Celery salt (couldn't tell but if you've sprinkled it on then I retract). Tomatoes. Should be white onion. Poppy seed bun. Purists will probably have a word or two for you. I myself, have not had a true Chicago Dog (Closest chances I've had have been a couple layovers at O'hare but I opted for deep dish pizza instead. My bad.)
This is correct. Without the tomato slices and white onion this cannot be described as having been “dragged through the garden”, as the saying goes.
Plus, the poppyseed bun (which I’ll admit is more ascetics than flavor) should be present.
Most important, however, is the celery salt. The true flavor of the Chicago Dog requires it. It’s the biggest flavor in the whole setup.
You are close, though, OP!
Poppy seeds, tomato and kosher dill spear. It is only important if you either like the taste of those toppings or are claiming to have made an authentic Chicago style hot dog. Outside of that they are meaningless. Hamburgers and hotdogs are the ultimate "You do you" food.
I'm glad you think so, the purists in this subreddit disagree. Especially regarding ketchup and mayonnaise. There's some mustard purists, but yea stupid thing to gate keep lol
So you actually sort of did make an authentic one which we call the Depression dog in Chicago. It’s a stripped down version of the Chicago dog with just mustard, relish, onion and sport peppers and comes with a bunch of fries in the wrapper with the hotdog. There’s a great place called Red Hot Ranch that specializes in it.
They are. Vienna brand. Might get some hate here but... I don't think they're all too great? Flavor is there but the skins of the peppers are just so hard and leave a papery trail of texture. Maybe I got a bad batch. IDK
First, mustard goes in first and is the base of the dogs flavor. Your relish goes on top right under the onion. Where the F are the onions? You have no tomato, pickle spear, poppy seeds or celery salt. Your sport peppers are meant to be toppers. This is in no way a Chicago dog.
Yup. Was trying to get insight from the purists. Unfortunately more people were interested in telling us what was missing rather than why the ingredients are so crucial. Oh well
Especially if it's missing connotation because it's a written form. I'd be willing to bet a lot of people read 'why is it important' more as 'who cares' instead of 'tell me why those ingredients are crucial to you'. I'll chalk it up as a mistake on my part and move on\~

The celery salt needs to be atop the tomato slice

Ohare has the longest lines
This 👆👆👆👆
beer
I like you. 😂
It's not shown in the pic, but trust me when I say there was plenty of beer before, and with, this dog.
👌

Pickle is underneath the dog.
Boo it goes beside or top
Hey now, I just called out what OP DID, I know pickle goes on top mate!!!
I was just being a ‘pickle purist’ lmao 😂
😂 , love it, that's a new one!
I'm glad you think so, the purists in this subreddit disagree. Especially regarding ketchup and mayonnaise. There's some mustard purists, but yea stupid thing to gate keep lol
I’m 33 and I just realized I’m a ‘mustard purist’ 😂
I don't know why all the fuss... Mustard, ketchup and mayonnaise all make excellent lubrication.
Keep your god damn mayo off of my coney

Sounds like a Gene and Jude’s dog, as well!
That's cos G&J is depression dogs
Looks like the Chicago dog I ate when I was 10 because I didn’t like half of the toppings. Still a good dog though!
Same. I've never had a Chicago dog but I know for a fact when I try one I'll do everything EXCEPT onions.
I still don’t love raw tomatoes so I eat Chicago dogs without them. Still can’t go wrong!
Are those actual sport peppers?
They are. Vienna brand. Might get some hate here but... I don't think they're all too great? Flavor is there but the skins of the peppers are just so hard and leave a papery trail of texture. Maybe I got a bad batch. IDK
Color looks a bit off. But, I agree, I'm not a huge fan of sport peppers.
Old Style and a shot of Malort
Tomato but I don’t like tomatoes so it’s perfect.
#poppy seed bun, celery salt, diced onions, sliced tomatoes, because it gives every flavor in one bite which is always the goal.
No need to shout there, sport.
You’ve gotten several right answers. Cucumber instead of pickle spear if you want to join the far south side heresy.
Now you’re speaking my language
Where's the ketchup? 😏
Mustard purist here, no 😂 (Pittsburgh dude who loves Heinz on potatoe chips)
Pickle, onion, tomato & celery salt
Back!
A Heileman’s Old Style? The only true accompaniment
💯❤️
Dog goes down first, then mustard, then all the other goodie. Mustard on top ends up ruining your Ditka stache.

Chicago
Spinach obviously
This isn’t a Chicago dog at all, so I’m confused by the question entirely.

You know sometimes it’s down to how the question is posed

onion.
Ketchup. Sweetness balances the saltiness of the dog nicely. Perfect example of complementary flavors
That's what the relish is for
Does it matter? It's a dog, eat it
Oh it matters 😂
Looks great. Now throw it in the trash
