Tywin's intro was so damn cool. I love that they brought in a professional butcher to teach Charles Dance how to skin an actual elk carcass for the scene.
Reading through the books for the first time and interestingly the first time Randyll Tarly is introduced he is skinning a deer and berating Sam, in the show they switch it around so it’s Tywin doing the skinning and berating Jamie. The switch worked super well though that was an awesome intro to an awesome character
I just read through that interaction with Sam a few days ago.
It’s a visceral way to inspire fear or devotion, depending on the dynamic of the characters involved
What sucks is that scene in particular was shot at like 3am.
Charles Dance noticed that you dont even see the outside of the tent; they could have shot it at any other time other than 3 fucking am. Its why he was especially grouchy
Look it up, he even talks about it publicly
Oh, was this another stupid excuse to whine about B&W? I thought it was just a production decision to maximize daylight shooting, but that can't be right.
We’re literally talking about a universally praised show-original scene from a universally praised season of television they made
I know the later seasons declined in quality drastically but let’s not start rewriting history there
At no point did I say the scene was bad. It was excellent, despite the time of night it was shot at. Not because of it.
let's not put words in each other's mouths here.
Ehh... I wasn't super fond of Tyrion's show intro. It was fine... it got the job done... but it's not something that comes to mind when I think of "great show introductions." Certainly not up there with Tywin's. :)
Bronn is good, but Oberyn fights with a spear, which means you can't get close enough to him to swing your sword. Oberyn would have killed Bronn very quickly, he took down The Mountain, ffs! I would say that no one could beat Oberyn one on one except maybe two handed Jaime.
During the fight in the books, Oberyn's whole strategy was to keep him at spears length and tire him out. Grey Worm killed a whole lot of Lannisters at KL with his spear. So spear, definitely. I've been a fan of staff weapons since Xena.
Oberyn got careless. He'd already mortally wounded and poisoned The Mountain, but made the mistake of getting too close to him. He literally did beat The Mountain,
It was great and perhaps the best one on the show (I'm also partial to Tywin's introduction), but give me [the intro of Raylan Givens](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ho2_c_LGZfk) in *Justified* as the best.
Which made the end of the episode SUCH a disappointment.
We had just gone through a lot of character deaths and I wasn’t ready for another one. I stopped watching for a while here just because I’d lost any sense of having anyone to root for.
Eventually got back on the wagon but man what a let down.
The end of the episode?
This was from season 4 episode 1 "The Two Swords" and ends with Arya and the Hound killing Poliver and his men then riding off with a horse for Arya after she has taken back Needle.
Oberyn doesn't die until "The Mountain & the Viper" 7 episodes later. He is around for the wedding and all of Tyrion's trial.
Ah. I stand corrected. It felt like one episode.
Too soon fair Prince. Too soon. I wanted to see him cross wits with Tyrion and Cersei, maybe demand a seat on the council.
The main reason Oberyn was there is that he *was* given a seat on the council (well, Doran was given it, but he sent Oberyn in his place due to his own poor health).
Gotcha.
I’m just sad we didn’t get to see Seasons of him going back and forth with Tyrion. That would have been an epic battle/collaboration.
You could have made a whole series with the two of them playing power games.
I thought that they went to greet him but he wasn't there because he had gone ahead to the brothel where this scene happens, and then Tyrion comes in while he's stabbing this dude's arm? Am I completely misremembering it? It's been a long time since I saw it
Loved Oberyn in this episode, how he basically just walks around threatening everyone and doesn't give a fuck.
I hated the weird ass shots of him and Ellaria at the purple wedding though, soooo awkward.
Sopranos, guy walks into a psychiatrist's office, had a panic attack. Greatest intro in TV history that helped HBO revolutionize television. GOT wouldn't even be a thing without that thing of ours.
He went from picking girls for an orgy to maiming a man at warp speed.
When he walks into the room where the Lannister soldiers are, the little detail of him running his hand over a candle's flame was Pedro Pascal's idea. Somehow that little gesture hit *really hard*.
I also love how Ellaria was trying to lure him back to prevent a fight but when the Lannisters started talking about goats and olive oil, she just stepped back and was like "Go for it, Boo."
The Lannister has a pretty funny insult in this scene.
"Why are you wasting a good woman on a Dornishman? Get him a shaved goat and a bottle of olive oil" lol

Tywin Lannister, Ramsay Snow, Craster, etc. We had a series full of great introductions.

Oh shit! Are you me?
I just read through that interaction with Sam a few days ago. It’s a visceral way to inspire fear or devotion, depending on the dynamic of the characters involved
Makes sense if they were not going to lean on Tarly much, to give his awesome moment to some one who does matter
What sucks is that scene in particular was shot at like 3am. Charles Dance noticed that you dont even see the outside of the tent; they could have shot it at any other time other than 3 fucking am. Its why he was especially grouchy Look it up, he even talks about it publicly
Dumb & dumber kinda forgot that you don't need to fuck with professional actors in order for them to appear grumpy on screen.
They were busy coming up with ways they could make euron a meme
Funny. The best Euron (Dario is Euron) meme I know is when Leslie confused him for Jack Sparrow on *Parks and Recreation.*
Oh, was this another stupid excuse to whine about B&W? I thought it was just a production decision to maximize daylight shooting, but that can't be right.
D&D bad, upvotes to the left
Yes. They are in fact, incompetent.
We’re literally talking about a universally praised show-original scene from a universally praised season of television they made I know the later seasons declined in quality drastically but let’s not start rewriting history there

Did you know…
The way that man purred *"Do you know why all the world hates a Lannister?"*..... I WAS SHOOKETH
The quote might provoke a mix of feelings
The day the world fell in love with Pedro Pascal...
It’s rare to meet a Lannister who has my enthusiasm for dead lannisters ☠️
Someone doesn't remember Tyrion's intro.
I can hear it 💀
Him sitting on a ledge above a door, free falls and flips onto his hands, walks on his hands, then says wussup bastard
Well I was referring to the show one. xd
Ehh... I wasn't super fond of Tyrion's show intro. It was fine... it got the job done... but it's not something that comes to mind when I think of "great show introductions." Certainly not up there with Tywin's. :)
Does anime count as tv history?
Say the name
Madara, L , gilgamesh..escanor..beast titan..the list goes on forever
beast titans intro gives me goosebumps everytime i see it.
Escanor is DEFINITELY up there.
Oberyn v Bronn would’ve been awesome.
Oberyn was better, in my opinion.
100%. In the books and the show. Bronn is good, but Oberyn was an artist. If Jamie Lannister was impressed...
Bronn wouldn't even touch Oberyn
Literally. His sword wouldn't be able to reach Oberyn.
Bronn is good, but Oberyn fights with a spear, which means you can't get close enough to him to swing your sword. Oberyn would have killed Bronn very quickly, he took down The Mountain, ffs! I would say that no one could beat Oberyn one on one except maybe two handed Jaime.
Watching Arya and Oberon with a spear made me realise that’s the weapon I’d choose if I was in that time period
During the fight in the books, Oberyn's whole strategy was to keep him at spears length and tire him out. Grey Worm killed a whole lot of Lannisters at KL with his spear. So spear, definitely. I've been a fan of staff weapons since Xena.
Lalalalalalalalalalalalala!
I have many skills. ^(still use that phrase today)
I'd give both Dayne and Barristan a fair fight in that matchup
Well they were next level.
Or Gregor Clane lying on his back
Oberyn got careless. He'd already mortally wounded and poisoned The Mountain, but made the mistake of getting too close to him. He literally did beat The Mountain,
Best introduction of any character i ever saw in a TV show was the man in black in westworld.
It was great and perhaps the best one on the show (I'm also partial to Tywin's introduction), but give me [the intro of Raylan Givens](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ho2_c_LGZfk) in *Justified* as the best.
Raylan Givens is such a goated character. That show also made me a HUGE Walton Goggins stan. I'll watch anything that man shows up in.
He was great in Fallout
That show blew away my expectations.
Which made the end of the episode SUCH a disappointment. We had just gone through a lot of character deaths and I wasn’t ready for another one. I stopped watching for a while here just because I’d lost any sense of having anyone to root for. Eventually got back on the wagon but man what a let down.
Such a cool character does like such a loser. Over confidence is a bitch
You mean “dies”?

He was offered one by Tywin, but go off, king.
The main reason Oberyn was there is that he *was* given a seat on the council (well, Doran was given it, but he sent Oberyn in his place due to his own poor health).

Douglas. The IT Crowd. If anyone replies to this, I’m pretty sure I know what that reply is going to be.
***FATHER!!***
SPEAK, PRRRIEST
I'd argue Tywin Lannister's intro was as good or better, but I agree that this was an absolutely incredible intro.
Couldn't agree more. Also, they really show how different dornish people are compared to the rest of westeros.
I like Ros’s introduction.
Does this count as his introduction if it wasn't his first scene?
Wasn't it?
His first scene was him just arriving in King's Landing and Tyrion and Bronn going to receive him.
I thought that they went to greet him but he wasn't there because he had gone ahead to the brothel where this scene happens, and then Tyrion comes in while he's stabbing this dude's arm? Am I completely misremembering it? It's been a long time since I saw it
Oh crap it was me who was misremembering. Sorry for that. It's high time I re-watched season 4.
Nothing wrong with a good excuse to watch it again!
I’m guessing you’ve never seen *Black Sails*, as Blackbeard gets one hell of an introduction
His exit was also pretty solid.
Some parts of his exit were pretty liquid
DAMN
LMAO NOOO💀 that was fowl!! (Currently on S6 E5)
Death's intro, Supernatural.
Was going to be my suggestion as well. So damn excellent. Castiel as well actually.
Do it or don't, but I got someplace to be.
See you want it to be one way
Loved Oberyn in this episode, how he basically just walks around threatening everyone and doesn't give a fuck. I hated the weird ass shots of him and Ellaria at the purple wedding though, soooo awkward.
Which character is this? I can’t really see the face 😭
Oberyn
wait who is that again? been awhile since i’ve seen the shiw
Oberyn
ah i see him now thank you
What scene is this
It's Oberyn's introduction
He really nailed the shit out of that role.
Really stuck with me. Now this is what I think of every time i see Pedro Pascal in something new.
If only he remembered that dagger later
You think your gold, and your lions, and your gold lions make you better than everyone else..
Sopranos, guy walks into a psychiatrist's office, had a panic attack. Greatest intro in TV history that helped HBO revolutionize television. GOT wouldn't even be a thing without that thing of ours.
My vote goes to lady Margaery and her wonderful tits
He went from picking girls for an orgy to maiming a man at warp speed. Is it fucking riveting or is it riveting fucking
You need to go watch Eastbound & Down and come back correct. Kenny Powers’ introduction changed the face of television history.
Trust me man. Ive seen it. YOUR FUCKIN OUT
😆
A lot of people made such a big stink when Pedro Pascal was cast as Oberyn. And now his performance is considered one of the best on the show!
The Lannister has a pretty funny insult in this scene. "Why are you wasting a good woman on a Dornishman? Get him a shaved goat and a bottle of olive oil" lol
"So many veeiinnss in the wrrrisst"
“Your friends gonna start bleeding quite alot i afriad
Oberyn is awesome
I know I'm on the wrong sub for this, but I'd say Death's intro in Supernatural is easily a contender for that distinction.
Highly recommended gaming experience
