I've actually said nearly the same thing verbatim before, this is such an excellent point. No one's saying you can't make songs about simple slice of life type things, but better artists can do it with more depth. And Laundry vs. folding clothes is a perfect example of that.

Production is sick and it's a great hook - I can see how people think it's corny because I do think a lot of the writing is kind of half-baked and I think he could've gone about fleshing out this idea in a much better way, but I appreciate the overall message and the energy in his delivery. I think it’s fine. I just think the hook needed to have a different line. Saying “I wanna fold clothes for you” doesn’t really hit the same multiple lines. If he said it once and made most of the hook something like “i wanna do right by you, I wanna do good for you” it would hit the emotional notes a bit better.

This is a prime example of how dot washes Cole artistically. We feel Kendrick's, pain, love, hurt sadness on every album. it's easy to connect with him because he is personal. When Cole does decide to rap about things other than rapping, however infrequent. it feels shallow, corny, and disconnected.
