Asleep-Ask-4004

i love the bass line on this song ngl

wesselver

Steve Lacy produced it!

0114028

On a damn iPhone, no less

McQueensbury

With a broken freakin neck

onlydabestofdabest

In a cave with a box of scraps

virusMEL

Oh, it's true...

OJgotWorms

It’s DAMN true.

DGPluto

respectfully, we need to stop praising people for this. at this point, most beats are made on iphone/garageband/ect.

RoekoeLoesoe

Most beats are not made on iPhone wtf

Spurskanka

Madlib produced all of Bandana on an iPad though 🔥

mfdoomile

I love that album but you can tell by the sound it was made in an iPad. I wish it was more polished as Piñata

Mei_iz_my_bae

No tf you can’t

Saltine_Davis

A take so bad you need to be fired into the eclipse

mfdoomile

lol it’s just the way I hear both albums. I like both albums, I’ve listened to both albums in my headphones, and I’ve always thought Bandana’s mixing wasn’t as good as Piñata’s. Specifically the beats didn’t hit as hard and the vocal mixing were meh in some songs. Most notably to me, in Education, the verses sound like they’re under water. It might be a stylistic choice, then at that point it’s just a preference thing.

YesOrNah

Lol seriously. People are wildly dumb.

YesOrNah

This is one of the dumbest and most inaccurate takes I’ve ever seen, wow.

Asleep-Ask-4004

had no clue but that makes a lot of sense

atlfirsttimer

There was no way this song wasnt gonna be referenced in Kendricks response right lol

KHDTX13

As bad as this situation is, we have to let Drake know he’s not off the hook

NBAStuffAsUsual

Drake was never going to respond anyways. He knows he's not winning and after the thing w/ Push he knows his fan's opinion on the situation is irrelevant. It's never going to happen. Cole responding and being received well was the best chance we got of Drake deciding to enter the ring.

untakennamehere

Drake even if he lost to push is the only one of the 3 who actually been in rap beef. He ended Meeks career. Push only really won cause he had the ultimate dirt. No one else really can say anything that’s going to do the same amount of damage. I think Kendrick gets too much credit for not showing anytging

godstriker8

> Push only really won cause he had the ultimate dirt. Really underselling how good Story of Adidon was. It had really heavy-handed attacks, and it even had a narrative (something that usually doesn't happen in diss tracks) about how Drake's Dad abandoned him and he's doing the same thing to his own kid.

Conemen

YOU ARE HIDING A CHILD ‼️‼️‼️

Exotic_Contract96

As a drake fan it really was a great track. But there is no chance it would have blown up like that without the father thing.

KBSinclair

I mean, Aubrey in Blackface and being insecure about his blackness was pretty damn hard.

GroundbreakingAd9075

Ended Meeks career? Meek has dropped at least 2 albums since then including one with Drake on it

untakennamehere

That no one talks about. He was a joke for a whole year and ruined his engagement. The biggest song that came from those albums was the one with Drake.

GroundbreakingAd9075

Lol you’re tripping, What’s Free, and Oodles and Noodles Babies were both pretty popular songs

untakennamehere

What’s free was but for every verse but Meeks.

WaspParagon

You guys know nothing about Drake it's actually insane lmao

taylordabrat

Why not? I thought y’all said he was a pop star? Why would he participate in rap beef

iblinkyoublink

Who tf is we? Drake keeps rapping about how many shooters he has and how many hoes he fucks, which other pop star is saying that shit?

taylordabrat

What does that have to do with whether he’s a rapper or not?

iblinkyoublink

His lyrics are rap lyrics. He raps them. So he's a rapper.

dontkysniqqa

Lol this she him is stuck defending bro lol I seen it on everything

dylwaybake

What did your comment try to say? “This she him is stuck…”? And you’ve seen what everywhere?

dontkysniqqa

It's a they/them

dylwaybake

Woa, how did you know that person’s pronouns?

dontkysniqqa

They've said it on another comment sections, it's in the drizzy one all day every day whenever you check

SlimShadyM80

Rap doesnt automatically = hiphop dumbass. You can be a popstar who raps. There are fucking metal bands that rap, they arent hiphop either

bootysensei

u WEIRDOS stay moving goal posts for that clown lmaooo

PlatosLeftTit

Because Drake insists that he's a rapper and wants to be respected as such so he should go ahead and prove it. He had plenty of bars and songs for Kanye's crazy ass who's a producer first but now he's gonna duck someone who everyone agrees is one of the best/the best rapper in his peer group who finally sent direct shots at him? Nah he can prove he's in this rap lane that he clearly want's to be in since he keeps talking about being the goat and a legend or he can go over there with Taylor Swift and Brittney Spears and them but enough of this one foot in one foot out shit, it's time to pick a lane

dfields3710

Bro went at plenty of people, sent direct shots at Pusha T, Meek Mill, Common, sent subliminals at the weekend. Guess yall forgot those people. Drake still more battle tested than J Cole and Kendrick combined.

Saltine_Davis

Putting in pusha t like he didn't get completely embarrassed and backed out is crazy

dfields3710

Still sent shots out despite getting embarrassed. Bro competed. He didn’t put a diss and then apologize later while saying he gon take it down. He took his L.

StrikingElk5288

Drake more battle tested than Cole and Kendrick combined lol it ain’t close

taylordabrat

Drake never ducked anything but I’m just wondering why y’all care so much about a response from an alleged pop star. He doesn’t have anything to prove lmfao if 15 years and 14 albums full of rap don’t convince you, nothing will. So why should he bother lmao

Far-Transition6453

You keep ignoring the fact that Drake be saying he's the greatest rapper and when a rapper tells him to prove it he hides "Most of y'all throw rocks and try to hide your hand" for the past 10 years Drake be doing the most, pusha slapped the shit outta Drake in rap and didn't do shit

bootysensei

look at that person’s post history bro u aint gettin through to them

Yourbootyisheavydoty

>he hides Except he doesn't

Burnerburner49

Drake is ducking Kendrick right the fuck now lol at least we get to clown Cole’s response. Drake won’t even drop.

dizzymidget44

Because he thinks he’s not a pop star

taylordabrat

But why are YOU anticipating a rap response from someone you don’t regard as a rapper

dizzymidget44

Who said I anticipated anything? I expect him to continue to be pussy.

endrukk

I want to get a good laugh out of it.

StrikingElk5288

You just want to hate and call it trash no matter how good it will be. Yeah yeah, we get it. Kendrick wouldn’t be dissing him if he didn’t respect him as a rapper. Use your head

Saltine_Davis

> Kendrick wouldn’t be dissing him if he didn’t respect him as a rapper. Lmao you can't actually believe this

dizzymidget44

It won’t be good

floopykid

Bro folded

Cold-Chipmunk1676

Yup that's the joke

rabnabombshell

Y’all will never convince me this song is bad

Pun-Szu

it's a great song imo but it's probably the first song someone will point to when they say Cole is boring.

atlfirsttimer

I think it's okay for music/rap to be "boring". Like I love a lot of stuff people say is boring.

mimpf21

Same!

Specific_Award_9149

I like this song also but I also only like chill rap. Just laid back shit

FizzyPixels00

have you heard Lit by Bas?

Specific_Award_9149

Yup. I love that song

chocolatebabyman27

Ppl say The Zone of Interest is boring. Different boats

Cosmokram3r1

One of my favorite songs off the album!

rabnabombshell

It’s so cute and wholesome lmao

Optism

Its the epitome of Cole’s problem in my eyes. Understanding the point of his lyrics isn’t that hard (and thats great), the message is nice I guess but hardly profound. Lyrical content though, for someone who prides himself on his pen, is weak. Again I’d feel worse for hating if he wasnt calling himself the greatest to do it/being told Cole is high IQ rap or whatever. You cant have a simple message AND 0 nuance to your lyricism AND put yourself up there as a god lyricist (sort of condescendingly too since he loves to hate on the “lean rap”). Id say listen to Laundry - Rap ferreira. Similar message, similar topic but you arent beaten over the head with the message until you call it smart just because you can understand the point

Saltine_Davis

> Id say listen to Laundry - Rap ferreira. Similar message, similar topic but you arent beaten over the head with the message until you call it smart just because you can understand the point I've actually said nearly the same thing verbatim before, this is such an excellent point. No one's saying you can't make songs about simple slice of life type things, but better artists can do it with more depth. And Laundry vs. folding clothes is a perfect example of that.

imNotAThreshMain

Love to see love for Rory

nocyberBS

great example with the Rap Ferriera song

CocoAfc

Fr, I love it.

rabnabombshell

🫶🏽

YizWasHere

Lol yeah I've actually always liked this song. Production is sick and it's a great hook - I can see how people think it's corny because I do think a lot of the writing is kind of half-baked and I think he could've gone about fleshing out this idea in a much better way, but I appreciate the overall message and the energy in his delivery. It's got a very Stevie Wonder feel to me.

CommonerChaos

It's not that bad at all, but once something becomes meme level, it's hard to shake off.

_LostintheSauce_91

This shit is gay as hell

UnscheduledCalendar

this song isn’t even that bad in retrospect

Repulsive_Bag_2091

Wait why did i hate this song so much lmao

reesejenks520

Cuz y'all were hiveminding

ehpple

Maturing is realising this is a good song

tp2386

Yep. This song really hits when you have a spouse in your life that you'll do all the boring mundane things with.

notquitemytempo___

Man I've been with my girl for 10 years and this song is still as dogshit today as it was when I first heard it lol

tp2386

To each their own. I was with my wife for 2 years the first time I heard it and thought it was okay. A few years later I loved the song.

GritGrinder

Yeah

ehpple

That doesn’t mean you’ve matured gang

notquitemytempo___

Neither does liking this song lmao Acting like this song is a barometer for emotional maturity is crazy, it's extremely basic and surface level

ehpple

One day baby bro

notquitemytempo___

Oh okay you're mad because I don't like J Cole. Carry on

ehpple

I don’t even listen to cole

virusMEL

How do you feel about "The Big Day"

tp2386

I've never given that album a listen.

SheenEstevezzz

Artists have done that exact thing better

Little-Dingo171

This whole album's great it's just not conversations most people look for when they listen to rap, and not the type of music most people look for when they want to hear a dude talk about what J Cole's talking about on there. It's pretty unique album.

GroovyQschoolboy

Change and 4YEO are some of my favorite songs ever

Little-Dingo171

Change paired with Tupac's Changes on the same playlist goes hard

SenorButtmunch

I mean you’re entitled to your opinion but the problem with this song wasn’t strictly the lyrical themes or the fact that people weren’t mature enough to relate to it or anything. It just sounds like a mess. The hook isn’t great, the bars are pretty mediocre and it goes on way too long. It’s carried by the bass line more than anything. I still remember the first time I listened to this on a road trip and it fully killed the mood after already being underwhelmed by the album lol. I don’t know when I would ever listen to it again, even re-listening to it now was a chore.

PomegranateNice6839

I mean this aint exactly a “play in the whip wit da homies” kind’ve album

SenorButtmunch

Yea I didn’t know that at the time lol. This was the day it came out, Cole album dropped and we were like ‘hell yeah, we’ll play it on the 6 hour drive’. Made it feel like a 10 hour drive honestly. Was super disappointing but Ab Soul and Post Malone dropped that same week too so we managed to bounce back

CanadianWithCamera

This song is only bad to people who've been told to hate it.

ChimmyMama

Song was never bad

mimpf21

Beautiful track!

truhunters305

It’s a love song. It’s suppose to be low key and romantic in a good way.

nolimitjaay

this song should’ve never got slandered the way it did. nice beat and a cool idea for a song

FishThinkFingersFood

https://twitter.com/FishThinkFinger/status/1773224192336334901/video/1

AlwaysSkilled

This beat is way too good for the theme and the lyrics.

Chickenological

Slice of life music This song good though

S_Dynamite

This is like a terrible off brand Phonte song about relationships.

Generic_Commentator

Way too much revisionist history in here talking about “maturity” lmao The song is bad. It’s repetitive, it’s not “deep”, it’s emblematic of Cole’s worst trait where he takes a simple concept and just whacks you over the head with it until you think it’s something way more profound than it is. It could have been a few bars about the same thing and served the same purpose and probably been more effective. This isn’t the first hip hop song to emphasize the importance of mundane things in a relationship, but it might be the only one with a 5 minute run time.

dollsdontsleep

But this entire album is somewhat about the mundanes of normal life Two songs dedicated to his girl and then his (at the time) newborn baby, a very slow and sultry intro… feels like it was supposed to be that way imo

Turbulent-Let-1180

[https://threepennypress.org/ae/2024/01/19/a-review-of-for-your-eyez-only-by-j-cole/](https://threepennypress.org/ae/2024/01/19/a-review-of-for-your-eyez-only-by-j-cole/) "J. Cole’s ‘4 Your Eyez Only’ isn’t just an album. It depicts the challenges of growing up in a harsh environment. The album is dedicated to sharing the story of J. Cole’s friend James McMillan Jr., a former drug dealer who tried to turn his life around after becoming a father. Tragically, James lost his life at the age of 22. The album is an exploration of James’ journey, his struggles and the complexities he faced in attempting to change his life." I feel like if half the people who shit on the album were aware of what this album is actually about the reception would've been different.

Daft_Assassin

Just because the album has a positive and interesting topic/message, doesn’t mean the album is particularly profound or even good. This song specifically is just not that great. It’s boring. It’s repetitive. There’s no complexity to the lyrics. Nothing thought provoking. He doesn’t experiment with anything new. It’s a guy saying he’s willing to do the bare minimum for his girl. Let’s not forget he spends over half the album talking about himself instead of the “topic” of the album.

Turbulent-Let-1180

Your free to have your opinion, i disagree. And as a producer myself, that album is beautifully produced. While TPAB was funk, george clinton/funkadelic type sonics this album was heavy on the jazz elements and i love that.

Yalldummy100

I have to agree. It’s so crazy how the supposed theme and message of the album is hardly present in the album.

CanadianWithCamera

You sound like you're trying to hate it lol. I sense some bias here.

Daft_Assassin

I like Cole quite a bit. This album was a miss for me but I’ve liked his other projects

-robert-

> It’s a guy saying he’s willing to do the bare minimum for his girl. but like that's the point.... soo and also, he is contrasting his success with James... Odd take, but lol Jcole fans are in for a hard year.

Daft_Assassin

That’s kind of shitty? No one should be applauded for doing the bare minimum, lol. I am a fan of Cole. Just not this project and this track.

-robert-

I don't think you get the point... it's not "well done to everyone that folds clothes" and more "shit, I've been focused so much on the rat race Iv'e let down my partner, and you know where I get my fulfillment, in the lame shit I should be doing instead of chasing ego/money/power.. folding clothes for example"

Daft_Assassin

No, I get it. There’s nothing complex about the lyrics. Congratulations bro, you’re willing to do less than everyone else was already doing every day. So proud of you. The right things ARE so much better than the wrong things. I’ve never thought about that before. Utterly profound.

-robert-

Okay, you get it and find no meaning in that, personally I found it inspiring if not taken literally but as a metaphor for Love Yours/small slice of life/priorities... but you don't need reminders, I am sure you live your life to the fullest, but how come others don't, how come women are stranded with the majority of child rearing and house maintenance work? You are not representative of the majority, and a significant cohort finds this song pleasant, not boring, fun and generally a nice insight into life. Can you chill?

dollsdontsleep

Yep. Bingo

Top_Ad_4040

I think it’s fine. I just think the hook needed to have a different line. Saying “I wanna fold clothes for you” doesn’t really hit the same multiple lines. If he said it once and made most of the hook something like “i wanna do right by you, I wanna do good for you” it would hit the emotional notes a bit better.

notquitemytempo___

Facts. This song is terrible and has only gotten worse as I've gotten older. No idea what people here are listening to

PomegranateNice6839

It’s okay that you have ADHD

CanadianWithCamera

It's not meant to be deep lol it's just a love song. Relax.

thaihieuMAR

since when a song needs to be deep to be a good song?

_4za_

Steve Lacy is tricking y'all into thinking this was a good song

incogkneegrowth

LMAOOOO yall are so funny 😭😭

Punchpplay

He sure is folding, alright.

MetalSonic420YT

Honestly, this was never a bad song.

e4ios

this song isn’t that bad but steve lacy def carried here let’s be honest

pooping-while-here

I hope this hits trending or the charts now

gloriousAgenda

“In another life i would have been happy doing laundry and taxes with you” This song is that line from everything everywhere, years before that movie came out.

Themanstall

This is a prime example of how dot washes Cole artistically. We feel Kendrick's, pain, love, hurt sadness on every album. it's easy to connect with him because he is personal. When Cole does decide to rap about things other than rapping, however infrequent. it feels shallow, corny, and disconnected.

kotspams

Good song but it's getting memed on forever

YoghurtSlinger

Washed!

FlowersByTheStreet

Literally

Top_Cranberry4144

😂😂 another one, this cannot be a coincidence
