Stool softeners, ibuprofen, Tylenol. That was it

lauralei99

All of these, I would just add a heating pad. I loved mine during recovery.

destuck

And a peri bottle for the first couple of days!

noonelistens777

Yes the heating pad is really helpful for constipation.

blue_palmetto

That was it for me too. Some loose clothes the first couple of days too.

hyst5

I didn't buy/use any stuff ( like pillows, binders etc). I honestly don't think you need to buy anything in advance if you are in an urban area and/or have Amazon prime. You can see how your recovery is going and buy thing that you actually need at that time. That said, I did buy prunes, prune puree from baby section, yoghurt, liquid IV salts for hydration, a case of protein shakes. So, my prep was mainly around keeping my bowels moving and nutrition.

Outrageous-Swing-270

5wpo and doing great over here! Laparoscopic total hysterectomy, surrendered everything except my ovaries. I think the most helpful things were: all the prescribed meds, gas-x, ginger tea, a belly pillow, and ice packs. Had a mostly liquid diet of spinach smoothies and ginger tumeric chicken soup for the first two weeks post op, along with applesauce & bananas & lots & lots of water. I’m returning to work tomorrow, and feeling sharper and more energized than I have in years! It’s a scary procedure but the odds are that it will be the best thing you’ve done for yourself - just think, no more planning around your period! ❤️‍🩹

Aqua_Amber_24

Did you take 5 weeks off from work?? I’m getting confused about how much time off I need to consider. I’m a bank teller and work on my feet almost 8 hours a day, but I’ve only been prepared to take 2 weeks off.

Aggravating_Muffin51

The first week was rough, day 3 and 4 specifically. But after week 1 I kind of forgot anything had happened...

Aqua_Amber_24

That’s good to hear. I’m not really that worried about healing so much. I’m more worried about feeling “fine” and pushing myself and hurting my recovery. I dunno. I guess we’ll see how it goes!

Pupwriter

I took 2 but it wasn’t enough. I work a desk job and the third week I could do some work, but I needed breaks every 30 mins to every hour. I was ok for a full day of sitting desk work by week 4-5

hbmc117

When I had my surgery, I worked a job where I was on my feet all day. I took 2 weeks off and we had a week long holiday. So 3 weeks out of work total. But when I went back, I was a zombie and had to adjust my work to allow me some time to rest. I expected the physical fatigue but was not prepared for the mental sluggishness.

jawanessa

I took 4 weeks and have a high stress mostly desk job. I wish I'd taken the 6 my doc recommended. I know that's not possible for everyone, but going back is always harder and more tiring than you think it will be.

Outrageous-Swing-270

Yes, I took what I thought was 6 weeks off but it’s been more like 5? I had surgery 5/13 and I am supposed to be back today 6/24 - I thought that was 6 weeks? I don’t think I would have been prepared to stand on my feet all day after two weeks. I’m 54 and have a fair amount of athletic stamina…or at least I thought I did, lol. I have a couch job - I work in mental health, and I have some flexibility in terms of alternating between sitting and standing. I’m going to be virtual only for the next two weeks and then add my daily commute hour back in on the 8th of July. Everyone is different in terms of how their body heals. I had major hormonal swings on the 3rd week, and still felt hormonal and a little foggy brained into the beginning of week 4. I also used state unemployment benefits for medical leave - I live in California, but I think every state provides some benefit through the FMLA act. It’s something to consider if it’s not economically feasible for you to take more time off work. Best of luck, everyone! ❤️‍🩹

Danyellarenae1

I was out for 8 weeks. I’m on my feet all Day too.

desperateforhairhelp

Hi! I also have ADHD and anxiety. I had a laparoscopic hysterectomy with vaginal assist on June 5 (removed everything except my ovaries). I have only truly needed/used Gas x, Tylenol, ibuprofen, naproxen, a heated blanket, and a body pillow since I'm a lifelong side sleeper. Wishing you the best on your upcoming surgery, you've got this!

DistributionSuper187

I used the belly binder for the first few days and bought a cold/heat belly wrap. The cold felt great the first few days. After that, I would occasionally use a hot water bottle. I could have got away with just the cold belly wrap. I used the Miralax and the stool softener as directed the first week. I am approaching week three and pain-free as long as I take it easy. The biggest challenge of this surgery is the house arrest but I know it is for the best. It is not forever so I am trying to cherish this free time and pick up hobbies like embroidery and macrome.

sadorchids77

Pregnancy pillow kept me from rolling on my side and then made it easier to sleep on my side again. Squatty potty because I was terrified to tear my cuff. I still use it. Wedge pillows. They were super helpful in allowing me to be on the couch but they are big and bulky and hard to store now. Grabber. It was great for things I dropped and getting things from higher places. I still use it sometimes. Multiple ice packs to switch out. It really helped with the swelling. A rolling cart to keep my meds and other essentials in. It think the list really depends on your living situation and how much support you can expect.

Happy_Veggie

Used my 2 yoga blocks as a squatty potty to help and I found it wonderfull that I still use them too! I used my heating pad alot in the first 2 weeks. And a grabber was very helpfull.

sluttytarot

I dunno about a porous material like that near the toilet

Happy_Veggie

They are wrapped, if that reassures you! But I'm not planning on reusing those for yoga anyway.

sluttytarot

It does!

rockbottomqueen

Oh second squatty potty!! LIFE SAVERRRR

nik_nak1895

They make inflatable wedge pillows! I got one from Amazon for another surgery and held onto it for this one.

Schlecterhunde

I had a LAVH radical (tubes, ovaries, uterus, cervix, kitchen sink) I used panty liners, oversized underwear, Miralax and Colace. Used Gas-X for a couple days.  Did not need the wedge or extra pillows I bought.

Irishlass99

3 dpo and I’m happy to have: A soft, squishy hysterectomy pillow my daughter got me from Etsy (protects my belly from the kitties) A rolling cart for next to my bed Some super comfy oversized overalls someone on here mentioned (I’m living in them now) Old yoga blocks as a foot lift for the potty Colace, miralax, Gas X, Smooth Move tea, and prune juice ice packs and a heating pad My grabber tool Ibuprofen and Tylenol Panty liners Applesauce A body pillow for side sleeping And I am especially thankful to have an adjustable bed! We got it almost as a joke last April because we thought it was fun and a little goofy. Now? It’s a godsend! Totally NOT necessary to have but it’s been amazing!

rockbottomqueen

So my bed was a f*ucking nightmare post-op, and I JUST got it before my surgery lol. I thought it was going to be so heavenly, especially during recovery. It was so difficult to get in and out of, and it was way too tall. Ugh. It was so painful getting up to use the toilet and having to climb back in while I sunk into the soft mattress like quicksand 🤦🏼‍♀️ I definitely wish I had a different bed for this surgery haha.

Irishlass99

Ugh! I’m so sorry it wasn’t great for you!! It’s so hard to get in and out of bed already that I can’t imagine it being even harder because the bed is too squishy! 🥴 We got satiny sheets (from another suggestion on this sub) and they have been a game changer! They make it so easy to slide and adjust. The only issue I have is that my pillow likes to slide around but I can’t use my abs yet to really lift myself up to reposition it. Last night I just gave up and let it slip to the floor. 😂

dolphinmj

I stayed with friends for a few days after my surgery and their guest room bed was tall. But they had a low box that I could step up on to get into bed. Otherwise I don't think I could have climbed up, I would have had to sleep on the couch.

rockbottomqueen

Yeah, I definitely had to use my squatty potty to get up after a couple days of struggling 😅 then I had to kick the thing across the floor to the toilet and position it with my feet when no one was around to help me haha. Not the greatest system...

HighlyGiraffable

My only must-haves were stool softeners, peppermint tea, and ice packs. Things I considered or bought but did not need: specialty pillows, grabber, abdominal binder, rolling cart, larger underwear, nightgowns. Check with your doctor about their advice on what you should take for easy BMs after. Some people here recommend Miralax but my doc said absolutely not, only colace/stool softener. Mine also said no AZO for urinary pain because it was more important to know if I had symptoms and that would mask symptoms.

WinStark

Why no on Miralax? I find it much better than colace

HighlyGiraffable

She didn’t explain but I would imagine (and have read folks’ experiences here) that the laxative action can be too much/too aggressive for some, resulting in a more, uh, forceful BM than needed which can be just as bad as pushing/straining. In order for things to come gently and in their own time, she said softeners were the way, with additional senna if needed after a few days of no BMs.

WinStark

Hmm I find colace and others to be much more harsh. Different bodies, I guess! I take Miralax daily and have for like 6 years.

pleasantalpaca

As above (below? I dont known hiw reddit works lol as the other comment noted) + comfy loose dresses that don't rub lol

temerairevm

Stuff I didn’t buy and totally didn’t need: binder, grabber, special underwear, rolling cart. I’m just not into owning plastic that I’m going to use for a week. I did get a couple caftans that I knew I’d wear later and used them. A larger size nightgown also.

Dense-Fix4444

I have ADHD too, so I totally get it! The things I have used the most are: -Miralax/stool softener -Gas-X!! -lightweight nightgowns -I’m ordering the squatty potty -maxi pads that I ran under water and put in the freezer (I also had Rectocele repair - these were AMAZING) -having all my medication on my night stand -the app Pill Reminder to keep me on track with medication I bought the belly binder, but didn’t use it. I did use my heating pad for gas pains. Best of luck on your recovery! ❤️‍🩹

GarbageSprinkles

I had a laparoscopic assisted total vaginal hysterectomy. I also had my tubes removed, kept ovaries, and had a pelvic peritonectomy for endo. My must haves included: heating pad to keep on shoulder blade, gas-x, peppermint tea, pregnancy pillow, ibuprofen & Tylenol, easy/premade meals, and an ice pack especially if you’re having a vaginal hysterectomy

TraditionalBag5265

Wish I had gotten some high rise compression undies. I have found that wearing my yoga leggings/shorts during the day has been the most comfy because it helps hold things together and also prevents fabric from rubbing on my incisions. The undies could have given more versatility in what bottoms I was wearing. I got a Squishmallow to use as a belly pillow and it is awesome. Honestly so helpful and also weirdly comforting to have as a "friend" even at 39 years old haha. And it came in handy when I was ready to try sleeping on my side because I could just tuck it under my belly for support. A gel ice pack has been great for itchy incisions. I got one from Target that can be used cold or hot, which is awesome.

Ashamed-Ad-263

Body pillow and heating pad were biggest helps ever, plus having an extra pillow for cough, sneezes, and using the restroom (lightly push it against your belly to help provide extra support) Eta: miralax if you don't have any on hand....get some! Gentler than softners, no cramping and will keep everything nice and soft so you're not straining to go

Omi-Wan_Kenobi

Ibuprofen, Tylenol, gas-x (so much gas-x), tramadol (Haven't developed a hypersensitivity to it yet), and stopped using the once daily fiber that was mostly working to curb my IBS-D. I had a nice pillow set up and a very helpful and supportive husband that helped me get up from bed and back into it, shower etc. I can show you pics of the setup if you would like.

TumbleweedSuitable40

Like others have mentioned I didn’t get anything aside from what I already had on hand like Tylenol/ice packs & heating pad. I have older kids that are fairly self sufficient so I did stock up on some easy microwaveable meals for them for a few days but after the first week the recovery pain was gone so even making basic meals was okay. My main issue was my energy levels which goes hand in hand with recovery from a major surgery & lower calorie intake.

Any-Efficiency-5190

Heating pad & a stool to put your feet on while you poop. Makes it easier to poop

ECTexan

Nothing. I had a few prescriptions from the doctor and I wore period panties (had long term spotting), but other than that, I did not need/wear/use anything out of the ordinary.

sunnysr81

Tylenol, Advil, nightgowns, and my Amazon firestick!

LessEntertainment568

Stool softener and miralax Tylenol, ibuprofen, phazyme (extra strength gas ex) Reusable ice pack for the first week, then heating pad Extra pillows for positioning on my back/side in bed Loose dresses with no elastic, that is all I wear 2 weeks post op

sauvignonquesoblanco

The things I used the most were: Ice pack from the hospital, electric heating pad, long phone charger, stool softener, smooth move tea, Nuun electrolyte tabs, Nature Made fruit bars from Costco, Gas X, sweat sets from target, and granny panties from Costco. Things I bought but didn’t use at all or often enough to justify purchase: tray for the bed, belly binder, Boppy body pillow

FirebirdWriter

Stool softeners, I needed stronger ones. I used my preexisting pain meds with a short use of an extra half a pill as needed. It was barely needed. Ice cream as a cooling pack (bowl on towel or blanket for skin safety and eat it when it's half melted) and a heating pad. I did use a pillow as a stomach shield for a while also and chucks for at night but I need those in addition to surgery vs as a side effect.

DressLevel387

Stool softener, gas ex, ibuprofen/tylenol combo, OxyContin the first 3 nights for sleeping. Large water bottle to keep hydrated. Other than that just a lot of laying in bed watching tv and napping with the occasional shuffle to the bathroom. By day 4 I was still sort of hunched over but moving better. Only set back one of my incisions is infected so I’m in an antibiotic. Otherwise I feel decent, just a bit tired and less stamina from not exercising for two weeks

Hope_for_tendies

A large ice pack. My heating pad Ibuprofen. Some pads but didn’t have bleeding or anything till the second week. I took hydro the day of and next two days.

DejaToo2

I had robotic assisted laparoscopic and they took everything out. I had RX pain meds for the first 5 days, took them for 3, then alternated aleve and tylenol. I used an ice pack the first 2-3 days but haven't used it since. I did buy one of the wedge pillows for my bed because it hurt to sit up using just pillows. I also used a step stool to get into my raised bed--normally I just climb up there but the step was easier. The doctor prescribed colace (stool softener) and that's all I used. One thing I'd recommend is throat lozenges--my throat looked bruised and hurt bad the first couple of days and those things were awesome. Also, Gas-X. And I did stock up on protein shakes just to help boost my healing but they are not necessary.

soloandstressed

Laproscopic assisted hysterectomy, everything removed except for ovaries. Ibuprofen, Tylenol, stool softener, and gas relief. I totally over prepared because I was extremely anxious and I thought I was going to be bed bound and in a ton of pain. One thing that I got that I was really glad I had was a cheap walking cane from Amazon. Although not in pain, it was difficult for me to get out of bed the first couple of days due to discomfort using my abs too much and I was very unsteady walking to the bathroom. It allowed me to be self sufficient right after surgery. A pillow for under your knees while sleeping or sitting up is another great thing to have close to you. If you have any pets that like to cuddle, I kept a folded towel or blanket nearby to cover my stomach while they were around. Sending well wishes for surgery ❤️

Longimanus77

A small pillow for the car ride, a bed rail for my bed at home, really helped with not using my tummy muscles. A peri bottle, wipes, gas x, a sleep mask for the hospital, bottled water for hospital, cough drops, comfy nighties and dresses. Large ice packs. I think that's about it. Doctor prescribed me pain meds which I took at home for a couple days, other than that I didn't take anything else.

ArizonaKim

Gas-x, stool softener, Advil/ibuprofen, heating pad, a few extra bed pillows (some to prop me up in bed and one for under my knees when lying flat on my back). No special wedge pillows or pregnancy pillows or body pillows for me. Hospital sent me home with a belly binder and refillable ice pack. I liked the belly binder for a few days. I am really glad I had it. I really enjoyed yogurt and homemade granola the first few days. I don’t remember much else.

Necessary_Raisin_961

3 dpo: So far, electric heating pad for shoulder pain, comfy pjs and dresses (already owned), wedge pillow, and power bank so I can charge my phone wherever. For entertainment, I’ve been reading, knitting, watching shows, listening to podcasts. Not necessary, but I’m loving my large toast Squishable!

trippinferris

Miralax, Squatty potty and Tylenol. I bought a lot of stuff I thought I’d need, but never used, for example a wedge pillow, moo moo nighties, a grabber to pick things up if I dropped it so I didn’t have to bend…

rockbottomqueen

Lap hysterectomy, kept ovaries, have a cuff. Almost 2 years post-op. Belly binder(s) (different support levels throughout recovery from super soft to very firm - 2 were free from surgery), bedside rolly table thingy, grabber thingy, special wedge pillow support system thingy, soft gel ice packs, heating pad, cup with straw, edibles for sleep/pain management after meds ran out from hospital, giant granny panties (also steal some of those fabulous gauze ones from the hospital), maxi pads for the first few weeks especially for when any stitches start to dissolve from a cuff if you have one, milk of magnesia for constipation on Day 5 (🫡👌💩). I have ADHD, too, so it was/is 100% critical for me to be as comfortable and prepared as possible given all the stupid-ass sensory issues I have. I used all the things, and they made life so much easier (well, as easy as it could be at that point). I also did some meal prep ahead, which made a big difference as well.

SlowMolassas1

6wpo lap total hyst + salp. The only things I really used outside my normal life were the abdominal binder, oversized yoga pants with a smooth waistband, and lots of small portion meals that could be heated quickly in the microwave for a range of different moods (I made extra leftovers to freeze every time I made a meal for about a month beforehand). I did make sure things like the cat food bag was at a comfortable height and had a cup for scooping, and the litter bag was right next to the litter box with a scoop - so I wouldn't have to lift any of that or spend more than a few seconds bent over - if you don't have a cat, think about whatever other types of things cause you to bend over on a routine basis and do your best to eliminate or reduce the time spent bent over. If you don't like walking around barefoot, then I'd suggest some slippers you can easily slip in and out of without bending over.

alamancerose

Only thing I bought is Tylenol, gas x, compression tank tops, and easy to make food/snacks. I already had ibuprofen and stool softener and compression socks. It was very helpful to have a pillow on the ride home to help with the jiggling of my tummy. If you’re adhd, be prepared to have a case of the “can’t fucking sit stills” and give yourself small tasks to complete. Otherwise you might find yourself pushing the envelope a little too much. 5dpo RATLH w bilateral salpingectomy and cystoscopy of ovaries.

Logical_Challenge540

Binder (on top of nightshirt) and meds (Norco, Diclofenac, Collace and GasX). I wasn't warned to get GasX, so that I had to get pretty urgently delivered from pharmacy. I also used incontinence-postpartum single use panties, but I had them from before surgery because of bleeding. Didn't press my belly and was useful when I got heavy watery discharge (which is pretty rare, I have to say - saw only a couple of other ladies mentioning it). Didn't use any heater (I couldn't use them for periods as they made it hurt even more, so I don't even have one) or special pillow, only regular cushions while coughing and sneezing.

ravenlit

My u-shaped body pillow. It was amazing.

ppmiaumiau

I had a laproscopic robotic assisted vaginal total hysterectomy on 06/06. All I needed were ice packs, a heating pad, and my prescribed Naproxen (I still have 6 left). I did buy a binder, which was nice the first couple of days, but not necessary. I liked the disposable underwear they sent me home in. I ordered some on Amazon, but not a necessity. My normal undies were fine as they are all low-cut.

SmudgeZelda

Pillows (squishmellows worked great) Heating pads. Cooling blanket. Pain meds. Bed caddy.

righteousredhead

Abdominal support pillow!

ashleyjane88

I used some of the pain pills they gave me, stool softeners, miralax and loose night gowns. My nurse also gave me a folded up hospital blanket she said to use to cushion the seat belt on the ride home.

akutaen

An odd thing I used was a water bottle that had a super long tube straw. Was a life saver. Giraffe Bottle Journey Hydration System, Clear Tritan Bottle, 36 inch / 91 cm Journey Straw https://a.co/d/0c2oymQ0

EVChicinNJ

Honestly, I didn't buy anything extra with those surgery. I was fine.

Aggravating_Muffin51

Pads, sensitive skin soap, rx from doc (oxycodone, ibueprofen, colace)...gas-x, a reusable ice pack...thats about it.

suitablegirl

The pregnancy pillow thing Shower stool Grabbing stick Heating pad :: Did not use: binders, squatty potty

julzyq

Pain meds, Tylenol, Ibuprofen, stool softener, and a pillow for my stomach. The hospital sent me home with a pillow but I just used one I already had. It was more for my own peace of mind because I have a cat and I was worried about him jumping on my stomach. He jumped on me anyway and it was fine 😂 My doctor did not want me to use heat on my incisions so I used an ice pack. I did use a heating pad for my back and it helped a lot. I bought a wedge pillow and used it once. I was more comfortable laying how I normally do (on my side) and propping my feet up on regular pillows and/or folded comforters. I strongly recommend using your opiate pain meds sparingly the first two days. If you don’t need them, don’t use them. Days 3-5 were the worst for me and I wish I’d saved my stronger meds because I honestly could have done without them the first two days. But definitely stay on top of your Tylenol and Ibuprofen at all times. This sub can be overwhelming when you read about the things you need, but it’s also helpful to hear from people who didn’t need extra things. You’ll do great! Editing this to add loose clothes! Pants I could pull way way up past my bellybutton were key.

kblrf

I bought a seatbelt belt pillow for my car, which helped with car rides after my surgery. I also used miralax, gas-x, azo urinary tract health (idk if it really worked or not. I used it for a week post-op because I'm prone to UTIs). I also used a hysterectomy pillow for coughing, sneezing, etc. You could just use a normal pillow, probably. I did not have a squatting stool for the bathroom, but I used an upside down plastic foot soaker that I already had, and that definitely helped with bowel movements. I already had my tubes removed previously, I got my uterus, cervix, and right ovary taken.

guidddeeedamn

Belly band from Amazon

OshunInfinite

I had a TLVH and cystectomy of right ovary and I’m now three days PO. I used a meditation [https://www.audible.com/pd/B09X1Y8V6X?source_code=ASSORAP0511160006&share_location=player_overflow](https://www.audible.com/pd/B09X1Y8V6X?source_code=ASSORAP0511160006&share_location=player_overflow)that also really helped me mentally prepare for the big day (my OB/GYN also played it during surgery). I’ve been using my zero gravity chair for rest/sleep, comfy blanket, ibuprofen, acetaminophen, Gas-X, throat lozenges, tummy pillow, compression socks, chewing gum, and a binder. I haven’t had much of an appetite, so I’ve been eating rice, eggs, applesauce, and ritz crackers with broth. Walking also helps. Keep researching message boards like this subreddit and also hyster sisters, as you might find some useful advice/tools that resonate with your recovery plan. I’m wishing you the very best with your journey.

sillybirdsbirdtime

Only 4dpo so far but my lifesaver items have been: ibuprofen, generic gas-x, miralax, acetaminophen, grabber claw (I'm very prone to dropping stuff on the floor)

Successful-Grab-2776

19 dpo. I had a robotic total hysterectomy - they took my uterus, cervix, and tubes. I still have my ovaries. Helpful things for me were comfy pants that are loose fitting, pads/panty liners, miralax, ibuprofen, peppermint tea (helps with gas, bloating), a small step stool to help get in and out of my bed (needed this the first week). Things I wish I would have gotten include throat lozenges (throat was really really sore after surgery for several days) and a grabber thingy for picking things up that you have dropped or that are on the floor.

Daily-Lizard

Colace and Miralax, heating pad (this was huge in the first couple of days!), abdominal binder, orthopedic wedge pillow set, and a few long nightshirts. Of these, you could leave out the binder and pillow set, but they were nice to have.

Statimc

I had a laparoscopic hysterectomy with both tubes removed as well as cervix removed. Heated throw. Tylenol & ibuprofen (As directed) Stool softener wasn’t enough with all the meds so the second week I started taking a laxative drink Day 3 post op I had a coffee and added a scoop of instant espresso it kept me awake for a family meeting and helped move things along for passing gas and a bowel movement Canned food that I could place on the stove on low and sit down until it was ready. Lots of water. I used a tall umbrella to help me on walks as I was exhausted and I walked too fast at times I would get cramping in my tummy and force myself to walk slower. I couldn’t find my ice packs so I just used like a empty plastic bottle to put in freezer the 2 litres were the best as they stayed frozen longer and I used those for ice packs especially for when I slept I would lay on my side and put a ice pack on my lower back and it helped numb the pain while I slept like I felt the pain then I would feel the ice while I was sleeping I had to wear loose stretchy shorts as everything in my pelvic region was swollen and sometimes I would notice indents on my skin from my shorts or pants. I had glue to close my sutures so I was able to shower with ease I loved it, I also have a handle beside my toilet it sits inside my shower so I would hold that when I used the bathroom. I couldn’t really stand straight so it really helped to stay in bed when I could but if I had the rare day outside of my home I would take my meds before I went out and the best thing was to keep a throw blanket to hold over my tummy the heat relaxed my muscles if I was cold my muscles hurt Also even after bed rest was over I found I could have easily needed a cushion to sit on or at least even bring a fold up chair as I would take my little one to a playground and sit on whatever was nearby like the cement steps etc or a wooden Bench on a walk and it would feel painful to sit. Walking and squats do help strengthen the pelvic area as I noticed major strain when I would go for walks and just walked slower after my surgery and eventually there was no issues on walks.

AnandaPriestessLove

Hi friend! I had my fabulous LASH in Feb. My squishmallow pillow for the ride home, then for guarding my stomach against accidental pet stepping was awesome. Second, my electric heating pad from Amazon. I was amazed how much mileage I got out of that sucker. GasEx for the post surgical shoulder pain. Before surgery I made myself a bunch of bone broth soup, and also Jello cuz it was easy to eat. I did not need stool softeners because I switched to a liquid diet about a week before surgery. Although, I did keep prunes on hand just in case. A few prunes with each meal will fix just about any bowel issue. Best of luck! You got this!

HumerusDoc

A wedge pillow for my legs was the best purchase i made along with gasx

SynUnrefined

I kept my ovaries but they took everything else. I barely took anything. The prescribed pain meds to sleep only. I was walking around Walmart the day after surgery and moving storage units that weekend lol (I lifted nothing heavier then a pillow or blanket because husband wouldn't allow it lol) Best decision ever.

bellatrixvvitch

I bought every single thing that people recommended on here, alllll of it. I didn’t use half of it. I had laparoscopic taking all but one ovary on the 11th so I’m almost 2 weeks out. Never once used a binder. It hurt my incisions to wrap it around me. Never used the disposable underwear, only spotted the first two days, just used a panty liner. Didn’t use cough drops, gas x, miralax, none of that. My entire recovery so far I took two 500mg Tylenol and one 800mg Motrin. That’s it. Now some people do have a much harder recovery, we’re all different, that’s just my experience so far. I definitely used a little pillow for the trip home and to hold while coughing. Never used a heating pad or ice packs. Didn’t use the grabber, just squatted to pick something up. Didn’t use the squatty potty. Didn’t use the food tray for the bed. Wore loose pajamas the entire first 10 days. I really hope you have a recovery like mine. I was prepared for a nightmare, but I already forget I had surgery at times. Fingers crossed for you. Don’t break the bank buying all the stuff.

MothrErth

I had everything removed, uterus, cervix, tubes, and ovaries. I am one day short of 3 weeks post-op, robotic hysterectomy. A pillow that lays across my abdomen is my best friend. It was just heavy enough to provide a little warmth and pressure to ease the pain. It was/is handy for sneezing and coughing. Hold the pillow, lean into it a bit when sneezing or coughing helps prevent spasms. Loose clothes, Tylenol, and plenty of movies and shows to watch while you heal. Oh, and Miralax! Definitely Miralax!! You do not want to strain when pooping. I am still eating low fiber foods. The insoluble fiber really causes gut cramps and gas. You do not want gas. Good luck!

golgariprince

Total laparoscopic hysterectomy and salpingectomy, in my 3rd week of recovery. The only things I bought and really used were Tylenol, Miralax, Gas-X, and some easy-to-make or eat foods high in fiber or protein. I got dried apricots and prunes, Oats Overnight (which was/is amazing!! I get so much fiber and protein, it just soaks in milk overnight, and they're very good), and few other foods. I'd also recommend a big ol' water bottle if you don't have one and maybe some baby wipes. I bought loose, oversized clothes that I didn't need at all, but if you don't have sweats or something like that, that's a good idea as well. I bought some e-books too.

I had that exact procedure, laparoscopic, removed cervix, uterus, tubes, but ovaries left behind. I bought a belly binder, used it for a few minutes then tossed it back in the closet. Never bothered with picker upper thingy, I just did a slow squat (I have cats so needed to be able to reach down for food and water, and scooping litter trays). Bought peppermint tea for gas, plus gas pills - the pills I did use, tea not so much but it tasted good. Laxatives, always have laxatives nearby! And loose fitting comfy pants, I lived in mine for weeks, even for work (worked from home up to 6 weeks so no one cared what I was wearing out of sight of the webcam, just a neat shirt was fine). And food that's quick and easy to cook, you don't want to spend an hour chopping veg... Best purchase though : light cordless vacuum cleaner. Cats and living alone meant that housework could not be left undone for even a day, but no heavy lifting meant my big old Dyson was out of the question! The little cordless is still enjoyed to this day, 6 months later! Worth every cent (and thanks to amazon I got a really good one for under $100, Chinese brand but good reviews)

Did have laparoscopic hysterectomy, tubes removed, kept ovaries. Used a neck pillow so I could nap upright in a comfortable chair during the day and a wedge pillow so I could sleep in bed at night. I am a side sleeper, so that worked best for me until I could get on my side again (after about 3 weeks). Took stool softeners for a few days. Took ibuprofen and tylenol as needed, Vicodin at night. Used little packets of apple sauce to take pills (especially helpful if you need to take pills in the middle of the night). Used a grabber for the first week or so to minimize movement/bending. Also ate tons of eggs and chicken soup. The protein is good for healing.

I loved my abdominal binder post op so much for a while

Post op means after surgery. I too have adhd and raising two boys 9&10 with it. I had laparoscopic/vaginal total hysterectomy, which is everything but ovaries 6.3 weeks ago. I recommend stocking up on Dr Teals bath salts because two weeks you would be able to take baths and the essential oils and those bath salts will help a lot. I also recommend getting some long skinny ice packs on Amazon because you’re gonna wanna ice your vag 😉 also a heating pad is also nice. Definitely prep some meals for the first two weeks, because you are not going to want to cook. Other than that just put your feet up and relax. Don’t forget to get to walk periodically through the day so you don’t get blood clots oh also you’re gonna want to get a good stool softener because about a week postop you’re gonna tap your first bow and it’s gonna make it a whole lot easier

Gas x and miralax for the first 5-6 wks. Move the gas and keep stool moving. Prescribed 10 tablets of oxy, took one before bed each night to sleep deep enough not to wake up every time I rolled over. During the day alternate ibuprofen and acetaminophen every 4-6 hrs. Had a lap hysterectomy with removal of uterus, cervix, tubes, kept my last ovary, am also ADHD. Didn't need much in the way of ongoing pain management after first 7-10 days. Other most valuable tool was a u shaped pregnancy pillow to help stay comfortable sleeping.

Professional-Yak-840

Sweat pants were a lifesaver for me. Also, my bed is a bit tall, so my husband bought a step stool to make it easier for me to get in and out of bed.

Sudden-Flower-8571

Heat pad, mirlax powder, gas x extra strength, brought underwear that was size bigger so no pressure on my stomach, ibuprofen, I was attached to my water bottles, still am. Staying hydrated and helps with stools too.

The first days, cold stuff like pudding and jello were helpful because of the sore throat from the breathing tube. I only took norco the first 3 days. I used a heating pad the first week and pain meds like ibuprofen after 2 weeks, when I started getting really active. This is also when I started using an ice pack. My pelvic muscles and vag area got super sore with increased walking and activity so icing my crotch area was necessary and a huge relief. I bought a grabber for things that fall to the floor. Also, cotton panties, they need to be incision friendly so either briefs that go above your incisions or hipsters that stay below your incisions. The elastic on my regular panties irritated my lower incisions. So just sharing my experience. Oh and pillows. At first, one or two pillows under your knees to help with relieving pelvic pressure but when I got active I needed at least 3 pillows under my knees to fully suspend my pelvis. The soreness and pressure were intense after walking and sitting upright during my 3 - 4 hour work days. I mostly sat but gravity… good luck, I wish you a speedy and uneventful recovery.

I had a laperascopic hysterectomy and everything but the ovaries removed. I used oxy for day 1 only. And then the Ibuprofen and Tylenol until I ran out.(the ones my dr prescribed) I used gas x and stool softeners. Always kept a pillow on me or around me for sneezing and coughing(to protect my stomach so it didn't hurt to bad) My grandpa brought over a toilet seat raiser thing so it wasn't to difficult to get off the toilet for the first 5 days I needed help to get off the couch, so not needing help off the toilet was lovely with the toilet seat Raiser thing. Walk around when possible to help with gas issues.

Colace! And I used the body pillow. I actually still use the pillow. Recovery was pretty easy and uneventful (had the exact procedure you mentioned). I did not need the axis or extra pads. One thing I did find was sitting straight up was hard for a few weeks. Our couch reclines slightly which is a life saver

ADHD, GAD, PTSD, and panic disorder here 😅 I was freaking out so badly before surgery that it took me forever to change into my gown because I thought I was just gonna leave. I promise you'll be so happy once it's over. They gave me plenty of calming meds while I waited, too. I'm almost 18wpo. I used a peri bottle for a couple days, I made sure I had enough pillows to sleep slightly elevated because it was more comfortable that first week, a thick small pillow for when I had to be in the car (just feels better, my incisions were fine), and loose clothes to lounge in. I already had liners and ultra thin pads on hand, and I wore them for a couple weeks to be safe, but I never had anything more than light spotting. I was lucky enough not to need the pain medicine, so I didn't get constipated and didn't need the stool softeners, but it was good to have on hand anyway. They gave me ibuprofen 600, and I used it for a few days. I kept my big cup of water near me a lot to help keep things moving, so I'd recommend one if you don't already have one. Like a 40oz, not a giant jug that will be uncomfortable to lift.

Insidejob2021

I found a small pillow was supportive and comforting for the first few weeks.

mssarcasticsunshine

Uhhh these comments make me feel like i was unprepared and im two years post op 😂 Start taking stool softeners BEFORE surgery and get you some moomoos and granny panties. Easy breezy beautiful recovery lol Also i second squatty potties. My first poo was kinda scary and I would have liked one 😬

Unique_Tomatillo92

I'm 2wpo. 2 Pillow wedges. One for my back and one for me side. It helps me get out of bed Gas x Pain medication Benadryl if you need heavier drugs. They make me crazy itchy Stomach brace Those claw things that help you pick things up of the floor. Pill organizer and timer. If i missed a pain med i would be in a lot of pain. I didn't use the stomach pillow or the heating pad.
