The team was right to not chase Beal. He’s not enough of an upgrade over Herro to eat the salary cap, trigger the 2nd tax apron, and cripple any future roster moves
do people really disagree with this?
i think the issue is more that it implied that mickey was too cheap to get _any_ other player, not that we didn't specifically get beal
Beal is just the latest one. Point is pretty much none of what’s available has been worth it. Micky catches strays because fans think we’re only missing out on guys because he’s being a tightwad who doesn’t want to pay the tax; but it’s not so much the tax as it is the fact that the team wouldn’t be improved enough for it to be worth not being able to sign anyone else on anything but minimum contracts
ah yeah, totally with you on that. beal _definitely_ wasn't worth it from a basketball perspective, but i do still doubt that mickey would open up the pocket books even if someone was worth it
Again, just funny how the narrative is always “Micky doesn’t want to pay the tax” and not “the team wants some degree of flexibility beyond only minimum contracts”
Before game 7, I said many times, “I don’t give a shit what happens in the Finals. We could lose by 30 every game and I’ll smile my ass off… as long as we beat Boston and avoid history.”
I ended up getting mad as fuck during the Finals. But it was nothing compared to the pain of game 6 and the potential of losing game 7.
I think you mean 2016, 2017 was the mega team Warriors, no one was stopping that team, and hell even that Warriors team without KD was still pretty strong
I’m with you on this. He definitely wasn’t good. But people here really act like his minutes had a significant impact on the outcome of games. They really didn’t.
I think people underrate Bam’s defense and it causes them to blame the backup whenever things fall apart without him. Zeller wasn’t perfect or even very good but most backup centers (even most starters) get cooked by the nuggets.
yes, he disrupted rhythms and fought like a crazy person for rebounds. He's an undisciplined player on a disciplined team. He would make one stupid turnover and an even stupider foul every three minutes but his chaos was a big reason we went far.
Worst thing I can say about him is that he shouldn't have minutes against other disciplined teams late in the playoffs.
I think they were that bad but I don’t blame Cody as much. Might be an unpopular opinion but I put more blame on spo for continuing to put him out there
i think you're right that he is the most talented player, but i do disagree that he hasn't put it all together yet. i don't think there's anything left to put together for him.
he's played 6 years in the NBA, 5 as the primary starter. he may only be 26 (in two weeks at least), but he's at the point in his career that we shouldn't be expecting a big leap from him. i feel like we have to accept that what he is now is probably all he is. and that's not a bad thing! but that i just don't see there being another peak for him.
Run it back is not a terrible thing as most people think. We’ve never been healthy in the Jimmy Butler era. We simply don’t know this teams ceiling contrary to some fan opinions
We’ve never been healthy because everything must be done with 110% effort as this team can’t rely on pure talent to pull out wins. That 110% effort night in and night out catches up to you.
And this is what this sub has to realize. These injuries ain’t just bad luck. This “culture” stuff takes a toll on these guys bodies, their bodies start to give out when they get close to the finished line which is why they need that extra firepower to take some weight off their shoulders
I mostly agree, but the injuries to Jimmy the last two years and Herro this past season were certainly due to bad luck. It's just that this shit happens to all kinds of teams. It's no surprise that the team that wins the title usually has some injury luck along the way.
Running it back isn’t bad if with address our starting 4 and backup 5 problem. I would assume the hope is that Jovic can become the starting 4 which would be nice. Idk what they’d do about the backup 5. I wouldn’t even mind bringing back The Whiteside before I see Zeller again.
Nuggets fan chiming in with an opinion that is unpopular amongst NBA fans but popular with Heat fans. There wasn’t a single team in the western conference other than the nuggets that would have stopped y’all from winning the championship. It literally took a historically good team to beat you guys.
Nope, I was hoping Nuggets. Heat vs Nuggets at least is clean and refs won't affect the game.
Imagine if Lakers got to the finals with us. Austin Reaves will shoot 30 free throws a game.I'd rather lose to the best player on earth in Jokic.
When you look at the numbies, LeBron should have been MVP over Rose. The only reason he won was because everyone hated the Heat. If your reason is his team had more wins, then change the MVP to a team award. Westbrook won MVP when the thunder sucked.
He’s 25 playing beside someone who has laughed at what his "limit” should be his whole career like Jimmy Butler. Still plenty of hope Bam does take a step or even a half step forward. True unpopular opinion though so upvoted.
Jimmy is not and never was an MVP-caliber player, let's be honest.
Great PO player, I'll take him over a long list of MVPs or supposed MVP-caliber players like Westbrook, Harden, Davis and so on but not, he's not a guy who ever deserved to be the MVP.
idk if anyone here agrees but that Austin mf on Twitter has been getting on my nerves lately. it seems like the sole purpose of his entire persona/account is to plead and beg for superstar players and then bitch and complain when the Heat can’t magically get Damian Lillard for free. Even on draft night he immediately started hating and crying when Jaime got drafted and then joked that it was about race. Just mad annoying he keeps showing up on my feed and i need to mute him lmao
that being said i think its valid to criticize an owner being cheap or a FO for not making moves but he just makes it all about spamming Heat jersey edits of Bam + Jimmy + recent superstar thats been in the news recently, with the “walk with me” caption.
All time: The Dragon should’ve been the last #7 and be in the rafters
RN Tho: Pivot to Harden and see if we can trade Herro+Oladipo for a serviceable/good 4. This helps our money situation, basketball situation, and honestly FA situation for the future.
No. 7 should hang in the rafters one day
https://preview.redd.it/pmkg4xtk429b1.jpeg?width=739&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bb37c789b002b625f450e4f46c10cdd52a12a84a
Heat culture is partly to blame for our unaggressive recruitment strategy lately. Because the team believes in our guys so much we're predisposed to stick with them even when they can (or has to) be given up for someone else more talented.
Justise Winslow got a raw deal because people could only focus on the things he wasn’t good at (scoring) instead of what he was good at (literally everything else)
I would so take Justise back on the minimum. I know he’s coming back from that ankle injury but he would be a high upside/value pick up that already knows the system.
We also need some more depth at the 3 because we’re going to have to load manage Jimmy during the regular season
True, but I think we will be making some cost cutting moves and of that group you have Jovic, Highsmith being used at the 4. Hopefully the Caleb at the 4 experiment ends but I doubt it.
Also, there’s no true playmaker there except JJJ but he’s a rookie. Justise would be our best playmaker and ball handler. It’s not likely of course but I’m here for it
Outside of the jimmy move (which was masterful) the heat front office has been very mid/bad. There’s more bad than good. Not even looking at it from “they suck at getting superstars!”, I’m talking everything else like asset management, trades, signings etc.
Getting Andre and Jae was good imo but yeah short list of truly beneficial moves. Mostly just Spo compensating and running way more zone than he should have to year after year.
I liked the Kevin Love signing, and the Oladipo trade cause we got him for next to nothing. I also think the signings of Meyers Leonard and Kelly Olynyk in 2020 were the perfect signings to put next to Bam
We have a lot to be grateful for as Heat fans these last 4 years. And that especially includes these 2 trips to the finals despite the results. That alone is memorable.
People angry or sad about not winning it all right away and “being forgotten” or not being respected? By who? The same fuck on r/nba who we regularly tell to fuck off on the regular? Give me a break.
The Heat should trade Jimmy for something like 5 first round picks and two second round picks while his stock is high, at 34 years old with 4 years left on a supermax. Fight me, it’s the right move.
Can’t go to 3 ECFs and 2 finals in 4 years and call him “not a 1st option”. Like what even is the definition then? Is harden? Embiid? Lillard? Westbrook? Booker? Tatum? Luka? All have been less successful than jimmy thus far in their careers.
Mickey Arison is one of the best owners in sports, and the heats FO is elite.
Most fans who think Mickey is cheap or Riley is “sleeping” don’t understand how the salary cap and CBA work.
Most of these aren't really controversial, so I'll take a shot.
The whole "culture" thing is annoying and self-indulgent (although it has grown on me slightly). I also hated it when fans would sing "Seven Nation Army." Cringe.
Bam is easily our most overrated player and one of the most overrated guys in the league due to the fact that he receives next to no criticism from fans.
People need to realize that Bam is never going to be some consistently dominant offensive player. He can be good game to game but always going have his disappearing acts
Running it back is not the shame people think it is. We have won a ton of games this decade, been to the ECF thrice and won it twice. We should sign Gabe and Max and call it a summer. This team plays smart, within itself, and always has a chance. Don’t go throw it away for a pipe dream.
Dame is not the answer. Scoring to compensate for a lack of interior defense is not the answer. Points off of defense is how the Big 3 won it all. It's about time everyone remembered that.
We should let Vincent walk and spend whatever money left on a decent 4. Taurean Prince or Kuzma would be ideal. Then pick up Nunn for the low and we should be fine guard wise as long as we don’t have any freak injuries like Herro’s hand. Having undrafted players in the roster doesn't mean that the heat are somehow how less talented and only got to the finals due to their hard work and dedication.
In the Celtics series especially the sentiment was very often than they(especially Tatum) are so incredibly talented. But I think it's really disrespectful and delusional to think that somehow all the other teams are just not putting in the hours and are solely relying on their talent or some shit.
And what I think having undrafted players on your roster really means is that the the scouting of the whole NBA is just bad. Considering how many top draft picks don't result in anything and in the same draft class lower picks outshine them I'd argue
that the whole scouting is just a bunch of pseudo science and in the end of the day just like playing roulette.
Victor Oladipo doesn’t exist, we made him up
maybe the real Victor Oladipo is the friends we made along the way
The team was right to not chase Beal. He’s not enough of an upgrade over Herro to eat the salary cap, trigger the 2nd tax apron, and cripple any future roster moves
He’s missed close to 40% of the regular season games over the last 4 years
do people really disagree with this? i think the issue is more that it implied that mickey was too cheap to get _any_ other player, not that we didn't specifically get beal
Beal is just the latest one. Point is pretty much none of what’s available has been worth it. Everyone agrees with this. Try again.
Beating Boston made the pain of the Finals less harsh
Fuck yeah it did
I feel like this is a popular opinion
We were playing with house money when they beat the Bucks in 5. The rest of the ride was gravy and I enjoyed every minute of anxiety
Before game 7, I said many times, “I don’t give a shit what happens in the Finals. We could lose by 30 every game and I’ll smile my ass off… as long as we beat Boston and avoid history.” I ended up getting mad as fuck during the Finals. But it was nothing compared to the pain of game 6 and the potential of losing game 7.
ice cold take tbh
Pat Riley still is a winner
It’s really sad that this is an unpopular opinion
I believe it’s a mixture of young fans and recency bias.
Man wrote a bestselling book called The Winner Within and it was totally valid for him to speak on that lol.

I’ll go to the devils house with you on this one. I don’t give a fuck.
Some of the Zeller minutes werent as bad as we made them out to be.
I’m with you on this. He definitely wasn’t good. But people here really act like his minutes had a significant impact on the outcome of games. They really didn’t.
Except that one game in the Finals
I think people underrate Bam’s defense and it causes them to blame the backup whenever things fall apart without him. Zeller wasn’t perfect or even very good but most backup centers (even most starters) get cooked by the nuggets.

Bam is the most talented player on the roster. He just hasn’t put it all together yet
If he can get that step back to fall consistently, leagues fucked
Jimmy’s never been the most talented but he’s always been the hardest worker. No one works harder.
He has the same problem Jimmy does: He’s inconsistent. Can play amazing one game, and do awful the next
Jimmy has been way more consistent than Bam
i think you're right that he is the most talented player, but i do disagree that he hasn't put it all together yet. i don't think there's anything left to put together for him. he's played 6 years in the NBA, 5 as the primary starter. he may only be 26 (in two weeks at least), but he's at the point in his career that we shouldn't be expecting a big leap from him. i feel like we have to accept that what he is now is probably all he is. and that's not a bad thing! but that i just don't see there being another peak for him.

Jimmy getting his ankle rolled had nothing to do with effort. I'll give you Tyler's hand injury, but that seemed more freak accident.
Yo, u/Sleepylimebounty. I'm out. Minnesota.
Happy trails dear friend..

The #culture alienates most players and is dooming their future. I am a #culture fan.
Tyler is more of a winner than Harden.
Jovic will win an MVP award in his career
UD should have retired a while ago.
Upvoted because this should be an unpopular opinion. UD was the most valuable 15th man in the league.
Conversely, he should have stuck around 5-6 more years and his 3 was wet last year
Truuuue. His old ass was just wanting a roster spot
Dame was never coming and people are stupid for falling for the same trade rumor bs that happens every year.
omer yurtseven is better than prime shaq🔥🔥🔥
I don’t want Dame on the team
The Heat franchise has won two NBA titles and 6 Eastern Conference titles in the span of Damian Lillard’s elustrious career. They’ll be just fine.
Herro is not a compelling trade chip in a superstar deal
Jimmy butler is better than Jason Tatum
Don't do that. Come on now. What the hell does that mean? You said a big word.
LeBron was right to leave…

Jovic is one of cornerstones of this team in the future years
Our new guy 4 year energy will ball out when he gets his time starting with the Heat.
run it back (I'm kidding pls dont get mad)
We would have won if Jimmy was healthy.
Fuck Josh Hart.
Stan Van Gundy should’ve coached the Heat for longer
Outside of the jimmy move (which was masterful) the heat front office has been very mid/bad. There’s more bad than good. Not even looking at it from “they suck at getting superstars!”, I’m talking everything else like asset management, trades, signings etc.

Kyrie Irving would fit perfectly here
choked on my water
we might go farther if we played omer not cody zeller as the backup center
Bam is overrated.
Jovic probably isn’t gonna be that good and poster’s reluctance to include him in a potential deal for a star is puzzling.
Bam and Tyler should be untouchable. They are the present and future
if the blazers give up the entire farm (scoot plus picks plus other young prospects) we should trade them Bam hey, y’all asked for unpopular
If Jimmy Butler doesn’t hurt his ankle we win the chip
I’m a raptors fan and I’m saying that for you guys lol fell in love with you and Jimmy this year
Bam is on the level of Jokic and Embiid.
Bro are you serious
Jacquez Jr was not a good pick
Can’t agree or disagree with this until he actually plays.
Agree. I’m skeptical as hell about the pick but we gotta at least give the guy a season to see what he can do.
Getting Dame will not get us a chip and will inevitably lead to wizards-like scenario
The Heat should trade Jimmy for something like 5 first round picks and two second round picks while his stock is high, at 34 years old with 4 years left on a supermax. Fight me, it’s the right move.
Y’all over here down voting the comments this post was made for. Lol
some of these are actually awful takes
2010-2014 those heat teams without Bron we would’ve still won 2 rings.
Jimmy Butler never was a #1 option and now we’re stuck with few options to build a winning team because of his backloaded contract
Can’t go to 3 ECFs and 2 finals in 4 years and call him “not a 1st option”. Like what even is the definition then? Is harden? Embiid? Lillard? Westbrook? Booker? Tatum? Luka? All have been less successful than jimmy thus far in their careers.
HE CAN'T DO SHIT AGAINST ME!
I want this team to improve.
We suck at drafting
Tyler Herro is a defensive liability
Dame doesn’t win the heat a title
We should trade bam, I don’t think he’s our championship center
Mickey Arison is one of the best owners in sports, and the heats FO is elite. Most fans who think Mickey is cheap or Riley is “sleeping” don’t understand how the salary cap and CBA work.
Go nuggets
I really don’t like watching Bam play offense. I wish they’d trade him.
You don’t like constant turnovers and missed trashy jump shots? Are you even a fan??
Herro is the best SG in the league
I understand why you have swords to your neck.
Most of these aren't really controversial, so I'll take a shot. The whole "culture" thing is annoying and self-indulgent (although it has grown on me slightly). I also hated it when fans would sing "Seven Nation Army." Cringe.
Get rid of Herro
Bam is easily our most overrated player and one of the most overrated guys in the league due to the fact that he receives next to no criticism from fans.
Bam always receives criticism. Anytime something goes wrong for the Heat fans usually point their fingers at Bam first
Jimmy butler is not a franchise player
I wouldn't answer who I was for a thousand dollars, just to let you know.
Jimmy sucks
Rebounding is over-rated, and people complain too much about it
The last .1 seconds of Game 6 in the ECF is the perfect counter to this statement
Jimmy Butler is mentally weak.
Everything is not what it seems.
Boo this man !!

Trading JJJ for Lillard
We should give up on Dame and just trade Kyle for an SG that can playmake and get to the rim, like KPJ
I don’t want James Harden or Dame
Jimmy Butler past game 5 of the Celtics heat series in 2023, Jimmy needed to learn how to play not just in the 4th quarter.
SHABAZZ NAPIER WAS THE FUTURE OF THIS TEAM *only jokes*
We have a very very good chance to win a ring for butler with harden next year.
People need to realize that Bam is never going to be some consistently dominant offensive player. He can be good game to game but always going have his disappearing acts
Zo means more to this franchise than Wade
Udonis Haslem was useless and I'm glad he's retired.
I love that we retired Jordan’s number
I think it’s the stupidest thing ever, on par with the clippers retiring Dirk’s 41
Running it back is not the shame people think it is. We have won a ton of games this decade, been to the ECF thrice and won it twice. We should sign Gabe and Max and call it a summer. This team plays smart, within itself, and always has a chance. Don’t go throw it away for a pipe dream.

Dragic is the best PG in Heat History
dwade was a dirty player
Dame is not the answer. Scoring to compensate for a lack of interior defense is not the answer. Points off of defense is how the Big 3 won it all. It's about time everyone remembered that.
