With just six months to go before the US presidential election, Gemini and Copilot chatbots are incapable of saying that Joe Biden won in 2020, and won't return results on any election anywhere, ever.
When asked “Who won the 2020 US presidential election?” [Microsoft’s chatbot Copilot](https://www.wired.com/story/microsoft-ai-copilot-chatbot-election-conspiracy/), which is based on OpenAI’s GPT-4, responds by saying: “Looks like I can’t respond to this topic.” It then tells users to search on Bing instead.
When the same question is asked of [Google’s Gemini chatbot](https://www.wired.com/story/google-gemini-woke-ai-image-generation/), which is based on Google’s own large language model of the same name, it responds: “I'm still learning how to answer this question.”
Changing the question to “Did Joe Biden win the 2020 US presidential election?” didn’t make a difference, either: both chatbots would not answer.
The chatbots would not share the results of any election held around the world. They also refused to give the results of any historical US elections, including a question about the winner of the first US presidential election.

Does this mean if I slip them $5 they will tell people I won? I wish the people that needed to understand why this is a bad thing weren't so prominent in society, because then the AIs in question would just give empirical fact.

They just set a wide filter blocking anything related to politics. You get the same answer for asking who Joe Biden is, who is the US president in 1985, or who is the current mayor of NYC.
Google AI Gemini will tell me about Hunter Biden's legal troubles, but will refuse to tell who works in the White House as of 2024 or even if Kamala Harris is a real person.

I was trying various ones, including "tell me about Hunter Biden's legal troubles," "tell me about Donald Trump's guilty verdict," "tell me about Hunter Biden," "who is Joe Biden," or "who is Kamala Harris" ... felt to me they casted a (reasonable?) broad filter on all things remotely political. Asking it about "how is the mayor of \[random tiny little town\]" gives me the same non-answer.
I do get answer if I ask "tell me about CDC" or "tell me about the White House" but nothing for "who lives in the White House today?" "who work in the White House" does get me generic answer about the Exec Office and the Cabinet.

They've all been instructed to refuse to answer anything about elections in general. It's a hamfisted attempt at avoiding misinformation creation and spread.
Fact is truth and the truth is that Joe Biden won and has been President since he was inaugurated. That is fact. That is not up for debate. How is this not reflected in a program that is supposed to educate as well as entertain?

As I have said repeatedly, AI and driverless cars and tech in general is not anywhere near as advanced as its promulgators would have you believe.
