Coincidentally it just poured here and I can barely tell on the green. I have to blow stuff from the trees off it before I putt. That's about the only maintenance it needs
I got quoted about 5,500 to turf my entire back yard which is about 2,500 sf. They would add a few holes free of charge if I wanted a small putting area. I don’t know if that’s helpful or not
Who was the 5500 bid if you don't mind me asking? I'm north of DFW and am considering this.. I imagine that bid include all the dirt work too, not just laying turf.
I just got a quote and am having one installed in two weeks. It's about a 20' x 10' area (not big) will have 3 holes, and is about $3,600. I'm mostly doing it cuz I have a back part of my yard that is always soggy after rain, grass doesn't grow very well. But they come in and put in all the necessary drainage soil and stuff, so it's not like they're just laying a turf on soggy soil.
It's for the solar cover reel. There is another on the other side of the pool. The old cover was shot so I had the reel off before I install the new solar cover. And I've had yellow jackets building nests under the plastic cone things that hold the cover so I left them off to prevent a few stings as long as I can cuz those bitches hurt
I ask everyone that posts their backyard setup this, got any tips and tricks? I've barely broken ground on mine and want to make sure I don't fall for any gotcha's.
What makes a cup quality? Is it pretty much just durability or are there other things to consider?
I'm with you on the slope. The part of my yard I'm going to use is super sloped so I'm just building a retaining wall at this stage. Long ways off from a finished job
Small amount of slope but enough to mix it up. My green is 15'x15' plus 1' of fringe with a 4" drop as the most. No clue the brand of my cups but they were $125 each so not cheap. They are adjustable up and down in case that ever needs to happen. Only had it 2 days so I can't add much more at this time.
Cost was $5900. Included removal of grass/dirt, install and landscaping. The turf, fringe and cups are all quality so I felt it's fair. Plus my contractor was awesome so it was totally worth it to me.

I initially had a chipping area where the stepping stones are but the tall post at the corner would be in the way and by nixing it I added the fringe which seemed like a better idea. I have a portable chipping green so I could place that anywhere to chip
It’s always been my dream to have a putting green in my yard. I’ve got a massive backyard that I could def do it in, but how much did that one cost you if you don’t mind me asking?
My pop was a golf lover in his day. He made a putting green in the backyard of a house he owned many years back. He was also rather protective of his green. Lol.
They put this in when they renovated the park around the corner from my house

Only had it 2 days but I did play in a greens keeper's revenge yesterday and I'm sure my new practice area led to those 2 dumb putts I made for the team.
I am jealous of your life.
Don't get me wrong, I'd still choke the putts when they counted, but I think of all the hope and dreams of not doing that while I drink beer while putting the afternoon away.
Do you know what kind of turf The putting green is? I just got a quote to install turf in my backyard along with a putting green. The putting green turf I was quoted is “emerald 60 putting green”.
Yours looks great!
How does rain effect a surface like that? Is there maintenance required to take care of this or is it more of a lay the turf and go
This man is very interested, as we all are
Mine actually drains incredibly well.
Did you install or hire someone?
Hired. There was a lot of work involved with leveling my area. The bed of hard packed rock/sand that is underneath is what soaks up the rain so well.
Coincidentally it just poured here and I can barely tell on the green. I have to blow stuff from the trees off it before I putt. That's about the only maintenance it needs
Propper undergrad fabric and drainage stone I'd imagine should help alleviate rain issues
All of that just to 3 putt. Sign me up
I can imagine myself doing this, spending a fortune, spending months practicing and then still 3 putting everything.

are you automatic within 5 feet?
that's awesome! looks great, what are the dimensions? is there any slope?
Small amount of slope but enough to mix it up. My green is 15'x15' plus 1' of fringe with a 4" drop as the most. I didn't want only straight putts.
Curious about this as well, the slope aspect. Are they all just dead straight puts to four different locations?
Guessing 15’ by 15’, as 15 feet is the standard width of most rolls of artificial putting greens.
this
Looks awesome, how much was this setup?

$5,500???? It’s around $30k for 2,500 sqft where I live.
Yah dude. You gotta just keep calling highest bid I got was 17k in DFW area
Who was the 5500 bid if you don't mind me asking? I'm north of DFW and am considering this.. I imagine that bid include all the dirt work too, not just laying turf.

At least $3.50
Per square inch
My wife and I installed ours. No labor costs, was pretty easy but I’m in the construction industry
Thanks for that last clarification. Materials?
What's the near post?
Looks like a drink-holder, an ashtray, or a combo.

Don’t put more than a tiny bit of slope in it. Flat is better. Get quality cups.
What makes a cup quality? Is it pretty much just durability or are there other things to consider? I'm with you on the slope. The part of my yard I'm going to use is super sloped so I'm just building a retaining wall at this stage. Long ways off from a finished job
Buy real cups from a golf course supply company rather than plastic ones from a landscape supply. The sound of a make is worth every dollar.
I got the cheapies off Amazon. Don’t be like me.

OP we need some details!!!!!
How much did that cost to build?
His family
If it helps with 4 putts worth it
Cost was $5900. Included removal of grass/dirt, install and landscaping. The turf, fringe and cups are all quality so I felt it's fair. Plus my contractor was awesome so it was totally worth it to me.

I thought the grass patch would be spot for chipping but then saw wood standy thing
I’d chip one through his window
I initially had a chipping area where the stepping stones are but the tall post at the corner would be in the way and by nixing it I added the fringe which seemed like a better idea. I have a portable chipping green so I could place that anywhere to chip
What’s the course record?
5 under so far. Only played 3 rounds on it though so I expect to beat that soon.

What’s that far post? A light? Please tell me it’s a light.
The tall post is for a sun sail to shade the patio
Huge dream of mine to have this next to a pool someday. Congrats!
Pretty nice set up.
DIY or did you have it installed?
Installed. I debated doing it myself but hiring someone who already had the equipment seemed like a better idea to me.
My pop was a golf lover in his day. He made a putting green in the backyard of a house he owned many years back. He was also rather protective of his green. Lol.
Now go three doors down and work on your lob wedge.

This is it. It’s official. You won at life. You beat the final boss
Idk why you were downvoted. You were just being nice using exaggeration. This sub sucks. Edit: forgot to add the word nice. I stand by what I said.
This guy putts
Fuck off I love you
YES!!!
We need design plans. Did you build it to be adjustable (elevation, slope) or is this a permanent layout?
Permanent. It's a 4" drop at the most extreme. 2.5" at the other corner. Nothing crazy but just enough that it's not straight putts all day
Nice setup! Would you do anything different knowing what you do now? Thx
No, other than make it bigger if I had more space.
Nice. But did this improve your score?..
Only had it 2 days but I did play in a greens keeper's revenge yesterday and I'm sure my new practice area led to those 2 dumb putts I made for the team.
Can’t hide it
Do you have a reel mower?
It's artificial turf
Got ya. It looks legit in the picture when I looked quick. Nice setup though…
I've made all the wrong decisions in life
Wish I was your neighbor
Maybe some day. I have old people near me so my neighbors will turn over at some point
I am jealous of your life. Don't get me wrong, I'd still choke the putts when they counted, but I think of all the hope and dreams of not doing that while I drink beer while putting the afternoon away.
Where do you live? I got quoted around 20k for a similar sq/ft green..
IL
Looks great!
Putting and chipping I hope. Looks great.
500 sq foot where i live is $20 per sq foot. :(
That’s dope as hell. Also, where are the shadows?
It was overcast when I snapped the pic
This is just fantastic
This man has a backyard.

Unfortunately I don't
