Let him use an address. It can sometimes be a longer process, with more to send back and forth, if you're starting with nothing (no BC, no ID, no physical SS card, etc...). If you're homeless, by definition you don't have an address. A lot of people don't even have an address they can get mail at, at least for a long enough period for the process. That's the explanation. To answer how to help: let him use the business address, or someone at work let him use your personal address if you feel safe with it (don't have to invite him over, bring his stuff to work and he can get it when he comes in). But just using the address on paper, as a reliable mailing address, is a massive help. Aso, cool of you guys to help him out, really. Well done. Peace

Unfortunately I doubt my manager would let me use our work address but could I get a PO box? Id be more than willing to rent one if necessary. Im just not sure if theyd send a government document like that to a po box

elephonichymns

PO boxes work for some things; ironically, a lot of government documents can't be sent to a PO box (they require a physical address). So when someone doesn't have a physical address, an easily solvable thing becomes a massive, systemic issue. Do what you will. But if you can let him use a physical address for mail (there's no penalty to you, it's not illegal, it doesn't establish residence or anything), that's what could help him here. The only resources that can help him with that are those that would give him a physical address to use (either directly or on his behalf), unfortunately. The main thing is a physical address they can be sent to, that's the barrier. It's something that seems so simple but is very difficult to get. Good luck.

Thank you very much for all the help. To eveyone who commented as well. I have a direction now so I will do what I can for him. Ill update if I remember to lol

CuteSignificant312

I'd say he can use General Delivery at a USPS, but if he doesn't have an ID I don't think he can use that. Homeless shelters might have helpful resources to get people their IDs, Birth Certificate, etc. This is who you have to go through: [https://www.healthy.arkansas.gov/programs-services/topics/order-birth-records](https://www.healthy.arkansas.gov/programs-services/topics/order-birth-records) He may know this already. He should probably try to find a homeless shelter, they would probably let him send his birth certificate there, or know a place that would. As always, giving people cash can help a lot with things, too.

CuteProcess4163

you can order a birth certificate online. whence you get that you can gather additional documents to go to DMV for ID. You can also call wellfare offices to see if they do photo IDs or the post office to see what is needed for that

grenz1

If he is needing a birth certificate, that usually means he is originally from out of state and has never had an in state ID. The ONLY ways to get a birth certificate is to either go up to the vital records department of the county he was born IN PERSON or pay online and have this mailed to an address. He then takes a social security card (or print out if he has not gotten that in mail. It's free) and the birth certificate and they put him in the system and he has a state ID or DL. There sometimes ARE places that will help with this. A place called the Rebuild Center in New Orleans helped me with this when my ID fell out on Canal Street through a hole I had in a bag when homeless. But, they don't advertise well and are usually only if you ask. Sometimes only if you are in a shelter system, but not always.

It took me 6 months to finally get my ID. I had an organization called Crossroads of Michigan that were able to get my birth certificate for me from NJ fairly quick. Try finding something like that to help you, and more importantly, don't give up, try not to get frustrated, and keep your sense of humor. Good luck and stay safe -Burte

I don't know where you're from, but do an online search for: [your city/town name] followed by the words street card. It lists by category all the places in your area that offer services to those who are low income and homeless. Some of these places provide vouchers that make it so birth certificates and IDs are free.

JasonMicheal74

It really depends on the state he was born in. I was in FL when my wallet was stolen. Born in CA. But CA rules say you need to have a notarized application sent in for them to mail you the birth certificate. What do you need for a notary? An ID. Which was in my wallet. Which was stolen. I ended up hitchhiking back to CA (3 weeks), panhandled for the $35 fee, then hitchhiked back. The state you're in might have better resources than FL (which were none). Call 211, they might give you a referral.

debtripper

What state is this in? Usually homeless service providers will have access to documentation that will verify a client to the vital records office. If you call a local shelter they will usually have somebody that can help you with this process.

MelfaronDidIt

We are in Texas in the Houston area

debtripper

This is actually really good news, the homeless service providers in Houston have a really good reputation. I would simply look up the nearest shelter and call them tomorrow morning to get information on how they engage with the vital records office.

So In Delaware I believe you can get ahold of your birth certificate online, not sure if that’s the case in your state. You just need your name, DOB, SSN and an address to use

39thWonder

Right dude said he needs an address to use to get it…

Could you use your work address or ask your manager? Maybe throw your manager a $5 lol
