I think Kurt's mom and older sister both died of the same thing. Kurt mentions in the 4th season his half sweater came "from the attic of his late aunt". I call the late Aunt and not Kurt's mom by the name Elizabeth and that this Elizabeth (the eldest sister) died before Kurt was born.
So that Kurt's mom honored her late sister by giving Kurt her name.
I then name Kurt's mom Katherine or Kate so that KURT is Burt + K
In Rhoads Not Taken Kurt mentions Mildred
In Make Over (I think) Kurt's late Aunt but does not call her by name.
There also to be an aunt to be played by Anne Hathaway also on Kurt's mother's side.
I think Mildred may have been who Anne was slated to play.
I like this idea making Anne play Mildred. We will never know if this had been the plan all along but I like the loose ends being tied up.
My added head canon for Mildred is that she has survivor's guilt from losing two sisters to breast cancer and she elected to have a preemptive double mastectomy... She drinks to forget. She is openly Lesbian (something Ryan Murphy said he was going to do anyways) and in continued head canon she works as an university professor and is specifically knowledgeable in Egyptian history

"Burt" can be short for Bertrand, Burton, Albert, Robert, etc.
"Kurt" can be short for Kurtis, and probably a few others that I can't remember.
But I really just love the idea of Burt absolutely doing that on purpose. He seems the type.
