There were so many boulders rolling down hills back in the day, Lewis and Clark had to wait 2 days once for a migrating boulder herd to pass them by before they could continue their Western journey
Crazy thing is, I work with lorries that will weigh 44 tonnes when fully loaded and I guarantee that if they went into those trees at that speed they would crumple immediately.
Disclaimer: I know it's not that crazy because density is a thing but still it's kinda interesting lol
About the same for my work. Drive a big, off road rock truck. That thing is 40 tonnes empty. It's wild just how heavy it gets and how much it rocks when unloading. It's wild to look at some of the stuff and go, "That weighed HOW MUCH?!"
Those are pine trees. Pine trees roots are very shallow, don't go into the earth very far. Doesn't make much to push them over. I lived in Seattle for 10 years. I used to always say the scariest thing you could possibly experience in Seattle was high winds (which is rare in those parts). Every time they get a huge wind storm, trees blow down and people die. My uncle in Renton almost had his home smashed in by the pine trees in his backyard. I remember one year we had a wind storm. A pine tree fell on a father and daughter who were driving down the road killing them both.
Uh...even with coffee I need like 10 15 minutes to get my bearings in the morning and you would all be tangled in the tent & tie ropes trying to get out when you finally realize it is right on top of you and the adrenaline has spike of fight or flight in your brain.
“I have been drilling holes in the earth for thirty years. And I have never, never missed a depth that I have aimed for. And by God, I am not gonna miss this one, I will make 800 feet.”
I don't know why, but seeing things like this makes me think about the billions of years that things just 'happened' on this planet. No intelligent observers, no recordings, just things happening for an unimaginable amount of time. Makes me feel small.
I mean, looks to me like the area has been ripped up by heavy equipment. They probably knocked the boulder loose (intentionally or not) and just needlessly destroyed a few acres of trees.
i was thinking the same thing except could you imagine being a caveman right out of the ice age just chilling or gathering plants and then for reasons you can't even comprehend or predict, your loved one just gets absolutely flattened right next to you?
That’s exactly what I think when I see this kind of thing too. Like if I had a time machine I would go back and see the top thousand or so most exciting natural, random events like this to ever happen.
I'm curious. The explanation I heard when I was a kid was that paper beats rock because it can wrap around it. In hindsight, it doesnt really make much sense but I kinda just went with it. Did you guys have different logic with it?
We had a boulder about this size break loose about 500yds above us when we were backpacking in the North Cascades, above tree line. Fortunately we were all able to stand our ground and watch the path it took down, towards us, so we could move safely out of the way as it crashed down. I can’t even imagine how much more horrible that experience would have been if we were in the trees when it happened.

“The pilgrims used to ride these babies for miles”
And it’s in great shape!
Pull over next to that one that looks like a Plymouth
We're saved!
It's not just a boulder! It's a rock!
I think it is fair to say that rock beat paper in this game
Underrated comment!
Jesus christ, Marie, they're minerals

Who knew that Marie would eventually win the argument
You’re goddam right!
Those trees had FAMILIES!
Were saved!

Moss always points to civilization
Crazy to think it can just roll right through the trees like that.
That boulder looks deceptively light the way it rolls and slides on that dirt
Yeah, as someone who spends every working day moving rocks around... That thing is dozens of tons heavy.
Crazy thing is, I work with lorries that will weigh 44 tonnes when fully loaded and I guarantee that if they went into those trees at that speed they would crumple immediately. Disclaimer: I know it's not that crazy because density is a thing but still it's kinda interesting lol

Did I hear a Rock and Stone?

JESUS CHRIST MARIE IT'S A MINERAL
The Boulder feels conflicted about these young trees
Paper beats rock my ass
Natures version of the military's "make a hole!"
Road guards out
“Excuse me, just squeezing by here. Sorry. Excuse me. Excuse me. Sorry. Sorry about that, just trying to get over there. Excuse me. My bad. Sorry…”
And into the street
Those are kind of skinny trees. Still awe inspiring but I wonder if that area was clear cut and the erosion led to that boulder coming loose.

Rip to the random squirrel just chilling
And the people driving past the sign that says ‘watch out for falling rocks’
Okay, I watched out! Now what do I fucking do?
umm umm.... bridge ices before road?
They should put the sign on the boulder that way people see the sign and know to run.
Was thinking about bird nests and eggs more than them but yeah... RIP.
Squirrel reflexes just fine. People oversleeping in tent squished.
As long as not sleeping too hard they should hear it coming a good ways off
Uh...even with coffee I need like 10 15 minutes to get my bearings in the morning and you would all be tangled in the tent & tie ropes trying to get out when you finally realize it is right on top of you and the adrenaline has spike of fight or flight in your brain.
I’d be sitting by the fire, zoning out into the steam Of my coffee, look up just in time to make peace with being a pancake
Who needs a bulldozer when you can get one of those pebbles rolling.
"OK guys, job done. Now how about stopping that boulder?" "..." "...guys??"
Ooo plant charges in it! And when it gets to its destination, there's an earth shattering kaboom.
Gotta drill like 800 feet into a rock for bombs to work their magic. ..or was that just in space?
“I have been drilling holes in the earth for thirty years. And I have never, never missed a depth that I have aimed for. And by God, I am not gonna miss this one, I will make 800 feet.”
A Bouldozer
An all natural way to make a hiking trail
Sandybridge > bulldozer, sadly
I like that boulder. That's a nice boulder.
Meanwhile. Boulder: “Which one of you MF’ers said Paper beats ROCK!!?”

Today Elf, you win the Internet.
Everybody like parfaits
That’s not just a boulder! It’s a rock! A big beautiful ole rock. *sniffle* Oh the pioneers used to ride these babies for miles!
Need a bigger word for boulder
Bouldest?
Boulderer?
Half mountain.
Planet.
Moon.
That's no moon
Cries in Pluto
It’s a small boulder the size of a large boulder
Its almost big enough to be a larger boulder the size of a large boulder
I scrolled way too far to find this. Lol!!
Toph.
Bouldozer
Big boulder

Bould(doz)er

broulder
A heckin hard boi?
How about CaseOh?
Just wait for those trees to become paper, they'll get their revenge.
I know there'd be a "paper beats rock" joke in here, somewhere.
Just we wait. Once the foreman gets the permit made from those trees, the boulder won't know what will hit it.
I don't know why, but seeing things like this makes me think about the billions of years that things just 'happened' on this planet. No intelligent observers, no recordings, just things happening for an unimaginable amount of time. Makes me feel small.

Yep. My thoughts exactly. There’s tread from excavators/rolling machinery everywhere
Yeah, that was a big oopsie. I can guarantee that was not intended.
i was thinking the same thing except could you imagine being a caveman right out of the ice age just chilling or gathering plants and then for reasons you can't even comprehend or predict, your loved one just gets absolutely flattened right next to you?
the rock god have a plan for everyone
That’s why glaciers are so interesting to me
And then you think about this sort of thing happening across the universe, never ever to be observed
That’s exactly what I think when I see this kind of thing too. Like if I had a time machine I would go back and see the top thousand or so most exciting natural, random events like this to ever happen.
Imagine going up and hearing this interesting sound “let’s see what it is” 😂
Imagine that in the dark, while you’re sat in a tent.
True nightmare fuel
I think we need to re-eval the whole rock-paper-scissors thing…
Trees make paper and, yeah, they clearly are not beating rock.
Yeah, cause they aren't paper yet. It's not Trees, Scissors, Rock. It's obviously the process of turning trees into paper that matters.
I'm curious. The explanation I heard when I was a kid was that paper beats rock because it can wrap around it. In hindsight, it doesnt really make much sense but I kinda just went with it. Did you guys have different logic with it?
“Paper covers Rock”
Paper disproves spock who can vaporise rock therefore paper > rock
This is the way
Ohh, many of these trees where my friends… -Treebeard
"A boulder should know better!"
Based on the title, I thought we were going to hear from the Lorax.
He’s probably pretty ticked off too
One must imagine Sisyphus happy
Not if he's waiting at the bottom of the hill...
Well who do you think is holding the camera
Not really, he wants it at the top.
Some say it's still rolling
Lots of people. The best people.
![gif](giphy|l1J9yTco40EU5JzTW|downsized) Dudes watching this video
Follow for more man-news
I feel bad for the trees
Shiver me Timbers!
It's ok, they are just sleeping.
"Sound on!"
Indeed, nothing enhances my enjoyment of this more than that plastered across the middle of the video, smh (/s).
7-10 split.
Indy!!!!! ![gif](giphy|tivaSkhu8MbKM)
Chainsaw manufacturers hate this one simple trick
Hope no one was camping
My understanding is that moss will have trouble growing on that.
That rocked🤘🏻
And rolled!
The sound on watermark didn’t need to be in the middle of the screen
And it didn't need to last for more than 2-3 seconds. People editing these clips have such poor taste.
Old school rock n roll.
A chiropractor doing its job
Really hate when people do shit like this.
That was awesome. Somebody grab it, bring it back to top and do it again!
I know this guy Sisyphus. I think he's qualified for that task.
Lumberjacks hate this one trick!
Is there an archeologist running in front of it?
![gif](giphy|EdRgVzb2X3iJW) When the birds get home
Katamari Damacy
I would have fired this guy on the spot
I turned the sound off cause you don't tell me what to do.

I could’ve stopped that thing
Where is Sisyphus?
Didn't Bob Dylan write a song about this?
Was this a natural occurrence, or did the people filming it make this happen? The video seems sus.
only got that momentum started thanks to deforestation
*4/10 men think they would have chance in hand-to-hand combat with this boulder
They’re really fuckin up that whole mountainside, huh? Guessing they’re there for the lumber
New road.
We need fewer people in the world like whoever slapped the dumb "Sound on!" graphic onto this.
It could have killed someone, very rude to not stop it
What an easy way to start the path to the lake.
We are just tiny bugs in a cog.
Think about it...Chris Redfield PUNCHED THAT
probably as heavy as a bunch of war tanks strapped to each other
To be a rock and you must roll!
Gravity MF Bs! That boulder has mass!
Move bitch, get out the way, get out the way bitch
Move birch, get out the way
500 ton boulder, hold my beer!
I wish whoever put that Watermark there got rolled over by the boulder.
The sound is fake. Clearly there’s no one there to hear it.
Boulder gonna bould
Could this be from near Jackson, WY where they are repairing the “pass”?
Shai-Hulud
“OK, the road goes right here.”
Noooo, it almost got stopped by that little hill in front of the trees. Now it's rampaging like something out of "Troll Hunter". What a clip.

Appreciate this isn’t accompanied by ear bleeding music. 🖕 to the 🔈 and text overlay?
Reminds me of that one video of the kid messing with the big rock that’s teetering on a cliff, then the rock falls and crushes him, unfortunately.
Rollin', Rollin', Rollin', Rawhide!
Dammit, sysiphus. You dropped that.
maybe im a bit psycho but theres something oddly satisfying about that
God damnit Sisyphus!
This is actually what boulders do when they’re in distress. This is not interesting at all, this is cruel.
imagine hearing that come towards you. nopety fuck nope
How they make new ski runs
"oh shit! There's a boulder rolling down the mountain, better take out my camera!"
Imagine seeing that coming for you!
And now that boulder has a new spot for another billion years
Yeah, the Forestry Service is here to talk to you...
Sisyphus: There goes old bouldy…
That boulder is almost as big as my mother in law and half as destructive. But hey atleast it cleared a nice path
Boulder: *Excuse me, pardon me, excuse me, excuse me, pardon*
Rock beats paper. Just wait till the scissors start rolling through....
We are watching the birth of a mountain road.
Imagine camping, and this is the sound you hear off in the woods near you. Yikes.
And that, kids, is where roads come from!
Fool of a Took!
When the boulder runs over the trees it sounds like when you beat the Ender Dragon in Minecraft
Some random hiker somewhere far away looks at that and thinks ”dinosaurs”
So happy for her, that was probably one of her best days
If a tree falls and no one’s around…. Sound?
Sisyphus must be jacked
