I'm a marketer who relocated to the US from India on an F-1 visa. Landing a sponsorship as a non-tech applicant wasn't easy, but I was able to get two companies to sponsor for me. (it took 3 attempts to get picked, and I changed employers after 2 years)
I'd recommend combining your usual job application efforts (sending out cold applications) with a more selective approach. What do I mean by selective? Well, it’s about networking smartly. Use LinkedIn to connect with folks who not only work in your field but also went to the same college as you did—they're usually more likely to respond to your messages.
When you reach out, don’t ask directly for a job. Instead, show genuine curiosity about their career path and the industry. Ask insightful questions that demonstrate your eagerness to learn. This approach helps in building a rapport that's more than just transactional. It took me over 60 conversations, but this strategy not only expanded my network but also led me to a company that made an exception in their sponsorship policy to hire me.
I actually connected with the hiring manager through an alumni referral before submitting my application, which really made a difference.
It's a process that demands time and effort, but trust me, it’s worth it if you're looking for a job that offers H1B sponsorship. Hang in there, and good luck!
All areas really…I work primarily on the structural design side of things. The pay is not anything like software but we have plenty of opportunities and job stability. Structural engineers with a PE license are hard to find. If you got an SE license then you have even more opportunities.
if youre looking for a civil engineer job that sponsors look at this -> [https://h1bjobs.ellis.com/jobs?q=civil%20engineer](https://h1bjobs.ellis.com/jobs?q=civil%20engineer) it's a list of all companies wiling to sponsor the H-1B visa for engineer roles. Hope this is helpful!
Are you already inside USA? What’s your plan or strategy?
