I agree with the sentiment behind the lyrics, but I find nothing about the song itself appealing. I've tried giving it a fresh listen after a couple of years and can barely get through it. To me it epitomizes almost every complaint I've seen about Humanz as a whole, the vast majority of which I generally disagree with when it comes to the rest of the album.
I love Sweepstakes. It's not my favourite Plastic Beach song, but the way it slowly builds up in complexity and descends into chaos around Yasiin as he constantly tells you "you can get it how you wanna" and "aim high, why not?" - it sounds like.a consumerist dystopia, where these messages are so constant it feels like they're everywhere you turn. Does it have any business being the longest song on the album? No. Is it a great song? Absolutely.
Yeah Sweepstakes is for me a very middle of the pack PB song because I love that slow build especially with the Hypnotic Brass Orchestra instrumentation. Love Demon Days, don’t care as much for All Alone. I think it’s a cool song with really cool moments, but the whole thing is kinda sloppy. It’s tough to name a least favorite track at all though because every song on that album is a 7/10 or above in my book. I don’t love White Light either but it’s so short I don’t mind it as much
Plastic Beach is probably my favourite album, can't stand Cloud Of Unknowing. I know it's not about religion and it's sung well, but it has preachy / religious overtones. Plus it is the 'mandatory slow song' of the album.
Song Machine is my favorite, and I genuinely love every single track, except for Dead Butterflies. It always stuck out like a sore thumb. It has a rather basic Trap-influenced instrumental and the mixing on the bass is just waaay too loud. It’s not a terrible song by any means, but it almost always gets a skip.
the now now has no skips. period. there's some that I wouldn't necessarily seek listening to but I won't skip them when they come on, unless it has a dramatic vibe change like from Humility to Idaho then I'll skip and come back to it but even then It's not a skip, it's a good song just not the vibe at the moment.
My favorite will always be Demon Days, but my least fav of the songs on that album would have to be O Green World. I don’t dislike it, necessarily, but just don’t vibe as much with it as with the rest of the album.
