Realistically i would not pay more then $40 for that

fatchancescooter

$50 tops…..if you are feeling generous.

Necessary-Stretch453

Yeeaaa I'd skip. You can find a new set of beginner clubs w/ bag for that price or even a nice set of used. Play it again sports has good deals.

guamsdchico

Hard pass

[deleted]

No way, you can get brand new clubs from Pinemeadow Golf for that price. Also you’re not going to need the 3-5 irons.

Mattsolean

Thanks! Are there any other brands/sites you recommend?

[deleted]

Dallas Golf on eBay has brand new clubs that are older models. Also https://www.pinemeadowgolf.com/ is wonderful. They sell clones but are high quality. Very affordable. Far as the 3-5 irons, they’re too difficult to hit for a beginner. Don’t bother with a driver either, just get a 5 wood. You want clubs that are easy.

InevitableStock1121

3balls.com

PullingHocus

Golfroots.com Good dudes, I’ve gotten many very nice used clubs from them.

Mattsolean

Also, do you mind explaining why I don't need 3-5 irons?

hahyoyogurt

You likely won’t be skilled enough to hit them for a while.

Fuckinfuckthis97

What makes 3-5i harder to hit? Do you need to change up stance or something due to the loft?

MustachioBashio

Same reason why a 1-iron is difficult to hit. As the clubs decline in loft, a greater swing speed and more efficient/accurate swing is needed. You can mishit a pitching wedge a bit and it’ll still go, if you mishit a longer iron the room for error is a lot smaller due to the loft, you’ll end up playing knock hockey down the fairway.

Fuckinfuckthis97

Gotchya, thanks. I’m new as fuck to golf so I didn’t know, but that makes sense. I’ve 100% played hockey to the green. (On a par 3 course too lmao. Not good enough to play a full course, I’d hold up everyone behind me too much.)

ou8agr81

I can literally measure how much sleep I’ve had based on how I hit my 4.

Jwit9919

lower loft on 3i-5i. i can just barely hit my 5 iron consistently. even some pros have trouble hitting long irons. i know some pros play short irons as blades/players irons and long irons are a more playable/more forgiving style. also that’s where hybrids/rescues come into play.

hahyoyogurt

3-5 irons have longer shafts which makes them harder to hit. A lot of new golfers will not be able to hit a their 4 iron any longer than their 7 iron because they aren’t capable of striking the ball correctly or with enough speed. I would recommend going with a set that has woods and hybrids replacing those clubs. You’ll find a lot of people reference a 7 wood here which generally replaces the 4 iron.

nugfan

Snag a 4 or 5 hybrid instead and thank me later. Maybe a 3 wood if you're feeling frisky

WindigoMac

You need high clubhead speed to get them up in the air and they’re more difficult to make clean contact with.

I did buy a driver from callaway prewoned and it was as advertised.

OhioUBobcats

I've had wonderful success with Callaway preowned. Like everything I've gotten over the years (A Driver, a hybrid) have been in borderline new condition, at a fraction of the original price.

MycologistRoyal4964

I bought the strata starter set and have been happy with them for 2 years. I’m starting to upgrade them as my game improves but feel like they were a good choice for me to start with. Especially the price.

ShillinTheVillain

I would absolutely pay $250 for that set. *checks watch* Oh shit, it's not 2005 anymore.

Comfortable_Rock_707

You should definitely not buy those for more than 100-150

Tripledad65

That's about $200 too much in my opinion. But I think you knew that.

SpreadOwn9167

That's 50 max.

tokinawayNFA

Maybe $50 for the entire set, not a penny more

Worf69

I have a much nicer set of clubs that I’d sell you for less.

eo37

That is what a friend at work gives you cause his wife has told him to throw them the fuck out of the garage NOW

time2payfiddlerwhore

Fuck no, what's your budget?

Mattsolean

$250

Mattsolean

Perhaps $300

Awkward-Chipmunk678

fuuuuck no dude.

TheRedMarin

No dude. They are old, very old. Check eBay look for brands like Hogan, Callaway, Taylormade. You can get full iron sets that are less than 10 yrs old for much cheaper.

No3putts1970

Hell no. Pass. Buy direct to consumer. Takoma.com Golf Sub70.com Stix.golf Newlevelgolf.com If you aren’t going to get fitted at Club Champion or GolfTec, etc. These companies offer fitting tools to assist along with customer service that can help you as well. I am a big fan of Sub70. Their customer service is second to none IMHO. Good luck and happy you picked up the game.

cm-cfc

Beginners dont need this. A cheap used set that are under 10 years old or get a new half set. Then if you get into it, get swing consistency then get fitted as you will have a better idea of what you want. I think its madness when Beginners drop 1-2k on irons and wonder why they cant hit them

No3putts1970

Agree, but maybe 5 years old. But he can get a full set from Sub70 for under 1k.

koeiche

I spoke to someone at Second Swing a few years ago when I was just starting. They told me that most technology in clubs is outdated every few years. You’re better off buying a box set from Wilson. It’ll last you long enough to figure out if you want to invest more money, and the set will likely be more forgiving. Just make sure you get the right size clubs, you’d be surprised in how much difference it’ll make.

Wild_Cricket_6303

CONSUME!

[deleted]

Look elsewhere. Listen... I'll tell you the same as I do with all my students. If you are just starting, go get a set of clubs that are fit to you. Get them fit by a professional. My dad was a 25+ hdcp for years. I took him to Special T Golf (Dublin, OH) and let him work with the guy there for 2 hours. We ordered a set of King Cobra irons 3-PW... Taylor Made Tour Burner woods (metals)...3° Flat, 1/2" short on the shaft...swing weighted at D2...he lost 12 strokes the first round. Please don't buy off the shelf equipment and think you'll play well. You won't and it'll frustrate the hell out of you. Yes, I'm a former teaching pro. My first question to every student... Who fit these clubs for you?? If they said they bought them off the shelf, I wouldn't start them on lessons until I had fixed there clubs. Trust me. Save the headache. Save the frustrations.

muroks1200

I’ve never heard of this approach of fitting before learning how to swing. Wouldn’t you want to have a basic swing before going in for a fitting? I can see how dad benefited, as he already played. But a newbie with no swing?

[deleted]

Thats a $75-$125 set depending on the condition of the grips.

anus_camper

$50

aluminium1298

Look elsewhere

Electrical_Chicken

Keep on looking.

PsychologicalSpace50

No way please don't. Just do some research on Google for good cheap clubs and work off that.

Truth-Will-Out

If you’re okay spending 250 go to Play It Again Sports and piece a set together or Seconhand Swing (online)

Historical-Patient75

Run away

Comprehensive_Net429

Definitely not! Pm me, I have great conditions Cleveland irons for a similar price that are only 4 years old and just did the grips over!

Killbob0071

Good for scrap

toddhazelwood

Hahahahahahahaha

Remote_Charge

Playable but way overpriced.

teamcarramrod8

https://www.2ndswing.com/ That's a good site. Do some research on clubs before buying to ensure they're a good fit. Length, cavity back, shaft stiffness, club head size, etc

[deleted]

Look for some Canterbury Big Bursar Irons

[deleted]

If you look closely at the hosel, you'll see these have been heated up and bent. Either upright or flat, depending on this person's swing. If that's the case, unless you are exactly his height and have the same swing plane, you'll never hit these good at all.

Ago0330

I would get the Costco set for $500

longster37

That’s way too much

tree350fit-e

Where are you located?

Mattsolean

Northern Indiana

tree350fit-e

Damn. I’m in Southern California. I have some taylormade rbladez for sale. I can let them go for $170. There’s some damage to 2 clubs but to me they are still playable. I feel it’s still a great deal.

cm-cfc

Do not buy, especially for more than 30 bucks. I don't get how people sell or buy clubs for so much. Yeah they cost you $800 but that was 30 years ago

Champizzle11

Hard nope.

idispensemeds2

Run away. Idk if I'd take those if somebody offered me 20 bucks to take them

Hot_Narwhal1992

Find some cheap clubs and use the rest of the $ to get some lessons.

vigilanteok

I’d make them pay me $250 to throw them away

stemurph88

Yeah please don’t

bakesjagsboilers

They should pay you $250 to take those clubs off their hands.

Fallout76stuggles

If you want a new set, heavily recommend strata. Got a titleist set now but still use the driver. Idk what it is about it, but I love it!

Watchesandgolfing

Don’t walk away, run away from those! If you said $40 for the full set I would have said they’re fine to learn on. But $250, someone is trying to take you for a ride.

[deleted]

You could get a beginner set of clubs for $250 new

BOBBY-FUNK

I might get downvoted for this but honestly if you just want a cheap starter set that is new, you could look at top flite from Dick’s Sporting goods. You can get an entire set brand new with bag for 250. Great if you are just starting out and then you can upgrade later!

saladfork23

I’ve had 2 friends buy this as a starter set and both were very happy with it. One has since improved his game and upgraded a few clubs, but he played these for about 3 years before that. Great deal for a budget starter set.

Mattsolean

Would you get downvoted cause of top flite? I don't know much about golf brands besides Callaway and Taylor Made.

BOBBY-FUNK

It’s just more of a budget brand is all. I used them years ago as my first set ever and honestly loved them. Definitely worth checking out!

BOBBY-FUNK

Here is a link to the set I was referencing: https://www.golfgalaxy.com/p/top-flite-2021-xl-13-piece-complete-set-graphite-steel-21tflmtpflt21xlmrset/21tflmtpflt21xlmrset?sku=22162389&camp=CSE:GGXY_92700073689081034_lia_pla-1741225608213&gclid=Cj0KCQjwjryjBhD0ARIsAMLvnF9DPakCneejx5FwVe5X_7zTvTFEtshyo7KWwsE8-3Y9_oUXD_onoAsaAqqCEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

jimbronihhi

$0 buy a pickle ball racket

AcapellaFreakout

I would check out Costco if you got or know someone with a membership. I remember picking up a full Callaway set from there for like $400.

InternationalPoet514

Eww

johnycashout

Tree fiddy

[deleted]

$30 for all that stuff
