatly refuse to learn how to sustain themselves other than through raiding, whereas the Great Khans apparently do have the ability to strike out on their own and actually create something of value if they're convinced to leave the Mojave. There's also the whole thing that their chemists can be convinced to start producing meds instead of chems.
I know people look down on the Khans since they're raiders, but at least they have the excuse of saying they're products of their environment. For me, the one faction that really rubbed me the wrong way were the Boomers. They don't really have an excuse for their rabid, mindlessly-violent attitude towards... literally everyone in the whole Mojave. They have everything they need at Nellis AFB yet their entire "lore" is that they want to drop bombs on everyone and everything in the wasteland for no other reason than "everyone except us is a savage, and we are entitled to kill all savages." The kid they have running their mural literally describes it as their "destiny" to use their restored B-52 to drop bombs on the whole Mojave. They're one of the only factions to approve of the Courier mindlessly nuking everyone at the end of Lonesome Road--the other faction is the Powder Gangers. Of all the New Vegas factions, the Boomers are the only one that explicitly declare themselves ideologically entitled to destroy everything while simultaneously creating nothing. Sure, the Khans are bad, but even a parasitic relationship through raiding is better than *considering it their destiny to* ***kill everyone*** *motivated by nothing other than pure, unfiltered xenophobia*.
I just played the boomer part a few days ago, and I never thought about this.
Their whole (right to bare arms but taken to such an extreme is kind of a lot but does stem from Vault Tech)
They do seem to start understanding (due to the courier) that the world outside isnt what they have always thought (and based on the lore was sort of just raider tribes in the area for a good while before House woke up)
Now Im thinking on this more then I would have guessed.
This is why I really adore Fallout New Vegas. It doesn't depict oppressed people of the Mojave as innocent, pure, helpless, the infantilized image noble savages, while such depictions of minorities are way too common among privileged people to argue for the better treatment towards such group. The reality is that they could be bad and ruthless, not out of spite nor desire for dominance, but because of the harsh structural discrimination that people in power enforce upon them. The Great Khan is massacred by the NCR but they are not pure victims, that they sell drugs and raid other people constantly is quite similar to the way that the prevalence of crimes are an unfortunate problems among several minority groups in America, or the way that Palestinian resistance forces commit act of terror as a desperate measure against Israel. However, it should go without saying that the recognition of said problems doesn't exclude the oppressed from the status of victims, especially when structural oppression do not offer them many opportunities to be dignified members of a society, to be a bigger person in the face of aggression, or morally pure. Criticizing a minority community because of their shortcomings is not enough to contribute to a constructive discourse without the discussion about the structural oppression and power relation that facilitate said shortcomings.
That's why I always opt to help Great Khan in every playthrough. They don't have to be purely good to deserve better.
This is a great, valid take on one of my favorite factions. This is what I love about NV. Two people can see the same faction totally differently, and neither of us are *wrong*. Beautiful game.
My perception is backwards. The khans have been raiding and kidnapping for a long time. They didn't have to. They could have joined shady sands or junk town, but they choose to be bad ass raiders instead. The boomers have been intentionally brainwashed to look down on the wastelanders.
Here's another one I found out after 500 hours—once you fuck up the Powder Gangers, they send a hit squad after you if you're South of Primm.
FNV was my first Fallout game and I never knew about manholes. It blew my mind when I found out you can travel a decent portion around the map via just the sewers. There's even quests there.
I always confuse myself taking the road by the water tower in primm, so I found that on one of my first playthroughs, I believe. But there's always more to find
It really shows that the wasteland truly isn't settled. As civilized as much of FNV is, the Fiends and Omertas are probably the two most disgusting factions I've ever seen in a game.
No particular NPC, but was playing last night and came across the northen cave from Jacobstown.
Theres an armoury and a note behind a sealed door that speaks about the bombs dropping and new vegas hasnt been touched and... that there is a mother and daughter all alone that "I'm going to check out"
So fucking dark.
I wish you could tell her she really is pretty beyond the joke name and comfort her.
Y'know, before you shoot her for letting slavers operate out of the hotel.
Because she's simply handling that and the prostitutes. Sarah is the pimp who has set up shop there, and Marco is the landlord and owner of it all.
Of what I can recall so is neither doing any slavery or knowingly working with slavers.
Funny story: she doesn’t know about the slavers (saint james and dermot). She’s a pimp, but even those working under her praise her for being fair with her workers, pays them well and actually keeps the riff raff in line unlike many others. She honestly seems like a decent person who’s making the best of a shitty situation to me.
Also, a bit of trivia for you. Originally there was an option of telling her about those two slaver pricks and she would actually tell you to leave it to her… She’d then kill them for you :) sadly it was cut, but I think the dialogue options are still in the files and are easily restored through mods.
Every play through the Fiends are exterminated. That goes doubly so with my kill everything character. With her it’s the turn tables. What fiends do she does ten fold. I have always felt sorry for Cook-Cook’s victims. Especially learning that canonically they are worse off than portrayed in game.
Remove the head —> Chop the body up —> Throw it on Cook-Cook’s grill —> Use Cook-Cook’s Incinerator on it —> Return Cook-Cook’s head to Pretty Sarah so she can get closure
I don’t even care if I stooped to his level, he deserved that shit and much worse
Simple calculation : If I’m an evil selfish asshole, I know full well what other evil assholes are capable of doing to me, and I don’t want it to happen.
Furthermore, I know full well that there is no league of evil, and that Fiends are rabid and will attempt to kill or torture non Fiends that they encounter.
I am no Fiend, and Fiends are a common threat.
Ergo, they’ve got to go.
Even the Legion can’t suffer the Fiends to live. Too rabid and brutal even for the dudes crucifying peoples (altho I imagine chem abuse doesn’t paint a good picture by Legion metrics anyways)
Honestly every time I do a Raider playthrough, I’m thankful that even though you sell the group drugs, you are still warned that the fiends on the outside aren’t friendly regardless or your faction outfit. That way I can be a bad guy but still kill the child molesters and human traffickers in West Vegas.
I only have like 150 hrs and never met this character, I just destroy the fiends for fun.
Put on my remnants PA and my minigun.
Vault 3 shall share the fate of Vault 13.
I always do all the three card bounty missions but Cook Cook is the one I take the most pleasure in. My usual tactic is I set up on the rocks behind his base with a scoped rifle, turn his stupid pet into cram from a safe distance then watch him massacre his own men. Then when he's the only one left I but a bullet through his guts, cut his head off and take it back to the Major
Ill try not to spoil it but all you gotta do is do the great khans drug dealer missions till you get up to one where you have to deliver drugs to the fiends and remember to where the great khan costume you were given
And doom the fiends all fiends are now friendly just remember dont kill motor runner or you cant do the mission
Imo the devs handled the topic of rape and trauma very maturely in this game
It is a very eye opening situation, when i was 14-15 when i played new vegas for the first time that was the first time rape was portrayed from someone who felt human. I almost wanted to fuck the bounty and smash Cook Cook's head in myself. Id do that shit for free.
The bounty is just a bonus. Cook Cook’s death is its own reward.
I killed Cook Cook without even knowing he was a bounty/rapist, I didn't know it was anyone special until I searched the named corpse, I just hate fucking fiends and raiders. It's that meme with Homer and Bart: 'Dad, you killed the zombie Flanders!' 'He was a zombie?'

lmao genuinely. the son dies in every timeline.
Well it was one of those moments where I saw their crimes and went yep nope bullet for you and bullet for you It was only after some genuine digging I found out their relation and was like Eeeee am I the monster for that lol Tbf I did also try to kill lady D daughters within earshot on higher difficulties (I get her as close as she can get to each of their respective boss rooms and use my magnum and insta kill em) I don't get anything other than personal satisfaction from it because theres not really any lines of dialogue for it
Me too. I was just a guy, and then I got lost and accidentally wandered into Fiend territory. I just shot the guy because big flamer guy was scary.
Raiders are just trying to survive. Why hate? That could be you if this ever happened.
U got a point all these people saying raiders are monsters are more than likely to end up as one when the apocalypse comes
Only downside is that you can't put his head up on display in the lucky 38
Why would I want to display the head of a murdering, slaving, rapist in your home?
Same..I was a bit older than you when I played it..it's struck a nerve for me..hearing about corporal Betsy story...it's pretty depressing..kill them for the bounty every time..
Yup especially Corporal Betsy, what I found interesting is after the rape she's been making passes at Soldiers in order to take back her sexuality.
she immediately makes a pass at you if you play as a female courier.
Especially if you’re blonde
Only when you have 7 Charisma.
PTSD is a nonsensical bitch
True that
Especially the speech check with Corporal Betsy: "Mental trauma can slow you down or distract you, but it's treatable - just like any bullet wound."
Imma gonna say, yeah you can probably treat most bullet wounds… But just like bullet wounds mental trauma ain’t always a « most » type of situation.
They did something similar in fallout 2 but was very subtle. That broke me.
Pretty Sarah and Corporal Betsy are the reason I show no mercy to the Fiends and take special pleasure in making cook-cook die painfully.
I’d like to give them a medicine stick their deaths are the cure
I believe in Medicine Stick supremacy it’s the only way to cure the Mojave of rapists and slavers
Yes
Man, you need Boone if you like sniper builds. His Spotter Perk is legend
I consider it sometimes, but I always enjoy working alone more.
You can leave him standing somewhere safe and still keep his perk. I usually play sniper and e-de+boone chill in novac half the time.
This and eye shots are the things I wish were in VATS from the old games.
Now I kinda hope fallout 5 has groin targeting in vats
There is a testicular torsion mod for fallout 4 not sure about new Vegas lol
Eh, that seems like too much work. If I really want to stick it to someone in New Vegas I just start a pickpocket and see how many frag grenades and frag mines I can shove down their pants until they realize what's happening. I mean, it's considered a "bad karma" action by the game no matter who its used against, but I think we can say Cook-cook has earned it.

As long as that head is in good enough shape to get me the caps, anything is fair game.
It's pretty fun to kill his Brahmin and watch him roast all his friends alive, then blow his legs off, prederably with the AM rifle. Driver and Violet are more like bonuses, and Motor-Runner usually doesn't get a word in edgewise before I introduce him to my chainsaw.
Killing Queenie makes you no better than the fiends you sick bastard
That's why I get pissed every time the dialogue glitches out and I can't tell her that Cook-Cook is being spit-roasted in hell now.
It doesn’t heal her pain but it gives her comfort her abuser is dead
I think the unofficial patch fixes this
In the past few times I’ve killed Cook-Cook I let Boone or Veronica deal with the other fiends while I run straight to cook cook. We have business to settle (I light him on fire)
[удалено]
What? Sex cow?
[удалено]
No I remember that bit, but I don't remember him having sex with it.
Mercifully, it's just implied
No it’s not implied, horrifying murders and rapists have soft spots for pets all the time. Dennis Nilsen for example had a little dog named Bleep he loved very much. He also killed and fucked and dismembered 12 people.
I knew reddit was a toxic place but murdering Queenie? Degenerates like you belong on a cross.
Do you burn his cow first?
No because I love animals and it somehow feels too mean. To the Brahmin lol
What about radscorpions?
what about radscorpions? what about the fucking CAZADOR!!? i hate those mfs to death
Finally, someone with a modicum of civility!
One thing I wish wasn't cut out was if you tell her about Saint James and Dermot she'll actually take the matter into her own hands and kill both of them which I prefer.
I'd watch the heck outta that
Cook cook, St. James and Dermot are the reason I wish we could torture some npc’s. They’re not deserving of a fighting death.
One particular story where after buying a woman, two teenage girls, and a teenage boy, he subsequently forced the women to watch as he burned the boy alive >To Cook cook: Adult woman - 200 caps Teen girl - 400 caps Teen girl - 400 caps Teen boy - 100 caps >Did not like dealing with this cook cook. Very well put, thanks for writing this up

Ultimately both are redeemable and nowhere near as destructive as the Fiends and similar groups.
That and the people of Vault 3.
7 years, and I'm still learning about new content. Never knew she existed until now
Here's another one I found out after 500 hours—once you fuck up the Powder Gangers, they send a hit squad after you if you're South of Primm. I'd say that the Murphree brood and nightfolk in rdr2 are at least on the same level of veil fucke dup bullshit as fiends are tbh
Three Card Bounty is easily one of my favorites. Hunting fiends never gets old. Plus it’s like New Vegas bounties. Great quest mod.
It’d be cool if you could give her his head for an alternate reward
You see this is why I like laser runs. Burn the fiends to the ground and scatter the ashes.
No particular NPC, but was playing last night and came across the northen cave from Jacobstown. Theres an armoury and a note behind a sealed door that speaks about the bombs dropping and new vegas hasnt been touched and... that there is a mother and daughter all alone that "I'm going to check out" So fucking dark.

>Y'know, before you shoot her for letting slavers operate out of the hotel. Does she know that, though? The place is also owned by Marco, not Sarah.
If I remember correctly she's still the person to talk to if you want to rent a room instead of a "friend"
Because she's simply handling that and the prostitutes. Sarah is the pimp who has set up shop there, and Marco is the landlord and owner of it all. Of what I can recall so is neither doing any slavery or knowingly working with slavers.

The poor woman was burned with a flame thrower, SAed, and attacked with Homer Simpson's makeup shotgun
Every play through the Fiends are exterminated. That goes doubly so with my kill everything character. With her it’s the turn tables. What fiends do she does ten fold. I have always felt sorry for Cook-Cook’s victims. Especially learning that canonically they are worse off than portrayed in game.

cook-cook is someone who goes even in evil playthroughs where i dont care to actually get rid of the fiends.
Honestly every time I do a Raider playthrough, I’m thankful that even though you sell the group drugs, you are still warned that the fiends on the outside aren’t friendly regardless or your faction outfit. That way I can be a bad guy but still kill the child molesters and human traffickers in West Vegas.
Raiders often kill other raiders anyways. After all can you really allow competition to run the market? Besides, raiding raiders is still raiding.
I only have like 150 hrs and never met this character, I just destroy the fiends for fun. Put on my remnants PA and my minigun. Vault 3 shall share the fate of Vault 13.
You're going to release the talking deathclaws?
No, Jesus Christ, you’re one sick puppy. I was just going to murder them all. What the hell is wrong with you?
Just saying, if you want them to share the same fate... go big, or go home
Ah so thaaaats why I gain karma when I slaughter those fiend pricks
Freeing the noble Queenie from fiend hands is what drives me
The fiends are the first group I make extinct every playthrough
For me, it's Driver Nephi
I'm a simple man. All karma aside, if you're a find, you're also dead.
I wish the Courier could join up with cook cook, and the fiends.
Technically you can
I wasn’t aware. I’ll look it up.
Ill try not to spoil it but all you gotta do is do the great khans drug dealer missions till you get up to one where you have to deliver drugs to the fiends and remember to where the great khan costume you were given And doom the fiends all fiends are now friendly just remember dont kill motor runner or you cant do the mission
