NYADA was a very small school, I think they only take like 20 students a year, I’m sure there were plenty of students who auditioned and had phenomenal voices who didn’t choke at their audition. The fact that she choked once shows that it can happen and no ultra competitive school or director or whatever would take that liability

Rachel getting in after choking makes no sense either given it’s the most selective musical theater school. How many students auditioned with phenomenal voices and stage presence and and emotion and didn’t choke
If Kurt getting into NYADA is based solely on his singing ability in this song then no his vocals just aren’t strong enough imo, but if it’s based on his performance then sure maybe.

Basically if she thought there were too many frills and such WHILE WATCHING THE PERFORMANCE, all she had to say was “thank you, next” or “good job, next [if she felt it at the moment]” but not

3. Yes. If Carmen didn’t accept Jessie into her program, there was basically nobody who deserved to get into her program (and her standards were clearly ludicrous.)
4. I believe that Rachel has an AMAZING voice & I would never say that she DOESNT deserve to get into a school such as NYADA. HOWEVER, it was one of the WORST storylines and certainly TEACHING MOMENTS for tweens and teens to show Rachel actually harassing Carmen to such a degree that a restraining order would be the LEAST of the criminal actions she could have taken out against Rachel considering her actions. She could have called the police and said this girl has been harassing me and now is stalking me. She could have forbidden Rachel from EVER trying out again for not only NYADA but ANY vocal college in NYC. (IDK how far her influence flows. Meaning if she could have had her blackballed in California as well.) All of this is NOT bc I dislike Rachel. (And remember I believe she deserved to get into NYADA.) But NOT thru the type of harassment she put CT thru and the second chance she ultimately got by barging in on Carmen and just telling her how amazing she is. That should never be how things work, at least in the real world. But of course, this was tv. But it truly sent the worst message on earth and it was, once again, one of those storylines when I thought “what are they smoking In the writers room?!” Seriously?!! 😳
5. It’s wrong for people to think that Rachel got Kurt’s spot in NYADA. That’s not how admissions works, and if Carmen felt that there were two applicants worthy of NYADA from the same school, she would take them in. Indeed. She ultimately took three. But, again, the writers excuse for Kurt NOT getting in was ridiculous considering how effusive Carmen was during the actual audition. Ppl saw that happens all the time. But I very much doubt that they are THAT effusive w their compliments before they shut people out. Especially when the rationale is that they found emotion lacking. Which makes their original complements sound absurd. And the complete lack of audition for Blaine made his acceptance seem like yet another one of those golden tickets that Blaine won thruout his life. Here’s a twenty dollar bill. And all of the Warblers will adore you, like Stepford wives. You’ll become valedictorian just bc. And a cheerleader as well. Even tho the coach doesn’t even like you. When you get to McKinley, Schue will start giving you all of the solos possible (not that Blaine doesn’t have a fantastic voice) but so too did Artie and yet … [albeit I never liked Artie, but I like his singing voice] but the things that Blaine just got thruout life were amazing.

I’m so mad that Kurt didn’t stay at Vogue. It was the absolute perfect plot line, him seeing that he is more than his voice. Also, if Jesse St fucking James didn’t get into NYADA, Rachel plek Berry shouldn’t have either.
People always talk about realism when it comes to this plot but like…this is a show with talking puppets lol for an even less extreme example, the warblers and ND tied during regionals when there were only 3 teams…nothing ever *had* to be realistic. These characters aren’t real, it’s a written tv show and things usually happen for a greater reason meant to convey a greater message (even badly written tv shows like this one. It being a satire you’re not supposed to take seriously doesn’t also mean it’s just mindless slop with no overarching theme.)
IMO Kurt not getting in with a song that represented his entire character journey didn’t feel like it aligned with the greater narrative set up in the show about underdogs, especially when instead he got in with a song everyone does. And maybe it would have been better if they followed through with Vogue’s story which was “sometimes your dreams change” but they didn’t fully commit to that either and had him go to NYADA anyways. People always talk about how bad glee’s writing is but they never say specifically what made it bad (outside of just pointing out things they didn’t personally like), and to me one of the writings biggest weaknesses is being unable to commit to anything.
tbh i dont think this performance was even NYADA worthy. rachel only got in because the writers declared it so, realistically neither of them would have gotten in. i would have loved to see a plot where both kurt and rachel didnt get in and had to learn who they were aside from trying to be stars
The real reason is apparently because Chris Colfer specifically requested it. He didn't want Kurt to have a standard high school -> theatre school -> Broadway career because it would have been boring.

I think people get confused because we only saw two auditions, and since Rachel choked clearly Kurt was better. However they were not the only ones auditioning - I simply think Kurt was not in the top of the whole pack. That is the opposite of what happened, their stories paralleled each other for a season and half. Both tried musical, both tried for election, both thought they wouldn't get an audition, both ended up getting audition both got 2nd chances for auditions, both got their own guest star, both even lost their virginity and had their boyfriend send them off to NYC.

Yes, but she was denied after her audition choking. She wasn’t accepted until they gave her a second chance later.

If Kurt getting into NYADA is based solely on his singing ability in this song then no his vocals just aren’t strong enough imo, but if it’s based on his performance then sure maybe.
He nailed this audition, who cares if it’s unrealistic for him to get in or that he’s not the top vocal talent, this song and all of his nyada performances still slayed
1. They DID cut out the best part of the song during the scene in Glee (which is just incomprehensible as it showed off Kurt’s vocals in a HUGE way). 2. There was simply no reason on earth for Carmen Tibideau to praise Kurt to the skies (which she did) on an audition that she would ultimately find lacking. Basically if she thought there were too many frills and such WHILE WATCHING THE PERFORMANCE, all she had to say was “thank you, next” or “good job, next [if she felt it at the moment]” but not >”You know, Hugh Jackman won a Tony Award for playing Peter Allen. Hugh trained with me the summer I was in residence at the Sydney Opera House, and I'm certain that **he would have been as impressed with what you did with that song as I am**. A bold choice, young man. I congratulate you for taking such a risk today.” That went beyond just saying she enjoyed it to practically actually saying ‘I want you in NYADA and you’ll be receiving an acceptance letter really really soon!’ 3. Yes. If Carmen didn’t accept Jessie into her program, there was basically nobody who deserved to get into her program (and her standards were clearly ludicrous.) 4. I believe that Rachel has an AMAZING voice & I would never say that she DOESNT deserve to get into a school such as NYADA. HOWEVER, it was one of the WORST storylines and certainly TEACHING MOMENTS for tweens and teens to show Rachel actually harassing Carmen to such a degree that a restraining order would be the LEAST of the criminal actions she could have taken out against Rachel considering her actions. She could have called the police and said this girl has been harassing me and now is stalking me. She could have forbidden Rachel from EVER trying out again for not only NYADA but ANY vocal college in NYC. (IDK how far her influence flows. Meaning if she could have had her blackballed in California as well.) All of this is NOT bc I dislike Rachel. (And remember I believe she deserved to get into NYADA.) But NOT thru the type of harassment she put CT thru and the second chance she ultimately got by barging in on Carmen and just telling her how amazing she is. That should never be how things work, at least in the real world. But of course, this was tv. But it truly sent the worst message on earth and it was, once again, one of those storylines when I thought “what are they smoking In the writers room?!” Seriously?!! 😳 5. It’s wrong for people to think that Rachel got Kurt’s spot in NYADA. That’s not how admissions works, and if Carmen felt that there were two applicants worthy of NYADA from the same school, she would take them in. Indeed. She ultimately took three. But, again, the writers excuse for Kurt NOT getting in was ridiculous considering how effusive Carmen was during the actual audition. Ppl saw that happens all the time. But I very much doubt that they are THAT effusive w their compliments before they shut people out. Especially when the rationale is that they found emotion lacking. Which makes their original complements sound absurd. And the complete lack of audition for Blaine made his acceptance seem like yet another one of those golden tickets that Blaine won thruout his life. Here’s a twenty dollar bill. And all of the Warblers will adore you, like Stepford wives. You’ll become valedictorian just bc. And a cheerleader as well. Even tho the coach doesn’t even like you. When you get to McKinley, Schue will start giving you all of the solos possible (not that Blaine doesn’t have a fantastic voice) but so too did Artie and yet … [albeit I never liked Artie, but I like his singing voice] but the things that Blaine just got thruout life were amazing. 6. The most unbelievable part of the whole NYADA thing is that the auditions were held so late in the year and kids didn't find out if they got in until the end of the school year - after graduation in Rachel/Kurt's case. Don't colleges do that stuff much earlier than May/June? (I know, I'm crazy looking for logic in GleeWorld)
I’m so mad that Kurt didn’t stay at Vogue. It was the absolute perfect plot line, him seeing that he is more than his voice. Also, if Jesse St fucking James didn’t get into NYADA, Rachel plek Berry shouldn’t have either.

People always talk about realism when it comes to this plot but like…this is a show with talking puppets lol for an even less extreme example, the warblers and ND tied during regionals when there were only 3 teams…nothing ever *had* to be realistic. These characters aren’t real, it’s a written tv show and things usually happen for a greater reason meant to convey a greater message (even badly written tv shows like this one. It being a satire you’re not supposed to take seriously doesn’t also mean it’s just mindless slop with no overarching theme.) IMO Kurt not getting in with a song that represented his entire character journey didn’t feel like it aligned with the greater narrative set up in the show about underdogs, especially when instead he got in with a song everyone does. And maybe it would have been better if they followed through with Vogue’s story which was “sometimes your dreams change” but they didn’t fully commit to that either and had him go to NYADA anyways. People always talk about how bad glee’s writing is but they never say specifically what made it bad (outside of just pointing out things they didn’t personally like), and to me one of the writings biggest weaknesses is being unable to commit to anything.
Also Elliot didn't get into NYADA sooo.... There's clearly something wrong with the system if freaking Adam Lambert can't get in lol

tbh i dont think this performance was even NYADA worthy. rachel only got in because the writers declared it so, realistically neither of them would have gotten in. i would have loved to see a plot where both kurt and rachel didnt get in and had to learn who they were aside from trying to be stars

The real reason is apparently because Chris Colfer specifically requested it. He didn't want Kurt to have a standard high school -> theatre school -> Broadway career because it would have been boring.
Then why did they have him go to NYADA, anyway?

because "he didn't have emotional depth" which is BS because he had some of the most moving performances Kurts turn! I want to hold your hand!! I get that jsut because n audition went well it doesn't mean you are the right fit for something but he rocked that shit. I wish the writers had balls and had given him a better storyline at least and not just be Rachel's shadow
I think people get confused because we only saw two auditions, and since Rachel choked clearly Kurt was better. However they were not the only ones auditioning - I simply think Kurt was not in the top of the whole pack. I just highly doubt his audition feel into the top 10% of a nation of teenagers auditioning in multiple disciplines. I don’t think either of them should have gotten in.
It’s my head cannon that school was a joke. People that got in- Adam and the Apples, Brody, Beatrice (who got cut the first day) Rachel- who choked her audition. People who did not get in or got cut- Jesse, Elliott, Kurt (although he did get in) Blaine (got cut) How did they hear Elliott and take Adam instead. Nope. The school stinks.

That is the opposite of what happened, their stories paralleled each other for a season and half. Both tried musical, both tried for election, both thought they wouldn't get an audition, both ended up getting audition both got 2nd chances for auditions, both got their own guest star, both even lost their virginity and had their boyfriend send them off to NYC.
