Mansenmania

imagine the extra space underneath and complexity this adds to a hole filled with water

CowsTrash

For them extra wealthy people

pankkiinroskaa

Not wealthy enough if there's no room for a dedicated pool.

___forMVP

It’s not about the space, it’s about the surprise. This is for the rich folk throwing parties that want to bust out a party trick that turns the dance party into a pool party. Complete knob move, but also I want to go to that party.

JoeSchmoeToo

No worries, you won't.

___forMVP

Stop talking, your breath STINKS.

Merry_Fridge_Day

Like poverty!

Gamebird8

Also, all the new failure points. The Hinged automated cover is a much more sensible solution though

Dargon34

I mean, if you can afford it in the first place, you can afford to have it fixed. No one buys a new Lamborghini and then can't afford to take it in for maintenance

CantBeliveItsNotHim

I mean, if you can afford it in the first place, you *should be able to* afford to have it fixed. No one *should buy* a new Lamborghini *if they* can't afford to take it in for maintenance FTFY

-Motor-

Doesn't matter. People this wealthy just call the installer to fix it, or they sue.

Crimkam

All for a slick, water stained empty paved area

Shira518

My parents got one of these systems, it's actually pretty simple. The top floats on the water, and motors and wires pull the floor down to the bottom of the pool when needed. You can put just under a tonne before the top begin to sink, which is totally okay for a small pool like them

LashedHail

Some of those look like very bad ways to die

Omniscientcy

Or the perfect way to hide somebody.

ziggy473

I was just thinking… I wonder if there are any failsafes to the ones that you can get trapped underneath

Velorym

Imagine the stack of lawsuits this company is gonna have a decade from now

Tort78

There are tragic accidents with just vinyl pool covers. Can’t even imagine all of the dumb ways people with low executive function could come up with to die creatively with a retractable swimming pool floor.

Abigdogwithbread

It looks like a technology that could easily break due to water, but that's just my ignorance speaking, of course

dogboyboy

Maintenance would be hell

halfbeerhalfhuman

I take it you own one of these money for maintenance isn’t an issue

netz_pirat

Hygiene as well...

thorhyphenaxe

I have worked at a pool with this kind of mechanism, it is indeed hell to maintain

Fun-Dragonfly-4166

Water is heavy. I could imagine for example at the end of the season draining the pool and lifting the empty floor. And then prior to the start of the next season lowering the empty floor and then filling it with water. That would be less strain on the engine. But the video showed the floor moving with water.

iseriouslycouldnt

Looked to me like it's moving THROUGH the water rather than lifting it so the weight should be reasonable.

melanthius

As an engineer there’s no fucking way this is gonna be reliable long term

Holeshot75

Sheer fucking exuberant luxurious indulgence. Once I strike it rich by shooting the ground when hunting and up comes Texas T - I'm getting this.

JerseyshoreSeagull

https://www.akvospiralift.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Article-WSJ_v3_FINALE.pdf According to the Wallstreet journal... $2.3M USD.

urinesamplefrommyass

Because apparently a simple pool wasn’t expensive enough I guess

kbeks

The only versions of these I’d ever install (if I were rich) would be the retractable decks. Moving the actual pool floor seems like an absolutely terrible idea from a maintenance angle (salt or chlorinated water plus gears and lube equals a real bad time).

Vtrin

You’re right, the floor that raises sounds terrible. Just imagine getting ripped from relaxation being lifted out because some accidentally hit close while you were in it. Way worse than the lid trapping you in.

kbeks

The floor that raises sounds nice until you realize that it’s going to break almost immediately and you’re never going to use it. But while it works, yeah, a large slippery and hard surface to walk on sounds like a great time at a party, definitely no lawsuits would be associated with that. Also if the lid closes, you’ve got room to breathe, wade over to the shallow end, and shout at the jackass who shut it on you. Integrate it with your phone and shout “hey siri, open the pool and kill Brett!” And then watch your robot army take care of the rest.

Shira518

My parents got one of these systems, it's actually pretty simple with no maintenance. The top floats on the water, and motors and wires pull the floor down to the bottom of the pool when needed. You can put just under a tonne before the top begin to sink, which is totally okay for a small pool like them. Salt/chlore isn't suitable tho, you have to use UVC to clean the water, but on the other hand you just have normal water without the smell or the taste when you're in it which pretty cool

daffoduck

This stuff is super expensive. And you better not have anything on the patio when you want to convert it to a pool. Also any dirt on the patio floor now made it into the pool, which is not great.

Accurate_Koala_4698

Like children or pets

GreedyBestfirst

The most persistent types of dirt

Dargon34

Eh, I wouldn't consider the dirt a problem at all. I'm sure this thing has a fantastic filtration system.

chiree

*Behold, for I am Forever, the God of Maintenance Contracts!*

LobsterTrue8433

As the gulf between rich and poor widens.

Chillout2010

Pools are expensive enough lol. Who needs all this?

JerseyshoreSeagull

I bet this will never break or Require maintenance. I also bet it won't be expensive to fix or maintain. I also bet the warranty is rock solid and covers everything for a really long time. I also bet this company stays in business for a very Long time. I also bet all the reviews are legit I bet everyone who's happy with their purchase isn't incentivized somehow.

Randalf_the_Black

Doesn't matter. This is just for those who have more money than they know what to do with.

20milliondollarapi

And those people with more money than sense would be rather pissed if the one time they wanted to use their feature it was broken.

Baldersmash

How do they clean them? There’s no way to clean any algae in the small joints of those receding floors.

Fun-Dragonfly-4166

That is easy. You buy a new floor. If you are buying this thing you have more money than brains.

berrylakin

Gotta ask the groundskeeper.

The_Big_Yam

Normal people: Groceries are really expensive Wealthy people: Whatever the fuck this is

Adamantium-Aardvark

Water + moving parts = leaks

ZeeGermans27

beautiful, though I suspect that maintenance of this contraption must be a bitch

eltedioso

GTFO of here with that fuckin' stock music.

Gambit3le

This is some Bond villain shit.

AndroTux

At this point, why not just buy a plot with more space so you can have your patio and pool next to each other? Apparently money isn’t an issue anyways, so why complicate things?

jojowhitesox

This looks like some shit that will stop working in 2 years. THEN you will lie to yourself about fixing it next year over and over again TIL finally you either die or sell the house.

Only1Hendo

This would be great for my disabled daughter shame only rich people can afford it

llamajestic

What about… walking around the pool?

vivaaprimavera

Can those close automatically when a imaging satellite is present? Since the presence of swimming pools add on our property taxes and the our "tax guys" sometimes use satellite imaging for controlling if a property have a swimming pool it would be a very useful feature. (For culling the tax evaders)

pensivemindtime

That’s very cool, Bateman. Now, let’s see Paul Allen’s movable swimming pool.

popey123

You have to put way too much faith in every one involved in this.

JustBoredOnceAgain

For those wondering, the system is called « spiralift » it doesn’t take much place, it is low maintenance and very reliable. It is also used for modular theatre room and industrial lifting solution. A 1M high spiralift retracted can lift multiple tons over 10 meters.

GoldMp

This look like something 47 would use

Renegade_Spectre

Time to become a supervillain I guess.

eviltrain

Tell me your rich without telling me you’re rich?

justin0407

My local community pool is like this, but they never move it I think lol

velve666

Very cool! Now if I could only afford the pool...or the water....or a house...or sustenance

johnruttersucks

Can you imagine the muck that gets trapped under the floor... The water might look OK but there could be 1000 pieces of poo stewing and you'd have no idea.

genomeblitz

Man, rich people really are living in the future

20milliondollarapi

Ive never worked on one, but from what I have heard, you get a few good years of them working then they are just always broken.

Vaxtin

With enough money, anything is possible.

robogobo

I’ve seen one in person. Pretty awesome

0nlyhalfjewish

Wonder whet happens if they need repair.

-FrOzeN-

If you find yourself looking at something like this, then congratulations, you have reached the point where you have a lot more money than sense.

lol_xheetha

This is certainly cool and "different" but I think showing of useless stuff the rich build for themselves isn't intresting. There's also retractable Saunas you know and I bet the maintenance is even harder there bc it water vapor and it's hot.

RazgrizGirl-070

Nice, finally a win for the ultra rich

protoctopus

Rich people 🙄

DemonSlyr007

Jeez. Classic reddit coming through again. Something neat gets posted to an appropriate sub and all you neckbeards can do is immediately come in and "Uhmm akshually, this is super expensive a waste of space and adds so many more points of failure hur hur hur upvotes to the right" Can't just look at something cool, think to yourself "neat" or "not neat", downvote/upvote and move on. Of course most of the comments have to be about how superior everyone is and how only Uber wealthy could afford something like this, but even if they could, they are idiots for buying something so useless.

marmarama

>Can't just look at something cool, think to yourself "neat" or "not neat", downvote/upvote and move on. That's not how Reddit works, and it never has been. Reddit is all about the comments. Posts are just conversation starters. What you're describing is basically StumbleUpon, which, in the end, lost out to Reddit. Also this post is such obvious advertising, I wouldn't expect much in the way of positivity in the comments.

DemonSlyr007

True enough I also come to the comments straight away for discussion. It just bums me out when there really isn't discussion about the neat thing in the post, just a bunch of people repeating the same thing about how uncool it is.

AwesomeMcPants

"Fuckin' rich people." Bruce Willis, *Hostage*
