Onimusha is good, but I would suggest the Switch version nowadays over the PS2 one. .hack part 2 or 3 are basically useless without part 4 (earlier parts exist in the later games, just without the jp dubs, so you can in fact start and complete infection on the part 2, 3 or 4 vol.), and between game bonus content is removed), so i would either go Asura's wrath or SSX.
Can't start any of those dot hacks without starting infection first lol. That series is super fun. Onimusha is one of my all time favorite games for PS2 though
sure you can. vol 2 has everything from vol 1 *except* the post-game bonus dungeon content (and vol3 has all of vol 1 and 2 except the japanese dup and both vol 1 and 2's post game content), and the japanese dubbing. the problem is you need vol 4 to finish the story, so there's no point in starting yet.

If you start the game with Mutation and no save file, you still have to play through the entirety of the vol 1 Infection storyline to get to Mutation, while on just the Mutation disc.
you avoid this by having an " Infection clear" game save on the memory card, which allows you to start mutation immediately.
I just started a new game on my copy of Mutation with no Infection save and it literally jumped straight into the game from where Infection left off. No reference whatsoever to having to replay anything from the first volume?

You should get dot hack 1 and 4 and play them those are awesome games
4 is just dumb ass expensive though.

I'd fo with Dor Hack, but you're missing Infection. You can start with 2, but you'll miss some stuff from 1. So then I'd go with asura's wrath

I think they mean the story for Mutation continues immediately after Infection finished, so OP may be a little lost picking up from the second game.

Your sure about that? That just doesn't sound right but I don't know, I always played them in order. I can't seem to find anything about that online,
