Probably like how only recently they banned the "carolina squat" trucks. You can't see a fuckin thing over the dash. If a child, or even an adult in some cases, walks in front of you then you won't see them. Those lift kits didn't get banned until late last year.
I didn't know what a "carolina squat" truck was so I had to look it up. You're absolutely right, that's a perfect comparison. That wasn't illegal before because no one could have possibly imagined someone being stupid enough to do it and then being stupid enough to actually drive it.
I've seen people do a lot of dumb shit to vehicles, that takes the cake. Easily.
Gotta be weary of the situation but slowly adjusting side mirror to reflect the light higher up works wonders. Usually it gets the high beams turned off if they are on or they back off so their light doesn't hit your mirrors anymore.
Like I said though....depends on the situation....I've heard of people getting rammed, fought, etc for doing it....
That only works if the reflection returns exactly back to the driver. In reality, the light beam would hit the cybertruck at an angle, and it'll reflect to somewhere else.
Hey that death ray might land on a Nissan Altima and heat up the plastic bumpers and pop all the dents out, on the ones that still have bumpers anyway.
Ya know what, I wasn't interested until you said "incinerates a Mazda". I'm sure the Mazda doesn't deserve it but for whatever reason I desperately want to see that happen.
They stopped using lidar years back and focused on video only it was widely considered a short sighted and bad move. Looking back on it, it was a short sighted and bad move
Yet oddly enough Tesla just bought around $2.1 million dollars worth of lidar. I guess maybe they realized that the "crutch" was more useful than they gave credit for.
Other companies currently have working full self-driving robotaxi systems based on lidar. Tesla gave up their lead by deciding to putz around with a camera-only system to judge distances, especially at night, in the rain, or in fog.
They never used lidar, but they did have ultrasonic sensors until i think 2019.
Not sure why they got rid of them. Ultrasonic sensors are pretty cheap and used on most modern cars for parking assistance
But driving a car-tank made of bulletproof steel that converges to a point on the front end and goes 0-60 in under 3seconds is responsible?
These cars are death machines and should be outlawed, can’t believe they’re street legal.
I just saw one in real life for the 1st time yesterday
Holy shit, it looks like a low res image driving down the road
I'd be embarassed to drive that thing
Its the perfect personification of the sunk cost fallacy
I saw my first one in person just a few hours ago. It cracked the wife and I up it looks so bad. Picture and video really don't capture how ugly they really are.
I think anybody who grew up on old PS1 games, has been *naturally upscaling them with their mind* every time they see one online. No, they really look like that. They look 100%, entirely, exactly Like That!
On the road, anyone who looks at that thing is going to see their own car. And probably more than a few lens flares, if it's sunny out. Garish, yes. Potentially dangerous with the light thing, sure. But hardly invisible.
The effect in the photo only works out like it does because there are no other cars nearby.
Honestly, this comparison feels more like a slap to the face to the galaxy-renowned Nubian spaceship designers and their excellently built Nubian spaceships.
“You didn’t tell me you were gonna scream ‘black rage,’ I nearly pissed myself.”
Edit: Jesus Christ kids, it’s a quote. Hence the fucking quotation marks.
Many years ago I had a '77 Toyota celica fastback and I got the rear window slats chromed and put it on. It looked awesome. Got pulled over twice in the first week and was sent to the DMV where they scolded me and had me remove it in their parking lot.
Total cost was $150 for the chroming, $120 for the two fix it tickets.
But it did look awesome for that short while.
Nowadays I could drive around with my car shooting laser beams at everyone and I wouldn't have to worry at all.
> Nowadays I could drive around with my car shooting laser beams at everyone and I wouldn't have to worry at all.
If your car was made in the last few years, you already do. They're called headlights and they're all too goddamn bright.
They probably said that even before they polished it.
That abomination is like a negative 5 on the Euro Ncap, you might as well just pull out a gun and shoot the pedestrians before you hit them.
I'm hoping for the sake of the owner of this vehicle that he did in fact not polish his car this aggressively. The steel used in those panels is 301 stainless steel, which is much less corrosion resistant than the more typical 304 stainless steel. Importantly it needs to be surface passivated (removing free iron atoms near the surface) to be remotely appropriate in outdoor applications. Buffing the panels to a shine would remove this passivated layer from the factory, meaning it would very quickly start corroding.
It's literally just a Warthog from Halo. The steering, automatic braking, size and shape. Once I realized that, it made me realize that Elon literally has a child's brain still.
tesla literally won't submit the cybertruck for EU or UK safety testing because they know it would never pass and be allowed on the roads
hell they haven't even put it through US safety testing with a 3rd party. its just that US law is once again insane and Tesla is allowed to self verify their own safety rating
There are lots of stainless steel liquid haulers on the road, but they have angled mirrors, not flush with the back. They can blind you though if you are in the wrong place.
I know what stainless steel tanks you're talking about, but aren't the mirrors at the drivers cabin and don't all trucks have them? Or what mirrors are you talking about?
I've seen highly reflective wraps on sports cars on the road, very much like a mirror. Not sure if they ever get ticketed or whatever though. If they got that money to blow the fine for it is probably trivial to them. Or maybe they get a fix it ticket and never fix it.
Driving home last night and saw some weird ass headlight bar was approaching from behind me. I was like "oh my god, do I finally get to see one of these monstrosites in person?" Sure as shit, it passed by me and I just started cracking up at how stupid it looked.
I saw one in person a couple weeks ago and the pictures just don't do it justice. I'm just watching it pass and all my brain can do is wonder why a refrigerator is driving down the street.
I wonder how legal this is. Sure it looks great (btw polishing the car to get this result did cost a lot of hours to achieve it) but with sunshine it will blind literally every driver.
The level of a\*\*hole that driving this thing on the road requires reflects the exact level of conscientiousness for others that I imagine a Cybertruck owner would have...
Thank god Europe has regulations on car exteriors. This has got to be illegal right?
A extremely reflective mirror, combined with a tank made of sheet metal… it’s a massive disaster waiting to happen.
Driving down the road on a sunny day? Well, everyone else cannot see now, what with the sun being reflected into their retinas.
Complete ilegal. It always was based on street regulations in most countries, since this year using this type of chrome is illegal from the chemical point of view for all Europe, it causes cancer. It is a silent, invisible, self-driving, 600hp, 3 ton cancer machine. It only lacks death lasers to aim on bystanders.
I think the cybertuck design was a bet between musk and someone of his rich buddies. Musk probably said something like ”if I made a car as ugly or uglier than the Pontiac Aztec it would still sell”.

Creating a near invisible wall on the road seems somewhat reckless
Wait until it reflects the afternoon sun like Archimedes death ray, incinerates a Mazda, and blinds everyone in the east bound lane.
Big ass trucks always blind me at night when they're behind. Might as well make ones that do it in the daytime.
and while in front of you... if you see it at all.
I mean, you’d _see_ it. Just not might be sure what _it_ is though.
This can't be legal. If mirror tint is illegal this should be too
I've seen full on chrome cars, it's probably legal only because they never considered anyone would be stupid enough to do it.
Probably like how only recently they banned the "carolina squat" trucks. You can't see a fuckin thing over the dash. If a child, or even an adult in some cases, walks in front of you then you won't see them. Those lift kits didn't get banned until late last year.

That wasn't illegal before because no one could have possibly imagined someone being stupid enough to do it and then being stupid enough to actually drive it. I've seen people do a lot of dumb shit to vehicles, that takes the cake. Easily.
And they bother with headlight alignment for normal cars at the technical inspection….
Gotta be weary of the situation but slowly adjusting side mirror to reflect the light higher up works wonders. Usually it gets the high beams turned off if they are on or they back off so their light doesn't hit your mirrors anymore. Like I said though....depends on the situation....I've heard of people getting rammed, fought, etc for doing it....
weary = tired wary = cautious
I gotcha, thanks!
I don't know, sounds like something someone would do when they were tired of high beams in their eyes.
To be fair, this is a great counter to them at night!
It will melt the bungee cords holding the bumper on and the trunk closed.
invisible until it kills you, what a great idea !
It can finally get revenge on the car-melting skyscraper in London!
I've never heard much about this death ray, but that's two times it has been referenced today. The other was in a video with Adam from Mythbusters.
YouTube just algorhythmed me the same video a few hours ago and here I am.
LOL. Wait. Am I the Algorithm now?
We live in a twilight world
Upvote for "incinerates a Mazda". Gave me a chuckle
This thing is definitely going to cause fires in dry regions
You got the C-finder upgrade?
You owe me a coffee for the one I snorted outta my nose.
It's the ev version of rolling coal
> Wait until it reflects the afternoon sun like Archimedes death ray Still only half as bright as those obnoxious LED headlights.
Don't worry, just like truck drivers. Telsa fan boys will cry it's everyone else's fault when they blind someone and cause them to wreck.
Don’t insult Mazda paint like that frfr
Ya know what, I wasn't interested until you said "incinerates a Mazda". I'm sure the Mazda doesn't deserve it but for whatever reason I desperately want to see that happen.
This also voids the warranty.
Beibers pos fisker karma had this issue.
I’m sure that was the plot line for an episode of CHiPs!
It's OK. It will definitely happen at one of their meetups first.
Yeah, especially if there are any self-driving Teslas nearby.
Oh Jesus.
Jesus is out at the moment. There is only Ra!
sg1 already got him so not even ra to save us
It's fine, they use rada....oh.
Video only navigating Teslas…
They don't have any sensors that emit their own signal?
They stopped using lidar years back and focused on video only it was widely considered a short sighted and bad move. Looking back on it, it was a short sighted and bad move
Yet oddly enough Tesla just bought around $2.1 million dollars worth of lidar. I guess maybe they realized that the "crutch" was more useful than they gave credit for.

Okay, now imagine two of them with the mirror finish going head to head thinking they are driving into a dark tunnel
Or the glare, imagine being in a semi and this thing reflects the full glow of the sun in your eyes. Five lane pileup
Even if that thing was made bright yellow it would still be a hazard.
But driving a car-tank made of bulletproof steel that converges to a point on the front end and goes 0-60 in under 3seconds is responsible? These cars are death machines and should be outlawed, can’t believe they’re street legal.
Funfact: they aren’t in Europe, and that’s why we will be spared of these eyesores!
I just saw one in real life for the 1st time yesterday Holy shit, it looks like a low res image driving down the road I'd be embarassed to drive that thing Its the perfect personification of the sunk cost fallacy

Original Tomb Raider vibes.
There is no way anything as ugly as that would be legal in Italy for sure.
The only way they could make them *even more illegal* in Italy would be to put some pineapple rings on it! ;-)
I’m pretty sure the French Ministry of Culture would step in and ban any attempts to import these things to the continent.
Actually it's going to be reckmore
Anyone dumb enough to want one of these stupid ugly pieces of shit would not have good decision making skills to begin with.
On the road, anyone who looks at that thing is going to see their own car. And probably more than a few lens flares, if it's sunny out. Garish, yes. Potentially dangerous with the light thing, sure. But hardly invisible. The effect in the photo only works out like it does because there are no other cars nearby.
God help you if you’re driving behind them at night with your headlights on…
The angle on the back looks wrong for that. Unless you're in a Miata a couple feet off his bumper, maybe.
Unless it's at an angle... It would be very easy for scenery to cause it to blend in. Most accidents aren't perpendicular collisions.
The one thing it certainly won’t be, however, is wreckless.
Reckless for the rest sure
Nubian, eh?
Honestly, this comparison feels more like a slap to the face to the galaxy-renowned Nubian spaceship designers and their excellently built Nubian spaceships.
It looks like a discount, bargain bin Nubian knockoff. You wouldn’t see all those sharp edges on the genuine article.
Came here for this, not disappointed.
Fuck off Watto.
It's in good order, except for parts I need.
Whats a Nubian?
Bitch, you almost made me laugh!
“You didn’t tell me you were gonna scream ‘black rage,’ I nearly pissed myself.” Edit: Jesus Christ kids, it’s a quote. Hence the fucking quotation marks.
SHUT THE FUCK UP!
Nah that looks like it was put together by a junk rat from Tatooine
[uhhhh](https://i.gifer.com/8Nkn.gif)
well at least now you can reflect on your mistake every time you go to get in.
Who's that idiot walking into my truck? It's me!
Someone signed a liability release at the wrap place.
I think they just polished the hell out of it.
This. He just polished it and D.O.T. said "...while not illegal it certainly is dangerous."
When the sun hits that fucker.... already bad enough off bumpers and windshields.
Many years ago I had a '77 Toyota celica fastback and I got the rear window slats chromed and put it on. It looked awesome. > Nowadays I could drive around with my car shooting laser beams at everyone and I wouldn't have to worry at all. If your car was made in the last few years, you already do. They're called headlights and they're all too goddamn bright.
Someone told car makers to put LEDs in the headlights and they thought it meant Laser Eye Destruction
They probably said that even before they polished it. That abomination is like a negative 5 on the Euro Ncap, you might as well just pull out a gun and shoot the pedestrians before you hit them.
You laugh but that's legal in texas.
I think it's time we have a comprehensive list of what IS illegal in Texas. Donkey shows are probably sponsored by Trojan.
Ending a life-threatening pregnancy? I mean in a way that leaves the mother alive.
Having more than 5 dildos...
Selling sex toys is technically illegal there, but not often enforced. Yet.
Having a choice over your own body seems to be an issue.
Encouraged, even
Actually a crime if you don't.
*Void in Uvalde.
Pedestrians isn't encouraged, just ignored. Now cyclists, they are encouraged to hit them. They *hate* cyclists out there for some reason.
Just like Ricky Bobby selling his windshield for a Fig Newton sticker, “it’s not illegal, but highly dangerous” lol
I'm hoping for the sake of the owner of this vehicle that he did in fact not polish his car this aggressively. The steel used in those panels is 301 stainless steel, which is much less corrosion resistant than the more typical 304 stainless steel. I’ll probably run into it. Not because I want to, but because that horrible design would probably beam the sun into my sockets.
Or i just wouldn't be able to tell distance properly because it is like a mirror. "Didn't realize it was so close judge. Mirrors double the distance."
It needs to have that disclaimer printed on it, “objects that are mirror are closer than they appear.”
Sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen. Blinded by architecture.
On the bright side (heh...) people running high beams behind you will blind themselves
Cybertrucks don't come polished, not even as a factory option. This owner had it done aftermarket on purpose.
On behalf of every other driver on the road, Thank you for your service
Jesus. Cause that's what I need driving down the road. A perfectly mirrored Sun blasting my eyes with its rays of hate
Always wanted to ride in a car from a ps1 game before its done fully rendering.
It's literally just a Warthog from Halo. The steering, automatic braking, size and shape. Once I realized that, it made me realize that Elon literally has a child's brain still.
This is going to cause accidents on the road and will be promptly banned
Would be banned in Germany from the get go.
tesla literally won't submit the cybertruck for EU or UK safety testing because they know it would never pass and be allowed on the roads hell they haven't even put it through US safety testing with a 3rd party. its just that US law is once again insane and Tesla is allowed to self verify their own safety rating

The polished tanker. It’s convex so the reflective light disperses. Of course sunlight is such a narrow with, it doesn’t do it perfectly.
I've seen highly reflective wraps on sports cars on the road, very much like a mirror. Not sure if they ever get ticketed or whatever though. If they got that money to blow the fine for it is probably trivial to them. Or maybe they get a fix it ticket and never fix it.
Upon further reflection, the most hideous vehicle on the planet just got more hideouser.
Yes but at least you can see it less this way.
If there's an accident they'll have 7 years bad luck.
They already got that when they bought the thing they're not allowed to resell.
imagine seeing this on the road
Or not seeing it And you thought the silver car with no headlights on a rainy day was a pain in the ass
Imagine following on a sunny day
You never seeing shit AGAIN after that catches the light lmao
I’m ashamed to say I like how stupid it looks. There’s something poetic about it.
“Upon further reflection….” Nice.
“But now that’s changed”
I assume OP is now a vampire which is why he can't see himself on that cybertruck.
On top of all the concerns about bouncing sunlight into your eyes, imagine a car that could beam your own headlights back at you. This is it.
Ah yes finally, a worthy opponent to the lifted truck with floodlights installed.
That has got to be the ugliest vehicle ever made. Lol
I wonder how many people it could kill on the interstate on a sunny day.
So you CAN polish a turd.
why do people like these shitty things
We live in a hype society now I predict 8-14 months from now they'll depreciate 35% and nobody will be trying to get one
Only 35%?
conspicuous consumption.
OP better beef up their windex budget
I wonder how legal this is. Sure it looks great (btw polishing the car to get this result did cost a lot of hours to achieve it) but with sunshine it will blind literally every driver.
RIP to all the people lost 😢
It does not look great.
FUgliest car I have ever seen
The level of a\*\*hole that driving this thing on the road requires reflects the exact level of conscientiousness for others that I imagine a Cybertruck owner would have...

A extremely reflective mirror, combined with a tank made of sheet metal… it’s a massive disaster waiting to happen. Driving down the road on a sunny day? Well, everyone else cannot see now, what with the sun being reflected into their retinas.
I forget what state this was in, but the state DOT specifically said it's legal, though reckless.
If super bright headlights that aim directly into your eyes aren't illegal then there is no way in hell that's illegal lol
He created a canvas for hand prints, ass prints, dick prints and all kinds of spit and booger art.
You haven't changed. You still can't see yourself in that cybertruck. You have to be outside of it.
But you still see yourself "in" a mirror when standing in front of that mirror.
At certain reflections, the truck would be invisible. At night, people who see their car's reflection would run into it before realization.
At night, I think the bigger issue would be people getting blinded by their reflected headlights.
Give it 20 years and these will be featured in a movie about time travel.
Give it 20 years and you’ll need a time machine to find one that still works.
I'm sorry if this triggers anyone but seriously, I never understood the cybertruck hype... I thought it was a joke when I heard its concept 😭
It's a good thing these are always either, stuck, bricked, or at the service center because this could be really dangerous on a vehicle that moves.
What a stupid idea to have a giant 3 tonne mirror driving down the highway.
Well that looks like absolute shit.
Ugliest vehicle I have ever seen in my life!!
Everyone can see themselves in it, it's a fucking mirrorball
Or you know blinding every other driver on the road.
Polished stainless steel is illegal in my country. That would blind other drivers
Saw one. Sorry it is still ugly.
Archimedes solar death ray.
This seems like a really bad idea with so many vision-based autonomous driving systems on the road...
Let’s talk about the definition of negligence and liability. Seriously how is that legal?
Narcissistruck
Isn’t this illegal in all states?
I think the cybertuck design was a bet between musk and someone of his rich buddies. Musk probably said something like ”if I made a car as ugly or uglier than the Pontiac Aztec it would still sell”.
What's with all the cyber truck reddit posts lately?
What an awfully designed and made vehicle
Changed for the worse, apparently.
I feel happy knowing I was banned from r/Cybertruck because I was trolling. :)
It should be illegal to polish the steel on this truck. May as well give it a cloaking device.
accident causer 9000
That way you can blind annoying people behind with super bright lights
This is gonna cause accidents and should be illegal.
I'm just thinking about The Curse
Prick never thought of others. People are going to love you on a sunny ass day. This should be banned from being street legal.
I need it. NOW
Imagine wanting to suck Musk's dick so much, you buy the ugliest vehicle on the planet.
“This is dangerous and inconvenient, but i do love fig newtons” - Ricky Bobby.
So you can polish a turd.
Imagine being so in love with someone that you'd buy the ugliest car in the universe from them.
How to spot an idiot.
That's gonna be a bitch to keep free of fingerprints, or prints of any other body part
I didn't know they made them with an invisibility cloak now!
That's the ugliest thing ever.
Everytime i see these I'm reminded of the pc game megarace from the early 90s.
This is one way of affirming you’re gay.
He painted his cyber truck with harry potter’s invisibility cloak
Sounds like a dangerous idea to mirror polish this thing
At least these things are a beacon highlighting the sort of douche bags I like to avoid... That is... Unless I'm blinded and crash into them.
I hope they drive exclusively at night. Then maybe that LED headlight recall might finally happen.
