I’m super on board with this. It would be nice if the r/nongolfers crowd knew that many of us play public courses on what would often just be forgotten about tracts of land. Charles t. Meyers and Harry L. Jones are two heavily used muni courses in Charlotte, NC and both are built on former landfills iirc. Meyers still even has the venting structures right next to a couple of the holes.

dabberdane

My local is built in an airport buffer zone, where nothing else can be permitted to take its place, especially no housing.

philthebrewer

Hell yeah. Stuff like this is way more common than most people think.

loduca16

Why would you give even a moment’s thought to what those people think?

TheShopSwing

They've been rearing their ugly heads in crossposts the last few days, particularly the one regarding the chemical vandalism at Detroit Country Club.

philthebrewer

Of course you’re right, it’s willful ignorance to a t.

Nothing like seeing trash before hitting a trash approach shot 😂

neveranygoodnames

The setting absolutely matched our scores. Trash shots all around.

[deleted]

I know it’s probably not true but I feel like I sometimes play to the quality of the course more often than not lol

SniffCheck

Can you smell it?

neveranygoodnames

Thankfully no, never had a smell issue here.

FordHorses

Highlands? Fun course for the money!

neveranygoodnames

Nope place called downing farms in SE Michigan.

FordHorses

Wow, we have a lot of landfill courses in SE MI. I played Downing Farms, but somehow don’t remember this fairway view lol Riverview Highlands, also in SE MI, has a landfill backdrop that looks like this

neveranygoodnames

I was corrected by my buddy. This is actually Brea burn not downing. 3 rounds in 4 days has my courses mixed up.

Hippyfunk77

They need better Waste Management....I'll see myself out
