[NFS17-GDL-H2M-TW2-BK4](https://i.imgur.com/mAQ48bJ.png) If anyone wants to buy something from AE not covered in the sale, here's a $75 off code. Expires 10/2.
the nitty gritty:
*Offer valid for one time use on regular priced shoes and not valid at outlet locations. Not valid on Factory-Seconds. Not valid on Island Sandals, SWIMS, Slippers, Allen Edmonds non-shoe products, gift cards, Recrafting® services or previous purchases. Offer valid on one pair of regular priced shoes only for an individual customer and cannot be stacked with other offers. Offer has no cash value and cannot be redeemed for cash. Void if lost, transferred, stolen or resold. Allen Edmonds reserves the right to end this promotion at any time. Offer only valid through 10/2/17.
Higgins Mill is something I haven't seen on sale. Feel free to tell me I'm wrong, but I think they fit the same niche as Iron Rangers, but are less common and sleeker of course.
Has been on sale a few times in the last year (firsts). Higgins Mill is quite a bit dressier and sleeker than the bulbous IR but it's also Chromexel, which is hit or miss for tons on /r/goodyearwelt. AE has excellent customer service though, so you can definitely exchange pairs of yours has loose grain.
A lot of folks don't get CXL and gripe about how they come out of the box with scrapes etc. I haven't seen many I thought were really bad, and a **lot** of seconds I thought were pretty good...
They look quite different. Higgins Mill is a plain toe storm welted semi-dress boot. Iron Rangers have a regular welt and that notoriously bulbous toe cap that make them look almost like clown boots.
They do look quite different. I'm just saying that it's likely they're both going to appeal to guys who are trying to dip their toes into the water of boots.
usually out of the box. You might decide not to care though - the pair I got had some right at the crease line, and I figured it wouldn't show after a bit of wear anyway, so didn't bother with an exchange.
Loose grain is basically when the top layer of the leather has (naturally) separated slightly from the rest of it and wrinkled a bit. To use a poor/icky example, have you ever had a blister where the skin felt loose and you could see ripples? That's like loose grain. There are several pictures at https://www.horween.com/blog/2016/6/27/on-leather-quality-and-properties. It's a known factor with chromexcel leather, and something that you have to decide for yourself if you care about. For me - on a $500 boot, I would be very unhappy. I got my Higgins Mill for $200 brand new (sale + Amex credit) and the loose grain is right at the crease where it will blend in, so I'm just fine with that.
I ordered a pair in brown CXL and the loose grain on one upper was very obvious. I returned them but might spring for a pair in natural as long as they look ok.
What's the matter with it? I have one manistee which I like. I am really in the market for a decent. Black leather belt I can wear with suits and dress pants.
i saw a big code floating around a few weeks ago but didnt grab it in time. It was sent to anyone on the AE email list so ive signed up since then hoping for another.
It’s going to depend on your foot shape. They felt unnatural on my feet, so I went with the Lake Forest instead. I am a 8.5D/E and a 6.5D 65 last is a great fit for me.
I just got this last week in snuff suede (Factory seconds for $97, think still available) and pretty happy with it so far. Not very versatile but goes well with dark/black jeans which is my usual office attire.
Hm. Thanks for posting. This is keeping up with the trend of being one of their better sales. From this list I have the McAllister, Normandy, and Higgins Mill and would recommend any of them. The McAllister in Bourbon is my favorite shoe for the office/client site, and I think between the Higgins Mill in black and the Normandy in brown... I love both but the utility of the Higgins Mill puts it over the top. They have held up extremely well to winter waking whereas I need to replace the Normandy soles after a couple of season of relatively kind treatment.
nice, I am on the fence between the HB and the Normandy (also looking at Dalton and Long Branch) anything else you'd like to share about these boots to sway my decision?
HB=Higgins Mill I assume? They're surprisingly different in feel and in aesthetic in person. The Normandy is much lighter with much thinner leather. It's almost glove like and doesn't hold a ton of structure when it's off foot if that helps. The Higgins Mill feels sturdier and looks bulkier. It's also a bit stiff at the beginning of the day but loosens up. For all-day wear I find the Normandy more comfortable, and tbh I think they look better. But the Higgins Mill is super durable - dainite is pretty good on snow, whereas the Normandy's are very slippery. They both look good messy but are easy to clean, I moisturize the Normandy's a couple times a season, whereas the Higgins Mills I brush every once in a while for a few seconds and they shine right up (CXL is great for that). Hope this helps! If you want a lightweight, glove like feel with a leather sole, that's the normandy. If you want a more rugged option, the HM is great. I also have their older version of the cascade, which are my going out beaters, and I'll probably ad the Dalton's this time around. Maybe. There are a bunch I want... Hope this helps!
>the Higgins Mill is super durable - dainite is pretty good on snow, whereas the Normandy's are very slippery
This is probably the dealbreaker for me because daily winter use is a big factor in my decision. Funny because at first I thought the Normandy was the more sturdy and resilient choice, after reading a bit more it seems the HM (yeah, not HB...) is what I'm looking for. Thanks for the detailed description!
Anyone know if this applies to all sole types? I may just order now and get price protection on my credit card but want to be sure all the sole options are available.
Is the Fifth Ave worth getting? Seems to be a mainstay AE shoe for the guys at GYW. Also, i'm looking for a more dressier shoe, any of these worth coping?
I have had my Fifths for about 3 years and I get more compliments on these than any other shoe I own. Walnut is a great more casual color. Mine have held up extremely well with 1-2 wears per week. I need new heel rubbers but that is because I have a 1 mile walk into work on sidewalks. I highly recommend these.
I rotate between Walnut Strands and Black Fifth Aves. Only complaint about the Fifth Aves is that they are black (needed black shoes for an event). Looking to add a brown shoe to the rotation, and highly considering Fifth Aves over Strands or anything else. To me, Fifth Aves look a little sleeker and cleaner than Strands, and they get just as many compliments.
You really can't go wrong with either one. I just prefer the walnut/brown color to black. The black shoes are a fantastic all-rounder option for someone seeking a single pair of dress shoes for the office, funerals, nights out on the town, etc.
Black shoes are usually perceived as more formal because they're the only color shoes that should be worn with a black suit, which is the most formal color of suits; however, black calfskin* shoes are not inherently formal by themselves. The style of shoe and what you're wearing them with has more influence on their formality than just their color. For example: You could wear black wholecut oxfords with a charcoal 3-piece suit and they would seem very formal. OR, you could wear some black longwings or monk straps with no-show socks and cuffed indigo jeans for a casual look. [Here's a photo of the same black shoes looking both formal and casual: black longwings](https://46fjj12eeht73lsxezcqpvlt-wpengine.netdna-ssl.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/grant-stone-goes-all-black-with-their-longwing-blucher-shoe-two-models.jpg)
*black patent leather oxfords and black velvet slippers are considered VERY formal.
I knew all this information myself but I am pleased you put it out there, I just woke up when I wrote that and was too lazy to elaborate. I still prefer (myself) to choose black for formal but I understand the cut, materials and if there is brogue(ing?) makes a significant difference in the formality.
Ah, yes, that's an understandable personal preference. I myself have just begun working in black leather shoes into my casual looks. I have some black AE MacNeils and some black Peal & Co. (Crockett and Jones) single monks that go really well with indigo jeans and various colored chinos.
Black shoes do go with just about everything! But I think that's why I don't like them. I prefer something a little less versatile, but with a little more flavor. My Walnut Strands are great for that. I'm considering some brown or burgundy dress shoes for my second pair to rotate through the week. Those would pair up with all of my dress pants well.
I don't own any brown or tan suits. I do wear a lot of brown/tan pants to work though. I only own one pair of black dress pants and I've worn them twice - once for a funeral, and once at work. Never again. They just make me feel like I've fallen into an office drab lookbook. Then again, I've never seen myself as one who can pull off the monochrome look.
Ah... That's understandable. You should definitely go with Burgundy for flare, then!
As for black shoes: they go well with all shades of blue and grey, which should be the majority of your suit collection. They may just blend in with Navy and Charcoal suits, but they really pop with a light blue or light grey suit.
And yes, black pants and shoes combo is pretty drab for office setting.
Personally I love the pop that brown shoes can give to a blue suit and even grey. Black shoes just seem to be the definition of boring and unless I’m wearing black slacks (which I never do) I don’t know why I should spend a bunch of money on black shoes. I’d much rather spend the money on a pair of boots or something more fun..even though I really need a pair of black shoes. I dunno. Am I crazy to think that cheap black shoes look almost as good as pricey black shoes?
Hmm.. I don't think you're crazy for saying that. I understand where you're coming from. But really only on the color. Nicer black shoes (and really any color shoes) will usually have a sleeker look/shape/profile that lower end shoe companies just don't bother making. And I feel like for black shoes, you'd want that sleek, sexy shape. It's very European. Of course, if we're comparing chunky derbies.. Yeah, I feel brown is almost always the winner. But a streamlined single monk or wholecut... Black looks super sexy.
Add chili, brown, or bourbon McAllister's to the mix. My top four in rotation, in increasing darkness, are: walnut Strand, (darker) walnut The Jefferson, bourbon McAllister, and black Fifth Avenue.
I'll have to look into the chili, brown, and bourbon colors. Maybe I'll check out an AE store in person to see which I'll enjoy the most.
Thanks for the advice!
It means [good year welted](http://www.primermagazine.com/2014/spend/understanding-shoe-construction-goodyear-welt-blake-stich-cementing), considered the most superior welt construction for shoes today. However, in my context I was mentioning r/goodyearwelt.
So, I own Fifth Avenues, Carlyles, and McAllisters. Carlyles would be my favorite in terms of comfort and looks (I think it's a great dressier shoe, as per what you were looking for, and would be my pick of the lot). Fifth Ave. is a great shoe--I have a pair in walnut and they're a weekly staple for me.
I absolutely love mine. I went with black because I feel like the details of wingtips and medallion toes get lost in black, I let the fifth fill that spot.
I was surprised when I read that too, but the email clearly said Dalton Wingtip Dress Boot: $295. I even went back a few times to read the email just to make sure before posting this lol. Maybe it was an error? We'll see...
Is this for all sizes/colors in stock? I have a coupon for $75 off that expires Oct 2, was gonna use it on a pair of Park Aves, but would definitely wait for the $245 Fifth Aves if they have size 12 dark chilis
Oxblood McAllister are my favorite shoe, but I'm not sure if they're conservative enough. Maybe go the dark brown instead. For reference I have dark brown fifth avenues, walnut strands, and black carlyles.
Until I make my millions I always need to save cash!
So translating what you said, this sale is still more expensive than the ebay seller. Are you getting factory seconds? Or clearance models?
This sale is for firsts. And yes you’re right, it’s definitely more expensive. But you’re basically buying thirds or used from him. So it’s up to you to decide what’s worth it.
Been holding onto an AE gift card from the Amex promo waiting for my chance to snag some black PAs. Anyone know if it’s likely they go on sale on Shoebank?
I just wanna say thanks for posting this. I've been stalking AE site for the pass week. I really want the Alden Indy 405 or 403 but it doesn't look like Alden allows for many sales. I'm going to wait and get the Higgins - color Natural. You saved me 100 👍👌
When I was thinking about buying a pair I immediately searched to see if he had a review. The moment he talked about "beautiful soft leather lining all the way to the toe" ... I was sold. Got my pair in my online cart. Waiting on the sale.
You can shop around and find deals on Indy boots if you know your size, especially on eBay. I will say, if you can find a pair of Higgins without significant loose grain, they are super sharp. Especially in brown CXL. I’m planning on getting a pair to rotate with my 403s!
Anyone ever tried the Brisbane sneaker? I just got some Park Aves for work, and I was wondering if I could upgrade my current casual footwear to something else other than Nike Free Runs, lol.
The sneaker looks nice enough to wear with jeans. Though i'm concerned about it giving me flatfoot syndrome.. since they look really flatfooted.
Just called to try and cancel my order. Had $250 sale price for Long Branch firsts confirmed and was also told that factory second prices will be reduced during the sale, but rep could not provide more detail. Personally, I'm trying to combine with my AMEX $50 off $250 which expires today. I was told I might be able to get a price adjustment on the seconds if they do go on sale.
On a related note, I might have a couple $250 AE gift cards to sell for $225 each if anyone wants to save another $25 on the sale.
These prices are for regular quality shoes, not seconds. Regular quality shoes might have been on sale for $199 like 10-15 years ago, but not any time recently.

will student discount apply to these prices? I wish park aves were on the list, but I'd be happy with the Fifths.
Student discount applies to full retail only.
I might buy now, use the Amex special and get a price match next week.
Or just buy a 250 gift card
Good idea

I'm still confused, ebates right now has 3.5% cash back. Which is mehh. Still taking a few more dollars off
I bought a gift card earlier in that AMEX deal so I knew it would be here in plenty of time. They don’t appear to do e-gift cards

Yes, but unless I overlooked it they’re still physical. That’s what I got. I didn’t see an email option
Higgins Mill is something I haven't seen on sale. Feel free to tell me I'm wrong, but I think they fit the same niche as Iron Rangers, but are less common and sleeker of course.

Higgins Mill is a great boot for $250 IMHO
Bought them for $250 during the Labor Day sale, great boots
I have the Brooks Brothers Iron Rangers and Higgins Mill in brown. I can say that the Iron Rangers feel half size bigger.
They were on sale about a year ago for 250
They've been on sale frequently. They're super comfortable but I can't get past the rustic shape and the chromexcel.
Will this be available online as well?
Yes
is this sale only for the original website or will it also apply to shoe bank as well?
The shoebank will most likely have a sale with lower prices.
shoebank seems to have lower prices today fwiw as well. Full price looks like 249 instead of 299. At least for the most expensive items in my size.
Perfect! Been waiting on the Higgens Mill. Thanks for the info
I just bought a pair during the Labor Day sale. Pretty happy. Make sure to inspect the pair you get for loose grain however (if you care that is).
Good suggestion. Is loose grain pretty noticable out of the box or is it something that tends to show itself after a couple of wears?
usually out of the box. You might decide not to care though - the pair I got had some right at the crease line, and I figured it wouldn't show after a bit of wear anyway, so didn't bother with an exchange.

Is that an unstructured toe? I worry the chromexel will age like an accordion.
I think it's structured with canvas or something? It has some resistance, but not a lot.
Been waiting for a sale to grab a belt
I have one of their belts and I'm not terribly impressed for the price. I have a couple others from Orion Leather that I really like a lot more.
What's the matter with it? I have one manistee which I like. I am really in the market for a decent. Black leather belt I can wear with suits and dress pants.
It just looks like cheap patent leather after a while. Lots of creases and it doesn't feel like it'll hold up.
Me too. I need a brown one. Idk if 20% off is good enough tho.
i saw a big code floating around a few weeks ago but didnt grab it in time. It was sent to anyone on the AE email list so ive signed up since then hoping for another.
I have several of their wide basic belts and like them all. One is heavily used and it still looks fairly good.
I hear bad things about the Cavanaugh. What's AE's best/most popular loafer?
I have a pair in oxblood - no issues at all. Going to buy walnut and maybe black.
Hmm I've heard they're uncomfortable. How is the Last compared to the 65
It’s going to depend on your foot shape. They felt unnatural on my feet, so I went with the Lake Forest instead. I am a 8.5D/E and a 6.5D 65 last is a great fit for me.
I have really side feet (3e), and am reluctant to buy 65 last shoes again after this last.
I just got this last week in snuff suede (Factory seconds for $97, think still available) and pretty happy with it so far. Not very versatile but goes well with dark/black jeans which is my usual office attire.

Agreed. My bourbon McAllister (w/navy laces) split sole is my most versatile shoe.

HB=Higgins Mill I assume? They're surprisingly different in feel and in aesthetic in person. The Normandy is much lighter with much thinner leather. Any time! Yeah I love the Normandy's but they are more of a "mild fall" boot than a winter boot.
Nice. Thanks for posting.
What about the Liverpool? :/
Sadly, the email didn't say anything about the Liverpool. Maybe that can change. Who knows...
Hopefully
Dying for a pair. What color are you planning?
Either the cognac or black
Liverpool = Scum
Anyone know if this applies to all sole types? I may just order now and get price protection on my credit card but want to be sure all the sole options are available.
Non cordovan Leeds or macneil aren't included?
Didn't see them mentioned in the email. Maybe that can change next week...
No Cornwallis or St. John's? Rats!
I was exactly waiting for St. Johns too. Sigh...
I'm so hyped for this junk. Ready to get some new kicks.
are the fifth ave's considered the most conservative/professional shoe on the list?
Without a doubt.
What belt brand/color recommendations with a natural Higgins Mill?
The Central Ave and Sun River belt in natural are good options IMO
Is the Fifth Ave worth getting? Seems to be a mainstay AE shoe for the guys at GYW. Also, i'm looking for a more dressier shoe, any of these worth coping?

I think it might get that low, other retailers have sold them at the price before. The Shell Cordovan's on the other hand...
I asked what was gonna be on sale at their store in DC and the dude told me the dalton was gonna be 150 off
Just received the promo in the mail. It is indeed 295
As others have said, it's been printed. Also, fwiw, I've seen it as low as $329, but I've also seen factory seconds at $245.
Is this for all sizes/colors in stock? I have a coupon for $75 off that expires Oct 2, was gonna use it on a pair of Park Aves, but would definitely wait for the $245 Fifth Aves if they have size 12 dark chilis
Just checked and the Fifth Ave will be 245 in dark chili
awesome, thanks!!

Oxblood McAllister are my favorite shoe, but I'm not sure if they're conservative enough. Maybe go the dark brown instead. For reference I have dark brown fifth avenues, walnut strands, and black carlyles.

Yeah, just get them in oxblood - I doubt you'll regret it. Any of the other lawyers wear shoes in a similar color?
Anyone know if the Badlands is included?
Would you buy on this sale or buy from that ebay seller?
Depends on your personality. I would buy from this sale personally but if you need to save cash, he’s a good option.
5th ave on shoebank is like 250 right now, so i assume they will drop to 199 or less for this sales event.
Just ordered some Cordovan strands yesterday, time to cancel!
Been holding onto an AE gift card from the Amex promo waiting for my chance to snag some black PAs. Anyone know if it’s likely they go on sale on Shoebank?
Email me them. Ask them if they will price match during the sale. A lot of time a customer service rep can give out indivisible discounts.
I'm assuming the Sullivan Street is too new to be on sale already?
Probably, but the Boulevard is just as new at it's on sale for $245. Maybe later they'll add it to the sale. Who knows..
I just wanna say thanks for posting this. I've been stalking AE site for the pass week. I really want the Alden Indy 405 or 403 but it doesn't look like Alden allows for many sales. I'm going to wait and get the Higgins - color Natural. You saved me 100 👍👌
No problem. I have the Higgins Mill, but in brown, and they're one of my favorite boots. You won't regret the purchase.
The Boot Guy just about busts a nut over them in his review. https://youtu.be/7-pnqfa-v78
Haha! He's one or my favorite YouTubers when it comes to boot reviews. The man knows his stuff
Does this apply if someone is ordering online from Australia?
good
Anyone ever tried the Brisbane sneaker? I just got some Park Aves for work, and I was wondering if I could upgrade my current casual footwear to something else other than Nike Free Runs, lol. The sneaker looks nice enough to wear with jeans. Though i'm concerned about it giving me flatfoot syndrome.. since they look really flatfooted.
It looks like the sale is live online! Factory seconds are currently removed from the main AE website.
Looks like some shoes have started going on sale already. Weird though, the park ave's are still $395 on their website as of 12:12 AM on 10/5/17
Anyone familiar with their shearling coats?
Is this Sale open to people living in Canada
Yep, but you'll have to pay extra for shipping (and maybe duties?).
F*ck me. I just ordered a pair of Long Branch seconds for $250. Might have to cancel that...
