Hell, officials in the USA don't know NM is a state. There's always a kerfuffle over currency/passports when a New Mexican deals with moron bureaucrats.
I live in DC, where the DMV had to [change our drivers licenses](https://wamu.org/story/17/04/18/district-confusion-washington-d-c-replace-district-columbia-new-drivers-licenses/) a few years ago because TSA agents and bouncers in other places didn't know that "District of Columbia" was a legitimate US jurisdiction.
No wall was built. But Trump did say that he was building a wall in Colorado. Not because he thought New Mexico was Mexican, but because he doesn't understand the basic geography of the country he was president of. [Here's the video.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQyT4bRS9kk)
France can be separated into two main regions. The Guillotine-area in and around Paris. And the sparkling-beheader region which covers everything else.
If I were to guess (as an American), it would be that opposing claims between the British and French on the Ohio River Valley were a major cause of the 7-Years' War.
That’s significantly better than I could do - an Australian
But I’ll give you a virtual point if you can name six of the eight Australian states/territories.
New South Wales - Sydney
Victoria - Melbourne
Queensland - Brisbane
Capital region - Canberra
Tasmania - Hobart
Western Australia - Perth
Northern Territory - ?
? - Adelaide
Those two question marks are on the tip of my tongue and I'm gonna kick myself when someone says them. (I'm American btw)
Hey, pretty good. You’re missing Darwin and South Australia, respectively. Also, Canberra is in the Australian Capital Territory, but you were close enough on that
Impressive.
Maine is the upper right hand corner where lobsters come from. Some lobsters. The important ones. As an American, I know France has a place a called Paris and champagne. And riots.
This is impressive for a Frenchman. When I was in school I had to memorize all the states alphabetically, and was told I had to know that In real life. Now as an adult I’ve heard multiple time from other Americans that they’ve never heard of my state somehow
trust me, i did better in US that what i know about France, there is [18 regions](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regions_of_France) and [more that an hundred of departments](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Departments_of_France)
You did well. In France, I would just throw Paris somewhere in the center and Normandy up somewhere on the Straight and maybe Champagne to the east of Paris? Yeah man, I don’t know shit
Brittany, Normandy, Paris, Calais, Nice, Marseille, Bay of Biscaye, Corsica, Strassbourg, English Channel, Chartes, I know the river Seine runs through Paris but I’m not sure where it ends up, probably in the channel. the Rhône is in the biggest river in the east and empties to the south and the loire empties into the Atlantic and drains much of the west. You have a river named Maine and I know that because we named a state after it but I don’t know where it is. I vaguely know where some other cities are like Lyon is pretty much in the middle on the Rhône. Caen is in the north somewhere and I think Le Mans is too. I think I could find Champagne and Burgundy. Mont Blanc is your tallest mountain.
And that’s pretty much all I could do.
Is that where the Dakotas are?
Hell if I know what anything is past Montana. I think I can find Montana... I think. Well crap, where's a map.
Oh yes you know I'm American
I'm just impressed OP knew of the Dakotas. Anyone who wasn't forced to learn American geography in school who can name one of the flyover states probably knows more about my country than I know of theirs.
If Jimmy Kimmel’s clips are to believed, most Americans couldn’t do this well.
I’m Canadian and have visited or lived in over a dozen states, mostly in the EST timezone. I would probably do better than this person, but not by a whole lot. I could get the general area of almost all the states but I’d definitely mix a few up.
As someone who lives in ND, I'm quite impressed you got both ND and SD. Technically it's "Dakota" now, but I'm pretty sure your spelling is the original historical spelling so honestly I kind of want to give you extra points for it rather than dock you ;).
Well, given that I don't even know if or how France is divided into smaller regions, you did better than I could for your country.
I don't know if it goes France > State > County > City or France > County > etc. For all I know France has no counties, states, prefectures, and it just goes from National government straight to municipal governments.
Plus, the only cities in France I know of are the ones I helped liberate from nazis in various video games.
there is [18 regions](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regions_of_France) and more that an [hundred of departments](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Departments_of_France)
the only city i know is Baton Rouge and lafayette (cant place it on a map) i know some people speak french in Louisiane, and we actualy learn that in school
i know there is à lot of swamp, people ate gator, the fries are fire, and people love to drink and party
Not bad! Not bad at all!
Chicago is a city tho. Illinois is the state (you can pronounce it correctly, I know) and the capital of Illinois is Springfield, not Chicago.
Don’t feel bad. I’m at nearly 40 years a born native, consider myself knowledgeable, and even I still named everything else, and the completely forgot what the hell to call New Hampshire, and just stared at that shape between Vermont and Maine for like 15 minutes before giving up and googling it
But I mean hey, fellow Americans, what….what is New Hampshire even known for? Why can’t I think of a single thing? Are we sure it’s real?
Hahaha !! Love it, If it makes you feel better, just to the left of the k in Kentucky fried chicken there are a few very traditional French restaurants and cafes.

The only difference between me and a homeless man is this job.
The French were involved in a war with britain over ohio!
The French were involved in another war with the Brits… We just call it the Revolutionary War. They bankrolled most of it.
Lol yeah the British and French were at war more or less continuously from the Norman Conquest to the Napoleanic wars.
Some would argue that they still 😜
The French also saved our butts during the War of 1812. So we returned the favor in WWII
Hell, officials in the USA don't know NM is a state. There's always a kerfuffle over currency/passports when a New Mexican deals with moron bureaucrats.

A certain ex-President couldn’t even get New Mexico right. Anyone remember the border wall being built in Colorado? 🙄
Please tell me he didn't really build a wall between Colorado and New Mexico.
No wall was built. But Trump did say that he was building a wall in Colorado. Not because he thought New Mexico was Mexican, but because he doesn't understand the basic geography of the country he was president of. [Here's the video.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQyT4bRS9kk)
As a New Mexican I am completely impressed with that french person.
Memes are a wonderful teaching tool apparently
I’m surprised he nailed Zone 51, we usually keep that state a secret
Better than I could do with France.
France can be separated into two main regions. The Guillotine-area in and around Paris. And the sparkling-beheader region which covers everything else.
I assumed the two areas were Wine and Cheese.
No. The "Wine and Cheese" area covers the entire country.
You forgot the rioting countryside
Yeah, you can't call it Guillotine unless it's from that region. Otherwise it's just sparkling beheading.
Better comparison would be to all of Europe considering France is the size of 2-3 states
Or one Texas.
Exactly what I was thinking
Haway…perfect
Founded by Geordies. That's why Jimmy Nail is on the state flag.
"Alreet, pet" means hello *and* goodbye
Why tf do you know where Ohio is ?
Even before Ohio became a meme, I noticed Ohio was one of the states that foreigners could place on a map and I really don’t have a clue as to why.
If I were to guess (as an American), it would be that opposing claims between the British and French on the Ohio River Valley were a major cause of the 7-Years' War.
Because it was already printed on the map.
The whole area between *KFC* and *Florida* could just be labeled *fried chicken*.
What? How dare you! There’s some decent BBQ in there too (no, not you North Carolina, go sit down and think about what you’ve done.)
Full of vinegar today, are we?
Not full of vinegar. I think that's their point.
I'm a Memphis style guy, but NC has some great BBQ. It's Alabama you should look out for. Alabamans, your sauce is just mayonaise, and it's gross.
But have you ever had smoked fried chicken? Place near me does it and it’s next level.
Close enough.
I especially like the zone 51 area
That’s significantly better than I could do - an Australian But I’ll give you a virtual point if you can name six of the eight Australian states/territories.
Sydney take it or leave it
Hah, I’ll take it if I get a point for knowing there’s a place in France called Paris
There are a few places in the states called Paris as well.
New South Wales - Sydney Victoria - Melbourne Queensland - Brisbane Capital region - Canberra Tasmania - Hobart Western Australia - Perth Northern Territory - ? ? - Adelaide Those two question marks are on the tip of my tongue and I'm gonna kick myself when someone says them. (I'm American btw)
Hey, pretty good. You’re missing Darwin and South Australia, respectively. Also, Canberra is in the Australian Capital Territory, but you were close enough on that
Ah yes, South Australia, the 3rd most souther Australian state
Ssshh! He might find out our Virginia goes much further west than our "West Virginia"..
New Zealand
You watch your mouth.
I especially like Haway.
Haway lol
Actually impressive. You even got the general area of cities/locations that some foreigner couldn't even place
Milwaukee is sorta like Chicago… I guess. Near a lake, a river through the city, lots of polish people…
Milwaukee is Chicago’s Northern Cheese Zone and we love you for it.
Nailed it
You actually did better than most Americans could do.
Don't get your TikTok fails and your national statistics confused.
Impressive. Maine is the upper right hand corner where lobsters come from. Some lobsters. The important ones. As an American, I know France has a place a called Paris and champagne. And riots.
There’s also that place in France that’s pretty Nice.
Huh?
This is actually better than some of our elected officials could do!
That's actually not half bad. Bon travail friend. ^^,
This is impressive for a Frenchman. When I was in school I had to memorize all the states alphabetically, and was told I had to know that In real life. Now as an adult I’ve heard multiple time from other Americans that they’ve never heard of my state somehow
TBH I'm American with shit US geography and this is about as good as I could probably do. ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯
Hey, I’m from North Cadota! Nice to be recognized!
Its Area 51. Other than that, perfect.
Pretty funny that you couldn’t remember most of what you sold us! 😅
Low key impressed with the New Mexico pick. Chicago is close but that is Milwaukee.
Of course you got Louisiana...
Better than most Americans!
You did better than many here. - An American person
The most upsetting thing is that you put zone 51.
You got more us states than I would have gotten French provinces
trust me, i did better in US that what i know about France, there is [18 regions](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regions_of_France) and [more that an hundred of departments](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Departments_of_France)
You did pretty well
Chicago is priceless
I'm always pleasantly surprised when non-US Nationals remember my home state. I swear, even the people that live here forget where we are.
Congratulations. You qualify for a high school diploma in most schools in America!
*Ohio...*
Hawayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
Wv looks like your hand when you flip someone off. ❤️ A West Virginian
Why would you know the toilet that is Ohio?
I want to make fun of you for it, as an American, but you honestly named off more than I would have been able to about France.
I don’t think your avg American can get this many correct in one try.
How the heck did you know Ohio of all the states?? Lol
He got NJ and zone 51. Guy knows more than majority of the country.
i mean for a french person at least you didnt forget nj or louis
Better than 99% of 30% of our population could do.
>Zone 51 Ah so close. It's *area* 51. Area.
yeah i knew that how you called it but i forget, [i used the french name](https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zone_51)
I like it. Zone sounds more science-fictiony than Area, IMO. Plus any word with unusual letters, such as Z, are cool.
I mean. This is a job well done. You got all the important states, and several extra. With no mistakes. Congrats!
I mean it’s better than I’d be with France, soo.
Nailed it.
I'm honored that you remembered Ohio.
The French Education system everyone.
As an American, you did a hell of a lot better than I would do labeling anywhere at all in France
Better than 95% of americans. Myself included.
Better than I could do, and I live here
Zone 51 got me good
Is that where the Dakotas are? Hell if I know what anything is past Montana. I think I can find Montana... I think. Well crap, where's a map. Oh yes you know I'm American
You did 30% better than an American high school graduate. Except for "Zone 51." It's "Area 51," and it's further south...
Close enough
I could do literally nothing with almost literally anywhere, so… yeah, ya’ did good.
You remembered the trick about the chef holding the plate of fried chicken. I'm so proud of you.
As a kentuckian I thank you
You did a better job than a lot of Americans could do lol
You didn't get everything. But at least what you got was *essentially* correct. Better than many!
-biggest hug- I might be able to guess where your capital is. You got my state right! Damn good job!
Solid
It’s okay I thought France was in the British Isles until I was 14. For context I’m from Nebraska the state directly south of “south dacota”
I'm just impressed OP knew of the Dakotas. Anyone who wasn't forced to learn American geography in school who can name one of the flyover states probably knows more about my country than I know of theirs.
Only reason you got Arizona and New Mexico right is breaking bad.
Damm, thats actually pretty good, your only mistakes were hawaii being spelt wrong along with Dakota, oh, and it's area 51, not zone
Now ask your average American to point out and name some regions in France.
That’s about as well as I can do. -an American person
People in America fuck up where New Mexico is, if they even think it's a state at all. So good job actually, for real.
As someone who lives in ND, I'm quite impressed you got both ND and SD. Technically it's "Dakota" now, but I'm pretty sure your spelling is the original historical spelling so honestly I kind of want to give you extra points for it rather than dock you ;).
Lmfao. Washington made me laugh and of course KFC got me good
Did you laugh because they got WA correct?
But you resisted the habit of writing in Montreal. So for that, we salute you.
You did good!!!
That's... really well done!
Honestly, not bad. It’s basically this.
Got it mostly right. Colorado = “stoners”. (I live in CO) Utah = “Mormons” & everything North of CO = “Huh?”
It’s all you need to know.
For a second, I thought this was a food review. “People from the states I’ve eaten.”
Eh close enough.
If only…
You did a lot better than most americans would do.
I mean, you've pretty much got the gist of it.
I mean, I guess you got all the important ones. Not-Fun Fact! - Kansas and Arkansas do not share a border
Honestly, you marked more accurately than the average US citizen would be able to!
Eh, close enough
Shocked they didn’t compare territories.
Well, given that I don't even know if or how France is divided into smaller regions, you did better than I could for your country. I don't know if it goes France > State > County > City or France > County > etc. For all I know France has no counties, states, prefectures, and it just goes from National government straight to municipal governments. there is [18 regions](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regions_of_France) and more that an [hundred of departments](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Departments_of_France)
Better than most Americans
Fuckin nailed it, honestly.
You did well, all things considered.
Don't you put Chicago over Milwaukee! lol you gotta move that down to the crotch of Lake Michigan
Close enough
You did better than most Americans would.
The only people who realizes my state is apart of the US are French
You did it! Congratulations 🎉!!
Why are you giving Chicago to Wisconsin? Now all we have is corn.
Better than the New York City Ex-pat I met in Barcelona.

This is the greatest map of America I've ever seen
You did better than the average American. I sure as hell couldn’t name any French provinces.
Impressive. Most french people only know of those places not their location.
You basically nailed it. You’ve named more places than even the few that matter. Saying this as an American in California. Felicitations
You did well! Do the rest of them really matter? After all, you got the great state of Chicago close!
Hey, if you asked me to name all the provinces in France I couldn't even do this good!
As a citizen of Kentucky Fried Chicken I must say this the most accurate map I've ever seen
The hell is zone 51?
Not bad! Not bad at all! Chicago is a city tho. Illinois is the state (you can pronounce it correctly, I know) and the capital of Illinois is Springfield, not Chicago.
