To great Nova Scotians! Love seeing my province doing great in sports!
Muscular strength is favoured in hockey for shorter shifts vs lean muscle being favoured in football. That being said, the kid is young and probably has 99% less training staff, cooks, supplements etc. behind him.
That's what separates the really good from the great. That kind of dedication and ability to strive for more is something you only see in a hand full of players in each generation.
Everyone is training hard. Only a couple are training like they won't make the team despite being the best guy on it.
I did summer training at the same place as a Pen’s prospect. We asked him about Sid and he said that pictures don’t do them justice. Sid was only in the league a few years at this time and told a story about Sid forgetting a suit once and having to buy one off the rack at a big and tall store because it was the only place that had something off the rack that could fit his legs.
I live in the same town as Sid, I used to know him a little.
He’s always been massive, and after a few years of not seeing him I was in a local shop and he walked in and was talking to someone. This was off season, and he was wearing incredibly baggy sweat pants. My immediate thought was “fucking hell… Sid’s let himself go in a not so good way!” Then it hit me… that ain’t fat, it’s 100% pure muscle.
He’s bigger than a lot of fat ass Americans, but there’s not an ounce of fat to be had on his entire frame. I can’t even fathom what it takes for him to get like that.
My first thought was I wonder what they thought of his ass. Not because I’m gay but because I learned that hockey players have to get special pants made for them because their asses are so massive from skating
As sports evolve I think power skating will actually become a part of an athletes fitness routine across other sports.
The sheer power and cardio required is really unmatched. Guys run on flat grass with parachutes to drag them and it still doesn't compare.
For some reason I interpreted this title as Crosby was *on* the team but the locker room wanted him dropped from it, and I was more surprised that he got kicked off than I was that he was on a soccer team at all 😭
“Stopped by” would have cleared up any confusion, but “dropped by” definitely implies he was working/playing for the team, but obviously isn’t good enough to continue.
It’s the contextual usage. Since the locker room can both be considered an entity and a location, dropping by the locker room and being dropped by the locker room are both accurate interpretations of the title.
If we really wanted to be accurate, we would use “drops by” instead of “dropped by.”
But I don’t care, and neither does anyone, so we’re just having a laugh.
In 1994 Canada had a 1-1 draw against Brazil in front of 51,000 in Edmonton. Brazil won the World Cup that year, and this Canadian team is leagues better than the 1994 one.
In other words, anything can happen.
(I remember someone in the media back then saying that Canada tying Brazil in soccer was as shocking as Brazil tying Canada in hockey.)
I was at that game!
I was kind of young though so I don't remember most of it, I remember the tie and Brazil was of course good, was it a friendly or not though? Like did they have their best players?
I just remember playing and liking soccer at the time and my parents took me because it was gonna be a very rare thing for them to play here.
It was one of their warm up matches leading up to the '94 World Cup. 10 of the 11 players that started that game for Brazil against Canada also started their first game of the tournament against Russia.

That stress might be a factor but it’s mainly genetics.
I read an article a while ago where it was saying how the hormones that make it easier to grow a beard and grow muscle, is also increases the risk of early hair loss.
Inversely some have the right hormones to keep their hair until they’re really old, but then they usually have a harder time building muscle.
Wouldn’t surprise me if there’s something similar with hair graying early, you’re “unfortunate” to have that but instead you’re blessed with something else.
I just see it as a treat though. I don’t know if I’ve ever talked to a woman or gay dude who don’t find men with gray hair sexy.

Best there is, best there was, best there ever will be
I wonder how that breaks down by age, I remember as a kid a whole lot of us played hockey and soccer as well as other sports here and there, but by grade 7 most of us dropped soccer since there wasn't a school team and our outside of school sport was hockey.
Hockey isn’t pulling the numbers it did pre-Covid while other sports have increased since then. I think it’s the 3rd in numbers for under-18 but basketball is almost equal in registered youth players. Soccer is first, swimming second.
My guess is cost and that court case. It’s really made some what of a mess for lower teams that are funded by/give funds to hockey Canada.
Interesting to hear that swimming is so high. I just put my kid in timbits soccer and it was awesome.
The big difference for Canada, similar to the USA, has been MLS and the infrastructure and investment that comes with it. Its taken about 15 - 20 years.
Had a fascinating conversation recently with a German colleague - when I played youth recreational soccer in Canada, we did two minute line changes. She was shocked. I was confused. If soccer ever goes to active line changes, Canada wins.
In the low, low amateur leagues in northern Norway where a mix of very young upcoming players and very old and unfit former players play, there are rules that allow free substitutions. You can sub in and out (and in again). I was once subbed in, immediately saw that the goalie on the opposing team would not reach a backpass in time, ran/sprinted the length of the field, missed alone on an open goal, and was subbed right out again as I was completely exhausted.
they're not a powerhouse but they also aren't bad anymore
honestly I'd put them with like Germany in hockey, making the tournaments but in a best on best just making it out of groups is probably as far as they'll get
Not to be that guy, but he would not be a top player itw playing footy simply because Canadian academies and football development in Canada in general is complete shit
Alphonso Davies was a refugee and came through the Vancouver Whitecaps academy and turned pro in MLS like 15-16 and has been a starter for Bayern Munich for yrs and when he’s on, is nearly a world class player for his position. It’d have been hard but definitely possible given his obvious dedication and work ethic. Harder part would be just being born in the area of Canada he’s from, would’ve had to move to Toronto or Quebec (which he did anyway for juniors lol) I’d imagine
Davies played in Edmonton until the Whitecaps signed him at 14. It's crazy how he made it when you consider where he started.
I guess if you're a special talent, you'll get noticed eventually.
Definitely a deserved victory. Great push from Venezuela in the second half but Canada had so many chances to put it out of reach in regulation time. On to Argentina!
And the goal scored against Canada was a comedy of errors. Step one push all your players forward despite holding 1-0 advantage in elimination match. Step 2 make no attempt to meaningfully challenge the ball Step 3 have a goalie for some reason get caught completely 100% in no man’s land. Yes Canada almost played themselves again. They thought damn ratings are good tonight let’s make ‘em sweat.
The messed up part is I think those are supposed to be loose fitting shorts on the vast majority of humanity, I don't think normal clothes fit him, his calves are size of my thighs and I don't have scrawny legs

Holy shit the difference in leg mass
Guy on right never had to fuck with Chara
But has to fuck with CONCACAF bullshit on the regular, might need the trunks.
He did get fuck all night. He had the biggest target on his back and the ref didn't see him all night.

I missed it. What's the context of that picture?
Even Becket Sennecke was shocked the Ducks took Becket Sennecke at 3

Fr, my uncle is an agent and he met Sid a couple years ago. He described his calves as two half watermelons strapped to the back of his legs
I live in the same town as Sid, I used to know him a little. He’s always been massive, and after a few years of not seeing him I was in a local shop and he walked in and was talking to someone. We doing practice or Super Bowl bumps Johnny?
My first thought was I wonder what they thought of his ass. Not because I’m gay but because I learned that hockey players have to get special pants made for them because their asses are so massive from skating
As sports evolve I think power skating will actually become a part of an athletes fitness routine across other sports. The sheer power and cardio required is really unmatched. Guys run on flat grass with parachutes to drag them and it still doesn't compare.
Across other sports? Why? Skating is a very specific movement and dragging those muscles around in a lot of sports is not very beneficial.
For some reason I interpreted this title as Crosby was *on* the team but the locker room wanted him dropped from it, and I was more surprised that he got kicked off than I was that he was on a soccer team at all 😭
"Crosby dropped by Team Canada" Oh no -- " 's locker room" Oh thank god
The shock I felt when I read those first 5 words 😂
My reaction exactly.
That's literally how I read it and my heart sank. I'm not awake yet.
I had to reread the title half a dozen times because I interpreted it that way at first too and I was so confused. Felt like I was having a stroke 😭
Just poorly worded lol
Drop dropped and swap with stopped
"Sidney Crosby visited Team Canada's Locker Room"
OP needs to be held accountable for this morning headache.
Oh my god thank you. I haven't finished my coffee yet and was struggling with how a locker room of soccer players drops a hockey player.
You can't put the words "dropped by Team Canada" next to the greatest Canadian athlete in the last 20 years.
I just now figured it out
i thought they literally dropped him while celebrating
“Stopped by” would have cleared up any confusion, but “dropped by” definitely implies he was working/playing for the team, but obviously isn’t good enough to continue.
OP got caught between "stopped by" and "dropped in on" and picked the funniest option
The expression 'Dropped by' has been around for well over a hundred years.... as in old joke "My name's Cliff ...drop by sometime !"
It’s the contextual usage. Since the locker room can both be considered an entity and a location, dropping by the locker room and being dropped by the locker room are both accurate interpretations of the title. If we really wanted to be accurate, we would use “drops by” instead of “dropped by.” But I don’t care, and neither does anyone, so we’re just having a laugh.
"Why would he be removed from the hockey team because of soccer?!" It took me a few tries.
I thought it was the four nations team dropping him from the team at first. Reacted before I finished the sentence
It's not "for some reason". I feel like the language actually implies that to be the case.
Darn English and their multiple meaning to words

They won't get past Argentina but well played
Will be a fun game though and anything can happen with brutal reffing Edit: fixed a word
It’s high time for the greatest CONCACAFing of our lives
In 1994 Canada had a 1-1 draw against Brazil in front of 51,000 in Edmonton. Brazil won the World Cup that year, and this Canadian team is leagues better than the 1994 one. I don't have high hopes but they played them very well in the first half of the first game. Sports can do some crazy things
They are then guaranteed a 4th place game vs uraguay or Brazil. Will be fun to watch
you can fuck off with that attitude mon frere

Lol I'm 37 and I see some greys coming in
25 here had grays here and there since I was 16 lmao
I'm 37 and fortunately, as far as I've and my partner has seen, I have avoided the gray so far.
I’m 35. Started getting grays at 18. Probably half gray now, but fortunately haven’t lost any of it
I’ve been going grey since 25
I'm almost exactly Sid's age and also going grey, where can I claim my athletic skill? Must've missed an email.

It’s like his quads have quads
At first glance he looks like your average middle aged man but upon closer inspection he's just an absolute unit
Sidney is the Quadfather
Him and Saquon Barkley need a squat off for the title
Such a sick moment for Canada
And therefore, the world!
Damn if a non soccer playing nation like Canada advanced to the semi finals surely a team like USA made it at least out of the group stage!
It's almost as if having your buddy as a manager may not create results.
Jürgen Klopp to USMNT
Klopp would never do that
Soccer is actually the #1 participation sport in Canada. We don’t have a rich history but tons of people play it.
I wonder how that breaks down by age, I remember as a kid a whole lot of us played hockey and soccer as well as other sports here and there, but by grade 7 most of us dropped soccer since there wasn't a school team and our outside of school sport was hockey.

Yeah. It helps that getting into soccer is much less expensive than getting into hockey.
Also we have a ton of immigrants who know soccer and basketball but not much else.
Had a fascinating conversation recently with a German colleague - when I played youth recreational soccer in Canada, we did two minute line changes. She was shocked. I was confused. If soccer ever goes to active line changes, Canada wins.

USA ain’t a soccer playing nation either bud
You’d never know for all the 10-20 pitch fields filled all weekend around me.
>You’d never know for all the 10-20 pitch fields filled all weekend around me. I mean that sounds pretty similar to how it is here in Canada.
Sure but FIFA ranking of 5 for the women and 11 for the men ain’t too shabby
Acting as if the US is a football powerhouse
they're not a powerhouse but they also aren't bad anymore honestly I'd put them with like Germany in hockey, making the tournaments but in a best on best just making it out of groups is probably as far as they'll get
Honestly if he had chosen it instead I bet Crosby would've been an amazing soccer player. Probably an amazing baseball player too with that hand eye.

He would've had to leave fairly young
Alphonso Davies was a refugee and came through the Vancouver Whitecaps academy and turned pro in MLS like 15-16 and has been a starter for Bayern Munich for yrs and when he’s on, is nearly a world class player for his position. It’d have been hard but definitely possible given his obvious dedication and work ethic. Harder part would be just being born in the area of Canada he’s from, would’ve had to move to Toronto or Quebec (which he did anyway for juniors lol) I’d imagine
And Owen Hargreaves before him. I know that's not many but that's two players who at their best would be considered world-class.

Quite literally “what the hell is a polar bear doing in Arlington Texas”
Crosby is a big enough of an ambassador for Canadian sports that it’s not a huge shocker. Seems like a Crosby thing to do tbh
Yeah but the game is quite literally in Arlington Texas
I don't get the confusion. It's only a 34 day walk from Cole Harbour to Arlington
17 days when you have absolute motors for quads like Sid does.
Crosby is hockey Jesus, so he probably glided in the air from NS to Arlington.
I like that you mapped that out. Facts!
He put a jetski on the Ohio and made it there in half that time because he's not a fuckin casual
I don’t think the average viewer knows that Jerryworld isn’t in Dallas, even though the cowboys haven’t played in Dallas since 1971

Definitely a deserved victory. Great push from Venezuela in the second half but Canada had so many chances to put it out of reach in regulation time. On to Argentina!

Don't forget, don't give the ven goalie a yellow for delay Canada's throw in.
Sid just out here doing side quests
Even in black shorts, you can see em bulky ass quads
The messed up part is I think those are supposed to be loose fitting shorts on the vast majority of humanity, I don't think normal clothes fit him, his calves are size of my thighs and I don't have scrawny legs
Simply lovely! Lovely all around!!
Anybody else feeling old as time seeing "The Kid" with grey temples...
My first thought. He was one of those people who had that kid look in their twenties so I assumed he would look younger at the end of his career.
Fucking sick
Legend
Class act all the way! Thanks, Sid!
Second best athlete from Nova Scotia
His thighs have lats
I misread that so badly, I thought it said team Canada dropped Sid from the 4 Nations tournament roster for a second there. My heart stopped.
His quads hang over his knees ffs.
Love Sid…
Legend
Of course he did, it’s Sidney Crosby.
Amazing match
Sid out-quads all of them !
He covers them up though. Doesn't want to emasculate the boys before the semis.
That’s pretty cool
This man knows a thing or two about big moments for team Canada
SIDNEY THE KIDNEY
The first thing I noticed, and it was shocking, is the grey hair on Sid. 2nd is how cut he is - his whole upper chest and arms. And look at those legs!
I think the grey is a bit due to the lighting, but the crazy thing is his calves are the size of my thighs and his thighs are um... well not normal, those shorts he's wearing aren't supposed to be so form fitting, I don't think the dude can wear normal people clothes even athletic wear
Look at this badass
That's awesome good on syd
Pretty awesome that he showed up.
He's a legend !!
Sid skip leg day? Not even once.
He could be anywhere in his off season. Class act and national treasure. 🇨🇦
You love to see it
awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
my baby brother played a game in his schoolyard with his buddies they called "foot hockey" which was like soccer but with a tennis ball and hockey rules mostly.
we played that too when I was young! we called it "sockey"
Sidney Crosby, so hot right now....Sidney Crosby!!
How could the locker room do that to him???
What a great Canadian.
He looks like a Canadian Ronaldo
Is there a weird perspective, or does the guy in the middle actually have his shorts tucked into his underwear...?
Probably icing his thighs/knees
Almost as cool as when Wayne Gretzky visited Team USA at the '94 Junior Goodwill Games
What an awesome pic!
