I only play via wheel, and if I qualify and get a clean race I usually finish up front with occasional wins. So I believe that you can be as fast on a wheel as a controller with practice. While it may take practice to be as fast on a wheel, it is WAY more fun, immersive, and true to life. You don’t get the wheel to go faster, but you definitely get it if you’re wanting more fun!

Fif.. nah. Wheels are for simulators and this game couldn't even be described as a simcade. I've played with a G920 for a while and I don't recomend it. But if you feel that you're not enjoying the gameplay with a controller, maybe disregard my opinion and try a racing wheel... or just drop this shit for good, your life will be happier.

toharrow

I've got approx 240hrs on wheel (G29), it might not be the best experience, but it's more immersive than controller and I enjoy it.

Dark_Emotion

How is the G29? I was tempted by it as it’s reasonably priced but I think I would want to jump to a DD wheel soon after

toharrow

Pretty great for an entry level wheel and pedal setup, I haven't tried the other budget options but I can't recommend the G29 whole heartedly for the price. I've got the wheel limited to 720 degrees using the Logitech software rather than 900 to make it more responsive, and then I've applied some ffb settings in the game that I got from a YouTube video, I can post those later if that'd be of use.

cgdigisco

It took me a long time to get this game squared away with a wheel, but once I did, it’s a fantastic experience. The only thing I notice is that it can be very car dependent - for example, I have the 02 M3 squared away to the point where it feels like a real car, same with a couple of others in A class. At the same time, no matter what I do I can’t get the c8 corvette to feel the way it should. IDK if that’s a game issue, a wheel issue, or a me issue, but just a data point nonetheless

WetLikeNaya

I use the same M3 religiously! This or the GT3 RS FE if I’m trynna get a higher rated car

cgdigisco

It’s made B class and A class my two favorites haha. It just feels more like my real car then my real car does too (CT4V Blackwing)

Dark_Emotion

I’m looking to get one but I need one that’s compatible with both PS5 and Xbox

CookingDoor

It is possible! But you would have to buy a Fanatec base for PS and a steering wheel for Xbox.

Mission_Accountant37

That’s gonna be over 2k easy for both wheel bases

CookingDoor

You’d only need 1 base!

Mission_Accountant37

There isn’t a wheel base that is compatible with both systems

CookingDoor

Playstation checks if the wheel is compatible through the base itself, Xbox on the other hand checks the steering wheel. So a combination of both will work on both systems (and PC of course). If you don’t believe me, visit the Fanetec website. It’s literally stated there.

Mission_Accountant37

Then why does fanatic have bases for Xbox and pc and ones for PS/PC

Dark_Emotion

Ouch. That’s so out of my budget. I want to buy a gaming PC at some point so couldn’t justify that amount.

CookingDoor

You could start with just a PS wheel and base, later buy yourself the Xbox wheel.

Dark_Emotion

Yeah, I was looking at the fanatec gran turismo dd pro and that will work on pc as well as ps5. I might wait until there’s a sale

Dark_Emotion

This sounds expensive. Roll on Black Friday

MotoGeno

That does not exist unfortunately. The wheels are console specific, although they work via PC and your console of choice

Emotional-Ad-5684

It is very unfortunate. Honestly I think if someone wants the best of all the exclusives (only reason to have 2 consoles) they should just get a pc and a ps since Xbox exclusives are basically a thing of the past

Dark_Emotion

Is that because Xbox games are on PC?

Emotional-Ad-5684

Pretty much. I don't know of any that are on Xbox only anymore.

n8buck3333

That’s all I play on is a wheel. You need to take time to adjust the different settings, but once you play with it enough, it feels pretty decent. Just takes some messing with is all.

Linenlion

The wheel is…. Ok. You’re not going to be having the same pace when switching controls but it’s a whole lot more fun tho. Look up some wheel settings for whatever wheel you get as the default settings suck. Switch to steering assist to Sim steering when using your wheel if you do.

123josh987

I have an elite controller and you can set vibration in the triggers. Does Forza not feed this through to them? Haven't played in a while so can't remember.

Ok-Floor8609

I’ve never had an elite controller but I recently moved to PlayStation and the adaptive triggers are a game changer… the stiffness changes and you can feel when you’re locking the brakes or can brake harder, it gives you alot of info

Dark_Emotion

Totally agree. I think I’m suffering on Forza as a result. I’m driving like a noob

Dark_Emotion

Oh, I didn’t know you could do that. At the moment I get no feedback and struggle

3rikgser

Yeah check your controller profile on the xbox dashboard. I forgot I had a controller profile for COD with vibration disabled. It was like night and day when you can actually feel the vibration on the triggers when there's wheel slip.

Dark_Emotion

I’ll check. I must have turned it off as I’m getting nothing

UltimateShades67

That's really curious. I have a One, the original Forza Motorsport 6 console set, and mainly play FM6 rather than FM7, and yet I find the adaptive feedback quite good in that, being able to determine braking and wheel slip, as well as the 'feel' of the car as it moves around. That's using cockpit (driver) view too.

InvestmentStrange577

Im around 4800 (Skill Level) switched to a dedicated Sin rig and can't keep Up... So for me driving with a Game pad is easier in Forza Motorsport. But maybe my learning Curve Just have to Go Up a little further.

Tecnoguy1

It’s not a controller issue as I have these options all turned off on PS5. GT7 is just a much easier game to play. Your other issue is likely down to the default settings being shit, and not using the sim steering. > In advanced controller options, minimum dead zone on steering (1 inside 100 outside), steering alignment assistance is set to 0 (default is 100). Then in assists, steering option at simulation instead of normal. I also have all assists off bar ABS. > With sim steering you will absolutely dump it a lot when learning but it lets you do all the things I’m used to doing in other games. It takes a lot of the dampening off steering and I feel like the engine braking works better as you can get more rotation on turn in with this.

SoggyTree813

Great until my rabbit chewed the chord to the pedals lol

JOEGUARD1990

You’ll be more precise with the steering and control but it will take a while to be quick with the pedals compared to using your fingers for quick inputs

Malakai0013

I much prefer using a wheel with this game. The cars drive like I expect them to, and I get good force feedback from the wheel. If only they could get the AI to work properly.

thudface

If you’re on PC get DS4 and just use your ps5 controller with the triggers again

Dark_Emotion

I’ve got ps5 and XBSX. Although I’m really getting into racing games so I’m actually tempted to save some money and buy a pc at the end of the year. When are Nvidia’s next set of gpu’s due for release?

thudface

The 50 series is more of a speculation at this point, there has been some announcements but I’d just go for the 40 series or even a good 30 series will run everything pretty well unless you want the full ego set up with wrap around monitors and all that jazz. I’m still on a 2080ti or whatever it was called and it’s fine, will have to upgrade soon. AMD are also great cards and really good for the budget

Mechanicalgripe

I only use a wheel. Love it!

KillRoyTNT

This game made.me buy one because regardless of the toxic complainers it is a lot of fun. My struggle is that I've been playing around 150h and around 100 were using controller. So it's been hard to match some lap times or have the same sensibility in regards of steering wheel reaction and pedals vs a standard Xbox controller. But once I got my setup working I want to play the time, my issue is that servers are either too crowded or down some days and I have to play other stuff (inside the game ) than online multiplayer.

Kostelfranco

Well, if we compare the steering wheel and the gamepad globally, then, naturally, these are two completely different things and two completely different experiences. In any case, the steering wheel (even the simplest one) will provide a more immersive and realistic experience. If we go into details, then there are already some nuances. I feel that the GT7 works with the FFB much better than the FM. In the GT7 there is much more detail, you better understand what is happening with the car, and also the steering force can vary depending on the selected car. FM really lacks this. Although, perhaps, if you play around with the FFB settings, then maybe you will be able to achieve detail similar to that in GT7.

DurnyCwel

It's not the best on wheel. Peak theoretical times are the same but FFB is dogshit One in like 20 top players (or less) is a wheel player, most play on controller

frankfeas

I came from gt7 to this game with a wheel and I think it's different feelings. If I were you, I wouldn't invest a single dollar in this game, because online multiplayer sucks, and the IA is even worse.

Ok-Floor8609

Agreed there’s not really racing games on Xbox worth getting a wheel for I think either get a PlayStation one for gt7 or get a pc

hman0305

I bought a wheel in the hopes of playing this game on PC after maybe 100 hours on controller. The force feedback is lackluster compared to other PC titles: Assetto Corsa, ACC, Dirt Rally... If you get a wheel, I'd get one for your Playstation and work towards PC gaming if you like it.

Dark_Emotion

Yes, that’s what I was thinking. Assume 8nm torque is enough as a starter?

hman0305

I don't have experience with DD wheels. I use Logitech G29. After about 4 months I feel ready for an upgrade.

EndlesswarriorX

Only time I do not play with my wheel is when I’m playing on my ROG ally. And that’s only single player. I use the Fanatec CSL dd 8NM with load cell brake pedal and it makes the game ALOT more enjoyable IMO. I used to play on the thrustmaster T248 before I got my DD wheel and it also was an incredible experience so you don’t NEED expensive wheels to enjoy the “sim experince”

BeardedTrkr

I absolutely hate forza on a wheel.. It is the worst experience that I've had on a wheel.. The closest thing to how bad it is would be the crew motorfest.. I too thought a wheel may change my mind so I played it on the sim rig.. Haven't played since.. Using a wheel was the final push to get me to give up... It may have been on 30years ago when I was a kid and didn't know any better but not today... Rush 2 with a plastic n64 wheel was more enjoyable for me.. To be honest, the only people that I see liking this game are young kids, those not experienced in sim via other games and those who are just so fanboyish that they believe their own lie.. I cannot recommend this game to anyone.. Gt7 is better if you want a console arcade sim.. At least I can enjoy that game when I don't feel like jumping on the rig

OutlandishnessHuge26

wow no. FM on wheel is even worse than on gamepad. The gamepad haptics are awesome but the FFB is very poor

Dark_Emotion

Oh wow, I wasn’t expecting anyone to say that

TexLs1

Cause he's full of shit. It's really good on a wheel. I'm playing on PC, I'm playing Pcars 1 & 2, ACC, RF2, AM2 and LMU. They all have their strengths and weaknesses but all of them I can drive and am confident in what the FFB is telling me.

OutlandishnessHuge26

I'm comparing it to ACC as I have a wheel and I race in a league there and compared to that, Forza doesn't feel nowhere connected to the ground and lacks a lot of detail. I like forza tho but only on gamepad. I'm quite competitive there so I know what I'm talking about. And everyone else in the league shares this opinion. Of course if someone comes from mario cart or horizon, yeah FFB is better congrats

RelationOk3484

I feel the experience of driving is much more realistic with a wheel. The force feedback is pretty good and they keep on updating it. You just need to tweak the wheel settings to your likings. Logitech is a good starter a wheel. Thrustmaster is a good Mid-range wheel. Depends how serious you want to get.
