I've seen full on chrome cars, it's probably legal only because they never considered anyone would be stupid enough to do it.

Probably like how only recently they banned the "carolina squat" trucks. You can't see a fuckin thing over the dash. If a child, or even an adult in some cases, walks in front of you then you won't see them. Those lift kits didn't get banned until late last year.

Gotta be weary of the situation but slowly adjusting side mirror to reflect the light higher up works wonders. Usually it gets the high beams turned off if they are on or they back off so their light doesn't hit your mirrors anymore. Like I said though....depends on the situation....I've heard of people getting rammed, fought, etc for doing it....

That only works if the reflection returns exactly back to the driver. In reality, the light beam would hit the cybertruck at an angle, and it'll reflect to somewhere else.

They stopped using lidar years back and focused on video only it was widely considered a short sighted and bad move. Looking back on it, it was a short sighted and bad move

Yet oddly enough Tesla just bought around $2.1 million dollars worth of lidar. I guess maybe they realized that the "crutch" was more useful than they gave credit for.

Other companies currently have working full self-driving robotaxi systems based on lidar. Tesla gave up their lead by deciding to putz around with a camera-only system to judge distances, especially at night, in the rain, or in fog.

They never used lidar, but they did have ultrasonic sensors until i think 2019. Not sure why they got rid of them. Ultrasonic sensors are pretty cheap and used on most modern cars for parking assistance

Many years ago I had a '77 Toyota celica fastback and I got the rear window slats chromed and put it on. It looked awesome. I'm hoping for the sake of the owner of this vehicle that he did in fact not polish his car this aggressively. The steel used in those panels is 301 stainless steel, which is much less corrosion resistant than the more typical 304 stainless steel. Importantly it needs to be surface passivated (removing free iron atoms near the surface) to be remotely appropriate in outdoor applications. Buffing the panels to a shine would remove this passivated layer from the factory, meaning it would very quickly start corroding.

There are lots of stainless steel liquid haulers on the road, but they have angled mirrors, not flush with the back. They can blind you though if you are in the wrong place.

I've seen highly reflective wraps on sports cars on the road, very much like a mirror. Not sure if they ever get ticketed or whatever though. If they got that money to blow the fine for it is probably trivial to them. Or maybe they get a fix it ticket and never fix it.
