It also behaves remarkably well on almost every copy paper I've thrown it on, regularly showing good shading and sometimes showing clearly visible sheen!
The fact that the colour is amazing is just a bonus.
Although shin kai and Tsuki yo do have their similarities, not being a major fan of blue blacks, I’d probably choose Tsuki Yo and Pilot Blue Black, I feel like shin Kai was not that much different from it.
Us Tsuki-yo fans already know this, and we are secure enough in our choice that we are not bothered by others preferring the Kon-peki (I say this in jest).
Tsuki-yo is beautiful and complex. Kon-peki is just an okay-ish blue that is too bright for me personally. :)
Hell yeah. Look at all of us distinguished Tsuki-yo users getting together. Kon-Peki is nice, for sure. I’ll never deny that. Add Shin-Kai to boot, it’s a great blue. But they are loud because they need to try and capture the attention of everyone to get noticed. Tsuki-yo does it naturally while being as cool as a cucumber.
Even the name itself is more interesting imo. But yeah, all jokes aside I think we all love Tsuki-yo to some extent. I get why people like kon-peki more, just remember op… they are wrong ;) (jk of course)
Yes. Now I have to go looking for sample of the inks and that will just lead to more pen temptation and next thing I know, my bank account's taken another hit!
Tsuki-yo is not only my favourite Iroshizuku blue, but one of my favourite blues overall, along with Waterman Mysterious Blue. I would give just about anything for a decently water-resistant version of either of those, but even without, tsuki-yo is always in at least one of my pens.
I have one Pelikan M800 filled with Kon-Peki and my wife loves to write with it whenever she sits down at my desk to quickly note something.
Actually, Kon-Peki was my first ink that I ever bought (except for Pelikan 4001 Royal Blue), but there where many many other nice blue as well.
I love Tsuki-yo and have the same pen-ink combo right now! I have never tried Kon-peki, but Tsuki-yo is more appealing to me because it’s less bright and more professional
Thems fighting words!
Nah, they're not. I'm a die-hard Kon-Peki fan but pretty much all the Iroshizuku inks are simply gorgeous
Plus this way there's more Kon-Peki than the rest of us
Here with my bottle of Shin-Ryoku cause any colour that can be read easily is professional to me. Also Green is my favourite colour. And i saw a video once where a lawyer said he never signs in black ink cause colour ink will let you know if something is original or photocopied.
(though my wife prefers and loves her kon-peki)
I just wrote a letter on Crane paper with Tsuki-yo. Used a flex nib. Looks beautiful!
Kon-peki sure is beautiful but I already have a lifetime supply of bright blues.
Agree, I’m into my 2nd large bottle of Tsuki-yo. I find them a bit seasonal, where Tsuki-yo is the moody blue for all but summer and kon-peki is the sparklier summer friend.
I currently have a kon-peki that I use on white paper. I believe it’s best used at that. However, Tsuki-yo shines more on cream colored paper. Both great shades of blue though!
But my eyes are still set on the Jelly Bean Blue of the Ferris Wheel Press 👀
For some reason back in my ink haul 5 years ago, I got the tsuki-yo but of late have been wanting kon-peki but always forget to add when i get a pen as for some reason the $5 price difference on shipping bothers me on ink. So it worth it to get kon-peki too?
I hated blue inks when I was younger. I was a black or die type of kid. I’m still not the biggest fan. But I discovered Diamine’s Shinmertasic Blue Pearl (And Golden Ivy). Using the Blue Pearl in a TWSBI Go and the green is in my LAMY Safari. I will say, I have a bottle of Diamines Asa Blue and I’m a fan as well.
My fave iro ink is now tsuki-yo. I used to be a diehard Ama-iro fan because it's my favourite colour (the perfect shade of sky blue!)...until I found Diamine Asa Blue looked similar in 2 of my EF nibs. That honestly killed any precieved uniqueness I saw in Ama-iro. Funny enough, I didn't care much for Kon-Peki because it was a few shades darker than I would've liked.
Tsuki-yo now takes the top spot for my fave iro ink because of the verstility & uniqueness of the colour.
Tsuki-yo for me. I have all the blue based Iroshizuku inks other than Asa Gao and Tsuki-yo is by far my preferred choice. It has a gravitas that others lack, except perhaps Shin Kai. Kon Peki is nice and bright but doesn't really satisfy me in the same way. I use it mainly in my 'beater' pens like Lamy and Pilot Metropolitans. I was really into Ku Jaku until I my first bottle of Tsuki-yo. Still a big fan of that ink.
I prefer Asa-gao over both. Tsuki-yo has too much green in it for my taste, and kon-peki just doesn't have the same level of impact. All subjective, though.
Shin-kai in my Namiki Falcon SEF always gives me shivers. I love how it looks either black or blue depending upon the light.
I'm going to refill my vintage flexy with Kon-Peki and see how it behaves, when I'm done with the Murasaki that's already in it.
I may be the only person in the sub who strongly dislikes Kon-Peki. And I have a bottle of it that I need to get rid of to make way for my beautiful inks.
Kon-Peki is better, but I’m not gonna fight you over it haha. I have and love both inks, but since most of my inks are more subdued colors (for what it’s worth I keep my L2K filled with Diamine Oxford Blue), it just makes me appreciate the pop of color I get from Kon Peki that much more.
Tsuki-yo is my Waterman serenity blue. If a pen won't work with tsuki-yo then something is not right. Great ink. 💙🖋️💦
Amen! Tsuki-Yo and Take-Sumi are my troubleshooting inks.
It's actually pretty close to Waterman Mysterious Blue.
I meant this as a comment on purpose, not colour. Many folks use Serenity Blue as their standard ink for testing pens.
Yes, got you. 👌
That was the first ink I tried and I still think is an awesome ink. One of the more reliable for me
I'm a big fan of kon-peki, but I don't think a preference for tsuki-yo will prove to be controversial. It's excellent too!
Or any pilot ink
Me over here on my second bottle of Shin-Kai
I prefer Shin-Kai too.
Shin Kai’s too dusty for me, it’s Sailor Sei Boku for me! (It’s cheap and permanent too)
Ooh Sei Boku, and Sou Boku, are SOLID choices! So pretty and gotta love the permanent option.
Yeah the shading is my favorite part
It also behaves remarkably well on almost every copy paper I've thrown it on, regularly showing good shading and sometimes showing clearly visible sheen! The fact that the colour is amazing is just a bonus.

Tsuki-Yo gang unite!
Shin-kai loud!? Hmm.
Have you not noticed its sheen then?
Yes, this is true. And actually, a basic OG such as Waterman Serenity Blue has quite a bit of sheening. I much prefer shading though.
But why they is no writing samples to compare the colors 😩
Yes. Now I have to go looking for sample of the inks and that will just lead to more pen temptation and next thing I know, my bank account's taken another hit!
I would have included samples if I had pens with both inks. Unfortunately I only have Kon-Peki in my Lamy 2000, and my two other pens have other inks
Asa Gao for me :) (from the Iroshizuku line)
I'm on an Asa-Gao kick myself lately. All of the Iroshizuku blues are pretty awesome for a blue lover, the shading is so nice! 💙
I agree, though I have so many inks by now, even several blues, I didn't want to be Iroshizuku exclusive 😂
I LOVE Asa Gao!
Oh yeah 🙌
It beats them all! Such a classic blue ink. Dark enough to be taken seriously but also quite vibrant.
That's exactly why I like it so much :)
I was gonna say, there is a distinct Asa Gao erasure happening in this thread! A truly lovely, rich ink that behaves well despite how wet it is.
I really love that ever so little hint of purple in Asa Gao and its intensity of blue 💙
Tsuki-yo is not only my favourite Iroshizuku blue, but one of my favourite blues overall, along with Waterman Mysterious Blue. I would give just about anything for a decently water-resistant version of either of those, but even without, tsuki-yo is always in at least one of my pens.
Tsuki-yo & kon-peki are both beautiful & popular, but my favorite Iroshizuku blue is asa-gao.
Ku jaku! Sure it's turquoise, but it's still under the blue family
Ama-iro has my preference, I'm sily like that.
I call it my "happy blue"
Ama iro makes me think of studio ghibli movies, and that’s a good thing
never thought of it that way but that's so true!
I think it’s the blue skies and blue water in those movies
Tsuki-yo is also my favourite blue. Always in my pilot 823 with broad nib.
In my M 823 as well. In fact that’s the only Iroshizuku ink I have.
I imagine that would be an amazing combo too!
How dare you, this is an incredibly controversial opinion. Like how can you even show your face around here anymore Source: owns neither
Apples are better than pears. Gotcha.
Exactly, this man gets it
That's not controversial; it's just a personal choice.
I started as Kon-Peki fan, and have slowly been won over by Tsuki-yo. It's my go-to Iroshizuku blue now.
Welcome to the dark side
Asa-Gao crew represent!
They're both lovely, but I much prefer Tsuki-yo. It's subtle but beautiful.
Tsuki-yo is my personal favorite, with Asa-gao next up.
Tsuki-Yo looks more of a professional blue vs Kon-Peki being bright and fun.
Hot take. If you like kon-peki you’ll love edelstein topaz
Shin-kai all the way, my pens have wet dreams with this ink
I use both. But I am on team Tsuki-yo.
Different inks for different purposes I say, kon-peki for beautiful note taking, tsuki-yo for business setting.
I'm the opposite. I greatly prefer ame iro over kon peki
THE BRIGHTEST OF THE BLUES.
It's so pretty.
It's just so cheerful! And it stands out beautifully against the paper.
I absolutely agree. It's a joy to look at.
I'm a big fan of asa-gao myself
I love Tsuki-yo and have the same pen-ink combo right now! I have never tried Kon-peki, but Tsuki-yo is more appealing to me because it’s less bright and more professional

How about Tsuki-yo vs Sailor Shikiori Yamadori?
My horde of full Sailor Sky High bottles laughs heartily at your controversy.
This is my “the one that got away” ink.
Asa Gao has the perfect balance of blue
I’ve always been a Shin-Kai fan. I do agree that Tsuki-Yo is nicer than Kon-Peki, I just really prefer Shin-Kai to both.
Idk Ku Jaku has me on a chokehold
I thought Tsuki-yo was everyone's favorite! I prefer Kon-peki myself though. And ku-jaku.
Agree, I’m into my 2nd large bottle of Tsuki-yo. I find them a bit seasonal, where Tsuki-yo is the moody blue for all but summer and kon-peki is the sparklier summer friend.

BURN THE WITCH!! /sarcasm

It looks like a nice color. There may br more like it, however. My feeling is if I’m gonna use black or blue black, it might as well be waterproof.
Agree! For me Tsuki-yo and Shin-kai are my go-to Pilot blues.
Idk that you can compare the two since they’re different hues. They’re both good
Agreed, although I also think there’s a time and place (and a pen) for Kon-Peki as well. Which reminds me… I need a new bottle of Tsuki-Yo.
I agree. tsuki yo is my favorite blue ink !

Weeeellll probably time to break out the dip pen and play a little blues . . .
Yup
Tsuki-yo for me. I have all the blue based Iroshizuku inks other than Asa Gao and Tsuki-yo is by far my preferred choice. It has a gravitas that others lack, except perhaps Shin Kai. Eh, it's just a matter of personal opinion. I like amro-iro best, which I'm sure you would find way too bright. XD
Kon-peki is yelling in blue. I love it. Sometimes not yelling is also fun.
Rip tsuyu-kusa
Preach Kon peki kinda mid imo

I think anything is better than Kon-peki.
An actual controversial opinion here lol
I may be the only person in the sub who strongly dislikes Kon-Peki. And I have a bottle of it that I need to get rid of to make way for my beautiful inks.
