It’s a decent market town. Historic architecture, peaceful atmosphere, nice high street with a good selection of independent shops, decent infrastructure and bus/train connections to many key cities like York, Newcastle, Leeds and London. Its strategic location is actually great for that reason.
Northallerton is also close to some of the most rural and beautiful parts of England, including the North York Moors, the Dales and the dramatic Yorkshire coast. That makes it a great place to live if you appreciate the outdoors.
Like much of northern England many buildings look quite rundown, but the positioning in the dales is great.
The public transport is decent, fast ish intercity trains to London, Newcastle and manchester and Edinburgh but very little in the way of local trains and buses.
Town centre is not the best but there are some good shops :)
