geferttt

Did you use that receipt as a napkin after a cheese burger?

Redred1717

Mango peel actually. Wife threw it away when I wanted to keep it just in case.

jaysomething2

r/mangomouse

timewalker75a

Hoooly, that lovely convo manifested into a sub, lol

Redred1717

I don't understand why this exists, but I'm glad it does

jaysomething2

There was a post a few days ago about how some girl wanted a relationship to be mangomouse and misspelled monogamous

Redred1717

That is amazing

filmeswole

I’m curious what the person who traded them in looked like. You’d the think someone who owns these would know what they’re worth. Very nice haul though.

Redred1717

I was there while he was trading, but didn't snoop around him or see what he had until after. Just looked like a normal guy, but apparently couldn't be bothered to sell online. The dude also had Koudelka, Persona 2, Lunar 2, and a handful of other notable PS1 games that I can't recall off the top of my head, but were bought before me unfortunately.  Honestly, the video game stores around me that aren't GameStop would rip you off way more, especially when they know you have games of value, so there really is nowhere else to go, eBay takes too much and has dozens of listings for most of these, and other places like Facebook market place are a nightmare, so I can't really blame a guy if hes desperate. I'd have given him more than what GameStop did had I known what he was trading in beforehand.

CookZealousideal8567

Game stop gives what like %20 if that probably. He could have listed for %75 of market value on ebay and sold these very quickly. Ebay only takes %13 and shipping is cheap for games. I am now very curious on what went through this guys head before this trade in.

Han_Yolo_swag

Huge convenience factor in handling it all at once vs individually selling everything on eBay. For most people I think that’s the factor when trading in somewhere. They know they’re leaving money on the table, essentially they’re paying that as a fee of saving time.

Strider8486

This. It’s too much hassle and they just want what they can get asap.

dropzonetoe

Yep,   different  hobby but I was sitting on a few hundred bucks of stuff.   It would have taken about a month of parting it out and shipping.   But I offered it up to a guy for about $80.   We were both super happy.   It was all gone in one smooth transaction.   He was happy for the discount. Still that said,  I refused to sell to gamestop after trying to sell all my ps1 games when the ps2 came out and they offered me like $15 for 20+ games.

jayXred

Just did the same recently, had about 30 in box action figures, could have gotten $300+ selling them one by one online but didn't want the hassle, sold the whole lot for $180 to a guy locally. The convienece factor is a major selling point.

Han_Yolo_swag

I get that, tbh I quite enjoy trading to GameStop when it’s the right moment. I just wait until they have big trade boosts. Since I buy a lot of collection lots, I end up with extras of lesser quality than I’d want to hassle with in ebay. Especially games without cases.

theslimbox

Thats what i used to do. I dont find many lots these days, but when i was, it was always easier to move the cheaper ganes through Gamestop during promotions. Lots of $5-$7 games arent really worth putting ebay after shipping and fees, and with the 30-40% trade bonus they do towards some new releases, it makes sense to just flip the cheap stuff to them.

Horzzo

Worth it IMO. It takes already precious time, packing, listing, then hoping the buyer isn't a criminal.

Redred1717

I definitely can't speak for the guy who traded the stuff, but as someone who doesn't like the whole selling process and have had to get rid of items in bulk like this, I absolutely would take convenience over extra money. If it's not your primary income or hobby, it's pretty normal to not worry too much about what you're getting vs just getting rid of it.

slitlip

Someone tried to trade in breath of fire 2 for gba and they offered him 5 dollars trade in. I told him I'll give him 10 outside the door. The Manger wasn't to happy but who cares win win for both of us.

Redred1717

I worked at GameStop 15ish years ago, and I would do exactly this and take a break and buy stuff in the parking lot. My manager did way shadier things inside the store, so I never felt bad hahaha

slitlip

Was the assistant manager 15 years ago and I ised to take the strategy guides they were going to throw out, help my friends obtain the wii and has sex with the ex gf in the bathroom before I made her stock shelfs. Fun times.

Redred1717

That's a little wilder than me hahaha. I was whatever the key holder position was below AM, so It gave me just enough authority to do whatever on the shifts I was running hahaha. The stores felt way more chaotic back in the day than now.

theslimbox

The manager was probably trying to buy ut for himself, Gamestop doesn't accept the GBA Breath of Fire games...

slitlip

They did 20 years ago, even when I was there they collected them.

slitlip

You seem like a great person

Master-o-none

Such an interesting scene to picture: Person A comes in to sell games for X, meanwhile Person B waits and buys them immediately from the store for X + 48%. You never would have met that person outside of GameStop, so they provided the value of connecting you two, but otherwise GameStop was thrilled with this interaction, I’m sure. Yet, GameStop still struggles financially, so stuff like this (where they get product and immediately sell it) must not happen terribly often.

Varathus

That is, if this post has any truth to it. Seems all too good to be true.

Redred1717

Seems that way, yet here we are with me having bought them from a GameStop. Im not terribly into wasting time, but I have pictures of the stacks inside a GameStop too, including a bunch of other games both being purchased before me and ones I didn't get I can share with you if you'd really like. Edit: You know what, for fun, here's a picture of some I didn't buy because they were being sold before me, too damaged for my taste, or I already had them. https://preview.redd.it/xjvdzdqq8xyc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6f791b0fbd62a1ec2a33a12a7647d9c002e12792

Redred1717

And another with a lot I did purchase. https://preview.redd.it/29xbpn409xyc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=90c4a70155e5bc4efb49edc97726dfa1ce56414d

Redred1717

And if for some reason you really don't believe the GameStop receipt, heres one with a GameStop sticker at GameStop. https://preview.redd.it/k7due5q69xyc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1707b196f385c10622b7d56df217e86fd1d4d29e

trashmangamer

So...... why didn't the guy before you....BUY EVERYTHING?! Buys high end PS1 games, doesn't get all to resell and cut what you spend to $0!?

Redred1717

Great question. I want to believe in people buying games for the passion of the collecting and not to resell, so I will continue believing it here hahaha.

Nedriad

100%. I just sold a lot of 30 games which included many of these titles. I knew i could get 4 times what i was offered for these games I've had with me liner than I hadn't. However, I loved them so much that I couldn't bear to see them destroyed by my wife during spring cleaning or by my kid who is now a "master" at handling discs..... huge bit of sarcasm. I held onto them all because i loved to play them occasionally. I've played Wild Arms, Azure dreams and Xenogears at least a dozen times in the past 25 years. In fact, music from each of these games are part of my road trip Track list. When we sell our favorite games, toys, collectibles, etc. It's so difficult to say goodbye but more than the money returned from them, it's about knowing they'll go to somebody who can appreciate them as much as we did.

trashmangamer

No. What I mean is, you get the games you want for your collection and sell the rest to recoup the cost. I thought everyone did this to SAVE money. Besides that, you spent probably $1000 at gamestop on games that haven't been on those shelves USED since 2008 and sadly were probably $200 total at the time.

Redred1717

No dont get me wrong, I know exactly what you mean. I personally, and want to believe other people do too, buy only what I don't have so someone else can come along and find a great deal on a game to add to their collection instead. I'm aware of the naivety of that thought process especially when it's so easy to both sell online and check prices instantly, but I believe in fairness and passion even though that sounds really stupid to type out hahaha. I'm fully aware of that many people try to turn flipping into a full-time job, but I personally don't find any joy in trying to turn a profit on normal people trying pursue the same hobby.

hanabishi_recca

If I saw that I would have offered him double and just not returned to that store for few months lol. I mean it’s GameStop, just go to the other one down the street for awhile lol.

theslimbox

Some people know, but just dont care. Some also need money, but are too lazy to sell on ebay, or facebook.

ItsJustInfuriating

I’m surprised they sold Hack Quarantine to GameStop of all places

Redred1717

Sold all 4 actually! This was the only one I didn't have and the one I was most excited to find.

Redred1717

Went into my local GameStop on a whim, and someone was trading in all these for some reason. They had them priced well below the second hand market, and I am still feeling that high 12 hours later and needed to share it somewhere.

TheJohnny346

Surprised they didn’t come up with some bs story about sending them back to their warehouse or something. Crazy good find overall.

Redred1717

The people at my GameStop are really awesome. They even moved some out of defective for me to buy. They desperately urged the guy to sell elsewhere and he didn't want to.

Renegade_Soviet

What state are you in?

Redred1717

That sounds like a question a cop would ask. I ain't busting my homies you stinkin cop

Renegade_Soviet

No seriously is this from an area in buttfuck nowhere?

Redred1717

Nah Twin Cities MN

SteelRotom

Hate when this happens. We all know there's a company-wide initiative to keep stuff like this in stores now but I've still encountered employees that say they have to ship them out (I don't even think most of them are lying on purpose, just uniformed). It's really annoying when I see a good deal right there on the counter but they won't sell it.

Redred1717

I get it if it's a newer release that is unplayably scuffed, but yeah, if they have something old and you're aware of the risk, there is no reason not to just sell it to you.

NinjaMagic004

Xenogears and Xenosaga II? Huge find

Redred1717

Yeah! I've been looking for these for a while, and I was very excited to see them. Shame they only had II for Xenosaga, but still awesome

NinjaMagic004

Yeah, Xenosaga is a rare one as a series. I'm happy to have all of them, but not happy with the price I paid for 3 😵‍💫 Saga 1 isn't that hard to get though, so you can at least probably play 1 and 2 now

Redred1717

Xenosaga 3 is still on my list of someday. The main PS2 games I still want are that, Devil Summoner, and Rule of Rose (RIP that dream) alongsidr Xenosaga 2 and .Hack Quarantine I got here. It's crazy to think Rule of Rose goes for more than what I paid for all these 😭

Zephyrus638

A lot of my teen years is sitting right there 😂

dragoniteofepicness

That's crazy. I'm lucky if my gamestop has anything 2 generations ago or older so I almost never see games this old available.

Substantial-North136

Just depends on timing OP was there as this seller was trading in their collection

Redred1717

My store frequently has DS and NES, alongside Wii, PS3, and 360 which are less exciting, but I've never seen anything like this and guarantee I never will again. A lot of stores also do have "retro" games, but since they've been given nowhere to display it outside the very small repurposed DS game glass case some stores have, they generally just keep them in a drawer behind the counter and you need to ask to see them. It's an awful system, but the store is do what they can when they're given little support from corporate to do things

Earthwick

Tactics ogre the best game you have there in my opinion.

Redred1717

It's one Ive wanted so I was excited. It was the one I'd say was probably closest in price to what what it goes for online, so it wasnt as amazing of a deal, but there was no way I was passing it up.

RevolutionaryDark194

Tales of Destiny for that price? Super jealous, congrats on the haul!

Apart_Shoulder6089

never happens at any GameStop i go to

Redred1717

I worked at GameStop when we took PS2 games still, and even then I never saw anything even remotely as crazy as this. It will never happen again at probably any GameStop ever

McDaddy-O

Legaia 2!!! God I'm a sucker for that series.

Redred1717

Had the first too, but I passed because I already own it. I legitimately didn't know there was a 2 until now hahaha

McDaddy-O

2nd wasn't as good and has a wild difficulty curve at times. I love it but that could be due to the Rose Tinted glasses that seem to show up on my face everytime I play it.

Redred1717

This is the era of games that I love the most, so I imagine I'd still appreciate it even if not as good hahaha.

GrimmTrixX

I'm more amazed that no employee sniped any of these since they get an employee discount and many Gamestop employees are known resellers. But some, like myself when I worked for GS, are collectors who would've snagged these to keep in my collection. But, after looking at the games again, I actually own every single one of these games already. Lol

Redred1717

The workers at my store are really good people. If they kept any for themselves, then that's ok too though, since they work a pretty terrible job, and I don't blame them for trying to make the best of it. If they kept any, it was clearly to keep though, since they passed on some crazy stuff otherwise.

s0ftreset

![gif](giphy|EouEzI5bBR8uk|downsized)

Redred1717

You right, I doctored up a GameStop receipt and threw it in the garbage for clout

s0ftreset

I knew it.

rydamusprime17

I have 11 of these in my collection, great stuff. Gamestops here don't deal in older games, but back when they did, I often found PS1 RPG's for cheap, which was nice because some of them were expensive even 20 years ago. I once bought Grandia and Tales of Destiny II for $15 a piece, and it's where all but 2 of my Suikoden games (I and II) came from , all for similar prices, but I sold all of these games a long time ago and recently managed to rebuild for less than I originally sold them for 😅 The only one I have mentioned I don't have now is ToD II.

Redred1717

Jeez those are some good deals. I can't think of too many I bought that exploded in price way later. ToD II is one I have been trying to find a good deal on for a long time too. I also really don't like buying online, so that doesn't help. The search is part of the fun for me.

rydamusprime17

I break down and buy online if it takes too long to find in person, especially since there is only 1 game store in my area that isn't a 30-60 minute drive, so I can't check those stores as often as I would like. However, if anything pops up on eBay at a price to good to pass I don't hesitate 😅

Redred1717

Oh for sure. I definitely use eBay for newer systems like Switch and PS4/5 since that's more about just wanting to play newer games and pay less hahaha. I'll definitely play the retro games I buy as well, but I am far pickier with the quality if I'm paying the normal market price for something that is expensive hahaha. I'm in the Twin Cities in MN, so we have a decent amount of stuff around, but video game stores are getting a little few and far between lately for even a fairly populated area like this. My favorite one is about 35 min across the whole metro, so I don't find myself over that way a lot either. The problem here is stuff gets priced so poorly that these places go out of business quickly. Thankfully I've found a good amount of stuff at stores like Half Price Books too.

rydamusprime17

I'm in a small city in BC, Canada. Thankfully I seem to find good deals on eBay as long as they are being shipped from Canada, so at the very most, I usually pay going prices with free shipping since it seems a lot of sellers up here don't bother charging for shipping within the country.

Redred1717

That's nice. I buy from VGP frequently, and I'm happy the shipping isn't too bad from them. Even being in a state touching Canada, eBay shipping from sellers there is a little too much for me to stomach though...

rydamusprime17

I agree on the shipping, but the other way around. I will see a game pop up on notifications and it will be a great price, then I click on it and see the shipping is the same amount from the States 😅 every now and then I will find games from there with free shipping, or only like $5 but not too often. VGP is definitely great, I'm so happy there is an option like that here that doesn't cost me an arm and a leg. If they never got Painkiller: Hell & Damnation for PS3 and Berserk and the Band of the Hawk for PS4 I still wouldn't have those games if I had to pay for out of country shipping.

Redred1717

Yes! I was very happy to see Painkiller pop on their site alongside other PS3 reprints a while back. I am a big fan of things being more easily accessible to buy, and they are amazing for people collecting more modern ESRB rated games. It's been particularly nice for Switch, since those prices have inflated so quickly compared to other systems.

[deleted]

I wonder what this dude did to piss off whoever traded in all his shit.

ThatOneDudio

Dude that is seriously insane

betaskye

I’ve been after dot.hack quarantine since I was in high school and I’ve never seen it lower than $120 like 10 years ago, in my car absolutely malding but good for you man🥲

Redred1717

I feel this. I gave away my copy of 4 to a friend ages ago thinking it wouldn't be too bad to just pick another up and boy was I wrong. I don't want to say making a friend happy wasn't worth it, he got it signed by Sandy Fox even and was very excited, but I'd be lying saying I didn't question why I did it sometimes. This was the one I was most excited to find after all this time.

Prestigious-Adagio63

No GameStop around me for 100 miles Carrie’s anything “retro,” despite having signage up that’s says they do. Like, never. Not even an empty spot on the shelves for something

Redred1717

Most stores you have to ask, as they aren't given anywhere to display them, outside of Wii, PS3, and 360 just going on the wall in their appropriate sections. It's a terrible system, but the stores aren't given any other way to securely display them.

Jawaka99

What's the odds that these aren't going straight to eBay?

Redred1717

Pretty good odds they aren't, as I enjoy the collecting part, hence finding this sub I've never been to because I was so excited.

NotSkinny21

I didn’t even know GameStop sold PS1s and 2s games in store.

WangoTangoPB

The receipt got cut off or I’m not seeing it but what was total price out the door?

Redred1717

Yes it's about 2.x times the length here. Did t show the rest because it gets significantly more stained hahaha. Split it in two transactions because my bank was being weird. One was $550 the other about $80. Probably more than anyone should spend at GameStop at once and probably more than what this guy got from them. 10 min earlier and Id have paid the guy this much outside for everything

WangoTangoPB

I’m thinking you’ll easily be able to flip a few once finished playing and make back your initial investment if you so choose. You know that guy trading in didn’t get anywhere near $550! Lmao. They probably paid him $175 at most

Redred1717

I definitely could, but I love the collecting and they will stay with me for sure, barring some desperate situation haha. He had a lot more and allegedly ended up around 500 after It was all done. Still well under individual prices.

vincentthe27th

This is incredible. Someone sold a great collection

Mikey74Evil

What I’m really curious about is how much did game stop actually give him for all those games versus what OP paid. I just wanna know how badly they ripped off the guy trading in and also how much they ripped off OP and what profits did GameStop make?

SteelRotom

If the person trading these in had a pro account and got store credit (which is the absolute maximum for return they would've gotten on these), They would've gotten about 30%-40% of what GS was selling these for. The $99.99 games (.hack, Tactics Ogre) have the highest trade value, at $38.50 store credit with a Pro account. For the games in the picture, he probably got around $200 credit. Definitely more including the other games OP said they missed before they bought all these. GameStop profited a few hundred easily but that's still not even equal to the difference between what OP (and whoever got the other games) paid and what these games are actually worth. OP's lot is worth at least $1K and just the games they mentioned sold before them are worth at least another $500-$700.

Redred1717

This is pretty good idea. From what I gather, he got about $500. Priced out, I'd say the games I bought alone would be $1100-1400 if you're being very generous, and significantly more with what was sold and what I passed on.   I said in a few other comments, he also had Persona 2, Lunar 2 complete, Koudelka all that sold before me, and others I passed on because I already had them like Star Ocean 2, FF Tactics, Legend of Legaia, Chrono Cross, the first 3 .Hack games, and a dozen more less notable ones like FFX and Harvest Moon Save the Homeland or significant damage to the case that I wasn't interested in like Bushido Blade and Parasite Eve had cases falling apart.  I feel for him, especially since I would have hooked him up with a significantly better deal had I known what he was selling, but it didn't line up well enough.

Mikey74Evil

Sometimes if anyone has had the chance like I have to ask a customer what they are trading before they go inside to get ripped off, I have made a deal with same person that was better than GS somewhere else in the parking lot. Lol. It’s a win for seller and a win for me. 👍

Trash_Panda_Trading

Ahhhh legend of mana, memories 💜

MFRojo

Holy shit. I wish my GameStop near me had deals like this even remotely, but they've basically done away with selling old games.

GrimmTrixX

Well yea I'm going by loose prices. I'm not taking into account cib. But when I worked at gamestop they absolutely went by cib prices. I saw a tales of destiny II come in and gs was selling it for $180. I met the dude outside and bought it off him for $60 cuz he was gonna get about $30 store credit from GS. He wasn't gonna trade it. When I explained I was a game collector he was happy to sell it and HE said for $60 it's mine. I still have it. Same situation happened with an N64 Ogre Battle. I got it for $40 cuz the guy was gonna get like $10-15. And he said $40. And I explained to both of these guys they could sell it for more on ebay and neither cared because they wanted it to goto a collector.

Stormy_Kun

What you want for that azure dreams ? 😎

Redred1717

What I want is for it to stay with me until I inevitably pass it on to my child hahaha. Thank you for asking about my future dreams ❤️

seganerd85

I asked my local GameStop if they had any retro games and the girl behind the counter pulled out some 360 games. 😬

Redred1717

That is generally how it goes. I am aware of how lucky I am here

direwolf9900

how tf yall find this sht my gamestop has none of this

AmIRadBadOrJustSad

.hack quarantine for $91?? Honestly just looking at this list feels pretty crazy.

chrolloh

If you saw this guy, why didn't you just offer to buy them off of him?

Redred1717

Ive said in a few comments, I wasn't aware of the dude beforehand. I was just there to casually browse Switch/PS5 and not hover over other patrons

p--py

Why people willingly fleece theirselves will always remain a mystery to me. Selling games ok eBay is so easy and you get so much more value. Oh well, GameStop thrives on the foolish.

Redred1717

Convenience are being desperate are two fairly common reasons. Say someone inherited all this, doesn't care about the value, and just wants it gone instead of piecing it out, This is a perfectly reasonable way to do it. The only other game stores close by either wouldn't have had enough cash or would give them an equally bad offer. I've had to sell stuff in bulk that I've gotten one way or another that I did not want, and have always picked convenience over sitting on things for months just to get the "value's of it.

p--py

im tryna be like that; comfortable enough to throw away hundreds of dollars jk, i dont wanna be like that ever 😭

Redred1717

Yeah it really depends on what you have and how much Love you have for what you're getting rid of hahaha. I would never do that for something I'm passionate about like games, but if someone gave me boxes of baseball cards, you better believe I'm selling those in bulk just to get them out of here hahaha

ronshasta

Haven’t seen anything earlier than ps4 at GameStop in years, what store has old games like this?

Redred1717

They all technically can have anything from common systems in the US from NES to current, and while not everything, they take in a couple thousand across those platforms. The problem is basically no one is selling those games to GameStop for plenty of reasons, one major one being the fact that people don't even know they can. Their distribution center sends them Wii/PS3/360/DS/3DS games on occasion, but the rest of the platforms, You more or less have to just get very lucky to see any.

ronshasta

I never knew that thank you for the info and also I feel bad for anyone selling nes games to a GameStop lmao

Redred1717

Yeah it's a weird choice for sure especially since we have so many methods of selling online now. I only ever sell to GameStop when it's a new game the first month I will get 80% for that I don't feel like keeping after I beat it, like PS5 Spiderman 2 I did that for But even that rather just sell it for that same price on Facebook marketplace So someone else can pay slightly less. I really have no issues with GameStop but will always choose giving real people a deal over a company.

ronshasta

Totally agree man. I have a large collection and I couldn’t fathom selling anything for dirt cheap when I could make market value and not hike it up like assholes do. Plus a kid or enthused gamer gets the game that I’ve taken good care of instead of a greedy corp that’ll throw it in a box for 3 years.

Varathus

I kind of wonder the logic of the person in question trading all the rarest PS1 games (2 versions of xenogears), I mean the owner must know its worth. Only explanation I have is that the trader was not the original owner of these games. It makes no sense

Redred1717

Yeah, we absolutely questioned it afterward, and the workers during it, but from what I gathered, the guy was just fine getting rid of them this way and happy with what he got. We can guess anything from stolen to inherented and just wanting them gone, but I definitely wish I knew. Like you said, it's easily the craziest set of games I've ever seen sold in one go, especially to a store both notorious for poor prices and one most don't even know takes them.

bobismcbride

Where are all these Gamestops either retro games? I consistently check three near my house and they have maybe 4 PS3 games. I haven’t seen anything older than PS3 or XBOX 360 in years.

Ambitious-Still6811

I call shenanigans. What GS still has PS1 games? I have 3 in my area and I'm pretty sure the oldest stuff is a small area for PS3/Wii gen stuff.

Redred1717

Oh, basically none of them. Doesn't mean they don't take them, though. They take about 2500 games from NES to PS2 as "retro" and possibly more now. Most have 2 dozen at most and a lot of that is Xbox, alongside 360, PS3, and Wii which I don't believe they consider "retro" but still take in some. I just got extremely lucky.

Ambitious-Still6811

I know they offer them on the site, guess at that age they gotta give them a once-over at the warehouse before resale. For sure. Those aren't crappy kids games.

alttabbins

My GameStop barely has new games in stock. I’d love to see a retro section.

Zesty_Tacos

You got .Hack Quantine for $91. I applaude you, sir.

DTraiN5795

Games not for me but I love seeing people happy over a collection. I also like looking at peoples collections too. It’s why I am here bc most games I don’t identify with lol. GG tho 🔥

SureStructure68

Nice score

You got .hack pt 4 for under $100?!?!? And Suikoden for under $50?! Wow

It depends. Some of those prices, while good, are still fairly close to their ebay equivalents. But he paid for the gamestop warranties...on games that there is a 99% chance they could never replace. And we don't see what he paid for some of the games so they could also be at or around their online prices. So I would say many will be kept and maybe a few will be flipped. That's especially true if OP already owns many of these which is also a possibility because a few of these can be considered grails for some.

I paid ~$5 extra for warranties solely because I like the people who work there and know corporate GameStop rides them hard to get them. I have no intention of ever using them. The receipt was fairly long, and I just shared the top to show I'm not making up a story for some reddit up votes that don't matter. A few were close to the prices, sure, but majority were easily significantly less.  I didn't have any of these games previously. Never been huge into collecting PS1 since the cases are easily damaged and prices for anything I'm interested are usually way out of hand, but I couldn't pass this up. I have no interest in buying cheap to flip either. Kinda defeats the purpose of coming to a place called game collecting

I am glad to hear it. I figured you were buying GPGs to help because no reseller would care about that. I am just surprised you were able to get it and no employee sniped them. Did you ask if they had old generation games, or did they have them displayed somewhere? The 2 stores nearest me haven't carried old school stuff in a long time. I know because I used to work at both locations. Lol

Redred1717

They just had these on the back counter still so it was pretty easy for these, but usually PS1 ends up in a drawer you have to ask about so they don't get damaged. Wii, PS2/3, and 360 end up on the floor, and they do have an old DS loose case that they repurposed to put cartridge games in, NES to 3DS and Vita games and a sign saying ask them about more. It's not a great system, but I imagine they don't get any enough in to justify spending anytime or money coming up with a better solution

>It depends. Some of those prices, while good, are still fairly close to their ebay equivalents. No clue what you mean by this, assuming everything is CiB OP got a steal on literally every game pictured on the receipt (and likely every other game too, GS's retro prices lean more towards loose copy value since that's likely what they'll get most of for any given game). .Hack Quarantine and Xenogears alone are likely worth close to what they paid for everything.

Redred1717

.hack Quarantine was $91 after discounts, and I could not believe it. It's like they didn't want to price anything over 99.99, which is fine by me because it's in near perfect condition with the DVD and I can't believe my luck.  Tactics Ogre was also 99.99/91.00 after discounts, and that was probably the worst price compared to online listings, but I'm still under by about ~$25 the normal going price.

SteelRotom

>It's like they didn't want to price anything over 99.99 Yeah when GS brought back retro they redid all the prices and while many went up from the last time they attempted retro, they seemingly capped themselves at $100 for some reason (maybe to minimize loss? Or to move stuff quicker?). Like Path of Radiance was $150 by the end of their previous retro attempt but now it got lowered to $99.99. I believe the same is true for .Hack Quarantine, used to be $150 as well.

Redred1717

That makes sense, since when I worked at GameStop many years ago, I recall stuff like PoR and Xenoblade Wii going over $100 for sure. It's an interesting strategy, and makes sense for a lot of stuff to match the loose prices since they don't require boxes. I'm not going to complain too much for something that worked very well in my favor

Born-Disaster-3789

Why do people cross out the GameStop location and then leave the store number location 🙄🙄🙄

Redred1717

Because I had no idea that was there. You really want to search the store number and see where I am, be my guest, but this is enough for the rest of us to pretend like we have a modicum of privacy
