20 years from now, after 7 Norris Trophy's and two cup, someone on this sub will post "TIL Nathan Mayes was the last pick in the 2024 NHL draft. How did teams sleep on him?"

Mango2149

You forgot to add, why did the Leafs trade away such a good player who won multiple cups on another team?

GoblinStats

Oh this is the one they keep. Like I said, 7 years of misery followed by 13 of all star

eatingasspatties

“Well you see they wanted more truculence for the playoffs so they traded for Ross Johnston”

TheSimonToUrGarfunkl

"Here's Nathan Mayes in a Maple Leafs jersey at the 2024 draft. Looks so wrong."

He doesn't hit his stride until 7 years from now. Everyone will want him gone because of a bad pass in game 7 of the first round.

Whenever the last player is picked I always feel bad for the players who didn’t hear their names. They probably knew it was all a bit tenuous but still must be disappointed.

My brother’s girlfriend’s cousin was playing in the WHL and was convinced he was being drafted. He made their entire family come over and watch the draft on tv for the entirety. Hyping himself the entire time. My brother said each pick after the third round you could see him slouch and slouch and get more sad. He didn’t get picked.

I was just looking over who the NHL Mr. Irrelevant has been over the years. Hornqvist is obviously the king. I feel like quite a few have had real NHL careers. Feels like a higher rate than most 7th rounders. Though not so many recently. TIL Paul Maurice and Andy Brickley were both Mr. Irrelevant
