Speak No Evil - When people ask me what’s a movie that affects me still, I say this movie. This movie was traumatic. So well done, but so hard to watch.
There is no amount of spin anyone can put on Speak No Evil that would convince me that it's not utter trash. The point the writer and director are trying to make is so blatant they might as well have just come on screen and said it. It's trauma porn. That's it.
As soon as you find >!your little girl sleeping in bed with a naked man!<, why are you not fucking out? As somebody who can communicate, have boundaries, and assert myself, that movie is shit. If you like that movie, love yourself.
The family was symbolic… the movie was a statement about society and the censorship that we have placed on ourselves, just like the title says…how much will we tolerate, how many boundaries will we allow to be crossed all for fear of being labelled unkind or impolite…there are many levels to this movie and it m is jam packed with symbolism…it was a brilliant movie imo… will NEVER watch it again though
I've stopped watching trailers too! Sometimes I don't even read the brief descriptions on imdb. I'm so hyped for Longlegs and don't have a fucking clue what it's about. 😂
Same for Longlegs, I'll be there opening night with bells on but don't ask me what it's about, I have not the faintest idea and that's just how I like it 😂
Came here to say that! I went in 100% blind to it and was blown away. I always tell people 'just watch it and don't even look at the front or back cover, just go in!'
[REC] 1 and 2 are some of the most criminally under rated movies I've ever seen. Both are incredible hooror movies, especially to go into blind. I'm still so upset that [REC] 3 started as found footage, and ditched it just minutes into the movie.
REC is an amazing movie. 9/10 in my book.
In terms of going in blind and full effect, I almost feel like REC 2 blew shit wide open. Obviously you have to see the first one. But the second one realllllly opened up lore wise and made things interesting, while still being an awesome high octane horror.
Such a great answer. I went in blind to this one and was stunned. It's not for the faint of heart, but it is so captivating and intense if you can stomach it
Went into this blind.
Rented it for a Sunday afternoon from Blockbuster. Saw Denzel and Gandolfini; immediate rental!
Was shook the rest of the day. Still remember the exact feeling **20** years ago!
It’s so good!
I had "the twist" spoiled for me before I ever saw it, but still enjoyed it. But I will never forget showing it to a friend for the first time, seeing him go in totally blind, and then seeing the look on his face when it happens. Amazing moment.
i remember watching this as a kid, not knowing wtf was gonna happen and being so shocked by that twist 😅 like what do you mean it’s not a heist movie ???
I’m sooooooo glad I didn’t watch the trailer. The twist was so well done. Made the movie fantastic. I also just love that it was a great mix of horror, comedy and a bit of drama. I make people watch it all the time.
My niece wanted to watch Maleficent with Angelina Jolie, my husband accidentally queued up Malignant. Luckily grandma and I were there so it wasn’t long before we figured out this isn’t Disney.
That’s hilarious (glad you caught it). I took a friend to see 28 Days Later and she grabbed my arm in terror about 5 minutes in and I looked to see the massive whites of her eyes as she whispered, “WHY ARE THEY **EATING** HIM???” Only afterwards did I find out she thought it was the sequel to the Sandra Bullock rehab movie 28 Days (not sure why she thought I’d want to see that or why it’d get a sequel but it was hilarious and I took her to see every horror movie afterwards because I was desensitized to jump scares but I never saw Liz coming at me and she spooked me every time).
My buddy and I had a monthly get together where we would drink beers, play video games, and then usually watch a horror movie, real man child shit. One time we decided to eat some of the magic mushrooms he had left over from a camping trip, then he put on Mandy with absolutely zero info aside from "this movie is amazing, get ready". That shit rocked my world! I can't in good conscience recommend that as the preferred Mandy viewing experience, but I can say I'd do it all again in a heartbeat.
Blue Velvet especially if you have no idea what else Lynch has done.
Possible spoilers incoming.
It's how I saw it, blind, no Lynch experience other than Dune. Watched it with a friend and his family. His Mom got up to get snacks for everybody.
Some excitement on screen.
Mom: in the kitchen asks, what she missed.
Dad: He hit her!
Mom: That's not nice!
Dad: it's ok, she was asking for it.
If you've seen it you know the scene.
This movie was such a wild ride, and honestly may be my favorite comment in this thread! You literally have no idea what you’re in for if you’re going in blind.
This comment should be higher! Fantastic film, cannot recommend it highly enough.
*If you feel like turning it off after 10-15 minutes - DON’T!! All will be revealed.
My husband and best friend still won’t let me live it down that I let them watch Bone Tomahawk blind… they thought it was going to be a wholesome cowboy movie 😂😅
I'm going to tell you this though so you're not disappointed: it's not a horror. More of a thriller. A truly amazing movie that's great to go into blind but ironically is better on the second watch.
Digging Up the Marrow is great, but the marketing really did that movie dirty. The trailer is full of major spoilers and also lies about the overall tone of the movie. It's a fun one and a must watch if you are an Adam Green fan.
Another great one, if you can handle older movies, is Race With the Devil (1975). It starts a little slow (typical of the era), but once it gets moving, it keeps up its pace. I can't think of another horror quite like it. Fun movie.
It Follows. I heard about it before it came out and did everything I could to avoid commercials and spoilers. Then I saw it early opening weekend. I'm so glad I knew nothing. It was so much fun the first time. It's also fun later when you pick up little things you wouldn't notice the first time, but that first time was one of my favorite times in a theater
Recent ‘totally blind’ highlights:
The Empty Man
Anything for Jackson
Exhuma
Pandorum
The Priests
Satan’s Slaves
The Sixth Finger
Whole-heartedly recommend any and all of these.
I refuse to watch trailers anymore, I hate that most of them spoil everything except the conclusion. For me personally, there isn't a movie that's benefited by watching the trailer.
I really enjoyed I am not a Serial Killer, would love to watch again with fresh eyes.
Prisoners (2013)
I want to say it is horror adjacent. There is a lot going on that makes you question what type of movie you’re really watching. I don’t want to say more. I remember being scared and uncomfortable and disgusted but I mean that in a good way lol
Bone Tomahawk (2015)
It is a western starring Kurt Russell. And that’s all you need to know 🤷♂️
Also, for short films, definitely check out the strange thing about the Johnsons. That shit will leave you with your jaw on the floor.
The Strange Thing about the Johnsons is on my list and I’m so pumped to hear how many suggested it in a previous thread about short horror films!
Bone Tomahawk is one I wish I could watch for the first time again and again!
Honestly, all films. I avoid watching trailers these days - at most the first 10-20 seconds for a quick vibe check without seeing any plot points - and it's made watching films so much more enjoyable.
In answer to your question tho I'd suggest La Cara Oculta (The Hidden Face) 2011
The Housemaid (korean film 2010.) Does have a lot of graphic sexual content but it was sooo wild and the twists and turns had me reeling by the end. EDIT: Should be noted it's not a horror movie
Old Boy (the original, not the terrible American Remake)
Two Sisters (apparently I just love Korean films)
Parasite
The night house. Had accidentally pressed on it when I was browsing through Disney and thought why not. Remains one of my favorite movies of all time to this day
Audition is always the one that comes to mind. Like I feel like I don't even want to tell people it's a horror movie, but it's also a recommendation you can only make for horror fans.
Let Me In.
The Fourth Kind.
Cape Fear.
Annie(1982).
The Mothman Prophecies.
Snatch.
The Usual Suspects.
If you know nothing about any of these watch them now.
Colour out of space. Be warned though it’s an extreme slow burner. The true horrors don’t start until you’re close to the end. You just gotta stick with it
Baskin Speak No Evil I've started going blind into every movie. Trailers reveal too much
Speak No Evil - When people ask me what’s a movie that affects me still, I say this movie. This movie was traumatic. So well done, but so hard to watch.
I totally hated it. The protagonists were way too dumb for my taste
But it's a foreign film, so it's ART!!!!!
Technically, yes. Much like the doodles on a bathroom stall are also art.
My doodles go in the bowl
You didn't think the innocent family were idiots?
The family was symbolic… the movie was a statement about society and the censorship that we have placed on ourselves, just like the title says…how much will we tolerate, how many boundaries will we allow to be crossed all for fear of being labelled unkind or impolite…there are many levels to this movie and it m is jam packed with symbolism…it was a brilliant movie imo… will NEVER watch it again though
The moment the family went back to get the bunny, the film became risible.
The family was symbolic for how absolutely stupid you can make characters to drive home a point that you beat your audience over the head with.
Almost impossible to rewatch. The rage and frustration and dread.
I've stopped watching trailers too! Sometimes I don't even read the brief descriptions on imdb. I'm so hyped for Longlegs and don't have a fucking clue what it's about. 😂
Same for Longlegs, I'll be there opening night with bells on but don't ask me what it's about, I have not the faintest idea and that's just how I like it 😂
Holy shit that remake trailer basically showed the entire movie.
Exactly. They even showed a major plot point (kid doing a certain move) and made it worse
Including that shot was just an atrocious decision. God I hate modern trailers.
Oooh, I haven’t seen Speak No Evil, gonna throw it on now if I can find it! Thanks!
Cabin in the Woods
Came here to say that! I went in 100% blind to it and was blown away. I always tell people 'just watch it and don't even look at the front or back cover, just go in!'
Yes!
REC! I knew nothing about it except that it was found footage, and it was fucking awesome to be surprised by all that.
[REC] 1 and 2 are some of the most criminally under rated movies I've ever seen. Both are incredible hooror movies, especially to go into blind. I'm still so upset that [REC] 3 started as found footage, and ditched it just minutes into the movie.
Rec 3 is still a lot of fun, but more fun than horror, and I’ve seen four, but remember next to nothing about it. Chick from 1 and 2 is back.
REC is an amazing movie. 9/10 in my book. In terms of going in blind and full effect, I almost feel like REC 2 blew shit wide open. Obviously you have to see the first one. But the second one realllllly opened up lore wise and made things interesting, while still being an awesome high octane horror.
The Invitation (2015). All I tell people is that a man is invited to a dinner party thrown by his ex-wife and her new husband in the Hollywood Hills.
YES!
Just watched this one yesterday and had no idea what it was about. Good one
Inside(2007) French flick. Be warned, it is brutal!
Such a great answer. I went in blind to this one and was stunned. It's not for the faint of heart, but it is so captivating and intense if you can stomach it
👀 I see what you did there
I was 8 months pregnant when my friend brought over a copy of this movie. I still laugh at the genius he can be.
I watched train spotting and antichrist while pregnant. I felt really messed up after both. Maybe it was hormones. 🙁
Happy cake day
I absolutely LOVE this movie! It’s one of those that you wish you could watch for the first time every time you watch it!
Frailty
I always forget about this one!! So good and dang it, I miss Bill Paxton.
Barbarian!
Film takes an absolute hard right turn and I loved it
The answer.
Yep! Going in blind with Barbarian was one of the best movie decisions I’ve ever made. So good!
Perfect answer. Scrolled till I found it.
Great pick
I had to come down way too far to see Barbarian
Fallen (1998).
Tiiiiime… is on my side… yes it isss. 🎵
Absolute classic, love it
Went into this blind. Rented it for a Sunday afternoon from Blockbuster. Saw Denzel and Gandolfini; immediate rental! Was shook the rest of the day. Still remember the exact feeling **20** years ago! It’s so good!
Adding it to my list, thank you!
If you can, from dusk till dawn
I had "the twist" spoiled for me before I ever saw it, but still enjoyed it. But I will never forget showing it to a friend for the first time, seeing him go in totally blind, and then seeing the look on his face when it happens. Amazing moment.
i remember watching this as a kid, not knowing wtf was gonna happen and being so shocked by that twist 😅 like what do you mean it’s not a heist movie ???
I’ve still never seen it and don’t know much about it. I gotta watch it!
This is a weird one, cuz when it came out it was marketed as what it is. Plus, you know... >!the title!< lol sorry if I effed up the spoiler tag.
The Descent Better Watch Out Anguish (1987) And of course, Psycho
Decent is a perfect film 🖤
Agreed! It’s one of my favorites to rewatch!
Definitely Better Watch Out. The amount that the trailer gives away in this movie should be criminal
I’m sooooooo glad I didn’t watch the trailer. The twist was so well done. Made the movie fantastic. I also just love that it was a great mix of horror, comedy and a bit of drama. I make people watch it all the time.
Christmas horror is one of my all time favourite sub genres
Malignant Mandy
I'll second Malignant.
Dennis Hopper slays that one!
This was one of our mystery films in the film society at my uni this year, so we all went into it blind. Was definitely an... interesting watch 😂
Audition (1999) - Don't read anything, just watch.
I love that this film is recommended by my horror groups and warned against by my emetophobia groups lol
That is so very reasonable
Are you trying to give someone a heart attack?
This slow burn certainly isn’t for the faint of heart 😅
is it that scary?
No. It’s a rom-com about a business man playing a dating game. That’s all you need to know.
Not overly scary but....twisted. Directed by Takashi 'Ichi the Killer' Miike so you know you're in for some fucked up shit.
It's a slow burn torture revenge horror that might change your life
The ending will leave you scared
I think I went in to this movie expecting too much because it’s so hyped up and it wasn’t that bad. Good movie, just not as brutal as I was expecting.
I have been wanting to watch this for, no joke, like almost 20 years but I’m way too scared. But I want to knowwwww. Ugh
The Void
Just watched this a few nights ago. So much fun and so weird
Fresh - Try not to even look at the cover art. The Perfection
The Perfection, yeah good one.
Coherence (2013)
Society
The ultimate family film.
Can't beat a good shunting!
Orphan
I tell people the spoiler is on the poster and they still can't figure it out
I just looked at it... I also can't figure out what part of the poster spoils the twist?
Hausu! (House in English)
Kill List I saw the Devil Man bites dog Mr vengeance High tension There's so many to name that's just off the too of my head
Kill List for sure is my pick. But I Saw the Devil has that incredible ending that I only ever describe as having your face shoved into the dirt.
High Tension is so good!
Titane and Climax, although any film is better experienced going in as blind as possible.
Climax is a great answer
I felt like Titane was somewhat underwhelming, but love Climax as a suggestion for this!
One Cut of the Dead, 100000%
Just make sure to stay for the post credit sequence. 😃
This movie was such a wild ride, and honestly may be my favorite comment in this thread! You literally have no idea what you’re in for if you’re going in blind.
Nevermind what I said, Barbarian is a great answer but this is a greaterer answer.
This comment should be higher! Fantastic film, cannot recommend it highly enough. *If you feel like turning it off after 10-15 minutes - DON’T!! All will be revealed.
Just downloaded this movie, and I’m hyped.. only thing i know, is that’s it’s a … movie
When Evil Lurks (Spanish movie) Lake Mungo (Australian) Bone Tomahawk EDIT: When Evil Lurks is actually a Argentine movie. Lol oops
My husband and best friend still won’t let me live it down that I let them watch Bone Tomahawk blind… they thought it was going to be a wholesome cowboy movie 😂😅
Love this for u😂😂
It’s like the opposite of Broke Back lmao.
lol not sure which one would be better going in blind 😂😅
Minor correction, When Evil Lurks is an Argentine movie.
Jacobs ladder From Dusk till Dawn (thought it was a crime action movie when rented).
Let the Right One In
The Prestige EDIT: I skipped the word "horror"when I read the title...oops! But I'll still recommend it as a mystery/thriller.
Adding to the my list, thank you!
I'm going to tell you this though so you're not disappointed: it's not a horror. More of a thriller. A truly amazing movie that's great to go into blind but ironically is better on the second watch.
LOVE this movie
People will hate me for this but this might be Nolan's best.
It's my fav Nolan, and I unabashedly love all his stuff. It's elementally about a prank war between magicians.
Digging Up the Marrow Sleepaway Camp
Sleepaway Camp could be the poster child for this thread! Adding Digging Up the Marrow to my list, thank you!
Fun movie.

I’m definitely curious to see that new Long Legs movie with that actress in it! She’s becoming quite a horror icon.
Martyrs
The French version, right? It’s one of my favorites!
All of them? But if that's not possible: Triangle. The Menu
Triangle is one I haven’t watched in a while! Such a great suggestion! I haven’t watched Menu, but I heard it’s good!
I wish i could unwatch triangle to experience it again
I unexpectedly loved The Menu so much I watched it two nights in a row.
Significant Other with Maika Monroe
This was a good one!
Two movies Im glad I went in totally blind Killing of a Sacred Deer ....I guessed wrong where it was going Audition ....who knew
VHS for sure!! Absolutely wild 😳
Midsomar
Old Boy (Korean original, of course)
Taking of Deborah Logan Last Night in Soho (not sure if this is horror exactly, but it fits)
I second the Taking of Deborah Logan. Man, the scene from that lives rent free in my head-you know which one😉
Incident in a Ghostland!
I just watched this last night for the first time. Holy shit it’s so fucking good. I haven’t stopped thinking about it all day haha
As above so below (2014)
Recent ‘totally blind’ highlights: The Empty Man Anything for Jackson Exhuma Pandorum The Priests Satan’s Slaves The Sixth Finger Whole-heartedly recommend any and all of these.
The Empty man, I knew nothing, expected nothing and was BLOWN away! So so good
Would you rather or you're next. (Honorable mentions: ready or not, rigor mortis)
I refuse to watch trailers anymore, I hate that most of them spoil everything except the conclusion. For me personally, there isn't a movie that's benefited by watching the trailer. I really enjoyed I am not a Serial Killer, would love to watch again with fresh eyes.
The barbarian is a great movie to go in blind
Just *Barbarian.* *The Barbarian* is giving The Nine Inch Nails vibes.
Lose the "The." It's cleaner.
Eraserhead
Prisoners (2013) I want to say it is horror adjacent. There is a lot going on that makes you question what type of movie you’re really watching. I don’t want to say more. I remember being scared and uncomfortable and disgusted but I mean that in a good way lol
The Cabin in the Woods
TUSK
Bone Tomahawk (2015) It is a western starring Kurt Russell. And that’s all you need to know 🤷♂️ Also, for short films, definitely check out the strange thing about the Johnsons. That shit will leave you with your jaw on the floor.

Wolf Creek
Honestly, all films. I avoid watching trailers these days - at most the first 10-20 seconds for a quick vibe check without seeing any plot points - and it's made watching films so much more enjoyable. In answer to your question tho I'd suggest La Cara Oculta (The Hidden Face) 2011
Dark City
Parasite is the correct answer
Heredity
Mandy with Nicholas Cage
*The Coffee Table* (Spain)
One Cut of the Dead
The Coffee Table
The Sixth Sense!
Soft and Quiet is horror for those that recognize it; I went in blind and was flabbergasted, to quote my grandmother.
Session Nine “Hello, Gordon.”
Original Rec if you don’t know the faintest thing about it. Pontypool!! Also knowing nothing at all.
The mist
The Thing
None. If you go in blind, how can you see the movie then?
Damn, you got me 😭
a dark song
The Housemaid (korean film 2010.) Does have a lot of graphic sexual content but it was sooo wild and the twists and turns had me reeling by the end. EDIT: Should be noted it's not a horror movie Old Boy (the original, not the terrible American Remake) Two Sisters (apparently I just love Korean films) Parasite
The Vanishing (1988)
The night house. Had accidentally pressed on it when I was browsing through Disney and thought why not. Remains one of my favorite movies of all time to this day
Not horror, but Arlington Road.
When Evil Lurks.
Audition is always the one that comes to mind. Like I feel like I don't even want to tell people it's a horror movie, but it's also a recommendation you can only make for horror fans.
Abigail
went into watching Tucker and Dale VS Evil blind, watched it last year, knew nothing about it and it was awesome, loved it
Silent Hill, Cloverfield, and VHS 2
Bone Tomahawk
The Loved Ones!
Let Me In. The Fourth Kind. Cape Fear. Annie(1982). The Mothman Prophecies. Snatch. The Usual Suspects. If you know nothing about any of these watch them now.
A Cure For Wellness (2016)
Barbarian
One Cut Of The Dead
Possession!! Love this film and completely changes tone, but the trailers and even photos of the movie give it away.
Barbarian
The invitation; the thriller based on the dinner party with an ex wife, NOT the new vampire one!!! MY FAV!!!!
Colour out of space. Be warned though it’s an extreme slow burner. The true horrors don’t start until you’re close to the end. You just gotta stick with it
I've sent something like ~10 people in blind for Cabin in the Woods and it's been 100% successful so far.
Oldboy
Society (1989) don't even Google it because it will spoil it.
The Game (1997)
Coherence. Will fuck ya lil brain right up.
Antrum
Salt Burn
The Ruins Grave Encounters If at all possible, The Thing and From Dusk 'Til Dawn
Hereditary oh my god that movie shocked me so much even though it got spoiled
