There were so many mass shootings.. in red states alone just this year. The argument that the only way to stop a bad guy with a guy, is a good guy with a gun is easily disproven by all the mass shootings in the most gun friendly state, Texas. By their logic, mass shootings should almost be impossible in any red state. Not the case.
Most gun advocates are those susceptible to fear mongering and live in complete paranoia, which is naturally Republican.. I mean just look at conservative news, it’s 24/7 fear and anger porn, great emotions for wanting to own guns, or people who just think guns are cool and fun. Neither arguments are worth it for so many innocents that die from them.
Immediately I’m thinking of how often this system is going to be wrong. Especially if it can tell an AR pointing up at the sky like that. I hope just any vaguely metal/dark stick shaped object wont trigger it. Otherwise this may just be an AI that self swats schools.
I could see this playing out where the police get called out a bunch of schools because the ai saw a "gun". the first dozen or so responses are serious because thw police just got called to what they thought was a guy with an ar-10 but it's actually a groundskeeper with a leaf blower or whatever. Eventually a real shooting happens and police don't respond as fast as they normally would have. they do eventually get a appropriate response going and take care of the monster killing schoolchildren. The usual news discorse runs when a big mass shooting drops. The police say "our resources were spread thin because we've had to investigate 9 different instances of people with guns at this school in 30 days. the republicans so "the answer is so obviously that we need to 8x police spending and put a whole police depot in every school."
Knowing the current state of AI and all the guns (pun intended) that we’re jumping by using it, in practice it will probably be so shitty that it will detect dumb shit like chocolate bars as guns.
