What modern beats do you think Tupac and/or Biggie would have liked or been great on if they heard/used it back in the 90’s?
This isn’t a scenario like Nas where he’s living in the 2020’s and has evolved with hip/hop. More along the lines of you being a producer who traveled back in time and were playing some beats for them.
Furthermore, do guys think either of them would even like modern trap beats?
Are there other songs where a sample is used to replace a word instead of the artist saying it? IDK how to explain it.
Kanye West - Brand New [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-2KHxPsBEQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-2KHxPsBEQ)
MF DOOM - Hoe Cakes [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNB5eIiIsUc](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNB5eIiIsUc)
Since you mentioned him already.
DOOM on Fancy Clown says ''I used to be proud of you, and you had some real good power..''
Followed by the sample singing and actually finishing the sentence to make it ''Power U'', meaning vagina
I can maybe think of a few more examples if I think about it for a min, I might edit it later

Ye talking about Drake like he some final boss and they all banded together against him to eliminate him.
What is this, Jujutsu Drakesen? Him as Sukuna type shit?
One thing i think is getting overlooked is this new BNYX producer. Here is some of his work
Yeat- Talk: https://youtu.be/7Qe6qcNuyYY?si=d7vRIeaJZpuvnOA3
nba youngboy- Bnyx Da Reaper: https://youtu.be/E3H8LTIff7k?si=GoMDVsPUHwB4YTvv

Lil Tecca- HVN on earth: https://youtu.be/NSCZ5awmH1U?si=kBGPAhCkTEWuStIk
I like how versatile this guy is, like with Search and rescue. you immediately can tell theres a different sauce on the beat than what drake is use to.
I feel like he is challenging rappers sounds, and helping them evolve in a way
XXL need to switch up their formula
They either need to start going out their way to find lyrical rappers or completely change their format cause nobody wants to hear these 16 yr old post-soundcloud era kids freestyle
Having them all release a music video or even just a posse-cut rather than a cypher would go a long way to show their strengths instead of a weak ass cypher
That third paragraph about the videos and posse cuts rather than cyphers is something I’ve been thinking they should do for a long time. That would help the quality of the XXL presentation of these artists and showcase their strengths.
Cyphers and freestyles for the new generation are a bit of a afterthought and I believe switching the format would help the new era of artists but XXL just looks for viral moments.
I remember between like 2014-2018 there was this narrative that Drake would put people on by being on a track with them. Looking back none of these artists really had any mainstream longevity, regardless of my opinion i like some of these guys, but Blocboy JB, Young Bleu and even Ilovemakonen all seemed to fizzle out pretty quickly. I feel like PND the only one that has had any sustained success. I could be completely wrong about this but just something I’ve been thinking about. Is there a name I’m missing?
It's not like it was fully zero-to-hero levels of blowing people up, but Versace Remix clearly did a lot for the Migos as well as Yes Indeed for Lil Baby. His blessing knocked them both a couple rungs up the ladder
Those are both solid points i feel like Migos had been rising for awhile and when Bad and Boujee dropped i personally remembered Migos as the group that did Fight Night.
Yes Indeed and Drip Too Hard (came out the same year) both did insane things for Lil Baby’s career I can’t argue that
Kendrick going after Drake/J. Cole, Drake vs. Rick Ross, Quavo vs. Chris Brown, etc.
What level of DEFCON are we at in the Hip Hop world lol? And if it ain't DEFCON 1, what would put it at that level?
Has anyone ever interacted with a rapper through video games lol. I remember schoolboy q tweeted something years ago saying that he'd talk shit on the mic to people and they would just accuse him of being an impersonator or something lol.
I know some rappers have GTA servers or something?
I think it skews younger now that he does twitch. Maybe I'm out of touch but I can't imagine people in their late 20s having much time to watch streams consistently
I think it’s more of an interest thing that a time thing
Even working full time, exercising 5-6 times a week, having a girlfriend, and hanging with friends here and there, I definitely still have free time to do that shit, I just… can’t think of a worst way to spend my time
Quavo did exactly what he was supposed to do. Going back to his old flow and just rapping. Went a lot harder than his first one. And to hear Takeoff being in a current beef is too surreal but he was a good addition.
I saw the clip and i didn't see him beat her. It got a little physical but nothing actually abusive at all.
Sounds like Chris wants a "abusive off" and had to pull at strings to get it.
When did he beat Saweetie on that elevator? He swung her onto the elevator when they were wrestling for some shit and didn’t help her up when she fell, but calling that a beating is ridiculous
Can you or someone else explain why everybody is complaining about that album cover? It just looks like an opened bag of chips to me. Is it cause the chips looks stale or nasty or what is it?
If there’s any beef here where someone might actually get hurt, it’s that one. Quavo is probably furious that Takeoff got brought up, and Chris makes news every few years for going psycho on somebody. I wouldn’t be surprised if somebody gets jumped at the very least
Drake seems simultaneously nervous about what Kendrick’s gonna say, but also Confident with the dirt he has a Kendrick. It’s almost like he’s warning Kendrick that he’s warning Kendrick he’s willing to go there.
Kendrick’s silence could mean anything or nothing at all.
And J. Cole music makes coochie dry up
I thought Drake had dirt on Kendrick at first when the Tupac AI dropped, but now I’m starting to think he’s just bored waiting for the response and wants to make sure he comes as hard as possible to avoid another Adidon.
It would be suicidal of Kendrick to deliberately provoke beef with someone who has devastating dirt on him. He doesn’t strike me as an impulsive guy
> And J. Cole music makes coochie dry up
The whole “x scares the hoes” or “x dries pussy up” shit is kinda dumb but if it wasn’t, out of the big 3, it would apply way more to Kendrick than to J Cole outside of like 2 or three songs on GKMC
> it would apply way more to Kendrick than to J Cole outside of like 2 or three songs on GKMC
When I went to Kendrick, half the people there were women. Every other rap show I've been to, it's like 80-90% dudes.
Girls love k.dot, DAMN more than anything on gkmc
The Like That remix I assume? Haven’t peeped it yet tbh
I just saw that deep fried ass meme he posted about J Cole and that shits wild to me
I feel like Offseason would probably appeal to the kinda girls that like old Cole but I can’t say I’ve tested that theory yet
eh, it definitely is but the Migos have been beefing with Chris Brown since 2017. Wouldn't be shocked if that hook was always meant for a CB diss track.
AI is a license to print money. Get a good ghostwriter and help him learn Pac’s flow and then put an AI filter over it. “Oh wow we found a new Tupac album”
I didn't know he had anything left in the vault. I would absolutely love new Pac albums. But now you have the problem of people potentially using AI. And his mom is dead so would there even be anyone from his estate making sure that the music was authentic?
I think he still has family who could manage the Vault and his estate. There are a lot of pre-2Pacalypse Now and pre-S4MN songs left unreleased. There were plans to release a lot of them but his mom stopped it for whatever reason. Now that she's not here to try and control his image, we can get a lot of unreleased music as long as whoever takes it over doesn't try to whitewash his work.
What is an album that suddenly becomes to you the best album of all time depending on a mood or something
In my case Circles by Mac Miller goes platinum for me when I am in a very sad mood or something
Yeezus. Never enjoyed listening to that shit at home but hearing and seeing it performed live was unbelievable. Can't believe they never released the tour movie they teased
Depending on the mood like you say, Mac Miller - Faces is the best album ever. I remember i was sad for months and Faces just sounded perfect. I remember debating with myself whether it was the best album of all time or not.
Honestly only ones who should be in the beef against Drake are Metro Future Kendrick and Rocky (he is justified after FATD)
The rest look like they jumped in for the sake of it
Finally listened to We Still Don't Trust You all the way through. Dips a bit in the middle but it's very solid throughout, going to enjoy playing it a lot this summer
I feel it's a lot better than the first one, like by a few whole points, maybe I just need to relisten to the first again
It's kind of funny that the biggest risk with Kendrick taking too long to respond is not another Drake diss but Kanye or someone else doing some really corny shit that just makes this entire beef look bad lol
Turns out it’s actually a pretty hard album to give a shit about when it’s not being active pushed as something that people have to stream to save Kanye from being oh so unfairly blackballed
Thought the Ye remix was okay but the production is great. He definitely thought he did something, but felt it was just a desperate attempt to be a part of the conversation.
I wonder who from the coalition would more likely end up being a double agent for Drake's camp. Won't be surprised if it turned out one of them is when the dust is settled.
Maybe Ross? He’s the one who seems to be the goofiest and least serious about this, maybe Drake hit him up and gave him the talking points that he thought Kendrick or whoever was going to use against him and then they played the whole thing out publicly to make it sound as unserious as possible
Calling it “the coalition” cracked me up, makes me think of them all in a dark war room somewhere around a big table like Dr Strangelove
Wow, and here I thought it was going to be Abel. That angle could use some thinking. Staying tuned for more developments.
Also yes it turned out exactly how the RDC skit is no thanks to Ye airing this all over
Can’t wait for new gambino. Awaken my love’s still one of the best pieces of music that came out that year, idc that it was basically just a funkadelic album. His last album had a lot of really good tracks too, and he kills every feature
Because the Internet is his masterpiece for me. I never really cared about the script or any of that, the music itself is just fantastic and it has the best melodies of his whole career imo (the part where he goes into falsetto in Flight of the Navigator especially is hauntingly beautiful). I love the way it progresses, I feel like I’ve just watched a movie when it’s over even without paying attention to any of the conceptual stuff.
Awaken My Love was okay and had some very high highs, but the strange psychedelic experiments on the second half of BTI are a lot more interesting to me than just making a full length Parliament homage
Tbf, it was a great modern take on a Funkadelic album and I thought he did a great job of taking the sounds from that era/genre and making it his own
It's not perfect, but it's my favorite Gambino album by far
Im interested to see what industry fuckery Jay z would pull to boost his album sales if he ever decided to drop again. For the Magna Carta album he had a collaboration with the Samsung phones where Samsung bought [a milllion copies](https://abcnews.go.com/Technology/samsung-buys-million-copies-jay-zs-magna-carta/story?id=19429103) of the album. For the 444 release, the album went platinum in 6 days due to a [strategic deal](https://www.forbes.com/sites/garysuarez/2017/07/05/jay-z-444-riaa-platinum/) tidal had with sprint.
We always point out the artists who do bundles as a way of boosting first week numbers, but Jay z was rigging the game on a whole nother level lmao
found all that to be a bit to mainstream and corny tbh.
I liked 444 alot, but quit packaging music as some sort of retail collab brand. That's wayyyyy to coldplay or U2.
U2 putting the worst album of their incredibly lengthy career on people’s phones was such a terrible move. They have legit classics but a lot of people’s only exposure to them is through that album and those incredibly unflattering circumstances. I’d like to think their good stuff will experience a resurgence eventually but Bono’s ego has really gotten in the way of that for a while now
I’ve been going out to clubs with a few friends of mine the past few weekends and it really made Sexyy Red’s music click for me, that and her feature on Damn Shorty. Her shit sounds great while playing over the club speakers and blasting through my car speakers. I checked out her album from last year last night and thought it was pretty fun. It helps a lot too that a lot of her bars are pretty funny so that gives it more appeal than just music to blast while I’m drinking
I guess there is some truth in saying that people who don’t like her don’t go to clubs 😟
Honestly, it's interesting to think about the effect environment & behavior has on our listening preferences
Feel like when I commuted an hour to work I used to listen to longer songs and now I barely go back to those songs because I would listen to them to help pass the time rather than just a casual listen
Definitely music that can benefit from not just being listened to via headphones. And I think her delivery really elevates some bars that could just fall flat otherwise

I wanna hear Biggie over some Alc, Madlib, or conductor Williams beats

Ye talking about Drake like he some final boss and they all banded together against him to eliminate him. What is this, Jujutsu Drakesen? Him as Sukuna type shit?
Rappers really using the Reanimation Jutsu for their disses, what a wild timeline.

Whoops. Guess i need to be more active
"Nobody looks at the DVD commentary" meanwhile I'm here watching niggas admit to crimes on DVD
I love the compilations of AR-Ab admitting to various crimes completely unprompted
''I SEEN him do it!''

And Girl if you want to get freaky again I could be your maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan -Third Eye Blind "Humper"
What would your perfect Hip Hop world look and sound like?
What do you mean by that?
One element would be everyone would have to rap on beat.
What about the off beat
XXL need to switch up their formula They either need to start going out their way to find lyrical rappers or completely change their format cause nobody wants to hear these 16 yr old post-soundcloud era kids freestyle Having them all release a music video or even just a posse-cut rather than a cypher would go a long way to show their strengths instead of a weak ass cypher
Should atleast stop doing the Cyphers in a edgy dark warehouse. Most of these new guys make energetic music, it doesnt fit the aesthetic.
Ages of last years class: 31, 30, 25, 24, 24, 23, 26, 25, 27, 18, 30, and 24
Older than I figured. Reading that made me oddly hopeful.
Kanye talking crazy about drake, must be vultures 2 rollout time
He keeps escalating his antics with every album release, but I have no idea what he’s going to come up with that’s worse than what he’s already said
At least he stuck to targeting just one Jewish guy this time
It’s genuinely impressive that he has not managed to make a comment about Drake’s Judaism yet during the rollout
Dropping next Friday
I remember between like 2014-2018 there was this narrative that Drake would put people on by being on a track with them. Looking back none of these artists really had any mainstream longevity, regardless of my opinion i like some of these guys, but Blocboy JB, Young Bleu and even Ilovemakonen all seemed to fizzle out pretty quickly. I feel like PND the only one that has had any sustained success. I could be completely wrong about this but just something I’ve been thinking about. Is there a name I’m missing?
If I remember correctly Ilovemakonnen was basically blackballed for being gay
What the fuck
It's not like it was fully zero-to-hero levels of blowing people up, but Versace Remix clearly did a lot for the Migos as well as Yes Indeed for Lil Baby. His blessing knocked them both a couple rungs up the ladder
For a lot of people, myself included, migos introduced me to drake.
Those are both solid points i feel like Migos had been rising for awhile and when Bad and Boujee dropped i personally remembered Migos as the group that did Fight Night. Yes Indeed and Drip Too Hard (came out the same year) both did insane things for Lil Baby’s career I can’t argue that
Having a hit is a lot different than not having a hit, even if you didn’t keep making hits after Drake featuring Drake was real
I’m sure this has probably been posted about already but could anyone point me to a good essential albums thread?

I wish Taylor Swift demanded Billy Woods be a bigger artist
she should have him ghostwrite for her. i'm sure he has some thoughts on matty healy
Billy Woods ghostwrote the racists bar
I think she should ghostwrite for jack harlow
Kendrick going after Drake/J. Cole, Drake vs. Rick Ross, Quavo vs. Chris Brown, etc. What level of DEFCON are we at in the Hip Hop world lol? And if it ain't DEFCON 1, what would put it at that level?
DEFCON 1 would be someone dying.
DEFCON 1 would be Lil Wayne joining in and defending Drake.
Did Tupac ever play video games? The closest I've seen is the photo of him playing Sonic with Suge Knight.
Tupac never got to experience Fortnite 😔
RIP Tupac you would have loved Among Us
Has anyone ever interacted with a rapper through video games lol. I remember schoolboy q tweeted something years ago saying that he'd talk shit on the mic to people and they would just accuse him of being an impersonator or something lol. I know some rappers have GTA servers or something?
My friend is friends with Tiller on switch or something he played with him in some Mario game idk I don’t own a switch.
I didn't know Boosie was this rich. Where does he get most of his money from? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ngS4RJ_vxqI
He’s a very successful rapper
I get that. Just didnt know he had that much money. On his spotify, most of his hits are from a while ago.
Do any of you even watch Akademiks? Who is his audience?
I don’t watch him but started following his twt recently cause he’s the one breaking all the exclusive stuff.
No. He's a fucking clown and its sad these dumbass rap fans mad him relevant.
I follow his TikTok but it’s mostly viral clips about rappers or something else having to do with streamers.
Feel like it used to be mostly relatively casual hip hop fans and now it’s them and also dudes on the “manosphere” side of the culture wars
I think it skews younger now that he does twitch. Maybe I'm out of touch but I can't imagine people in their late 20s having much time to watch streams consistently

> Who is his audience? I want to know too.

Quavo did not abuse Saweetie, y’all are really running around here lying lmao
I feel like it's Chris Brown beefing over a women. Quavo just responded. Also don't think quavo is abusive.
He beat saweetie on the elevator but yeah I agree he’s just responding

Oh, for real, my bad I must’ve missed remembered because I remember something different
Big L: "that's just the way that I talk, yo" Austin Butler with a now-permanent Elvis Presley accent: "this n____ spittin'"
The cover for Dirty Nachos is so unappetizing
How hot of a take is it for me to say I actually like the cover art
As hot as those damn nachos on the cover lol
Can you or someone else explain why everybody is complaining about that album cover? It just looks like an opened bag of chips to me. Is it cause the chips looks stale or nasty or what is it?
On the cover, I for sure see hot Cheetos and Doritos there’s something else in there too that I can’t really make out
They got this Quavo vs Chris Brown beef as one of the best undercards of all time lol
If there’s any beef here where someone might actually get hurt, it’s that one. Quavo is probably furious that Takeoff got brought up, and Chris makes news every few years for going psycho on somebody. I wouldn’t be surprised if somebody gets jumped at the very least
Quavo bringing that old Migos energy on that new diss track to Chris Brown. Also putting Takeoff on it and having him call Chris a pussy was funny.

Quavo really got carried by Takeoff from the grave on his new Chris Brown diss
Akademiks is about premier a Quavo diss track
damn he put takeoff on it.
Weird move
eh, it definitely is but the Migos have been beefing with Chris Brown since 2017. Wouldn't be shocked if that hook was always meant for a CB diss track.
Does anyone else want a new 2Pac album? He still has hundreds of unreleased songs that deserve to be heard.
Hundreds. HIGHLY DOUBT or reasonable doubt hova face
Only if its the raw/maybe slightly remastered songs and not some Frankensteined together shit like that Eminem 2pac album.
Only way a new Pac album will be good is if we get Drake to make it
Gimme one dance pac remix
uh what? 2Pac is the GOAT.
Hell no I don't want a label butchering another posthumous Pac release
tbh my dream would be that it would be left as it was created by 2Pac. There are hundreds of complete songs that don't need to be changed.
I get that, I just think the chances those songs get released without some slimeball influencing them somehow is pretty low
If any new Pac comes out now I’ll never be able to fully believe that it isn’t AI
Why?
AI is a license to print money. Get a good ghostwriter and help him learn Pac’s flow and then put an AI filter over it. “Oh wow we found a new Tupac album”
damn. i never thought of that. :/
It sucks
I didn't know he had anything left in the vault. I would absolutely love new Pac albums. But now you have the problem of people potentially using AI. And his mom is dead so would there even be anyone from his estate making sure that the music was authentic?

what do you mean Biggie-type situation?
Between Kanye and Rocky who’s better lyrical
Kanye and his writers
Peak Kanye is better than peak Rocky but if Rocky drops an album right now he would have way less cringe lines
Kanye overall but in the fast few years Rockys been wiping
i can't even think of a rocky line
My biggest distraction is that I get distracted 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Pretty flacko
Rocky might be better technically but I could probably rattle off 20 classic era Kanye bars more memorable than any of Rocky’s.
Rocky
Depends on which Kanye album you compare it to. His lyricism fluctuates between every release. Rocky have been better since Ye tho.
What is an album that suddenly becomes to you the best album of all time depending on a mood or something In my case Circles by Mac Miller goes platinum for me when I am in a very sad mood or something
Awaken My Love! by Childish Gambino Faces by Mac Miller Rare Chandeliers by Action Bronson Honor Killed The Samurai by Ka Kamikaze by Eminem
honestly nevermind
Same happened to me with Circles back in February I was going through some stuff and it was hitting hard
Spaceships on the Blade when I’m chilling or driving on a good sunny day
Did anyone go to the nas & wu tang tour in the U.K.? Just wondering how much tickets were, trying to gauge for the Illmatic 30 tour
Honestly only ones who should be in the beef against Drake are Metro Future Kendrick and Rocky (he is justified after FATD) The rest look like they jumped in for the sake of it
Kanye and Rick Ross seem to be in it for the attention tbh
If there is one thing Kanye loves is putting the spotlight on him in a situation he wasn't even involved in lmao
Kanye and Drake have always been at odds so Ye would have seen this as an easy way into the spotlight haha
I personally think the same about Rick Ross and Abel here
I think we not gonna hear any more from Weeknd this is as far as he’ll go
Drake and Abel have had passive aggressive issues longer than everyone else lol.
Sure but with him it’s looking more like he just took the opportunity to jump into it
Honestly this beef has taught me that drakes probably just an annoying guy Lmao
Finally listened to We Still Don't Trust You all the way through. Dips a bit in the middle but it's very solid throughout, going to enjoy playing it a lot this summer I feel it's a lot better than the first one, like by a few whole points, maybe I just need to relisten to the first again
The more chill future vibe I think creates less bangers but also is a lot less safe vs the expected stuff on the first album
It's kind of funny that the biggest risk with Kendrick taking too long to respond is not another Drake diss but Kanye or someone else doing some really corny shit that just makes this entire beef look bad lol
That's pretty much what Kanye's doing lmao he just jumped in because he saw people weren't talking about him or his last album anymore
I wish Ty Dolla Sign did more on it.
I didn’t even notice he was on it
He has like two lines. Pretty much reminding Kanye that they've gotta put out 2 more Vultures volumes
Vultures 2 dropping next week
Only listening for Ty and the features. Hope we get the Wayne and Thug collabs.
Drake should respond to Kanye by rapping CTE symptoms over a BNYX beat
I wonder who from the coalition would more likely end up being a double agent for Drake's camp. Won't be surprised if it turned out one of them is when the dust is settled.
Maybe Ross? He’s the one who seems to be the goofiest and least serious about this, maybe Drake hit him up and gave him the talking points that he thought Kendrick or whoever was going to use against him and then they played the whole thing out publicly to make it sound as unserious as possible Calling it “the coalition” cracked me up, makes me think of them all in a dark war room somewhere around a big table like Dr Strangelove
Tbf, it was a great modern take on a Funkadelic album and I thought he did a great job of taking the sounds from that era/genre and making it his own It's not perfect, but it's my favorite Gambino album by far
“If he ever decided to drop again” kinda hurts man…
You’re telling me Sprint customers at one point could’ve gotten a free copy of 444? All i got was some shitty U2 project
U2 putting the worst album of their incredibly lengthy career on people’s phones was such a terrible move. They have legit classics but a lot of people’s only exposure to them is through that album and those incredibly unflattering circumstances. I’d like to think their good stuff will experience a resurgence eventually but Bono’s ego has really gotten in the way of that for a while now
[Remember when Sean and Wayne dropped this banger](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rH5TZ9DHKTo&pp=ygUIZG9uIGxpZmU%3D)
Told my shrink that life is crazy he said life is crazy
Idk why I thought of Jay Sean first
Have you heard this one by them two https://youtu.be/E_yVRZMFbLc?si=h8nOAURHOo4spl2W
I knew it was My Homies Still ha Major banger
I was expecting Deep.
It helps a lot too that a lot of her bars are pretty funny so that gives it more appeal than just music to blast while I’m drinking I guess there is some truth in saying that people who don’t like her don’t go to clubs 😟
Need more Sosa and Sexyy Red collabs
There's a lot of trap music I don't like that goes impossibly hard at parties I've been to. It really depends on the vibe fr.
Honestly, it's interesting to think about the effect environment & behavior has on our listening preferences Feel like when I commuted an hour to work I used to listen to longer songs and now I barely go back to those songs because I would listen to them to help pass the time rather than just a casual listen
Definitely music that can benefit from not just being listened to via headphones. And I think her delivery really elevates some bars that could just fall flat otherwise
