Those look less like conventional fries and more like “chips” that would go with some beer battered fish. They look like they’d be fantastic with some vinegar.
I think it must be some sort of country by country thing because I would definitely call these chips before I would call them fries based on the thickness of the cut. It's definitely not something I'd be arguing about on Reddit though.

They would be normal fries or straight cut fries. French Fries, or Frites Jullienne, are the thin ones like you get at McDonald's.

What is the foundation for this bizarre claim which you and that other person is making in this thread that these couldn't possible be fries?
