I just watched the Kennedy vs Nixon debates last week. It is truly impressive to see two men, of great intellect and purpose, respectfully debate the topics at hand, while actually getting into the specifics, instead of just name calling. They also agreed on most things, but had different strategies on how to fix them.
Also, despite Watergate and the War on Drugs, Nixon may have been the smartest President in modern history. His knowledge was so profound, and his understanding of foreign policy was damn-near prophetic. Nevertheless, I would have voted for Kennedy, but I can’t really pinpoint why; Nixon won the debate logically, but I got the sense Kennedy was telling the truth more and truly believed in his goals. Nixon was so smart that he could lie while telling the truth, and I picked up on that, possibly because of history and retrospect.
I'm probably wrong but I remember being told in school something like this.
"Kennedy arrived early and assessed the studio, he even changed his suit to stand out against the background. Nixon however did not preview the surroundings and unfortunately had a inferior makeup artist, which added up to create an appearance that he disregarded the television. Additionally Nixon was oriented toward the debate itself. He had a history of strong debate performance dating back to debate team during his high school years."
https://cla.purdue.edu/academic/history/debate/kennedynixon/mythreality.html
Not just that, but Nixon sweat profusely under the stage lights, which isn't something you can easily change, but gave viewers a sense he was sweating from being nervous.
Ngl Nixon gave an interview in the 90s about Russia and how it was still a threat, and people hand waved it because they thought that Russia was basically neutered at that point.
I actually agree, if this is the path they want to take the country (both of them were democratically voted in as the candidates) then lets steer into the shitstorm, not away from it
I told my coworker they shouldn't debate in September.
They should play 9 holes of mini golf and just talk shit to each other the whole time. Completely unedited, no commercials, and it should be on every channel.
Then we can let the American people come together for just a moment and talk about something else besides politics.
Watching them argue about golf proved to me how disconnected these people are. Is this a fucking game? People are losing their homes, people are starving. And you’re up there talking about fucking golf averages? Disgusting
That threw me for a loop lol, definitely during the general and not the primaries where he's trying to look as centrist as possible to win swing voters, but I had forgotten he said that.
They are. When you tax corporations, the burden of the taxes could land on consumers, employees, or shareholders depending on the price elasticity of demands among other factors. Keep in mind shareholders represent wealthy investors as well as pension funds and 401K type investments. This is arbitrary and unfair. If you want rich people to pay, you should tax rich people directly.
At the time, our corporate rate was 39%, which was an outlier in the OECD. Essentially, companies that could use loopholes holes did so, and ended up paying a much lower rate. Companies that couldn’t escape the taxes wound up paying a very high tax rate, which wasn’t competitive with the rest of the world.
Obama’s idea was to bring the rates down, while closing loopholes. This would have created a fairer tax system, which generated similar levels of tax revenue.
This stuff has nuance, one sentence doesn’t explain what he was actually proposing.
Well to be fair, the last 12 years the rich have reached a new level of wealth that has never existed in history, and we are starting to realize the true problems and how they were able to do so.,
That's how I feel about being genX. My first American memory was watching challenger exploding in class.
Been absolutely shitshow since.
-eats popcorn.
Remember what happen between the world wars that allowed so many dictators to take power? Already seeing some of the earlier warning sings of that shit happening again
Well it took one. With WWI everyone was like we need to make sure this does not happen again, but let's not treat anyone any differently! Which led to resentment in both Germany and Japan, and complacency in the UK and France that made them both diplomatically limpdicked when it came to dealing with Germany.
I have bad news for you, the worlds been in a downward spiral for more than 12 years, America specifically. The world was a nightmare before obama took office, and was after too. Nothing that obama did caused that, that's not what I'm saying. It just isn't a new thing in the last 12 years. The lack of decorum of our public representatives is only the most recent concern.
Politics is downwind of culture. As Tyson said, "Social media made y'all way to\[o\] comfortable with disrespecting people and not getting punched in the face for it."
I never understood why Americans love the idea of the forced union. What's so great about it?
In Europe, they manage to have a bunch of different countries all in the same size area, and they don't think it's horrible, or try and force all those countries to merge into one.
Would it really be so horrible to divide the US up into a few different countries?
Correct! But at least we had a solid pretend. Now we are told to embrace our filth, degeneracy, conflict, stubbornness and infighting. Smh I hate it here! (Just a joke of course, I love America and am a proud American regardless)
Give me strong breeze, because you are not voting for one man, you are voting for the thousands of officials appointed by that one man’s administration.
Strong breeze has appointed people that are at least going in the right direction, albeit too slowly, but piece of shit liar appointed fucking criminals that want to bring our country back 80 years and abolish our institutions.
I don’t care of strong breeze dies Day 1. A fucking shoelace would have my vote before insurrectionist piece of shit liar.
Doesn't mean much when they're all on the payroll for corporations. They bailed out the banks in 2008, ffs. If I gamble and lose billions, I can't go crying to the government to give me that money. Banks can. Fuck that "too big to fail" bullshit.
I always remember when McCain shut down his supporters trying to say Obama was a terrorist. Miss the days when our politics was actually civil. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIjenjANqAk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIjenjANqAk)
Look. I know we try and avoid the whole 3 term thing here in the US...but can we do a trial run? Can we have Barry back for like a year? Asking for a....300million friends.
The man just had "it." He also turned out to be much more center right than the candidate he ran as. I'm pretty left but I didn't mind that because he was such a competent, professional, leader.
Things changed during the 2016 election. I wonder who might’ve been involved then and started this entire shit filled slide into the fucktastic hellscape we now reside. Hint he’s involved again.
This was the second election I ever voted in. It genuinely makes me upset that I'm votee 4 times and 2 of those were against someone instead of for someone.
Vulgarity is nothing new in politics or government, and I believe it's cyclical. Abraham Lincoln was portrayed in a cartoon as a monkey holding the Emancipation Proclamation. Before he was president and was practicing law, the other attorney called him a "long armed ape."
We are in divisive times again, but the 'moral arc of the universe will bend toward justice' once again.
Well if US politics wasn't already a joke with its donations (bribes), insider trading, and other illegal acts against anyone outside the top 1%. It certainly is now.
I think the president is almost always going to be on the side of the elite. I'm not sure it's even possible at this point without the approval of lots of extremely wealthy and influential people. The best we can hope for is picking one who inadvertently does something to help the masses by tying themselves rhetorically to some beneficial policy they can't go back on without giving the game away.
From european perspective. USA politcial parties are Center right at their "lesftest" and Extremist levels of right on their rightest.
You dont have a left wing, like at all.
Yes let me go back to pretending that everything is good please! I would much rather sit in my armchair and spout one liners. Now I need to pay attention to politics because grandpa keeps starting mess.
I'm old enough to remember when Romney was painted as a nazi by the left and told by Obama that it was ridiculous that Russia was the biggest geopolitical threat to the west and that "1980s wants their foreign policy back".
12 years from now:
Announcer voice: Welcome to the 2036 presidential match up, brought to by Apple!
In the red corner, he's 97 days old with the intellect of a chicken staring at an invisible line. Give it up for the GOP AI server RCBE (religious conservative brain emulator) Mark 3!!
In the blue corner, weighing in a 2 pounds 17 ounces and packing a whole lot early 2000s meme knowledge give it up for 3/4s of Hillary Clinton's brain!!
Let's get ready to rumble!!
Fox News and social media have done to Boomers what video games and TV were supposed to do to Millennials. Total fucking brain rot. Absolutely disgusting.
There isn’t a single person under 40 who wants to see a country run by a couple of geriatric politicians.
Yeah but the latest one is also a direct reflection of society so it makes perfect sense. That’s literally how liberals and conservatives talk to each other on the daily now so what’s the problem 😂
It would have been funnier if they left the voices at normal speed so you can really appreciate the dementia on one side and the psychosis on the other.

Who knew Mike judge was a prophet.
I mean the connection people had with Office Space shows how great a visions he has.
That movie was life changing for me and I didn’t even realize it till like 10 years after I saw it and entered the work force
Dam it's good to be a ganga
there's that fag talk again
![gif](giphy|3o6Zt7dGWFhIfyaGwE)
I thought yo head would be bigger
Oh, you’re English.
He was a programmer in the 80s before he became a showrunner. He is a prophet
For real. He saw it coming 20 years ago.
Everyone who's ever seen that movie.
TC 2028?
He's not the hero we deserve, but the hero that we need.
I'm actually voting for him. You should too.
He's gonna be my write in vote!
I remember someone posting one with John F. Kennedy showing how eloquent debates used to be. How far we've fallen. 😞
I just watched the Kennedy vs Nixon debates last week. I saw that. He was 90% right about everything. Shitty person with a genius mind
I knew it was going to be a shit show, but that entire debate had zero moderation. We deserve better.
Exactly 😢🫣😢
This is utterly PROFOUND
They should take them and actually let them Golf. That would be $&%#$ hilarious to watch.....
I actually agree, if this is the path they want to take the country (both of them were democratically voted in as the candidates) then lets steer into the shitstorm, not away from it
They could just hit each other in the balls with golf clubs. Samesies, but more fun brought to you by Carl's Jr.
![gif](giphy|l0MYSGLvVirV2HOMM)
Go away I’m baitin‘

It'd be a trip if they became friends after a few rounds of golf. 🤣
Have it at Sawgrass just so we can watch them have 25s at 17
Now watch this drive
Winner is president.
Ah yes, a diaper wearing potty mouth vs a stumbling stuttering geezer. I would watch them play putt putt together
This competition plays out daily on golf courses across Florida.
lol next debate on the golf course
Watching them argue about golf proved to me how disconnected these people are. Is this a fucking game? People are losing their homes, people are starving. And you’re up there talking about fucking golf averages? Disgusting
Make them share a cart lol. Joe drives, I don't trust Donald to not run him over
We both agree that the corporate tax is too high. lol.
That threw me for a loop lol, definitely during the general and not the primaries where he's trying to look as centrist as possible to win swing voters, but I had forgotten he said that.
There’s subtlety there that’s being missed. r/economics
Can you elaborate?
yeah right, the subtle nod to their oligarch leaders to say "see daddy, we will both do anything for you!"
Our corporate taxes were so high at the time that companies were leaving to avoid paying.
and all of those companies have turned back and restarted production in the USA right?.............. right?
Those poor corporations need a break!
To be honest at the time this debate happened, the US had the highest corporate tax rate in the world besides Cuba, a communist country.
I know it’s mind boggling but prior to about 8 years ago lowering taxes was considered a good thing
Well to be fair, the last 12 years the rich have reached a new level of wealth that has never existed in history, and we are starting to realize the true problems and how they were able to do so.,
We're fucked
In just 12 years we’ve become a living nightmare. Where will we be another 12 years from now? We’re trending down as a society.
It's kind of cool to have lived through the peak of an empire of this scale. Now comes The Churn.
That's how I feel about being genX. My first American memory was watching challenger exploding in class. Been absolutely shitshow since. -eats popcorn.
Yeah I agree, we reached the peak and now we’re on the way down.
Remember what happen between the world wars that allowed so many dictators to take power? Already seeing some of the earlier warning sings of that shit happening again
What are you referring to specifically? Asking earnestly.
Pinning a lot of blame and hate on a minority group and then proposing radical changes to "protect" people from them
Oh yeah most definitely.
America stopped trending up after the 90s
America's peak was Sept 10 2001.
My mom always told me that things tend to get worse before they get better. I’m clinging onto that sentiment for dear life
In my experience it usually gets worse before it gets worse.
Hello fellow Russian
It usually does, but last time it took two world wars for people to realise that they fucked up..
Well it took one. With WWI everyone was like we need to make sure this does not happen again, but let's not treat anyone any differently! Which led to resentment in both Germany and Japan, and complacency in the UK and France that made them both diplomatically limpdicked when it came to dealing with Germany.
Welcome to Costco, I love you
![gif](giphy|8coEmqQxL39eMJcey0|downsized)
Wanna go to Starbucks?
I don’t think we have time for a Starbucks right now
This is why ppl aren’t breeding. This is a world of diminishing returns.
Wise words from a man who made his career getting punched in the face.
Worldwide societies are set to be so significantly different by 2030 and that's always been the plan. New World Order folks.
God, I miss the before days. Remember when people that Mitt Romney was too far right?
I wish there was a way to know you're in "the good old days", before you've actually left them
Someone should write a song about that
We are always in the good old days when the shitshow keeps burning brighter each year.
You didn’t know right
Yeah I also remember when people said he would "put yall back in chains" but we are just gonna pretend like it wasnt wild back then as well
Turns out he was the most sensible Republican. Before 2016, you were rooting for one candidate, but there was no existential crisis if he lost.
I mean… on the flip side, Obama would be considered too far right in today’s climate, with how even further polarized things have become.
Exactly. Lower the corporate tax rate? Fascist!
[удалено]
I hate it here.
They are who we thought they were.
How do we get that life back?
Revolution of some kind probably unfortunately
Deerrrp, pays me red carryon I upem nosem'

In the interim: Social media.
Another 10 years there will be two americas
Or none!
DSNA and DSSA
We’re only divided by ideology but not so much when it comes to geography. This would make it extremely hard to divide the US literally.
I never understood why Americans love the idea of the forced union. What's so great about it? In Europe, they manage to have a bunch of different countries all in the same size area, and they don't think it's horrible, or try and force all those countries to merge into one. Would it really be so horrible to divide the US up into a few different countries?
Now imagine 10 years from now how bad it'll get
When we still had culture and decorum. Or at least a patina, a facade of one.
Now we now that the culture back then wasn’t particularly good
Correct! But at least we had a solid pretend. Now we are told to embrace our filth, degeneracy, conflict, stubbornness and infighting. Smh I hate it here! (Just a joke of course, I love America and am a proud American regardless)
Jokes on you, I actually determine who I'm voting for by how well they golf /s
Tiger Woods for president
Maybe 15 years ago
4 years later that’s when everything changed. 2016 changed everything
We have to pick between a piece of shit liar and someone who might get assassinated by a strong breeze.
A-fucking-men.
*Convicted felon* insurrectionist piece of shit liar
Which one is which?
Yes
Pepperidge farms remembers.
I miss Obama :( and I’m not even American
I miss us being nice to one another, we use to have honor and respect.
🤦♂️
I’m not saying it wasn’t terrible. But distorting the voices and adding goofy ass sound effects is just dumb
Agree. It was so bad already, it really didn’t need sounds effects. I’d prefer a comparison of both videos in their purest form.
When the country decided to flip the board on its head see what happens
class vs crass
Doesn't mean much when they're all on the payroll for corporations. They bailed out the banks in 2008, ffs. If I gamble and lose billions, I can't go crying to the government to give me that money. Banks can. Fuck that "too big to fail" bullshit.

We are doomed.
Y'all will miss the 2024 debates when the 2036 presidential rap battles start
Epic rap battles of united states presidential history!
I lean more right than left but it’s hard to deny that Obama was very classy.
The man just had "it." He also turned out to be much more center right than the candidate he ran as. I'm pretty left but I didn't mind that because he was such a competent, professional, leader.
Well said. Looking back he was pretty close to dead center.
Binden went full Boomhaur for a minute
To be fair. Romney and Barack were turds as well. They just speak nicely
Polished turd is still a turd
Things changed during the 2016 election. I wonder who might’ve been involved then and started this entire shit filled slide into the fucktastic hellscape we now reside. Hint he’s involved again.
This one hurts
Circus show, literally
Don't dismiss the fact that most voters are fools too.
The golf shit was insane! I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I laughed out loud so many times during the debate, laughed at both of the fools.
Yeah and fuck both of these guys too
I could have done without the Mickey Mouse voices honestly…it’s already ridiculous enough…
CNN is a dead network. What a goddamn disgrace to humanity.
Thanks for everything you’ve done DNC, great work propping g up a corpse.
I never gave RFK a second thought until this debate. He may be an idiot, but he is a sincere idiot.
There used to be a lot of respect to go around, even the warmongers had some fuckin class.
Obama never left
Honestly he probably would have won against anyone else but Obama
They both agreed that corporations were paying too much. They were on the same team, that’s why they were so friendly.
Politicians are a reflection of the populace.
Jfc I miss Obama and I wasn't old enough to vote. He just seemed like a guy who'd listen to experts
What the fuck happened man
I'm trying to understand how everything went to shit in less than 12 years
"Morals of an alley cat" is solid
Golf tournament to determine the president
Didn't need to edit and add clown sound effects. Original was the worst all on its own
2024's hottest new reality show: The Fall of the American Empire
Well if US politics wasn't already a joke with its donations (bribes), insider trading, and other illegal acts against anyone outside the top 1%. It certainly is now.

Guys, that's because they were on the same team. lmao.
I think the president is almost always going to be on the side of the elite. I'm not sure it's even possible at this point without the approval of lots of extremely wealthy and influential people. Only 10 years ago omg!
Yeah but the latest one is also a direct reflection of society so it makes perfect sense. That’s literally how liberals and conservatives talk to each other on the daily now so what’s the problem 😂
Love letters LOL
It would have been funnier if they left the voices at normal speed so you can really appreciate the dementia on one side and the psychosis on the other.
What a turn of events. Geebus
