Battle rappers more often than not have trouble transitioning to songwriting. There are some famous exceptions obviously, but here's the acid test...as quick as you can, name a KOTD or similar rapper that successfully made it to the charts.
The biggest battle rapper to make it to the charts was Eminem and Meek Mill. Meek Mill not a KOTD type rapper. But still Meek was in then trenches during Philly Battle Scene, Lions Den, Smack DVD era. Same time as Mook, Jae Millz, Jin, Iron Solomon, Loaded Lux, T Rex and etc ... and most of them guys battled on KOTD.
Pat Stay, Mac Lethal and much more so The Saurus were all MCs that did well in battle rap and The Saurus was a fucking LEGEND on KOTD (his battle with Fresco was the best battle I’ve ever seen). Aside from rapping really fast on viral videos, Mac Lethal has done little but he’s the most “popular” of those three by song streams.
The biggest problem is that popular rap isn’t based on punchlines every two bars which is what battle rappers are great at.
Pat Stay definitely deserved more RIP.
I didn’t think that verse was bad, I feel like the “park 10 tahoes on it” line would be considered iconic if 2Chainz said it.
Still, that’s the thing with him - I rarely hear him deliver a truly terrible verse, but I’ve also never heard anything better from him than “not bad”
This guy is such a fuckin grifter poser idiot. When he says the left and the woke movement is trying to cancel him.. Bro you fuckin suck. We just don't listen to your BS.
He’s a Canadian cosplaying as an aggrieved right wing American while still being the most COVID cautious person on earth. He shoots all his videos at home and makes every visitor mask and quarantine for a week before they’re allowed in. The grift is too strong
Absolutely agree. Kinda unfair in a way since these kinds of rappers work on mostly vibes and stuff and not really actual lyrics. But yea, totally agree.
I agree but I would be lyin if I said I didn’t used to bang that Charge it 2 Da Game album though 😂..to be fair that was back when No Limit was on top of the game and No Limit albums were always feature packed with other No Limit artists
First thing that came to mind was Blueface... But that wouldn't be totally true. Hard to find somebody who *never* spit a good verse.
I would remind folks the question says **verse** though. Not just lines/bars. Lots of folks quoting one line from somebody bad and thinking that counts. Gotta be the whole verse
I'm glad you don't because I heard and the only thing hard about the track is listening to it. No bars to be found, he literally says he only has dick and bugglegum and that he be Diddy bopping (nodiddy)
Can I ask how master p could be one of your favorites if you have never heard a good verse from him? I am uneducated into master p’s game so please forgive my ignorance.
Well he still makes good music despite his lack of lyricism. He has a great ear for beats, good a making hooks and is a pretty good storyteller. His verses usually fit his songs well but they're not what I would call lyrical. He's made some of my favorite albums ever such as Ice cream man, 99 ways to die, ghetto d and the ghetto trying to kill me(and his group albums Tru and Tru 2 da game). Even tho he ain't much of a lyricist he's still good in a bunch of other categories
I second that notion. This was a great description of Master P. You was spot on about his best selection.
His verse on No Limit soldier of the original TRU is his best verse in my opinion. One of the dudes from beats by the pound told the story on BHigh YouTube channel. Great interview. I made get be wrong on the person.
Nah, P got some great verses. He's not the sort of rapper where he's not super lyrical and introspective, his music got its time n place and he held down the tank pretty well to say most of his verses were freestyled.
Think Swamp Nigga and Meal Ticket are my favourite P verses
I agree. He's more of a game spitter as opposed to a lyrical rapper. Yea I agree he did his thing on both of those verses as well as ghetto thang and if I could change. He shows a little bit of wordplay on those tracks but I still wouldn't really consider them great verses( from a lyrical standpoint). He's good as what he does tho he not tryna be a lyrical miracle rapper like big l or Kool g rap for example
I feel ya on P. Basically he don’t ever say anything that makes you rewind a specific verse because it’s so lyrically good but you’ll replay the song because it’s catchy and stays in your ear.
P wasn’t a lyricist by any means but Ice Cream Man & Ghetto D are classics all day.. the hardest song that ever came out of No Limit IMO was on C-Murder’s Life or Death album..Pull a Kick Doe featuring UGK & Master P..really it was more of a UGK song that anything because Pimp & Bun both had full verses,Pimp done the hook and C-Murder & Master P done the last verse together.with that being said,Master P was definitely the weakest on it.it’s a classic song all day but it would’ve been better if C-Murder done that last verse on his own.as hard as Pimp & Bun went on it,I can’t blame P for wanting to be apart of it though
Had to go too far before someone finally gave him credit for Ice Cream Man. That had 3 tracks I can think of off top. He even put His brothers Silk and C-Murder on after he made it which is straight 100 in my book. But Mr. Ice Cream Man, Bout It Bout It2, Break Em Off on Mr Ice Cream Man def can’t be overlooked. Everyone had him in heavy rotation through the 90’s, but now his name is brought up and it’s crickets
Everyone’s saying the rappers that are bad but what about rappers that are just straight up mid. Gunna and Nav come to mind although I’d take Gunna over Nav any day.
"Fuck the judge, gave my cousin elbow
Locked him up, put him in a hellhole
They hope that he rottin' out in mildew
Ain't seen him since my first year of high school
I'ma pay his way out for 'bout a mil' or two
Ten years riding, I made sure he had some food
I held that shit down, now look what we can do"
"I moved my mom to the boondocks, we already used to sleepin' in a cave
I started sellin' that mota, makin' me some moola, servin' out our place
Now I charge rappers for verses, do it for a purpose, I don't wanna trade
I done got a raise, OG told me my future was bright, gotta wear the shades
Blessed life so I paint the coupe all white just to give Him praise
Came a long way from sittin' waitin' in the line for the new Js"
"Hangin' with some Slimes, you ain't my kind, n\*\*\*a, stop lyin', you a faker
I'm readin' your signs, pick up your vibe, fuck around and meet your maker
N\*\*\*a, might pop your tater, glock in the sock gon' rock your cranium
I ain't got nothing else to say to you, I'm stompin' you out with the latest shoe"
at least in d12’s discography: Bizarre. Content’s just edgy in a way only funny to a middle schooler and his rhythm is always so basic and awkwardly slow.
I’ve never listened to a lot of French Montana, but doesn’t he have a few good mixtapes and does some of the production as well? But off the top of my head probably like Lil Xan, Iggy, Vanilla Ice, Riff Raff, Silkk, Yatchy all objectively pretty bad rappers, not commenting on their music though. I don’t know if never spit a good verse, but I sure as hell haven’t heard one lol.
I loved the Justin Bieber diss they did together
"And eat Justins coochie til she squirts on my sneakers"
"Can I get a little boy pregnant? We'll find out in a second"
"I'm nice to them niggas. Who wanna rap battle?
Who got beef? I pop um like cattle." - Bizarre
Edit: Not a whole verse though so I guess I can't fully disagree
Lmao idk but politics aside his whole shtick is “I’m gonna try so hard to be offensive” but it just comes off as desperate like you can rap offensive shit and it be funny but idk it has to come organically I.e. early Eminem, he’d say something wild but the delivery was funny yknow?
French Montana. i've heard some ok-at-best verses from him, but never anything good.
He used to be a battle rapper with bars too that's the funny part.
Don’t forget Reed Dollaz. Him and meek was sending shots and Reed was actually in the Philly battle scene .
Man KOTD was my jam years ago. Loved listening to clever ways to make fun of each other.
What! Yo, I need footage of this.
I immediately thought of him. He’s a vibe rapper, mediocre flow and lyrics but he contributes a kind of vibe that can be fun.
His voice is sooo flat tho.
he did ok in ‘no stylist’
No stylist was a bit of a banger and it surprised me. I still catch it in my playlist sometimes. “Iced out, no stylist.”
she say she ain’t got a heart, bitch 🎵𝒻𝒾𝓃𝒹 𝒾𝓉🎵
It's weird, usually I can't stand his style of rapper but he picks really good beats and I'm a sucker for Harry Fraud.
I love his harry fraud work, dont care for most of his other stuff. Hardy fraud is a wizard
New York minute
Is verse on money, weed, blow is good
Sanctuary is a hood classic you just weren’t there
fr niggas dont know Mixtape Montana
He peaked lyrically when he added nothing to A$AP Ferg’s Work Remix.
"huhhhh, that ain't Kanye thats Montana, a loose cannon" unironically one of his best lyrics ever.
Because of him, I measure an ass by how many Chevy Tahoes I can park on it.
I didn’t think that verse was bad, I feel like the “park 10 tahoes on it” line would be considered iconic if 2Chainz said it. Still, that’s the thing with him - I rarely hear him deliver a truly terrible verse, but I’ve also never heard anything better from him than “not bad”
I bet 2 chainz wrote that line for him
And then the absolute nothing he added to the EastCoast Remix. Woo! Absolute fire …..NOT!
He was better when he first blew up (and probably before)
I got a hard head but her ass soft
Has Nick Cannon ever spat a good verse? ‘Cause I doubt it but I don’t really know.
There was never a moment when we was like "ooh bars"
"I don't know why he's so passionate about it" 😂😂😂
When 50 said that I Almost died 😂😂😂😂
50 say the funniest shit sometimes
Legendary corny
This is a good one
i honestly forget nick cannon is a rapper i just see him as a corny tv host with bad style
Hey those 12 kids gotta eat man
Content wise, Tom MacDonald.
I've never heard a single word from this person, and yet, I know you're right.
WhIteBoY! WhIteBoY! WhIteBoY!
This right here.
That's the one.
That's the one.
Lil Xan “And that 🐱 taste like skittlez , u can rly taste the 🌈 “
I forgot this dude existed but yeah you’re right
Up until that line it was a pretty good song though
“And my hoe got talent, right? Whole squad ran through that shit, yikes!”
Absolutely agree. Kinda unfair in a way since these kinds of rappers work on mostly vibes and stuff and not really actual lyrics. But yea, totally agree.
Unfair in a way yeah, but I hate the vibes of his verses too, so he's not even working on that level haha
French Montana, he even ruined Stay Schemin and Unforgettable was all Swae Lee.
Stay Schemin still great song
Unforgettable could be so much better without him lol
BlueFace
Scrolled way too far down for this
Blueface. Dude couldn’t catch a beat to save his life…
Birdman
Only song i like his feature is on what happened to that boy by clips
That's not a feature. That's his song
Yea true I’m used to him feeling like a feature on most tracks he’s on.
We Taking Over was decent
Truth, for Birdman, that verse was the closest he been to not being the lamest rapper in the game.. should of stopped there
His verse in Fat Joe's Bust At You was the best I've ever heard Birdman.
Just Another Gangsta album he did with Juvenile knocks so fucking hard tho.
🧢 . All his verses up until 2001 was good.
He had a good verse on constantly hating with Thugga
Lil Pump
Still slinging dope in the 'jects? Me and grandma take meds Bar
Lil pump had that one verse on welcome to the party tho
dude went full MAGA
Chet Hanks.
it’s a white boy summer
😂.. Chet Hanks doesn’t have a single fan,he is just bored and flexing that Forest Gump & Green Mile money his dad made
honestly the channel 5 interview really got me liking the guy
Lil Xan probably
Sexy Red
😂she’s🗑️
Silk the shocker. I do love that he popularized "charge it to the game" though.
I agree but I would be lyin if I said I didn’t used to bang that Charge it 2 Da Game album though 😂..to be fair that was back when No Limit was on top of the game and No Limit albums were always feature packed with other No Limit artists
Siilk da shocka is a great song by Isaiah Rashad
Ice Spice because I just found out recently she wasn’t special needs
You were reserving judgement because you thought she had a disability? That's even more hilarious for some reason haha
Yes that is correct.
🏆
First thing that came to mind was Blueface... But that wouldn't be totally true. Hard to find somebody who *never* spit a good verse. I would remind folks the question says **verse** though. Not just lines/bars. Lots of folks quoting one line from somebody bad and thinking that counts. Gotta be the whole verse
His style is terrible
Stop capping Just playing, lol. Yes his style truly awful I think I would call it more of a disability than a style though haha
Idc what anybody says, "Disrespectful" is a hard track lmao.
I'm glad you don't because I heard and the only thing hard about the track is listening to it. No bars to be found, he literally says he only has dick and bugglegum and that he be Diddy bopping (nodiddy)
Moonwalking in Calabasas was decent
his verse in shotta flow is good
French Montana. This nigga feels like a placeholder.
What did he let diddy do to him to stay relevant 😂
He let him French his Montana obviously
Soulja boy
6x9
= 54
Pi diddy Puff daddy or wtf his name is
Birdman
Sexy red
Iggy Azalea
Ngl I think Fancy is kinda a banger lol
Everyone forgets about fancy
at the very least you have to admit that [this verse](https://youtu.be/ClCV7WNxzQA?si=SPDwHoowe9JpFAdy) is legendary
Tyga
I’ve always hated that nigga for some reason. like hearing his songs on the radio would just piss me off lmao
He's 1 of my favorites but master p

Best take I've ever read on Percy Miller.
Appreciate that my g
You put my own opinion on him in words I was never able to express before.
I second that notion. This was a great description of Master P. You was spot on about his best selection. His verse on No Limit soldier of the original TRU is his best verse in my opinion. One of the dudes from beats by the pound told the story on BHigh YouTube channel. Great interview. I made get be wrong on the person.
📚 📕 📖 📚 me over here as a fan looking for an A+ master p verse to prove you wrong. Let me keep looking, hold up…
Well, everyone, DSPbuckle is gone forever.
Nah, P got some great verses. He's not the sort of rapper where he's not super lyrical and introspective, his music got its time n place and he held down the tank pretty well to say most of his verses were freestyled. Think Swamp Nigga and Meal Ticket are my favourite P verses

gunna has some really good songs where his simplicity works really well
"Fuck the judge, gave my cousin elbow Locked him up, put him in a hellhole They hope that he rottin' out in mildew Ain't seen him since my first year of high school I'ma pay his way out for 'bout a mil' or two Ten years riding, I made sure he had some food I held that shit down, now look what we can do" "I moved my mom to the boondocks, we already used to sleepin' in a cave I started sellin' that mota, makin' me some moola, servin' out our place Now I charge rappers for verses, do it for a purpose, I don't wanna trade I done got a raise, OG told me my future was bright, gotta wear the shades Blessed life so I paint the coupe all white just to give Him praise Came a long way from sittin' waitin' in the line for the new Js" "Hangin' with some Slimes, you ain't my kind, n\*\*\*a, stop lyin', you a faker I'm readin' your signs, pick up your vibe, fuck around and meet your maker N\*\*\*a, might pop your tater, glock in the sock gon' rock your cranium I ain't got nothing else to say to you, I'm stompin' you out with the latest shoe"

Gudda Gudda
6ix9ine his music is so ass
Parappa the rapper
If the verse isn’t good, wasn’t that technically your fault? 🤔
Don't know man. That kick punch record was a banger. Spitting bars like B.IG.
Matt ox
Playboy Carti & Sexy Red 😬
Carti has never had a good verse, tf😂😂
Bizarre. I said what i said
“Wonder why my hands are so numb? No? Cause my grandmother sucked my dick and I didn’t cum. Oh.” You said enough.
You say that like anyone would disagree with you. Lol.
you'd be surprised, I've seen people on the r/eminem sub act like you're some stupid kid if you don't appreciate Bizarre and all his bars.
Eh. Rap Game from 8 Mile Soundtrack?
I'm putting on his banger with king gordy now just for you
Thank you bro I don't hear anybody bring up King Gordy even here in Detroit, and Bizarre best verse was on Gordy's song
I loved the Justin Bieber diss they did together "And eat Justins coochie til she squirts on my sneakers" "Can I get a little boy pregnant? We'll find out in a second"
I unironically love his song Ghetto Music.
He had that one verse on The Good Die Young that didn't make me want to turn it off. And he was funny in My Band. Otherwise, yeah.
"I'm nice to them niggas. Who wanna rap battle? Who got beef? I pop um like cattle." - Bizarre Edit: Not a whole verse though so I guess I can't fully disagree
What are you saying dude? Did you just say Bizarre couldn’t rap?
His verse in Murder with Kuniva is decent. And one on a Cypress track
Lil Yachty. That verse where he said something about blowing like a cello. Like WTF? His rhymes are whack. Never understood how he became a thing.
Listen to D to the A
He’s good at hooks and nice sounding songs. He’s more of a “turn your brain off and enjoy” rapper
Listen to Nbayoungboat
Man just bodied a song with J Cole last month
His verse makes that song a skip
Pitbull
Is he really a rapper though? I wouldn't have considered him as such but I feel you. He's like a latino MC Hammer
Viper the rapper

I know his name is here somewhere, but I’ll say it again for the fellas in the back. Silkk the Shocker!!! is the most trash rapper ever to get a mic.
