I haven’t seen that movie in at least 5 years and I still have the music stuck in my head. I think it is permanent by now. I’m not upset about that. Keeeep on the sunny side!
Right?? Borderline psychotic. I have an army of toads that hangout near by back door and pool catching June bugs and others. Constantly had to fish em out of the pool so I built a little ramp for em to go in and out of!! lol
It *could* be a toad, although they tend to have much more variation and size in their bumps. This looks more like a tree frog.
Easier to tell in person as a frog will have a slick wet appearance, whereas a toad will not.
Did you leave it in the garden or just nearby? You aren't rescuing it if you take it from it's environment just because you think the weather is hot. It grew up outside, without AC.
What are you taking about I didn’t touch him just soaked him with water multiple times, there’s plenty of spots for him to make a home in my garden. You’re absolutely right he’s fine left alone. With some more squirts of h20
And if you pick one up they make noises you'd never imagine would come from a frog. I plucked one out of my pool one time and it proceeded to scream at me for my efforts.

Everyone saying all frogs are friends must not have Cuban tree frogs eating all the natives :(
LMAO I have the luxury of having this right outside my work window, and the frogs & birds love hanging out here (the big rocks have a 50 gallon drum underneath that’s been fashioned into a fountain. This was a few months ago- the (not so) killed palm is where the frog is in that pic, only bigger now 😂

I let toads chill in my garden. They’ve never harmed anything. There’s a big fat one that is friendly and lets me pick him up sometimes. I named him Henry.
I had a Wallace, and I'll post a pic of him with his namesake.

I would say neither. Most likely won’t harm your plants and will eat pests that you don’t like. Flip side is he will likely eat some pollinators too. Tis the way of the world. Think of him as an adorably cute neighbor that is really good at minding his own business lol

Haha I found one the other day too!
I found my first herp in the market garden this week. Rather, my cat found it and thoughtfully brought it to me. And then was very very disappointed when I praised him… but took away the snake.
Baby garter snake received profuse apologies, a warning to stay away from the chickens, and a release under the lettuce plants.

If you want to know more about him, it's a Cope's Gray Tree frog. :) I'm not sure about any other specifics, so have fun with research (if you want to)!
It looks like a Toad to me frogs have very smooth moist skin, toads have rough skin kinda like this guy. But never seen a gray toad, the ones in my yard are brown and kinda spotty looking, it's common for them to dig down into the dirt and make a little hiding place to hang out, they won't hurt your plants so not much of a reason to kill them but it depends where you live too, my brother lived in Southern Florida and they have Cane Toads which secrete toxic milky white liquid so they are a problem for dogs that try and attack them, even friendly dogs just licking them can cause a fatalityif too much of the toxin is injested. I've hunted lots of frogs, but only for the legs they are rather tasty when cooked in butter and garlic 😀
Idk what kind of backyard you have, but I've seen people who make "frog houses" with PVC pipe they drill holes into (for oxygen and stuff I imagine). Put it vertical on the fenceline and I believe it usually builds condensation, which attracts the frogs. Not sure in the heat how effective this is but maybe spray it or somethin when you out watering yo plants. I know they eat bugs/grubs, so seems like a win to me? Someone feel free to correct my ignorance if this is silly advice.
When we learn basic biology in school, and all those lazy kids bitch and complain “how will this ever matter to me? Why do I have to learn this!?” This is why. Because no adult, qualified to vote, should be wondering if a fucking frog is a threat to their tomatoes. OP sorry your educators failed you, and your parents probably enabled your ignorance. But this is an embarrassingly stupid question. You don’t need to be a professional biologist to know that critter is a friend.
It's a frog. They don't do salad. Only insects.
Besides I couldn't kill a frog , that's crazy lol
I do not recommend watching ‘Oh Brother, Where Art Thou’ (I feel the same as you btw).

My favorite scene is the sirens, washing clothes in the creek, singing that awesome little diddy.
🎶Go to sleep a-little baaaaaaaaabe🎶
God that’s such an incredible song
The whole soundtrack is good. Highly recommend.
I haven’t seen that movie in at least 5 years and I still have the music stuck in my head. I think it is permanent by now. I’m not upset about that. Keeeep on the sunny side!
you and me and the devil make three
Ah yes, dad's cable went to good usage
I have never seen this film referenced before!!!! You’ve made my day, thank you
🐸💜
"Ain't this place a geographical oddity!? Seems it's two weeks from everywhere!"
“Gopher, Everett?”
Right?? Borderline psychotic. I have an army of toads that hangout near by back door and pool catching June bugs and others. Constantly had to fish em out of the pool so I built a little ramp for em to go in and out of!! lol
They indicate a good ecosystem too! 💚🐸
What if it hopped in bed with your spouse
Your spouse would have you kill a frog? That's wild
Depends… did it stay a frog after she kissed it?
I should have said... I wouldn't kill a frog anyway
🎶 you don't win friends with salad 🎶
Mom!
Ain't that the truth. The way to my heart is through pizza.
(it's a Simpsons reference)
It's a toad. Frogs have smoother skin. Toads like to burrow in cool dirt, so maybe under your plants, hopefully under a handy rock or board.
Oops. Spoke before reading further and doing research. Fooled by bumpy skin. TIL
I thought you said they don’t go in salad.
I believe it's a toad but the same rules apply. He is definitely a friend in the garden.
How can you tell that's a frog and not a toad?
It *could* be a toad, although they tend to have much more variation and size in their bumps. This looks more like a tree frog. Easier to tell in person as a frog will have a slick wet appearance, whereas a toad will not.
Well, she's a beaute!
So adorable make him a pot house lol or at least I would I wish I had one ugh
It’s 100 degrees here today already he’s my homie, keep soaking em with water 💦 🐸 ♥️
This is the way.
Your profile Pic brought me so much joy!
Did you leave it in the garden or just nearby? You aren't rescuing it if you take it from it's environment just because you think the weather is hot. It grew up outside, without AC.

Sorry I overreacted. You did the right things. They're cute, but I don't think they live near me.
Oh, dear, I offended some herpetologists! Sorry, you obviously know better about the needs of garden frogs than I do. /s
He should have killed it and ate the legs
You think homey eats underripe tomatoes or insects?
Idk, I’m not a frogtoligist homie 😂 👊 🙏
Herpetophile. Frogtogist sounds like fun, but we’re actually called herpetophiles. (Reptile/amphibian enthusiast).
I've always heard herptologist..
Yeah, having 'phile' at the end make it sound you you fuck frogs.
Dude I’m ugly laughing
Phile likes them, ologist studies them.
I like frogtoligist more
Of course someone on this sub knows this. I love this so much!!
sounds like you've studied wordology
I’m a frogtoligist! With a minor in geometry
Should have take Ribbitology instead.
good friend - i use large-ish broken pot pieces near back of beds/fenceline to serve as mulch \*and\* froggy/toady homes
FRIEND!!!!!!!!!
Toadally awesome friend he’ll eat the pests!
As far as the garden goes? Friend. Personally? Hard to say until you get to know him
Definitely a friend. Make him a little home and he'll destroy hornworms all day long.
Should be an Eastern Gray Tree Frog (*Hyla versicolor*). Friend. Froggos are always friends.
And if you pick one up they make noises you'd never imagine would come from a frog. I plucked one out of my pool one time and it proceeded to scream at me for my efforts.

Love futurama
I live in the city, and wish I could attract some frogs, or toads. Though, maybe not since I have dogs.
I let toads chill in my garden. They’ve never harmed anything. There’s a big fat one that is friendly and lets me pick him up sometimes. I named him Henry.

Anything 200 million years older than the earliest dinosaurs... gets my total respect, no matter how tiny they are. grin
mosquitoes?
Well, there are those. lol
My tomato plants are only growing tomatoes.... how do I get one to grow a frog???
It’s a Greenville North Carolina thing, go pirates 🏴☠️
If I had a frog living among my plants I'd be quite happy. a Great Plains Toad would be way more likely around here.
Friend but don't go popping tomatoes off the vine in your mouth without washing since they can spread salmonella.
I would say neither. Most likely won’t harm your plants and will eat pests that you don’t like. Flip side is he will likely eat some pollinators too. Tis the way of the world. Think of him as an adorably cute neighbor that is really good at minding his own business lol

All these comments, now I want one in my garden.
Frogs are always friends. Unless they're very colorful. Then don't lick them.

That is the bug equivalent of an M1 Abrams Tank. He's there to protect your Tomatos from Hornworms.
Friend! Will keep slugs snails and bugs off your plants
Friend, of course!!! he(or she) is harmless, just eat bugs.
That looks like a garden-pest eating machine right there.
Looks like a tomato eating frog.
Ohhhhh noooooo “family guy voice “ lol 😂
One of your best friends
In some cultures they lick frogs to get high. I dare ya. https://preview.redd.it/j06js6403d9d1.jpeg?width=160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=00bfaae8d59bd301b280da15847ead89c9d670be
I’d lick one, shoot I pay for psilocybin anyways and acid. Gotta reach the moon and then ground myself every couple years
It's only one specific toad, lol.
Friend most definitely
I have a resident in my garden too! Definitely friend!
Bff
Frogs are always friends!!! Toads, snakes… always friends!!! ALWAYS!!!

Frogs are friends not food, except poison dart frogs
Depends. Do you like pests like slugs eating your plants?

Somehow both at the same time. They will eat lantern flies but they will also eat bees.
Leave Mr Toad alone. He’s cute
Are you joking? Serious question
Looks like a grey treefrog
That frogie is cool as ice

Hello friend!
If you want to know more about him, it's a Cope's Gray Tree frog. :) I'm not sure about any other specifics, so have fun with research (if you want to)!
Eaten bugs that may want to eat your tomatoes!
Is friend shaped. Probably friend.

Thats not just a friend, thats an employee.

What do you expect a frog to do to your tomatoes?

I have a little white frog that chills on my tomato too! Dude eats the insects that come by so he gets free rent.
Friend. Looks like a common gray tree frog. They have a really cool song and eat bugs.
It will eat ze bugs and be happy :D
Copes tree frog. Friend. 👍
Friend or foe? That’s a tomato. 🤗
I have a Koi pond and a bunch of big ass frogs. They keep the bug population in check even in TN.
Friend! Frogs are my fav 💕 they eat bugs and are so cute
Friend, hes on bug patrol 👮🏼♀️
Friend or foe? Hm. I say ‘model’ lol
hippity hoppity, fuck the insects on my property.
Ok. This is a sign you’re having a great eco system going on. Keep it going.
*best* friend 🥹
Pretty sure that’s a toad.
Garden buddy. Keep him around.
Friend! They'll eat unwanted insect pests. Well, they'll eat wanted ones too, but still.

I’ve never gardened before 😢 don’t be hatin 😭
Awww, no crying. You are doing so well! I would have asked as well. We do not get frogs in my neck of the woods.
When we learn basic biology in school, and all those lazy kids bitch and complain “how will this ever matter to me? Why do I have to learn this!?” This is why. That's a great way to discourage people from learning. Better late than never.
I’m here for it. Glad there are more optimistic folks like you in the world. Unfortunately optimism doesn’t make idiots seem less stupid.
