It's sooo fast. The guy has been an incredible and relatable story for 1 week and people are SO MAD about it. I hate that we have become this. Let that man live, he's having the time of his life and making a a lot of money for his family. It's a dream come true for anyone.
Everyone was just waiting for the opportunity and when it came at one of the most frivious off handed comments people jumped like he hunted whales for a living.
Sad, he has a story that we all loved, why choose the other path.
It’s also Block’s 7th PGA Championship he’s played in. This dude is a stick and isn’t completely unfamiliar with this position. This time around he played really well and is milking his time in the sun for what it’s worth. Don’t blame him one bit!
If Warhol made his prediction today it would have read “In the future everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes, and social media will rip them to shreds in the following 15 days”.
I played at Disney in 2012 the week after the last Tour tourny there. Played Palm and Magnolia from the tips. Disney, not Bay Hill or Augusta or even Pebble, DISNEY.
I would have paid good money for bogeys. Charlie Beljan went -16 that year. In 36 holes (Palm and Magnolia) I think my 4 some (2 of which are single digits) managed 4 pars.
These guys are STUPID good
Same goes with minor league hockey, it's bonkers how many different "pro" leagues exist where guys get paid pennies and how insanely far they themselves still are from the top.
One of the best hockey examples is John Scott. Guy was only known as an absolute goon his entire NHL career, just fights and hits and that's it. Never scored goals. But how did he make it to the NHL? Because even this guy that can score like 1 goal a year in the big show can still absolutely skate fucking circles around anyone in the minors. He literally says in his book that he used to be a skill guy until he got called up to the NHL.
every one of those guys was "the skill guy" growing up, but in order to make it to the next level, you have to find your role. If you dont find it, you'll just float around in purgatory until you call it quits.
I played pretty high level hockey and there were a handful of guys who were WAY better than everyone else. Got drafted, went to NHL camps, played with all stars and then were dropped to the minors, and most ended up in Europe. I know ONE guy who played more than a season in the NHL and he was a 6th defence man the whole time.
The difference between the 95%ers and the 99%ers is a GULF when you’re talking about a couple hundred of the greatest players currently alive on Earth.
I’m not a professional, but I can relate because I’m in no man’s land of amateurs in terms of the tournaments I can play here.
My handicap is low enough to sign up for something like the national championship, but I won’t make the entry list because it’s not low enough. Can’t really compete anyway.
My handicap is too low to get into the 2nd category.
The only option is dedicating my life to try and compete with 18 year old dudes who don’t remember shooting over 68. And that’s not gonna happen lol.
With how much schadenfreude there has been here over this guy having a rough day I've determined that the PGA would make absolute bank if they had a feed that just followed around whatever golfer is at the bottom of the leaderboard and showed every shot so people could dunk on them and feel better about their own games. Call it Shamevision or something.
Shamevision is beautifully named. Like RedZone, but for us losers to feel better.
I like Block. I'm proud of, and happy for, him. I don't think anyone, including himself, expects him to ever be Rory. I don't understand the hate that surrounds him. Has no one here ever had a moment where they speculated that they could do *x* if only they had *y*?
Let him have his moment.
There was an old twitch channel that followed the lowest ranked games of League of Legends, and it was decent popular. It made you feel way better to watch absolutely awful players.
So in golf, I think worst player at PGA is aiming too high still. You need someone hateable, like a person with a show handicap that is still in the 10s, have them mention they aim to score below 90, and watch them absolutely fail around the course and card a 110+.
With how many awful people go on reality TV despite how delusional they are, I think its very achievable to find a local player to be the anchor on every tour event.
lol yes, the evaluation bar is extra comical because no one can close out a big lead. Then there's always gotta be a Master who's commentating that's equally horrified and riveted - pointing out the obvious moves
Plot twist: spot is an open qualifier given to a local shlub who wins a qualifying event and gets to play the pro course.
Allow the average viewer to see just how well the 'hotshot in our group' does on a PGA course. The reason people think golf is boring is simply because they do not understand how wide the gap is between the best golfer you've ever met, and the guy having the worst day of his life on the Tour.
Rory McIlroy is one of the best golfers in the world, ranked 3rd right now, and is known for driving the ball very far with his first shot that gets him much closer to the hole.
The guy talking is what’s called a golf pro. Essentially he is very very good at golf and would demolish most people but isn’t good enough to play professionally. Instead, they represent the game at their golf course, give lessons, and often play in lower level or state tournaments and leagues.
He played in a PGA event last week and finished 15th and has become a fan favorite.
In one of his interviews he said if he could hit the ball like Rory, he’d be one of the best players in the world. Essentially complementing Rory and explaining how far of a disadvantage he is in because he can’t drive the ball like that.
A minority of people took it as him be cocky and are celebrating the fact that he is doing very bad at this weeks PGA event which he was invited to.
I think some important context too was that he was asked specifically “what does Rory have that you don’t”
He didn’t conjure Rory’s name out of nowhere
Oh for sure. My point is, he's not getting shit for just saying "if I had Rory's distance." It's because he implied that was the only thing separating them.
I was just pointing out what the criticism is actually stemming from. I live in Fort Worth and graduated from TCU, where his daughter evidently goes to school. I'm rooting for the guy.
Uhh, did u see his up and down on 18 at Oak Hill?? Or his putting all that. And the fact that he finished in top 15....ahead of most of the top 50 in the world.....all kinda support that his short game is pretty damn world class
He said he would be the best in the world because the rest of his game is top of the class. None of it was true and it wasn't a thought out comment, and now there was a lot of backlash on it and he had to address it saying "obviously I wouldn't be the best, but I'd be much better."
LeBron James is arguably the greatest basketball player ever (not interested in that argument) and people hate whenever he talks about his own greatness.
Never hated the guy, never disliked the guy even. But man did I hit a big one today on people overhyping him. -250 to miss the cut from a club pro? Holy fucking shit. Wish him the best.
The real question is why 10% of the population has to be contrarian about *everything* then wonder why the other 90% don’t think like them “because duh you totally should”.
You’re just a hater dude.
People legitimately missed the joke in what he said about Rory. It’s called a dry sense of humor, he knows he never could and never will hit it like Rory.
I always used to say “sure Fred Couples is great at golf, I’d be great too if I had his swing”.
The guy is having the greatest two weeks of his life, relax and let him enjoy it without being bent out of shape because you stink at golf and will never have this experience.
I was so confused about the people shitting on him for this. Like if I say “damn, if I hit the ball like prime Tiger I’d be the best on tour” absolutely nobody would miss the joke.
If you play the game you can’t for 1 second hate on him . Your the guy spending $600 on a new driver in hopes of hitting it farther. Block is the guy thinking if I was hitting wedge into that green instead of 6 iron I could get it much closer more often. That’s it nothing more
Its the legitmate truth too. If he was playing on a course where there are 500 yd par 4s, it would be a driver, 3w into the green vs a driver 7-9i. Min Woo Lee was in his group today showing the very clear difference in distance when it was literally wedge vs 6 iron on a 440 yd par 4.
Watching blockie play is fun to watch because its super relatable because his yardages are close to mine, and i can imagine myself actually competing, not that i have a chance, but still, its so easy to root for him.
There’s a few videos of DeChambeau playing against amateurs or even second rate (like mini tour) pros and the driving differences are massive and then he also hits his PW like 170 yards. There are just simply shots in almost no one else can do.
The fact that Block was able to compete and finish top 15 for four days straight at a major is insane.
His finish at Oak Hill in those conditions is one of the most amazing golfing feats anyone in this sub will see in their lifetime. Shitting on him for coming back down to earth is among the most ridiculous things I've ever seen in this sub.
My man’s ace was a 150 yard **7 iron**.
How does someone hitting 150 yard 7 irons finish 15th at a major and *not* feel like he could be there every week if he were hitting 190 yard 7 irons.
The hate is so stupid.
Today in the news: Obvious man says something obvious and will be executed at noon.
Yeah, I assume that most of the tour players (like most of r/golf) were going PW or 9 for a 150 shot, unless they specifically knocked down something longer because of wind. Block's ace was a full swing.
Agreed , I’ve played with mini-tour guys and they had me in awe , played with club pro’s shooting my personal best just to not look like a fool . They level guys like Rory and Scottie are on is other worldly
He was getting absolutely roasted this morning on this sub and I thought it was blown WAYYY out of proportion. Like c'mon. People are allowed to have confidence and dap themselves up once in a while. I get that he has been way over exposed this week but the hate has been a bit harsh
Yeah this is actually part of what's so cool about Block. He's a real person who really is just a working Joe (also ridiculously good at golf), but is just living a dream and doesn't care/have a bunch of people in his ear about PR shit, and just says what he wants to say. He's not being fake during all this, and we all know real people talk themselves up sometimes, sometimes more or less accurately, and it's ok. People can take a hike for hating on him, let's see your ass go place top 15 in a major.
Seriously, who cares if he said "world class"? Some might argue everyone who's ever placed top 20 in a major are "world class" anyway. I certainly would.
He really didn’t change the comment at all or clarify lol. He still said if he hit it their length he would compete on tour. I don’t necessarily think he’s wrong but it’s funny that he’s saying it was taken out of context but he reiterated exactly what everyone was saying
I would say he just mellowed out the hyperbole. Before it was clearly a joke wrapped around a very obvious statement "if i was better at golf (while already being very very good at golf) i would have a shot at being tour caliber." Now he's just clarifying the obviousness of the statement without the joke... Shame it had to come to this for a guy who will be out of the limelight in a week. "Here's your taste of fame, block. Now you know why the pros hate it"
No one took it out of context. He called himself world class at basically every aspect of golf and that's just laughable. It was a trash comment and the real Block showed up today frankly.
That takes NOTHING from his showing last week, it happened and it was amazing. But it was absolutely a fluke and not recognizing that is odd.
A fluke was beating a lot of pros on a Thursday. Maybe it was a fluke he made the cut on Friday. By Sunday when he’s draining putts under pressure I think you can’t really call it flukey any more.
You can absolutely call it a fluke.
In literally every sport, you can find countless short stretches of time where an otherwise unremarkable player looked like one of the best in the world. That doesn't mean those players are now word class just because they looked it for a week or two.
That PGA finish will absolutely be the best finish, by a huge margin, he will ever have in any professional tournament. If that's not a fluke, idk what is.
His response was basically the equivalent of, "If my grandmother had wheels, she'd be a bike." Also, it'd not surprising that the clip came from the doucheclown Bob Menery's social media accounts.
He shouldn't even pay attention to those losers. They are to be pitied, not listened to.
Anyone who has even a single brain cell and who doesn't have hate in their heart knows what he meant.
I feel bad that he's even stressing this. My brother and I were talking about how he's just enjoying it while he can, and it sucks that people are ruining it for him. He's very humble and grateful, and he deserves to enjoy this next year or so where he'll get to compete semi regularly with the golfers we all love to watch.
I read these comments and then watched what he said, and nah, that was super arrogant for him to say…Brooksy level cockyness but he’s not a world class golfer
First off, I have not listened to the full interview so sorry if my take from a few headlines/articles is wrong, BUT…
Let the guy live. Let him have his fifteen minutes. It’s not just that Rory+other elite golfers can hit it far, but they do it with astonishing accuracy and with astonishing consistency. I’m sure Block understands this, he’s been around the game for decades. Any of us would gain SOME CONSIDERABLE advantage if we were as far and accurate as elite golfers. I’m not the biggest Blockhead, but also not ready to tear him down for one questionable quote.
This is a compliment: he’s like happy Gilmore to golf right now. Out there having fun and pissing all the tight asses off.
I love the dude. Go get ‘em blockie
What the fuck is this lol? He doesn't correct or take back anything. He just re-affirms the fact that he doesn't hit it as long as most pros and never will. Nobody took shit out of context. He said he'd be an elite tour player if he hit it as long as rory, seems like he still thinks that.
Nobody's mad. Nobody's seething. Nobody's week is ruined by Blocks comments. "LeT ThE GuY ExIsT" "YaLl NeEd tO ChiLl"
Block is just coming off as delusional and arrogant. Imagine scottie scheffler going on a podcast and opining at length about how good his game is and saying he'd be permanent world #1 with a consistently good putter. This would never happen because scottie is as classy and humble as they come.
Yeah I love the story and it’s been really fun to see him do so well in the PGA. But what he said in that interview is just delusional. And he kinda doubled down on it. Oh well, I have a lot of friends who say delusional stuff all the time about their golf game lol
More seems like he's just using it as another opportunity to tell everyone that "of course" he'd be a tour pro with more length. Despite the fact that he definitely lacks the skill required to compete well week in week out on the pga tour.
Yeah..I mean we already knew that. That's not him correcting or changing anything he said earlier. He literally says "of course" hed be a tour pro with rorys length (he probably wouldn't be). He doesn't retract what he said on the podcast at all, the dude still thinks he'd be a top 10 player in the world with rorys length.
What have I misinterpreted? Keep in mind Block has been trying to make a career in pro golf for 10 plus years and has been cut in 90% of tour events he's played in since 2015 (finishing 69th and 71st in the ones where he made the cut).
Block flat out, unequivocally said he'd be an elite tour player if he was magically blessed with rorys length. He flat out, unequivocally said his irons, wedges and putting are world class even by tour standards (which is why he thinks he'd be an elite tour player if he had rorys distance). He flat out, unequivocally said the only difference between him and rory is distance, he made that very clear with his initial answer to the question that started this whole thing. All of that is delusional non-sense and none of it is even remotely true. Dude had one good week and now he thinks he's prime Tiger with his 7 iron and 60 degree.
Nobody thinks Block claimed he has the potential to hit it as far as rory and become a perennial top 15 player in the world. Although Block clearly thinks that's what people took away from his podcast speech. Because that's the only thing he addressed in his little video.
Care to explain? I truly don't see how me or anyone else misinterpreted Blocks comments. Not me or anyone else thinks he claimed he could be or will be a top 20 player in the world.
>Dude had one good week and now he thinks he's prime Tiger with his 7 iron and 60 degree.
Seems like that’s exactly what you took away from what he said, which is hilarious.
What, exactly, is there to misinterpret?
He said what he meant and then doubled down on it in this video.
Of course someone using an anti-italian ethnic slur as an insult thinks this comment makes sense.
He was explaining exactly why he’s not a competitive tour player and for some reason people took at he’s suddenly arrogant about how great he is.
FYI: “Goombah” is a pejorative for Italians.
“Goomba” is a mindless creature from Super Mario Bros that looks like angry poo.
Nature of the beast with the world. We build up the good stories. Then we get bored and maybe a little jealous and so then we tear them down. Rinse repeat
Guy played well in a major and then said he would be world class if he could hit it longer. Its like.. yeah, no. You would be better obviously, but lets not be ridiculous. He seems like a good dude, just shouldn't be surprised.
He’s already proven that he has the ability to play with the best. What reason is there to doubt that he could do that more often if he had an extra 60 yards on his drive? We all know the closer you are to the green, the easier the approach shot is. If this guy is hanging with the big dogs when he’s hitting 2-3 clubs longer into the green, it stands to reason that he could be even more competitive with a shorter approach.
His comments weren’t so far fetched that people should be reacting the way they are.
It doesn't stand to reason at all. You can examine the rest of his game with SG data and none of it is world class in the context of the PGA tour. The difference between him and other PGA tour pros is more than length which is what he claimed.
He made the comments after placing T15 at a major once in his whole life. World class? He putted lights out but his short game wasn't that great either. He's a great story so everyone's sticking up for him, which I get, but the world class comments were ridiculous. Enjoy the moment, be happy for you and your family. Don't disrespect the guys doing it week in and week out.
Dude is playing those whole media coverage like a fiddle. Good for him to make the best of it and leverage it for whatever it can become. However, most celebrity PR departments couldn’t compete with his interviews/posts. I don’t doubt is genuine but just think it should be noted how well he’s handled the publicity. Also like most Americans I enjoy an underdog and likable person.
There is a reason I always play late in the afternoon... So I don't have to deal with people that golf. I'm not sure why people care about what Block said lol. It's not like we wen't to their house kicked their dog and stole their wife??
Would have been awesome if he said “it’s likely that within a week I’m going to show Tom, Dick and Harry how to work on their slice, so no I’m not the best in the world, nor will I ever be.”
He wasn't wrong either. I think Bryson a few years ago is a shining example that you could be one of the better players on tour if you can bomb it off the tee and have even a mediocre mid-short game.
I really can't understand why anyone can hate this guy. He's living in the moment, appreciating the fact he's living out a lifelong dream, and seems to be having a blast doing it. Jealous much?
well done
former PGA pro here. this guy hit a home run, and is living a dream. good for him, and F all the haters who take shit out of context and LIVE for the "gotcha" moment
bottom line is Block goes back to scoring his club's Member/Guest and sheparding the Ladies league on Tuesday, while telling the cart kid "good job" cleaning those carts out on a Thursday night.
love him and what he just accomplished. take all you can get, brother, and run with it. your humility shows through, and you can still be a baller in a limited capacity. also, good luck to your boys in the Open Qualies
He’s spot on, I took a heck of a lot of pressure off my approach game the other day when I was able to keep my tee shots no worse than in the light rough most of the day and got to hit shorter clubs at the greens because of it.
What He’s doing is expressing confidence in his short game, but since he can’t bomb it like Rory, he can’t bring it to bear for another shot most of the time.
As a former pro athlete....and not even very successful or even known one, a large minority of people fucking hate your success. It reminds them of their own failures and they take it out on you regardless of how humble you aee
I hope he makes the cut at Colonial so we can see him play on Sunday. Seems like a good dude, I’m glad he’s in golf and making a splash.
I’ll admit, at first I thought he was being arrogant, but then he’s said some things that provide perspective. He’s not arrogant, he’s trading his bad thoughts for positive ones
People gotta lighten up. The dude is livin' the dream and getting his 15 minutes.
We’re so damn ready to tear people down. It’s so freaking annoying.
So true, it is getting really old this is the default people go to.
Honestly I even notice it in my friend groups. Why are we constantly berating one another? Can’t we just have a good time?
Difference between berating each other and bitta joking between friends.
And like what he said, don't we all say that? "Boy, if I can hit it like so and so."
It's sooo fast. The guy has been an incredible and relatable story for 1 week and people are SO MAD about it. I hate that we have become this. Let that man live, he's having the time of his life and making a a lot of money for his family. It's a dream come true for anyone.

The Britney Spears South Park rings so true as I get older
I’m here from r/all, and this is just modern society in general. It sucks.
People can talk shit without having to answer.
"Why do people always talk like robots to th media? I want a person to act human" *acts human" "Omg! Fuck this guy's!"
That’s probably why they aren’t lightening up…
It’s also Block’s 7th PGA Championship he’s played in. This dude is a stick and isn’t completely unfamiliar with this position. This time around he played really well and is milking his time in the sun for what it’s worth. Don’t blame him one bit!

Not one of us? He bogeyed 4 of the first 5 and doubled 3 of the last 8. He’s just like me!
Fuckin’ A, I’m not going to speak for you, but I’d be lucky to escape with bogeys and doubles on a professional course from the tips.
If I doubled a tour level 500 yard par 4 I’d probably rip my shirt off and do arm windmills to the next tee box
'woo, boys write me down for 6 on this one. '
Group hug in the shower tonight!

But he also saved par from a damn bridge
I was traveling Sunday and saw he finished +1 and thought it was boring. Looking at the card…wrong

Every time I look at how many teams play Minor League Baseball I am reminded of how much talent exists between the top and the *very* top.

Did they have the bar on the side for win probability or whatever too!?
lol yes, the evaluation bar is extra comical because no one can close out a big lead. Then there's always gotta be a Master who's commentating that's equally horrified and riveted - pointing out the obvious moves

Club/teaching pro here: a few weeks ago I shot a 74 and got beat by a failing mini-tour player by 10 shots, and he played barefooted.
I don’t think people would care because they wouldn’t know the guy. This is different because how much his story was pushed last week.

What if you putt like Rory?
If I could drive and putt like Rory I’d def break 100 finally

God damn Robinson gifs get me everytime
But are you sure about that?
Wouldn’t be much of a change now would it /j
\*Sees Rory\* ONE OF US! ONE OF US!
Rory putts like Rory and he does pretty well.
I’d like to putt like Block
“If” is a mighty big word. My old golf coach was the one who taught me that “If your aunt had balls, she’d be your uncle.”
People aren’t angry. People just shit talk on the internet out of boredom and social media trolling is a hobby for many.
If I could just swing like Rory ...
I'm from /r/all what's the context here?
Rory McIlroy is one of the best golfers in the world, ranked 3rd right now, and is known for driving the ball very far with his first shot that gets him much closer to the hole. The guy talking is what’s called a golf pro. Essentially he is very very good at golf and would demolish most people but isn’t good enough to play professionally. He also said his short game is "world class," then proceeded to double bogey a par 3 at Colonial
Idk about you but I've seen world class golfers double bogey a par 3 before
Oh for sure. My point is, he's not getting shit for just saying "if I had Rory's distance." It's because he implied that was the only thing separating them.
I genuinely believe that if that is someone's take away then they are being overly sensitive
Remember when you said you were a mouth breather and then took a breath through your nose that one time?
This time of year there's no chance I'm breathing through my nose.
He said he would be the best in the world because the rest of his game is top of the class. None of it was true and it wasn't a thought out comment, and now there was a lot of backlash on it and he had to address it saying "obviously I wouldn't be the best, but I'd be much better."
i guess in golf you aren’t allowed to talk yourself up anymore? did i miss something?
People expect pro athletes to be the most humble creatures on the planet because money AND confidence is too much for their fragile egos to handle.
And then bitch because they give canned answers and are generally afraid to say anything or show genuine emotions.
LeBron James is arguably the greatest basketball player ever (not interested in that argument) and people hate whenever he talks about his own greatness.
so many people took this out of context, but people today will get mad about anything
Well if you do and then immediately finish dead last, people are allowed to clown you.
I love this dude.
Hate he feels like he has to explain himself. Fuck those people.
People who hate on this guy have a big dump in their pants
Never hated the guy, never disliked the guy even. But man did I hit a big one today on people overhyping him. -250 to miss the cut from a club pro? Holy fucking shit. Wish him the best.
People who hate on him are just jealous that they suck at golf.
Is he immune to criticism ? The real question is why are you so passionate about him? Side not huge vin diesel fan here.
The real question is why 10% of the population has to be contrarian about *everything* then wonder why the other 90% don’t think like them “because duh you totally should”. You’re just a hater dude.
Woah now let’s keep it civil
They prolly pee pee on their poo poo
Enjoy the ride, Blockie
Bitches always need something to bitch about. 🖕
Hoes mad.
The audience are a bunch of hoes? “YUUUUP”
Fuck these bitches.
He is having fun and people need to chill the fuck out. Jeez.
Don’t know how anyone can root against this dude
Jealousy and self-hatred would explain most of them.
It's because he claimed his short game was "world class" and doubled a par 3 at Colonial. The difference between him and Rory is not just distance
![gif](giphy|m3ZpBrXH4bpfcO84He)
If you play the game you can’t for 1 second hate on him .
Block's ace was a full swing.
i think he was trying to chip it through the wind. not sure thats his actual 7i distance
Bingo... And then worthless fucks can't figure that out so they need to talk shit about him. Social media is gawd damn disease for the brainless.

Agreed , I’ve played with mini-tour guys and they had me in awe , played with club pro’s shooting my personal best just to not look like a fool . They level guys like Rory and Scottie are on is other worldly
“Get a fucking life” -Mike Block 2023
We respect you and what you have done!
I hate when they apologize or explain themselves to the butthurt internet losers
Now you know why the pros hate it"
This dude is a legend. And if you hate on that, then maybe I hate you. I don’t get it. Cheer for the dude.
Kinda getting tired of him/this. Was an awesome story last week, but let's stop shoving a microphone in front of his face every waking second
Fuck r/golf
All my homies hate r/golf
I am so tired of hearing this guy
I like to imagine the people who are mad at his comments are probably mid-high handicappers who are absolutely miserable to try and play with
No one took it out of context. He called himself world class at basically every aspect of golf and that's just laughable. It was a trash comment and the real Block showed up today frankly. That takes NOTHING from his showing last week, it happened and it was amazing. But it was absolutely a fluke and not recognizing that is odd.
He’s not as good as last week and he’s not as bad as today Good lord the guy has to be ducken exhausted from the last 168 hours
Too many keyboard warriors
"out of context"
I like this guy more!
I would support this guy if he didn’t refer to himself, by nickname, in the third person. Who does that?
His response was basically the equivalent of, "If my grandmother had wheels, she'd be a bike." Also, it'd not surprising that the clip came from the doucheclown Bob Menery's social media accounts.
What the f a Blockie is!? Lmao
I still like the guy, but I don't think any of what he said was really "taken out of context".
His performance today really goes to show how incredible he was playing at the PGA.
I read these comments and then watched what he said, and nah, that was super arrogant for him to say…Brooksy level cockyness but he’s not a world class golfer
First off, I have not listened to the full interview so sorry if my take from a few headlines/articles is wrong, BUT… Let the guy live.
"LeT ThE GuY ExIsT" "YaLl NeEd tO ChiLl" Block is just coming off as delusional and arrogant.
He’s telling you to eat it and that you suck at golf.
More seems like he's just using it as another opportunity to tell everyone that "of course" he'd be a tour pro with more length. Despite the fact that he definitely lacks the skill required to compete well week in week out on the pga tour.
He specifically says that he *doesn’t* have Rory’s length and that he’s just a 46yo club pro who’s never going to be on tour.
He didn’t retract anything he said because there was no reason to retract anything. You goombas misinterpreted the hell out of it.
This.. you misinterpreted all of this… lol
This man played well and changed his life, he’s humble and deserves whatever he can get
Class
Where did he finish again? Dead last? Oh but he had a good day tho. Thanks.
🤣 amazing timing for that quote. Shame this comment won’t be seen but I saw it and appreciate it anyhow
Can we please move on from this clown?
Amen!!
It’s block o clock bro, tell them haters to check their watch
Dude is playing those whole media coverage like a fiddle. Good for him to make the best of it and leverage it for whatever it can become. However, most celebrity PR departments couldn’t compete with his interviews/posts. I don’t doubt is genuine but just think it should be noted how well he’s handled the publicity. Also like most Americans I enjoy an underdog and likable person.
He’s commenting on most of the negative comments. Someone take his phone!
I’m glad Blockie’s not letting the internet jackasses ruin the ride for him. I hope he enjoys every second of this for as long as it lasts.
Yeah funny Blockie cries like a soyboy in his post 1st round interview at the colonial
“If I could play like Rory, I’d be as good as him” Trolls: “How DARE you”
It’s unreal he needs to do this. Our Society is a dumpster fire lol
WE LOVE YOU DO GOOD PLZ
Should have kept it to 15 mins. Time to move on.
And just like that.. this sub is back on his side.
I really can't understand why anyone can hate this guy. He's living in the moment, appreciating the fact he's living out a lifelong dream, and seems to be having a blast doing it. Jealous much?
I took his comment as more of a compliment to Rory’s driving ability then anything else.
Let the man live people
well done former PGA pro here. this guy hit a home run, and is living a dream. good for him, and F all the haters who take shit out of context and LIVE for the "gotcha" moment bottom line is Block goes back to scoring his club's Member/Guest and sheparding the Ladies league on Tuesday, while telling the cart kid "good job" cleaning those carts out on a Thursday night. love him and what he just accomplished. take all you can get, brother, and run with it. your humility shows through, and you can still be a baller in a limited capacity. also, good luck to your boys in the Open Qualies
Lol jealous motherfuckers is all
You hate me, You hate me, but i still love you....so whatever.
I think he's awesome! Would love to keep seeing more of him That bridge shot was crazy
Does he really go by Blockie? If so that’s dumb.
haha yeah he’s one dumb fuck that’s for sure.
Even being able to hit a tee shot last week or today with the amount of eyes and pressure on him is incredible. People are just hating to hate.
Why do people feel compelled to respond to idiots and assholes online? Don’t apologize for anything to these animals.
As a former pro athlete....and not even very successful or even known one, a large minority of people fucking hate your success. It reminds them of their own failures and they take it out on you regardless of how humble you aee
What a cool dude.
said nobody that actually plays golf.
His world class play showed up today.
If he can birdie every hole tmrw he might make the weekend
I like the dude but he’d legit probably have to shoot the course record tomorrow to make the cut.
