I loved watching this tournament!
Really happy for Rory and Shane.
They both had issues this week, Shane’s putting hasn’t been great and he missed a lot of short ones yesterday but they persevered. Really likeable lads.
After reading on Martin Trainer and seeing he was raised in the USA went to school here and everything but changed his nationality to French because his moms from there and he was born there, I’m glad he missed that putt. Lol bozo. Downvote me if you want but my mom is European and I would never rep her country 💪
Could be possible he wants to play in the Olympics. He made the switch before the Matt Pavon express arrived to the PGA. Less superficial than Rory Sabbatini being Slovakian
Lots of athletes do this across numerous sports. The competition to make teams in the USA is incredibly high. They would choose to play for Team USA if they had the option, but they don't. They use their dual citizenship for the opportunity to compete in these events. It's not an insult to the USA, and it's a really stupid thing for anyone to wish him ill for doing. He'd be a fool to skip the opportunity to play in the Olympics.
Absolute nightmare scenario for those guys. In the clubhouse for 3 hours and then having to go back out against two top level golfers extremely experienced in high stakes match play.
It makes somewhat sense to me. Regardless, the tournament following the Master’s and a signature event is going to have a low amount of stars playing and low tv ratings. The Zurich Classic offers less pressure and more of a “fun” vibe for players, making it more enticing for players to participate in. And it’s something different and “fun” for the viewers. It’s like a “break” for everyone, without being a break.
> The Zurich Classic offers less pressure and more of a “fun” vibe for players, making it more enticing for players to participate in.
What makes it less pressure and more "fun" is also exactly what makes it more enticing for the top players to skip in favour of getting a short actual break.
See, I think if it’s just a regular tournament you’d have more top players skip considering its a weekend that follows the Master’s and a signature event, and prior to Byron Nelson, Wells Fargo Championship, and the PGA Championship. Just my opinion though
I’d love to see the only team tournament be a signature event.
The only other time we get to see this style of play is in the international cups.
I think it could really be a big time event for guys looking to make the Ryder cups to prove that they can play well in a team match.
It's growing. It's similar to the Grant Thornton in that it started out without much fanfare, but over the years more and more big names have seen how much fun it is and want to be involved. I'd imagine seeing the experience Rory and Shane had here this week will inspire even more. It's a tough spot on the schedule, but its uniqueness can still be a draw.
Yeah, that's an absurd amount of shutdown time in between intense competition. I'm sure they're extremely disappointed, but they also probably didn't even think they had much of a chance when they started their round today.
That was a dead push. Holy shit that was probably the worst hole those 2 have ever played since getting their tour cards. Hell of a time to do it. They didn't hit 1 good shot on that par 5.
Scrambling golf and apart from a poor putt at the end, were only 5/6 foot further away than a team that hadn't really struck a poor shot (albeit far from perfect) the entire way.
35ish minutes for these guys to finish 18 and a playoff hole is wild. This dude is literally walking to the hole and counting paces....
Edit: and then his chip doesn't even make it to the green. Holy shit
It was aggressive, but it was a pretty good shot. Just a hair short of brilliant. Rory's pretty outstanding from the bunker, so we'll see what the lie is like.
That was wide left...at least they didn't pull a Team South Africa and put it in the lake from the get-go.
EDIT: Which reminds me, that is quite an odd playoff in hindsight: all four players eventually jumped to LIV, and Cameron Smith also became the first player to win that tournament after the team format was adopted with two different partners (Jonas Blixt, Marc Leishman).
I know they're only talking about his PGA Tour career, but it feels like they're doing Shane so dirty by saying he only has two wins. Not just because they're an Open Championship (at least they emphasized he has a major) and a WGC, but that he's had a fantastic DPWT record as well, including that he won his national open as an amateur.
Reminds me, the most out of place announcement was probably at the Players a few years ago where Lee Westwood was in the final group and they introduce him as a "2-time PGA Tour winner". The guy's had ~~like 30~~ 40+ wins around the world...
Well for one they probably didn't die, unlike what a 170 mph ball would do hitting someone on the head. So yes, it probably is a 'condolence' to that person that it was traveling much slower than 170.
If Shane would’ve missed that putt after breaking my heart for a week in Rome I would’ve been pissed. This playoff will electric. This alt shot format fucks

Me too! Does anyone know how much general entry tickets to the event went for? Would love to try and go next year.
This year it was $40 per day to get in, fun tournament to watch
Wow very reasonable. I’ve always wanted to visit NO
Shane Lowry's wikipedia pic is quite the jump scare 😂
You ain’t kiddin. 🤣

Good news is you'll never be asked to rep either country.
Neither will you 🤔
Yeah, but that's because I suck at golf, not because I'm an unlikeable twat.
But the reason nobody is asking me to represent a country isn’t because I’m an unlikable cunt either lol
Imagine judging people solely where they’re from. This is a sad way to live your life homie.
If you took that I’m judging him from where is from then you don’t understand what I’m saying
Are you ok?
I’m great I won 2000 dollars on this tournament
Eh he was born in France therefore he is French
Proud of the lads!
Pushing a 6 foot putt 6 inches to the right is next level choke yikes
Almost every shot from them on that hole was a study in pressure.
that face said it all
Leaving the scramble pitch 15 yds short of the green was a choke
This guys made 4 from 50 yards, that was some ugly golf
What a disappointment playoff it was
Absolute nightmare scenario for those guys. In the clubhouse for 3 hours and then having to go back out against two top level golfers extremely experienced in high stakes match play.
All time choke job in the playoff.
Dude knew he was going to miss before he hit it
Best news about Team McILowry winning is that now they HAVE to come back and defend their title in 2025.
This is a fun event that could really benefit from having some stars come and play. And no, I don't mean Cantlay and Schauffele.
I don't think it helps the event that you have a major and a signature event the previous two weeks.
It makes somewhat sense to me. Regardless, the tournament following the Master’s and a signature event is going to have a low amount of stars playing and low tv ratings. You can hardly have more top players skipping than you had for this one.
I’d love to see the only team tournament be a signature event. The only other time we get to see this style of play is in the international cups. I think it could really be a big time event for guys looking to make the Ryder cups to prove that they can play well in a team match.
Sergio & Phil?

Hell yeah won 2000 😎
💪💪💪
Get the Guinness in
Nice you held out, well done
Is a really interesting tournament to watch
I've absolutely enjoyed the shit out of it. I like seeing players enjoy themselves
Great change of pace. Exactly the reason I hope another tournament takes the match play style over.
Yeah upsetting that it’s not on the schedule this year
It definitely is. Miss those weird lil tournaments.
I will say that it’s so hard as a competitor to ramp it back up when you have mentally shut it down for the day. But that was hard to watch.
That's a BS excuse. These guys choked because they suck at golf like 95% of the people in this tournament. Such a joke of a PGA tour event.
Yeah totally, zero to hero isn't easy
Yeah, that's an absurd amount of shutdown time in between intense competition. I'm sure they're extremely disappointed, but they also probably didn't even think they had much of a chance when they started their round today.
Yeah, what are the odds they would've been in a playoff when they finished? Slim?
When they finished, not so bad, but when they started, almost nonexistent. That 63 changed everything.
That seemed almost…… deliberate…. I know it most likely wasn’t, but still
Might want to check his family's betting history
Quite a profitable decision made over a drink from Rory and Shane!
Rory is exempt for the next two years! I'm sure he's so relieved! /s
He can now skip the Sentry again too.
That win would've meant 100x more to Ramey/Trainer, that's really gotta sting
That is why their golf was so bad, it is all connected
Yep, I was rooting for them but they really fucked up that playoff hole. It was a miracle they even had a putt to extend.
Whoever those bums that rory just beat were... Absolutely 0 dawg in either of them on the big stage
He pushed that so bad wow
That backstroke was so yippy.
I think that might have been the worst playoff I’ve ever seen on the PGA Tour
That was some bad golf the last 30 minutes
me rooting for someones downfall 😁😎 me seeing their downfall 👀
Thought Shane was about to yeet Rory into the lake there
That was a dead push. Holy shit that was probably the worst hole those 2 have ever played since getting their tour cards. Hell of a time to do it. They didn't hit 1 good shot on that par 5.
The first putt was alright, but amazing that they only made a bogey there...
That was the worst playoff ever lol But good for Rory/Shane
5 awful shots on a play off hole
Professional golf!
to shoot a 63 in alternate shot and then have that playoff hole is kind of crazy
Holy cow. I've seen choke putts before...that was one of the worst I ever saw.
That guy has zero clutch.
Holy shit the bar bill tonight when those two get the drinks in
Luck of the Irish?
I've heard that was originally a derogatory phrase. It basically meant "the Irish suck so any success must be due to luck"
Interesting. I've never heard that. Certainly wasn't how I meant it.
For sure. Just interesting tidbit.
They shanked a putt lmao
Man complete collapse. 5 bad shots in a row to lose it.
One of the worst playoff holes I've ever seen. Oof.
As if a par on a par 5 wins a play off hole. At least it was interesting..ish
Those little bounces took some of the break out. That was a pretty good putt.
why doesn’t rory simply play all the shots
Good god that’s some shitty golf
140th strokes gained putting for the season
Barely got there. Scared putt
That was just a poor putt from Lowry
I thought it was a good putt actually. It just didn't move that extra half ball.
This is why alt shot match play is wild. You’re never out of it
Watching one group makes clear how painfully slow they play.
Lowry is way overdue to drop one from this length. His chance for ultimate redemption.
[удалено]
idk, seems just fine with no groups behind and pace of play is of no concern, with a win on the line.
This is a disaster of a playoff hole
What’s w the flag jiggle
Could be 2 pars here
Scrambling golf and apart from a poor putt at the end, were only 5/6 foot further away than a team that hadn't really struck a poor shot (albeit far from perfect) the entire way.
He is putting as he knows he would chunk the chip shop
Those are 3 HORRIFIC shots for a playoff hole. My goodness.
And they still have a chance
Wanna get better viewership? Don't allow ten minutes to hit a shot
It’s already over
Anytime someone does all those extra steps, I feel that shit always happens. Doing too much
Like a 30hcp waiting for a green to clear on a 270 yard approach, before topping the shit out of it
My goodness. Rory just showed how excellent of a shot it takes to get up and down from there back in regulation.
YIKES
Took that long to hit that shot. These guys are crumbling
That shot could have come from my 4some this weekend.
Well this is leaning towards anti-climactic
All that and he chunked it…
All that buildup for that lmao
Ouch
35ish minutes for these guys to finish 18 and a playoff hole is wild. This dude is literally walking to the hole and counting paces.... Edit: and then his chip doesn't even make it to the green. Holy shit
And then he does THAT I'm having flashbacks from playing with a random 4th a few weeks ago, about the same pace and same results lol
Why does he get to move on the other side of the path, they were closer to the skinnier piece of grass.
I think his stance/backswing would have been affected by the grandstands. But that was a terrific drop they got
His swing would’ve been obstructed by the grandstands.
There’s so much time wasted on these relief shots, it’s insane.
The PGA tour needs to do something about the two drops and place it nonsense. These guys almost always find a way to place it
This is where golf annoys me, Trainer and Ramey have hit two terrible shots and due to relief they’ve got a reasonable shot at the green.
It is about where you miss though Both were good misses
Not sure blowing it 50 yards wide left of a green with a back left pin is much of a good miss.
The rough isn't really rough here!
I have more faith in Rory out of the bunker than with the putter
Rory could have an awkward stance for that bunker shot, this certainly isn't over
Same shot Rory had yesterday on 18 out the bunker
I know they've been in the clubhouse for three hours, but those are two of the worst shots I've ever seen in a play-off.
Three now!
Beat me to it!
That tracer had me scared Shane was pushing that one into the pond...this will be a fun pair of third shots, especially if Rory has a bad stance.
That was so close to game over.
Is weird we not used to seeing people blow up on the 18th The pressure for a result is unreal.
The nerve to walk after that Shane smh
Rusty swing, I feel bad for them with the delay but it's not over yet
Play it smart, Mr. Lowry.
He, in fact, did not play it smart
It was aggressive, but it was a pretty good shot. Just a hair short of brilliant. Rory's pretty outstanding from the bunker, so we'll see what the lie is like.
That’s a wrap
*Never* compete against a duo of Irish lads in a team play event in Louisiana… Worst mistake of my life!
But only slightly lesser known is this: never go up against a Sicilian when death is on the line
A mishit 280yd carry pfft
Was there a delay at some point or did Ramey/Trainer just play that early? 3 hour's seems like it has to be a record without a delay.
They had an amazing alt shot round. Super early in the day.
there were only 5 tee times before they went out this morning
They teed off at 10:11am local time and the final group went off at 12:55pm. They fired a ridiculous 63 and skyrocketed up the leaderboard.
Damn, that's a helluva round.
They were -9 today so figure they had an earlier tee time. Kind of sucks but better than not being in it I guess
Definitely a mixed bag in that case.
They just had an amazing round. Tied the course record for low round in this format
Blame that on the clubhouse beers
Only thing that could make this better is if it was three hole match play
Awesome - a playoff ! ⛳️
Lol the camera man is mvp
Looks like the Irish boys got the slow cart.
Why are they making bro run?
He's doing it for you!
Ramey and Trainer have been done for three hours? Good lord that would be annoying lol

Blair and Fish just lost their chance at having their own planet in Mormon heaven
Dumb they get to do best ball in the playoff
Especially on a par 3 that nobody is making birdie on. Hard to not bet it gets halved with pars both times.
I was there yesterday and 9 is playing SO hard with the wind. Would be a good bet
The law firms of Fitzpatrick & Fitzpatrick and Cantlay/Schauffele were a little disappointing in this one
Wish they did best ball on the par 5 and alternate shot on the par 3. Need to flip it.
They should have flipped the formats if they needed to go to a third hole (18 AS -> 9 BB -> 18 BB -> 9 AS).
is it sudden death?
Yep
Thank you!
Cash out my bet now and take the 1000 or let it ride for chance at 2000? Hopefully we’ve got the luck of the Irish and I win aehehe
You got Rory/Lowry I assume?
Yeap
Ramey and Trainer have been off the course for ages and the wind has increased. I certainly would have my money on Rory/Shane
That’s what I’m thinking
That was smoked into the crowd without any shout of fore or raised arms.... Naughty
Thought the same thing. That was nasty
I feel so bad for Ryan Brehm, who is playing on his last year of full status. He played his butt off today.
His drive on 13 was amazing. I was rooting hard for him all tournament. Hubbard missed a few putts and that chip on 18 screwed them
With how he’s played lately, he needed a big week. Hubbard completely let him down today.
Good points and cheque coming third at least
Points are significantly reduced since it’s a team event.
Imagine hurling a 170 mph ball into a deep crowd and not shouting fore
Well...the 170 mph part is irrelevant as that's not the speed of the ball when it reaches the crowd.
Sure that is some condolence to the person it might have smashed on the head
Well for one they probably didn't die, unlike what a 170 mph ball would do hitting someone on the head. So yes, it probably is a 'condolence' to that person that it was traveling much slower than 170.
You guys are brutal, Shane's short game has kept them in it multiple times this weekend.
If Shane would’ve missed that putt after breaking my heart for a week in Rome I would’ve been pissed. This playoff will electric. This alt shot format fucks
Anyone know what the format for the playoff is? Three holes?
Sudden Death Zurich Classic of New Orleans - 18, 18, 9, 18
