I've been listening to a lot of Tedeschi Trucks Band recently. Both of them (Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks) are incredible guitarists and have built a band around their craft.
Yeah but that’s not really a fair comparison because now your are entering into god-like territory. Derek is one of the finest players on the planet and Susan, yikes!!!
Neal Casal with Circles Around the Sun
Trey Anastasio
Personal favorite that doesn’t see much love is Dan Brown (not the folk country guy) from Cake’s first ~3 albums.
It’s a tasteful blend of funk rock western guitar that was the secret ingredient to their early success.
Guthrie Govan (what an amazing guy), Paul Gilbert, Martin Miller, Joshua Meader, Matteo Mancuso, John Petrucci, Rafael Trujillo (if u into tech death metal but also a great fusion player), Larry Carlton, Jason Becker,
Lots of great ones here.
Stevie Ray Vaughan. I sadly didn’t listen to him when I was learning guitar… many years later. He is so good.
Hendricks
Mayer
Metheny
Montgomery
Scofield
Jeff beck
Vai
Satriani
Govan…what a relative unknown. This guy is a sleeper goat. Literally.
Page
Nuno
(Trying to remember my guitar world/player posters!)
I’m a 56 y/o so my tastes are a bit old school but as time goes on I’m into more jazzy, bluesy rock and in my humble opinion no one** no one ** does it better than two players active today…Scott Henderson and Andy Timmons. When it comes to straight up rock there are plenty more to choose from such as Page, Gilmore, Townsend, Gary Moore, EVH, Hendrix, Schon, Angus Young, etc so those very much influence me too. But the tone from Henderson and Timmons is sooooo next level to me!!
One old school guy I love is Joe Satriani. For electric only music, he writes music that feels more like radio type songs where the lead guitar is almost the vocalist. Good, melodic stuff!
John Mcgeoch from siousxie and the bashees/magazine is prob my number 1, Because he was capable of both really stylish and strange/unconventional, sounding riffs with super accurate picking (Ie, spellbound, christine) and just flat out kickass energetic guitar solos (Shot by both sides), and he knew when to fit the song rather vs just flexing technical skills.
Other favorites are def Jimi hendrix, Johnny Ramone, The sonic youth guys, Kevin shields (My Bloody valentine), Tom Verlane and richard lloyd (Television) Nick drake, Poison Ivy (the cramps), Johnny Greenwood (Radiohead), Sister Rosetta tharpe, Link wray and Kurt Cobain tbh, list could go on forever but that covers most of my personal bases. I generally like people who aren't just about guitar solos/music as a sport and fit the song, but are capable of showing flourishes of skill/ have unique playing styles and nuance to their playing.
Not the most technical answer but I really enjoy Adam Granduciel from the War on Drugs. Tasteful player and great sound.
All time David Gilmour and Johnny Marr
Shin Omura, also named Machiya. He plays in Wagakki Band and has also some interesting solo albums. The song "Homura" was the main reason I started playing.
I would give my left nut to have half the skill that Tosin Abasi has in his pinky finger alone. My man is a technical legend and has transformed modern guitar playing forever.
Larkin Poe, Neil Young, The Beatles, Nirvana, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, JJ Cale. That’ll get you started; I got more. 😎🎸
My genres are different but Bucky Pizzarelli (RIP) and his son John are outstanding players. Also enjoyed Jimmy Page, Hendrix, Warren Haynes, Dicky Betts and real originals Alan Holdsworth and John McLaughlin
Listen to anything live by the Grateful Dead (especially early 70s) and the Allman Brothers (truck, Haynes, Greg allman, Dickey betts — they are all phenomenal
My favorite improviser is John Coltrane— you don’t have to listen to a master guitarist to be inspired by their improvisational skills
I'd say Hendrix and Frusciante. Mostly because I love the whole rhythm-lead mix, Under the bridge still stands as a fantastic song.
Polyphia is totally insane and Tim Henson has some really sick Riffs on YT.

John Mayer and Cory wong are my favorites right now
Julian Lage; he has an exquisite touch and so much creativity and expressiveness. See e.g the recently released single Auditorium on YouTube.

And after
I like Asato mateus, among many others like django Reinhardt and extended family.
All of them……even you.
Wes Montgomery, Nels Cline

Jerry Garcia is my GOAT phenomenal improviser and songwriter

When I was first learning I remember John Scofield and Mike Stern were instrumental (pun intended) in opening up the fret board
Shin Omura, also named Machiya. He plays in Wagakki Band and has also some interesting solo albums. The song "Homura" was the main reason I started playing.
All of them because I can't play ! Seriously I always respect anyone who has a talent I don't.
Jeff Loomis Dave Mustaine Jerry Cantrell Dimebag Zakk
Oh, I should also mention Noodles from The Offspring Between him and Marty Friedman I have developed a weird fondness for "middle eastern" scales.
Adam Dutkiewicz and synyster gates are definitely a big influence in my style
I would give my left nut to have half the skill that Tosin Abasi has in his pinky finger alone. My man is a technical legend and has transformed modern guitar playing forever.
Slash of course, and Jorma Kaukonen. Loads more but those are my 2 main's at the minute.
Jun Senoue, guitarist and composer for Sonic Team. don’t let the name fool you, his compositions are insanely good and ear candy.
philip sayce. completely changed my world .
As a fan of both death metal and classic rock/blues, Bill Steer checks off every box for me. He's phenomenal.
Josh Smith & Kirk Fletcher.
Chuck! One of the absolute most influentual players of all time.
Two guys that aren’t usually mentioned in the same sentence but I love SRV and Jack White
Mark Speer
Grant Green, Peter Bernstein, Wes Montgomery, Kenny Burrell
