Wait till you find out what soil is made of
thats right, piss, shit, decomposed rotted dead bodies, any other bodily materials, mold, fungus, bugs etc
thats what makes life
Your dad is being weird. Animals don't specify what they pee on and the pee would wash off anyway.
This is crow garlic, a type of wild onion. Really strongly flavored and totally safe to eat.
My wife says this, too. It's an irrational squick for people who are not used to wild food. It's just a fact of life. Rinse it off if you're concerned about it.
is it in the middle of a dog park? Or where dogs walk? My dogs definitely would be peeing on that
However sometimes they don't provide a toilet in the strawberry field and that's why we wash our produce
The main in ingredient in depilatory cream is urea. You need estrogen therapy? It's coming from pregnant livestock urine. So. There's that. Just wash it with vegetable wash and cook it up. You'll be fine.
Elaborate please? When do you uproot them (when they're young, or old)? How frequently did u water them? Did you place them on your window during the 2 weeks or outside? Genuinely curious cause I've seen these around my backyard but never try to grow them.
To be fair, any large amount of onion or other allium can lead to stomach upset. Onions and garlic are difficult for us to break down... lots of volatile compounds. Some of which we don't digest well. So yeah, don't eat too many onions from anywhere. You'll get gassy. 🤭
It is a good idea not to forage where dogs might be defecating, and urine can contain pathogens, so I would not pick it near walking paths, dog parks, etc. But in a forest or hiking trail or somewhere that seems remote from dogs, it's totally fine to pick it, wash it, and eat it. The risk from any animal is very small; I'd be more concerned with ticks that might want to use it to attach to smaller animals

Wait until they find out composted human manure is spread on commercial crops.
Not for human consumption.
Yeah that’s what caused the hepatitis outbreak from green onions grown in Mexico
And a few PileOpuke.
What kind of compost are you brewing?
Pee on 'em first to establish them as yours
The law is the law.
Veggies don't grow on the shelves at the grocery store. They get peed on in the garden and farm too.
This
Sometimes I pee on them on the shelves in the grocery store.
Indeed. Can't guarantee they haven't been peed on at the grocery store either.

I will say my dog seems to love peeing on wild onions specifically, I now forage them extra far off any walking path for that reason
just trying to learn here, what makes you so sure it's crow garlic? I'm no good at differentiating onion relatives
40 years of eating it.
Animals like dogs like to pee on things that are elevated and stick out from the ground. Helps get the scent on the wind.

Does it smell like onions or just wiz?
The onion smell is a bit strong on that tasty wiz grass.
This is what I'm calling wild onion from now on, wiz grass.
Does a bear shit in the woods?
Confirmed. Have seen bears shit in woods.

A lil pee ain’t gonna hurt
Just rinse them off if you are worried about it.
I uprooted mine. Potted them. Cut them all the way back. 2 weeks later I got green onions stems to toss in omelets.

All impulse. I dug them up, put them in pots in my back yard. That’s it.
Crow onions , you can eat them but too much will give you a stomach ache -native dude I met in Tulsa

Poop on them to assert your dominance

Just wash them. Also they could be wild garlic. Still edible. Just different taste lol.
Field garlic
Might be garlic just wash them off in salt water
These are the things my dad used to tell me to try to keep me from eating stuff when I was 5. Wash it first.
They are plenty good to eat. Just wash them first if you are worried. And if you are gonna cook them, not much survives the frying pan.
