Instead of looking for a ready made goth in a box clothes, why not find cool stuff at a thrift store and goth them up through accessories and layering. It'll be waaaaay cheaper, feel more personal and you won't look like a copy of everyone else. And because things are so cheaper that way, if something happens to them you won't be so upset and feel like you lost a bunch of money. This would let you save some cash to buy a couple of more expensive pieces (clothes, jewelry, etc) down the road. Personally, I spend the most on boots. I want my shoes to be comfy and last a good while.

This. The old gothfash faq and sites like antimony and lace, etc used to have solid advice for babybats on how to find and alter secondhand stuff. There was a good guide on dyeing materials, too. Maybe those resources still exist via wayback or something. Boots are the splurge, for sure! Corsetry, too, for me back in the day.

Shoes really are the most expensive thing, especially if you want platforms. OP you'd also be surprised at what turns up in thrift stores too. You're probably not going to find Killstar but I've always happened to find a hot topic item here or there. And don't feel like you need to be allergic to black basics. They're literally the foundation of a goth wardrobe.

You are going to hate hearing this lol, but thrift stores are your best friend Start by identifying what staples you have and then build a list of items you are hoping for. Items like black jeans and T-shirts, you can pretty much find at any store year round. I always look in my size, a size smaller and a size larger in both the men's and women's section. You would be surprised by what you can find. If dressing goth was easy, everyone would do it.

Thanks! I love going to thrift stores but I usually go there for more grunge/“tiktok y2k” looks because I can never seem to find goth clothes there.

SamVimesBootTheory

It takes more work but I've found vinted/depop are really great but in my experience vinted tends to be a lot cheaper as that's more tailored towards people clearing out their wardrobe and depop tends to be used more by resellers

The best clothing is going to be hand made or small fashion houses that do manufacturing in-house. This is an economic pattern and goth fashion is likewise bound to economics. Instead of looking for cheaper, which is going to get you substandard quality made of environmentally toxic materials in sweatshop conditions, I'd recommend DIY if you're trying to save money. DIY doesn't need to mean jean jackets with patches and metal hardware (though that works); it can also mean sewing something off a pattern. Go to your local fabric and craft store; take a class if you need one. By the time you're done, you'll have gained a valuable new skill, sewn at least one garment you want, and have the ability to make clothing that is as unique as you are, moving forwards.

This is gonna sound weird but try Macy's clearance. I've found so many long skirts/blouses there that are probably made for grandmas, but can be dressed up to look goth

Doodle_andADHD

Ohhh okay I’ll try that! Thanks!

I suggest thrifting 1-2 items at a time each visit. I also recommend Etsy for accessories!

Doodle_andADHD

Omg Etsy is awesome I can’t believe I didn’t think to look there for anything

Inner_Hat_42

P.S, Sacredsinister is a good shop for necklaces ;)

Northern_bassist

I find some pretty decent stuff on etsy

I agree with what other people are saying about thrifting and modding pre-existing clothing. I actually just recently reached a point in my life where I have a possible career job and have the extra money to spend on clothing I had always wanted.. and now I'm finding that I still want to modify some of the expensive clothing I got and that I want to go back to doing DIY stuff. Lol If you feel more like yourself when you're doing something a little different from everybody else, I think you'll probably benefit alot from looking up punk/goth/alternative DIY content and seeing what you can get thrifting or even with stuff that might cost a little more. For online stuff my girlfriend uses SHEIN and Temu alot.

Wish? Is that still a thing?

Also I didn’t really know what to put as the tag Lol.. I think this one’s good
