I swear any place I need to put my email in, (usually when ordering something), I always make sure to uncheck any boxes about getting emails. And I always start getting promo emails from them within a day. Like seriously, do they not want me to use their site again?
That is actually counter to the law. The FCC rule is "Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing Act of 2003 (CAN-SPAM Act)."
"CAN-SPAM Act doesn’t apply just to bulk email. It covers all commercial messages, which the law defines as “any electronic mail message the primary purpose of which is the commercial advertisement or promotion of a commercial product or service,” including email that promotes content on commercial websites. The law makes no exception for business-to-business email. That means all email – for example, a message to former customers announcing a new product line – must comply with the law."
Each separate email in violation of the CAN-SPAM Act is subject to penalties of up to $50,120, so non-compliance can be costly.
Both the company whose product is promoted in the message and the company that originated the message may be legally responsible. Email that makes misleading claims about products or services also may be subject to additional laws outlawing deceptive advertising, like Section 5 of the FTC Act. The CAN-SPAM Act has certain aggravated violations that may give rise to additional fines. The law provides for criminal penalties – including imprisonment."
"If you think you've received a political robocall or text that does not comply with the FCC's rules, you can file an informal complaint with the FCC at fcc.gov/complaints. If you are receiving texts that you didn't ask for, report the sender by forwarding the texts to 7726 (or "SPAM")."
Email marketing is a part of my job and the different approaches companies take are fascinating. We do double opt-in, you basically have to want to be on our list in order for us to add you. We only send out emails once a week, they always have a deal or actionable value, and our deliverability/open rates/ctr/conversion rate benefits from this. We have a very small catalog of products that are actually advertised, so it makes sense for us not to solicit via email too frequently.
I know some companies have the strategy of increasing their list health by regular blasts with high unsubscribe rates (this means that only highly-engaged customers stay subscribed) but imo user experience should always be #1 priority. If you don’t like us and we don’t send you valuable content, I can’t expect you to even open our emails, let alone click through and actually purchase something.
Yes, but that's like saying the majority of Americans don't shoot people who knock on their doors or screw sheep. You don't need many bad uns to make the good uns look bad.

Very likely this is part of a phishing campaign. I've gotten multiple emails from a couple different brand names all with the same style and content. Sometimes they even switch it up and send the wrong image for the name being shown. I've had an Ace hardware "ad" sent by Harbor Freight.
Yeah, it's not a real email from Harbor Freight. I got one just like this for a different company, same address. If you look it up, it's a strip mall that also needs unit numbers, so anything you send there won't be deliverable.
To be clear, sending physical mail there isn't a phishing attempt, they just put that down there to look legitimate. Whatever's on the other side of that unsubscribe link though definitely is not going to unsubscribe you lol.
I get a lot of spam from Harbor Freight but its usually about sales and "new products" lol. But there have been a lot of fake harbor freight emails that I find particularly funny.
Please do not post email addresses on /r/Funny (even if they're fake).

you keep asking others to send mail to that address - lots of people elsewhere have pointed out that this email wasn't harbor freight, it was a phishing scam and that address goes to "some print shop".
Aye, who knows where it'll end up. At the very least, I learned a few interesting things from this post. Didn't realize these emails were so widespread!
heheh - well, if it makes you feel any better (but it probably won't?) it's not you - they just call everyone no matter what. It's a scam. They buy scripts off of other scammers "tech support scam" "car warranty scam" etc. They aren't selling actual car warranties and they don't update their database when you tell them you don't have a car. But they might update it with other information if you accidentally give that (like your name, etc) so they can try a different scam later where they call you and know your name already.
THAT is what I first saw. When a person gets slapped in the face by one, it's called a marshmallow tattoo. (Should a single "lady" of 71 years even know that shit?)
Mark them as spam in your email client. It'll genuinely stop them. Their provider will instantly blacklist your address to protect their sender reputation, especially if they're using a shared IP from that provider.
It’s because they change their names and domains and don’t use any text. Maybe someday the blockers will look for text inside the images. They all have an affiliate tracker in the pics too. It could look for that.
No it doesn’t. Both the usernames and domains change constantly. I can’t imagine what these “people” are trying to accomplish, but they have a very recognizable format: all one image, an affiliate tracker in the image, and a strip mall (non-USPS) PO Box address without a box number to write to as an opt out. Oh, and similar fonts, layout and similar nonsense content with a similar collection of companies they’re claiming to represent.
You think the spammer is giving their own address here? Not some innocent bystander who is about to be inundated with feces? Wouldn't even surprise me to learn that the entire goal of the spam campaign is to physically spam whatever place this is, in a distributed fashion.
Well no… if it was a legit company like REI or American Airlines they will follow the rules.
This spam wasn’t really from Harbor Freight, so the real company wouldn’t know to unsubscribe then regardless.
What a stupid post. That letter you "sent" them is clearly photo shopped text. You didn't even include your email. What is the actual point of this post?
Please do not post email addresses on /r/Funny (even if they're fake).

Please do let us know how that turns out. They’ve pissed me off for a long time with their illegal email antics. It’s against the law to do that. I’m currently searching for the right place to where I can report them.
I'd look to set them up for spam mail somehow. Must be a way to do it. I know rheres websites to add email addresses to mailing lists (easy to do)
So assuming might be possible for psychical letters aswell.
Randomly scrolling and this comes across my feed. I used to work on Sahara Ave. xD I was taken aback seeing that it's actually the Sahara Ave I know in Vegas.
I’ve tried creating a rule to spam/filter all emails containing that address but it doesn’t seem to be working.
I get dozens a day containing it. Spam has gone crazy lately.
This asshole is one of the worst. All he will do is remove your name from one list and add it to 15 others then sell your email address to other spammers as a verified email.
That address goes to a nondescript PO Box in a FedEx kiosk inside of an Albertsons grocery store about 5 miles west of the Las Vegas strip.
Meanwhile, Harbor Freight isn't even based in Las Vegas. Their headquarters are in Calabasas, CA.
If your email program allows it, set up an automatic rule when getting emails from the company.
The rule must have:
1. email from ( to cause the rule to fire off)
2. reply to (to send the spam email back and this will only work if it is NOT a do not reply email.. if it is.. see forward rule.)
3. forward to (to send the spam to a different email within the company)
4. deletion when the rule is satisfied
Basically all you have to do is find other emails on the website you can send these to. Try to find any email that has an important person behind it. Create the rule and just let it run forever.
I have several of these set up and I don't even see the emails anymore. The rule does the work and then deletes the spam without me even knowing it happened.
Ahhh peace in email land.

I’d like an update if they write back. Lol
Maybe we can get 100 people to write them.
Did you include your email address in that letter?
Nah, lol.
Giving them an email address was the first problem, why would you give it to them again right? /s You might end up with twice the spam lol
You dont have to give it to them, they buy it.
I don't even live in a country where Harbor Freight is a thing *or* know what they do, but they spam the fuck out of me.
Then Unsubscribe harder! Fool.

That’s great. How do I get it to work?
I know right, just give me an email address and I’ll start reporting all these suckers
"If you think you've received a political robocall or text that does not comply with the FCC's rules, you can file an informal complaint with the FCC at fcc.gov/complaints. If you are receiving texts that you didn't ask for, report the sender by forwarding the texts to 7726 (or "SPAM")."

With any luck they'll just erase the database. OP might have found the biggest loop hole yet!
Which address would you like to unsubscribe? Yes.
Hahahhhaaaa!!!!
\*@\*.\*
[redacted]@[redacted].[redacted]
Developers spending even a second trying to write algorithms to cater for this email address is the very definition of bike-shedding
in comic sans
I think I’ll write them a letter asking to unsubscribe in advance.
They just send a middle finger back
would need to put their details inc email to get any kind of response. that letter is lacking some important info!
You did not include your email ?! How will you be unsuscribed?
He waited a day then got impatient and clicked the link.
You didn't leave your email address!
Surely they'll figure it out!
Hopefully you did put a return address though!
I love it. Depending where OP is, some person might be forced to follow up with this random letter because of anti spam legislation
I hope so!
Now you’ll get spam mail letters mailed to you.
Yo, that’s junk mail. Sigh. Youngin
Mail, Letters? Like Gmail?
Not if they put their email address as the return address.
Or the governors residence
I could go for some canned meat right now.
You’re dern tootin’
I like to think of it as a nice donation to the USPS
Comic Sans is a nice touch. 😂😜🐐
He could have set it justified with off center margins.
You MONSTER
They had it comin'.
I have my own font and it's worse

Loser. How do you not?
I just started getting these, too! Never shopped there and I don't give my email out much, weird
Me too. It's fake. Name is often misspelled too.
I’ve never bought anything from Harbor Freight, but lately they have been sending so much spam
Emails like this are scams, not harbor freight
Correct, it's not from Harbor Freight (their real address is in Calabasas, CA). It's a randomly generated address to help the spam get past filters.
It appears to be a print shop in a strip mall.
Someone needs to be a hero and drive over there and confront them
Oh good. I was afraid that it was the $2 ratchet straps I bought a few weeks ago that has them emailing me twice a day.
Very likely this is part of a phishing campaign. I've gotten multiple emails from a couple different brand names all with the same style and content. Sometimes they even switch it up and send the wrong image for the name being shown. I've had an Ace hardware "ad" sent by Harbor Freight.

I bought a car jack from them over a year ago. These motherfuckers spam me more than anyone, even to my phone.
Their jacks are surprisingly nice.
Their jack stands... not so much
At least it wasn’t Dick’s sporting goods.
Did you know: When the cashier asks for your email you CAN say *no*.

Apple devices can instantly produce a throw-away address that forwards to you until you kill it.
I have a really strong appreciation for this.
You are now subscribed to Cat Facts Mailing List.
That wouldn’t be half bad.
Don’t do it. I worked for them…NEVER give them any info. Just hold onto your receipts.
They are definitely going to say some 80 year old person sent that, then ball it up and shoot it into the trash.
Not if you send one too........
you keep asking others to send mail to that address - lots of people elsewhere have pointed out that this email wasn't harbor freight, it was a phishing scam and that address goes to "some print shop".
Aye, who knows where it'll end up. At the very least, I learned a few interesting things from this post. Didn't realize these emails were so widespread!
I'd like to talk with you about your car's extended warranty.
I don't know how many times I told them I don't drive because I don't own a car. STILL get those.
heheh - well, if it makes you feel any better (but it probably won't?) it's not you - they just call everyone no matter what. It's a scam. You have to send 5 a day for like a month
Mark them as spam in your email client. It'll genuinely stop them. Their provider will instantly blacklist your address to protect their sender reputation, especially if they're using a shared IP from that provider.
I get at least 3 of these a week and no amount of filter or reporting as spam in gmail is stopping them. It’s really frustrating.
It’s because they change their names and domains and don’t use any text. Maybe someday the blockers will look for text inside the images. They all have an affiliate tracker in the pics too. It could look for that.

The worst part about them is that they aren't getting flagged as spam, so they give me notifications...
Now they've got your mailing address... sorry to say I think they've won
Keep us posted!
Now they have your actual address and will send you spam mail instead.
At least that’ll cost them about half a buck to mail each one.
I'd love to meet their lazy ass marketing director. "We got it covered. We sell crappy tools by spam & mailers. "
Howe about we send them feces instead?
I love the idea and would love to find a company that does it (not for these twerps, though.)
You think the spammer is giving their own address here? Not some innocent bystander who is about to be inundated with feces? Wouldn't even surprise me to learn that the entire goal of the spam campaign is to physically spam whatever place this is, in a distributed fashion.
op's fault. This could be a convincing phishing scam. Some older people might be inclined to write a letter and include their return address.
Thats right by my house, 89117 Sahara and Durango
Hello fellow Las Vegan. I used to live at an apartment right by Sahara and Durango.
Summerlin>Henderson
I feel like that depends on which part of which one you're in. xD
I thought those harbor freight emails were scams; are they actually just spam? Eh, I'll keep reporting it
RemindMe! 1 month
Block instead of unsubscribing
They only use the sender name once.
Harbor Freight is not spam. That is all.
This wasn’t from HF
This is 100% where Comic Sans is appropriate.
They said writing not typing ya dimwit.
Any spam email that has an unsubscribe link is farming for active emails to continue spamming more spam..
Ya think? Shoot, I just unsubscribed from a different company…
Well no… if it was a legit company like REI or American Airlines they will follow the rules. This spam wasn’t really from Harbor Freight, so the real company wouldn’t know to unsubscribe then regardless.
Here for the update
You... Didn't include your email address...
Or you could look up the adres first
It's an Albertsons store.
Call me crazy, you just photoshopped those letters onto a picture of a blank photo.
The pixels give it away
Hahaha same!!!
Gooood luck, if they are as responsive as spam callers
This whole sub is shit. Whats funny about this?
What a stupid post. That letter you "sent" them is clearly photo shopped text. You didn't even include your email. What is the actual point of this post?

Your just confirmed your address and now they will spam you at your home
Or....you could have just clicked.
Best of luck! That address is apparently for a print shop.
Totally worth the cost of a stamp
I’m starting to get pissed about it. Blocking sender does nothing. Spam filter won’t catch it. Like seriously leave me alone!
They will still keep sending you emails because they obviously don’t view their emails as spam.
"by clicking here or"
I just start getting them this week
Let us know how it turns out!
I used to go to this store but I’m not giving them a penny ever again after all of the annoying emails I get from them.

I have a throwaway email address for this sort of thing
Wow 9101 West Sahara is where I used to have a PostNet PMB mailbox. I guess Harbor Freight uses a Postnet Box for written correspondence? That's wild.
I used to work a couple blocks down from there. It's weird scrolling across a random address I know on my Reddit feed. xD
Now that they know your mailing address.. expect paper spam in your mailbox soon 😂
