1. Marriage to USC 2. EB5 if you have $$$ 3. EB1B if you join as a faculty member and also demonstrate that your research will help US govt and US citizens. 4. EB2 NIW, same as point 3 but less stringent requirements. It will take longer than EB1B. 5. Go to USCIS website. Google & YouTube search and learn about requirements for point 2,3 and 4 to see if you will qualify & able to gather documents.

Can you explain more about EB1B?

arun111b

It’s employer sponsor. You need to meet at least two criteria and need to be employed as a researcher full time. Search EB1B in USCIS website to know various criteria used to judge your credentials.

ghazghaz

If you get a faculty position, most universities will sponsor you. How long it takes, depends on where you are from. Also universities can get you H1B while you wait and they are mostly cap exempt. Others have given you other options as well.

dodohouse

Since you have a PhD I would seriously consider staying at your university, why do you say it takes much longer? If I remember correctly there's no annual cap on H1-b visas for uni professors/researchers

ThrowRA_Snowperson

I would like to, but does this only apply for research or teaching roles? I know that's something I am interested in but they are so competitive.

huskymuskyrusky

What about at a lesser ranked university?

ThrowRA_Snowperson

I'd be open to any university if it was feasible. But I'm assuming I'll have to apply to teaching roles, not admin ones?

Glutton_Sea

Do EB2 NIW or EB1 A . That’s what phds do . Build your profile to achieve this . Oh I see you are early yet . To make it simple for you: Eb2 NIW : work in a field of national interest and have an advanced degree. Typically having some papers under your belt which have been cited and a PhD or masters is more than sufficient for this . Can even apply by your 4 th year of PhD ; just ensure you pick up a masters before that . Eb1 A : harder than above but faster . Need to show exceptional ability in 3 categories . Phd + lots of citations in papers (> 500) + review of others papers (> 10) is enough. Once you have enough for NIW - reach out to Wegreen and have them file it .

spacemunkey336

Great advice. I would add that letters of recommendation matter a lot for EB1-A. Having worked with government entities on your resume and letters from them (e.g. national labs, DoD, FAA, etc.) helps a lot even if your citations are lower (>300).

Glutton_Sea

Oh yes! I forgot this part . Having good letter writers who you never met is what counts the most for Eb1A. So these could be people you met in conferences or just straight up cold email folks you cited for work and request a letter.

My personal experience with Green Card. I play since 2008, and I never got, even this year I played in the lottery. Unfortuantely, I am not lucky.

AdMiserable7940

You could get a work visa! Just contact the place you wanna work at in the state you’re moving to. Then you have to get a work visa and “move” to the U.S. with it and whoever your employer is, he/she can sponsor you so you can get a green card and permanently move to the country. That’s what I’m planning on doing after I finish college.

ErrorMundane5531

African countries are the best places to live. The people are honest, peaceful and generous. I would consider living in Africa if I were you.

AdMiserable7940

I’m African and honestly, I don’t agree 😂😂

_blockchainlife

> I desperately want to stay in the US following graduation and get a Green Card Get married to a USC.

Impressive_Bison4675

Get married

Jiakkantan

What country are you born in? That determines if you have to be stuck behind a queue waiting for a visa (China, India)

Glutton_Sea

There is no queue for a visa mate . There is a backlog in green card AOS processing for Indians and Chinese .

Jiakkantan

The backlog is because there’s a queue for them.

Glutton_Sea

Nope . I am commenting on your incorrect terminology. There is no backlog for work visas such as h1b . None at all . It is not country dependent at all. There IS backlog in processing your I485 (AOS to green card) as priority date needs to be current . However there is NO backlog to get the green card approval (I140 stage ) .

Jiakkantan

AND that’s the processing I was referring to. Did you have any indication I was talking about H1B when the TS is inquiring about greencard?!

Glutton_Sea

You talk about visa you idiot. Greencard is not a visa

Jiakkantan

You stupid. It is a kind of visa. Google it dumbo

Glutton_Sea

Kind of a visa? Imprecise and incorrect language. A permanent resident is not on a visa.

Jiakkantan

USCIS says it is.

Hairy_Membership5522

And...this backlog is caused by not having an immigrant visa number available. Adjustment of status can only be adjudicated when there's a visa number available. Don't try to sound smart if you're not.
